How I Set Up A New Reel | Shimano Curado DC 150HG | Dobyns Fury 734C

- I got another Curado DC. And a new Dobyns Fury 734C Rod to go with it. See how I set up a brand new baitcasting reel out of the box with 50lb POWER PRO BRAID (shoutouts to Realistic Fishing) to a 15lb fluorocarbon leader using an Alberto Knot. For bait I tie on a new finesse jig that we paired up with a Yamamoto trailer. Is this Dobyns Fury rod better than the LunkersTV Defender Series Rods that I have been using since the end of summer? Where was reel priced at $179.99?
Dobyns has very nice rods, I have 2 casting and 1 spinning sierra micro rods from them and absolutely love them. my other 3 setups are 13 fate blacks... not bad, but they are no dobyns. Nice set up!

My apologies. I just use a good hard double overhand knot. People prefer different knots, so someone else may tell you different.

i bought one of these reels a couple months ago. it's really nice, but not what i use for finesse fishing. for that i use a daiwa jdm sv ltd lite. i paired the dc with a curado rod. i wanted to see how shimano intended it to behave, as a combo. i bought the slower one because i bank fish creeks and shallow farm ponds. the entire area from the point i cast to, back to the rod tip, is the strike zone for me. i work the bait back the entire way.
I have this same combo! Can't beat it in this price range.

I run mainly 30lb mono but im more of a cat guy set the pole and poke the fire and chill with family but my bass poll is full braid but its time to restring and i think imma try this out this year

Nice video, sold me on the Curade DC though it's a lot more money here in UK. I run 65lb Braid to an 18 inch Titanium leader most times. Though I'm on a fishing trip to Serbia at the moment and were running leaders made of 0.90mm Florocarbon to our lures. Subscribed, looked forward to checking out your other videos.

I am amazed that people don't understand you never need to adjust the brake on a Curado DC reel. In fact, it will mess your reel up by changing the factory setting. If you do a You tube search for tackle warehouse and Curado DC overview, the Shimano rep will make this very clear. You also still need to lightly thumb the DC reel when casting.
Old video but I know you have the knowledge to answer this question but, do you notice a casting distance difference from the 8.5 and the 7.4 ??

Is the Curado casting rod a better fit for Curado DC reel? Or what Shimano rod would suit reel. Also what length do you recommend 7' - 8'6"? Does it depend on type of fish? Mainly use would be for Salmon, Striper, Trout, Bass, & Cat Fish. And what Monofilament brand is great for same reel? I was told Maximass UltraGreen, Pline, Spider Wire, & Trilene Big Game
Dan Can I personally don’t own any Shimano Rods but a great all around rod is the Dobyn’s Fury 734C. It is a 7’3” 4 power rod. Great all around rod. I use Sunline Assasin Flurocarbon and Ppwer Pro 50lb Braid.
I assume you leave the brake at factory setting as these reels are not made to change brake settings. Only time you adjust brake is if the spool is shifting left or right and has gotten off the factory setting. Having said that, what settings beween 1 and 4 on the left side of the reel do you use for both pitching and flipping?

Found my way here after unboxing my first curado DC. Question, when you spool your line into the reel, are you using a spooling station or what’s your method. My first baitcaster I bought I had a helluva time getting it on there nice and tight without a spooling station. Thanks!

I've just realized that you look and sound like Jesse James on Monster Garage. Are you related? Lol.. Also some types of electric tape is about as slick as the spool. I used medical tape , but I 'm thinking about putting mono on mine.
Mono backing > any tape
i used to use straight mono on all my rods, but switched to flouro because it doesn't stretch as much as mono.
I got the cash today for one of the reels but wanna try to get that price matched at $179.99. Where did you find that price listed so I can show the guys up at Dicks?

Hey brother, you mentioned in the video that you used braid 95% of the time? I would like to know that are you exceptions, and what baits you throw on Braid and what kind brand and size you use for each setup. I know it’s a lot to ask for but Im just curious. Thanks man! Just bought my first curado dc, im having a hard time to setting it just right, I’m getting a lot backlash believe or not. Any advice?
Basic adjust the spool so the jig slowly falls. I prefer ML rod so that DC system really starts working early. Line adjustment 2 or 3. Easily outcasts every reel that I own with 1/4 Ned head. 20lb Braid, 3ft Fluoro leeder.
I started with long stiff rod and thin line with no thumb reflexes, had a problems for a while. Went to store and bought Daiwa. Also lovely reel. Easy to cast short range and thats about it. About after 8h training Shimano ruled again.
Not the easiest Reel for beginner but the reward is +40ft pure smoothness. Love it.

I stopped using yamamotos after 1 purchase because im too poor. So i found a Chinese brand that sells 24 for 10-11 bucks same softness and just as much salt if not more

sufix 832 is smoother than power pro but it fades fast and i mean fast. i'd probably go power pro maxcuatro but it's most expensive, sufix is still smoother. i don't back - try the link below as it works without electrical tape if you do it right. likewise, i use leaders like you...6-9' typically, but with 12lb sufix low memory mono as i typically fish in shallow water so i want the rage shads or light swim jigs to stay up a little. i'm about to try that new sufix gel phase fluoro for my leaders. what brought me here though is i just bought a 734C and judging by your video here...it looks pretty damn nice.

Why not show someone who ties a blood knot like me how to tie another braid to Fluor or mono knot instead of having big brother tie your knot instead of editing him out?
