    *Bought a 500 for an ultralight rod. It's very smooth **enjoyable.fishing** recommend casts great. One odd thing- the bale wire is a bit heavy diameter in my opinion for a reel of this size. But a great purchase.*

    Thanks for making this vid JP. Very first cast after putting on 30lbs Super Slick braid and got a huge ass backlash. Now granted my cast was only about 50% of how I usually throw but I was frustrated to say the least. I didn't touch (well hardly) the tension knob before hand. So now I'm watching every vid I can to learn how to properly tune this thing and try casting again but I will admit I'm a bit nervous now.

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  5 років тому +2

      It depends on your casting ability and thumbing the spool. It will be hard to beat setting 2 for castability and distance... you can't haul off on setting 1 like that and tightening the spool tension will help but affect the distance greatly

    So out of the box mine was set up to have zero play, I set the dial to 3 to be on the safe side. First cast using a mono/Fluoro hybrid got a huge backlash. I didn’t think I would have to thumb the spool before the bait hit the water. I wonder if the tension knob needs to be even tighter for a thumbless cast?

  • @facejoker1349

    Thanks for the tip JP. Somehow i still have problems with my Curado DC. Iam a fishing newbie and also still using spinning reel to learn. For fishing trout iam using a 1,5 or 2,6 gram hardlure. Westin W3 finesse T rod, 5-20gram with 0.20mm braid line. After first try i realise that the lure is to light (cant casting at all) and adding 9 gram more weightcasting. When less smooth casting i got a little bird nest and always birdnest by not thumbing when the lure hits the water. Not gain any distance by selecting break number 2. I tried your instruction in this video. Selecting break number 4 for thumbless casting, break number 3 for braid/longer distance and adjusting the tension knob until no side to side movement. Also tried the traditional methode by adjusting the tension knob for each lure. I can heard the DC running when casting. What did i do wrong?. Something wrong with my setup?. Is the line to tick?. I hope u can help me.

    • @markrigg6623
      @markrigg6623 4 роки тому

      @Fishing Fanatic Freddy Casting 9 grams isnt bait finesse. Its in the normal range for all of shimanos 200 size reels. Here in Australia we typically bass fish with baitcasters and lures 8 or 9 grams and ive had to stop selling them because of the number of returns. Its got way way too much braking on the minimum setting. I've got chronarchs, calais, calcuttas and a calcutta dc from 2006. They all handle 8 grams no worries. But not this pile of crap. I dont know what shimano were thinking.......... apparantly only double handed plug rods and heavy lures....... Yes 2.5 gram lures are out of the range of all of these reels and that is BFS. But 8 or 9 grams?......no.

    • @markrigg6623

      1 is the least amount of computer assist, 2 we recommend for Braid, 3 for fluoro or mono and 4 has the most amount of braking so skipping and casting into the wind or for new baitcast users. Not sure about the W as we don't have that in our iDC4 units.

      The smoothness of the cast has a lot to do with it as well. If you’re trying to throw a light bait with a stiff rod, that often doesn’t allow the bait speed to load properly. So many variables but I have never had issues casting 1/4 ounce.

      There are a lot of good braids on the market, I have been using PowerPro my entire life basically and it has yet to let me down but J Braid is also a quality product. The bigger concern should be what pound test you run. The thinner the line the more it will bite into the spool on a bait caster. I usually recommend 30, 40, 50, 65 or 80 lb test for best line management.

    I have a slx dc 150hg when I set mine as he said to just where there is no side to side play I get over run ...when I set it to where whatever bait I have on it doesn't fall i don't get any backlash or over run but distance might take a slight hit ..so which way is correct to set it I seen videos of ppl saying both ways

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  3 роки тому +1

      If you are getting back lash up the setting on the side. 4 is the most control 1 is the least. By setting it with no side to side movement, that is how to ensure maximum distance with least amount of resistance

      @@JPDeRoseOutdoors Do you think if people don't loosen the knob right away that it can damage the reel?
      The way they word it seems like it maybe..
      IF the cast control knob is tightened more than necessary, the dc system can not demonstrate its ORIGINAL performance.

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  3 роки тому

      @@HouseholdGuppies no, you won't damage it at all. Tighten the spool tension knob will only hurt casting distance. The point of the tightening to where there is no side to side play is to ensure the magnets are secure inside the coils for optimal charging of the DC microcomputer.

    How do you spool it with only one hole in the spool?

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  2 роки тому

      You don't put your line through the spool, you use an arbor knot anytime you want to tie your line to your spool. If you are using straight braid, use the arbor knot them out a small piece of tape on top of the knot and start spooling the reel. That will stop the slipping
