Fascinating. It was so interesting to see the process. I have never done anything even remotely like what you showed. When you explained that you needed to use a blanket I could definitely understand the need for a soft layer such as a blanket to squish the paper into the mold. But have a question about the blanket. Please don't laugh. Is the blanket you used a cut up blanket like you'd put on a bed? I'd really like to know.

I know this reply is so so late (I've been away from the channel) but no, it's a press blanket made specifically for printing presses. You can use dense felt though

You blot it so that it's slightly damp but not dripping wet

Yes you can! The result isn't quite as crisp but you can use a spoon to press the paper into the shapes

Do you need to put a medium on the paper to protect it when you are done? To keep the embossing in the paper.

No, it should stay on it's own. I'd recommend doing a test of your paper to make sure it keeps an embossing well

This process is best with a press but you could try using a baren with a sheet of greaseproof paper to see if you get any result

At etching press is best for embossing. Relief presses don't work very well for this
