I’ve been working for my company
-going on 7 years.
-worked 10-15 hours.
-due to Covid they weren’t giving raise
-after Covid I got a raise
-however I found out the new girl with no experience was hired 7k more then me.
-I’m now quiet quitting.
-I just finished 3rd interview with a bigger company.
-I should find out something this week.

I didn't quiet quit. I just QUIT. I gave my all, but when it wasn't appreciated and I got a bad review, I went to lunch & didn't go back. I felt that I lost 1000 pounds of stress that day. That was in 2011 and I have never regretted it. Don't stay where you are not appreciated! I couldn't continue to spend my life like that! 💙
I've been self-employed my entire working life. The longest I held a job was 3 days. I have never regretted my path, just the speed at which I was able to travel it.

When I decided to start my own business, I stopped complaining at work. Basically, I knew I was leaving so I gave up giving a 💩 about what went on at work! A few weeks into this, my bosses called me in for a surprise meeting. I thought 💩 they’re on to me and my plans. I was sweating bullets. In the meeting they congratulated me for my attitude improvement, and they told me to keep up the good work and I would be very happy at my next performance review. When I stopped caring about what I was doing, and stopped giving suggestions for work flow improvements, I was recognized for being a model employee! 😂
Lol, the same thing that happened when I made the mental switch to build my business I gradually stop caring about job and stop giving them the power over my aspirations. Until the transition happens I do enjoy any drama that happens at the workplace especially in my department 🙄

I used to be a top producing “superstar” employee until I learned how office politics really work. I saw a new employee get promoted to higher position over half the office who were much more experienced and productive, just because the new person became casino and shopping buddies on the weekend with the supervisor. My two cents: use your company as much as they will use you. My former company paid for a partial tuition discount with a university and not only did I take advantage of that, I also used company time to work on homework and study for exams. If you can get get a side hustle and grow it, by all means go for it because you cannot rely on an employer especially when the economy tanks.
The fact that they don't give pensions anymore is a dead giveaway. Pensions were reward for your loyalty.

It is when you work hard, going above and beyond, and then find out that your supervisor is actually "quiet quitting". 😂 They have no incentive to even pay attention to the fact that you went above and beyond, and they slack off and just give everyone on the team the same performance score.

Every Radiology department I have even worked in is exactly like this. So I learned real quick no point in working harder than everyone else.
Some managers give everyone the same score because they don't want to make anyone upset.

I have a friend at Microsoft that volunteered to cover for a Manager that was leaving the company so he would still do his job and the bosses. They gave him both salaries because he was doing both jobs. Now that is a great response by the company. Made me think about the company I have been with for many years. I volunteered to relocate and they cut my hourly wage by $9.

Same happen to me on my first job, our office location was gonna close so they offer us to relocate to another city which I did not mind. But when I found out I was just getting a different position and the other employees where getting a raise I told them I wasn’t interested anymore.

Huge thank you from GenXer! My generation folded to the demands of the Baby Boomers and many of us are disabled on our mid 40's from being overworked, underpaid. My husband had 20 years of work, zero vacation time as his pay was so low that we couldn't afford vacation at all.
Take care of yourselves out there. You are your biggest asset. Believe me those who push you to do more than your direct work duties won't be there for you when you won't be able to pick yourself up from the bed in the morning. They won't even call to check on you.

The hardest part of quiet quitting for me was going against my work ethic. I was taught to give it my all, above and beyond, and I would be compensated. That wasn’t the case. So, instead of doing the bare minimum, I worked as usual but kept no allegiance to my employer. As soon as I found better, I left. In essence, I quit the company while I worked there. My suggestion to those who quiet quit: don’t do the bare minimum. Do your best, then leave and make them regret the loss.
i relate to how you feel. i am raised to work hard and its so hard for me to know that the harder i work, they just keep putting more work. i don't mind the work but its like no recognition and being treated dispensable sucks

@@tenzinlek1262 same, although, i can tell you after starting my own side hustle and business, i am 1000% more productive, more fulfilled and happier even though I work harder than I ever did. When i had a corporate boss who couldn't even tell i was working at all when i was busting for work, working for myself is 1000x more rewarding. It's much more unstable bit if you have a backup plan, it's well worth the risk to try and succeed. It shudders me to think of all the credit these incompetent corporate managers would take from me and throw me under the bus if things got bad.

I remember my first job here in the US working at Target. I was commended for having the highest score on my performance chart. I always went way beyond my tasks on the job. They rewarded me by giving me an 11 cent raise. I was so furious that I just quit after that lol! Only in America!
Hahaha my job declined my 50 cent raise after I stopped busting my ass doing multiple positions. Little do they know I'm about to dip and join the military.
I used to work at Target, busted my hump going above and beyond, one year I'd only gotten a seven- cent raise, the last year thirty- seven cents. That last Christmas season instead of us getting more hours they'd hired thirty-six new people for the hiring bonuses. We kept getting in each other's way, I soon gave up on the company.

that is a joke for sure, my last job gave me a 27 cent raise a couple of months before I quit, they started making it harder to earn bonuses as well. I would have been furious at 11 cents too.

Love this channel! I quiet quit my job 8 years ago. I didn’t realize that’s what it was at the time. I was depressed, gained weight, dreaded going to work. Finally came to a head and I quit. I finally started living my life again. I’m happy now, own my own successful business, and have time to see my children grow up and focus on my marriage and my wife. (I think I was headed for divorce back than). Started CrossFit and I look and feel great! I am so thankful for my life now. My biggest fear is having to ever go back to corporate life. I’m 38 now, and my 30s have been amazing! Wish I could say the same about my 20s, but at least I figured it out when I did.

You nailed it. Quiet quitting is not new. We have all been through it. Its a hard thing to reconcile when you consider yourself a hard worker.

@@TrixAreForRabbits This "queit quiting" is nothing new. It is just a new term for choosing to half ass your job, still perform tasks, be okay with mediocrity, and still have a paycheck coming in. It's the level above "Sitting around, doing nothing, not giving a damn about anything, and collecting a paycheck until you are fired for laziness" This is literally 50% or more of the work force these days.

It's amazing how doctors don't take the fall for neglecting a patient's well being. Nurses in my local hospital have gone on strike and it doesn't seem to make much difference.
I remember when I quiet quitted. My boss was the worst human being I've ever met. Absolutely insane. The whole department was depressed and had low morale. Nonetheless, I always try to be a good performer but at the same time, I can see through the bs. I didn't want to waste my talent to continue to let this boss of mine to look good. So I quit and now work for myself and make twice the money.

Most people probably have to work at something they aren’t interested in. There’s a reason it’s called “work” and you get paid for it, and it isn’t because it’s interesting and fun. Work exists because there’s a demand for a good or service, not as something meant to satisfy the person working. Work to live, don’t work too many hours, and have interests outside of work that you enjoy.

since i did quiet quiting my job, i actually enjoy my life way more, i have hobbies, go to the gym, read books at home and even at work. I have a good sleep balance : 8h of sleep every day. i have a lot of free time ... im healtthier, happier, and more balanced overall
I've gone above and beyond at my job and the performance reviews were exactly as yours played out... they point out the many many good things you've done over the past year, then they hit you with the But!! 2% raise is not even COLA. Needless to say you do lose motivation, stop doing extras and the company doesn't seem to care! Starts at the top...
@ M Noe G I'm a retired LPN for several decades I got a lot of verbal and written praise but ended up getting LOWER pay raises than some of the slackers. I was gaslighted big time- especially from the company I worked the for the longest. I had WAY MORE reponsiblities and work load than the nurses I worked with and all I got was PRAISE!

My mother told me years ago if you give to much of yourself to your 9-5 job they will take advantage of you damm was she right ! Do it only if it’s for your own business because that’s where the real gratitude is and it’s all yours.👍🏻
Call centers are the worst. I went above and beyond because I wanted my customers to know that I truly cared about their concerns and would fix the problem. I did that for years and finally stopped because I would get written up for “taking too long” even though I had 100% quality scores month after month after month. They literally told me to put in 80% of the effort and get off the phone as quickly as possible 😳 I never got a raise or a bonus because our company was “investing in itself” and all they’d do was adjust for cost of living wages. I finally left this year and I CANNOT BELIEVE I put up with that for so long. My new job is amazing and I’m so glad I made the move.
Keep looking and never give up - even if you get rejection after rejection. Your new job is out there and it’s SO much better than what you’re doing now ❤️
So glad for you to get that job you love but I have to say, I cringe when I have to call a call center. After a usual 30 min hold and then so frustrated and angry when the call is over. I SO APPRECIATE the rare 10% times when I get to chat and interact with an agent like yourself. I wish (or maybe I did) I could have talked to you. People like you make the day so much better. I hate working in a call center. I cry every Sunday evening or on my way to work Monday morning. It is soul draining. And yet I still try my best to help customers when they call even though I hate hearing the ring in my ears and don't want to talk to them, I still go above and beyond. Then I have to hear my AHT is too long etc etc
Yup. Been there done that. I will never work Help Desk tech support call center jobs ever again. I worked split shift schedules and routing shifts with insane high call volume and unrealistic metrics you have to meet.
I also quiet quitting about 7 years ago and I sum it up as, Bosses don't reward those that go way and beyond, they reward those that can talk up a storm and are buddy buddy to them and do the minimum. So if you are a quiet person but hustle a lot at work, you are not getting promoted. Bosses want someone who is a talker, deceiver, buddy, butt kisser but do just the minimum. My honest advise is when you get a new job, just do the minimum, however focus on getting to know your boss and become a buddy buddy system. If the buddy system don't work, move on to another job and try the same thing. Once the buddy system works, you on your way to great promo within the company. It's a Douce bag way of getting promoted but that's how the culture is at work.

Quiet Quitting like many other problems are just symptoms of inefficiency in the economy. There's jobs out there that reward people heavily for doing bare minimum and then there's ones that you get burnout from just to get enough to survive. Don't be afraid to say no and quit if you're in a miserable situation.
Didn't give quit notice - I love that. That was a mistake I made repeatedly; a mistake because there's no gain or compensation for a 2 week notice. I actually once got fired after giving a notice. Corporations ain't worth my worth 😕
Depends on your contract. Some positions do require two week notice so if yours don’t, get out RIGIT NOW !
Dumb move on your employers part. Getting fired without cause entitles you to unemployment and opens them up to fair labor law investigations, at least in this case since it sounds retaliatory
Remember if you in a state that is your employed at will and same goes for the employee who also has a choice to leave
2 week notice really depends on the company and the policy. For instance PTO payout. If you have a couple weeks of PTO and can only get it if you give 2 weeks notice as long as the company you are moving too is good with that its prolly worth it to get your PTO payout (state by state laws vary on that many just require an employer to follow their policy and most have a clause to only payout PTO if you give 2 weeks notice). The other is are you in an industry specific role and want to stay in that industry due to acquired knowledge? Not giving 2 weeks can get you a bad rep. I always treated each company I worked for separately rather than having a general policy on giving notice. Some I wanted to give notice to keep contacts etc in an industry and some I just wanted out.
SAME HERE. I gave a 2 week notice and they FIRED me after 2 days. I’m so glad i had a job lined up already or my record would have been tarnished and i wouldn’t have been able to find a job.
I worked in a shitty corporate environment for many years and I'll never do it again. They push people to do all these things for little raises just like Brian said. I hope more people are waking up to this and not putting up with it. If anybody is caught in that situation, make sure it's only for a short time while you get your stuff together.
I plan to retire at the end of 2022 at 57 after 36 years in Telecom as a sales engineer. My wife will retire in October 2022 and she' s loving life! But walking away from a good income stream and building the nest egg to living from the nest egg is a scary proposition, scary to stop saving and start spending.

I "quiet quit" most of my life. Early in my career, I was driven and took on extra projects. In return, my boss demeaned me in meetings. It killed my work ethic. I later learned that she felt threatened because I had a college degree, and she didn't. She was worried I'd be after her job in a year, so she denied me several promotions in favor of less qualified applicants. More importantly, I learned managers promote who they like, not necessarily who works the hardest or who proves themselves to the company.
Very interesting Brian. I stayed too long at 2 of my jobs that had toxic environments. At the age of 67, I look back and wondered if it was a lack of confidence that kept me from quitting sooner. The last company I felt I had little options because age was a factor. It’s much harder to find any decent employment after age 55 even with a good education. my generation stayed and suffered through for the sake of a paycheck especially if we had a family to support. Quitting equaled failure. I believe this stemmed from our parents’ generation keeping the same job for nearly their entire work years. Also it was drilled down to us that we shouldn’t expect to necessarily be happy, but that the paycheck allowed us to put food on the table. For me, The risk of unemployment was more stressful. Taking a handout from the government was not an option because of pride. On the positive side, my husband and I helped our three daughters through college, have our home paid off and so far living a comfortable retired life.
I have been doing this since I was like 19. I was told that all you had to do was work hard. I worked hard for 5 years, so I was like yay I'm going to get promoted. Promotion time rolled around and they gave it away to someone that was new to the company. That's when I started to question everything. That's when I realized everything I was told growing up was a lie and from then on out I have hated corporations. Alot of people never see it because the companies get you when you're young and naive. I really wanted to believe all of it. Every job I have been quiet quitting. I went through so many jobs because I became really good at reading between the lines when corporations were speaking to me. I became too good at seeing non sense which kind of sucks. Nowadays at 30 I prioritize myself over any job. I am just as ruthless to these corporations as they're to most Americans. I don't get what I want, I just plan my exit. I go silent and one day you notice I'm not there anymore. There is never any reason to go above and beyond for free because 9 times out of 10, you're being used and alot of people don't see it. There is nothing wrong with simply doing your job at a minimum. What corporations want is free labor.

There is no such thing as quiet quitting, as you explained it. I’m in my mid 40s and I have never logged into work outside of work hours. I also never give less than 100% while I’m at work but I also never get emotional about the job. It is a means to an end. I have always been acutely aware any company will replace you within a week of firing you or you quitting. My family has always been “the main thang” and always will be. Sad for those who chose to be chained to a company phone and e-mail. I turn mine off as soon as 7:00 Thursday night hits, not to be powered on again until Monday morning.

I’ve done this before. Went the extra mile and eventually got burned out. The faster and harder I worked, the more work and responsibilities I received BUT at the same pay. It can tire you quick, especially if there is no reward.

This man's experience echoes my own. I work a corporate job currently. My place of work before this felt like a dream. My first three years were amazing. Then management changed around and it felt like a curse. I quietly quit and used all my time to getting a better job. I found one in 2021 and got a 25% raise and advanced my career.
Keep doing that and you will earn way more than Joe Bloggs in his dead end job for the last 10 years.
I did this once. Was a top performer for a tech company for a year and a half, didn't get a single raise and was being paid up to 15% less than new hires on my team that were doing 1/3 of the work. When I started doing less work they put me on a PIP, so I left that company.
This resonates with me so well. After my maternity leave, I busted my butt off for this company in order to get a raise so I can support my growing family. No one handled my accounts for the entire 5 months I was off… I worked without taking lunch and managed to clean up everything and more. The time came for my review. I got praised but no raise. They used the pandemic as an excuse. I was distraught. I’m currently “quiet quitting” and starting to work on my company so I can work for myself.

Even if it's not a full raise--or provide a bonus even. The company should provide some sort of incentive to go agaisnt those worker-types that don't practically do a damned thing day after day, but collect a paycheck regardless.
I would argue that using the Pandemic as an EXCUSE NOT TO reward your good workers is a big part of the reason why those good workers don't go above and beyond anymore.

Point still stands, in dire times above and beyond will let you keep your job while the expectation will unfortunately get you laid off. Companies did this and still went under. I personally know a friend who lost his diner during the pandemic and had to let his staff go, which was like family to him. Oddly enough those workers did their everything and completely understood that raises weren’t even a question in the time.

I worked very hard for Hertz for 26 years. Then they want me to take a pay cut then move to another state. They laid me off and wouldn’t consider allowing me to take a lesser position. Starting my own business was the best thing I did.
Corporations are no longer loyal to their hard working, dedicated employees. I worked every weekend on a meager salary for three consecutive years. The worked never stopped. The silent message was finish or be replaced.
My friend was with them for almost 15 years. Star employee. They screwed her over at the beginning of the pandemic as well. I worked for National and they did the same. I quiet quit for a while than i just stopped coming to work and just moved and left.

But I am stuck because I'm good at nothing. I try to learn other skills and I'm struggling so much. Everything is so expensive. Rent costs more than my paycheck. I love your story and can relate to your experience. Where I work, everyone gets the same raise, whether you produce at 100% or 50%. I'm burnt out and decided to look for part-time work so I can take care of my health. Meanwhile, I'm producing at the minimum level like most of my colleagues.

I needed to hear this about 3 months ago. My previous position burned me out so bad, it made me miserable. I was causing arguments at home, I was depressed, I was tired all the time, had no motivation to do anything at home or at work. As soon as the job was out of my life, it was like I was a brand new person. So happy, so refreshed, etc. I had no idea how bad I got until I felt the freedom of being able to breathe again. Thank you for this video, more people need to see this and recognize that jobs can be toxic too.
I know this exact feeling. Got a 1% pay raise after absolutely nothing for two years, despite outstanding evaluations. Had to make up for the loss of money with overtime, and finally started just doing bare minimum once I had secured a new job. Once I stopped doing overtime entirely they noticed this and cut me loose, but I collected unemployment in the few months it took for my position to be vacated where I made $15 more an hour for less stressful work. I'd still be working there now if they'd paid me even 5%, which still would have been below COLA for all three years. They had to spend more money training someone with a starting salary probably more than I was at just because they were cheap.
This mentality starts when you start the job. It’s an unwritten rule amongst employees in my office. Now I don’t take two hours breaks but when projects are due, they get it on the day that’s it due and not a minute more. I don’t concern myself with getting excellent performance ratings as long as I pass cause the bonus is the same amount for everyone. When I leave in the evenings I don’t think about that job until the next morning. I refuse to let them stress me out and kill me.
Idk some people love their job until they start to seeing inequality. I worked my butt off at my last job. My supervisor quit and they had me doing her job for months with no increased pay and trying to not acknowledge that I was doing the work. After awhile I got tired of it and quit. A week later they offer the position to another coworker who everyone knew as one of the favorites with a extra 20k. They feather have me do it for free but ask her and offer more money. Some company’s just aren’t worth putting in the extra effort if they not gonna show their appreciation. And the company had a long standing of being sexiest and having favorites. I didn’t learn that until after starting though. Didn’t waste more than a year there

There’s nothing quiet about my quitting. I tell the higher ups all the time that I don’t care about their customers and especially don’t care about their share holders. I’ve been a auto collision tech for 19 yrs and it’s gone so far downhill, they can’t even find new techs to fill my position because no new people want to do the job lol. I quiet quit earlier this year. We usually get a flat 2% raise each year. This year I didn’t get my raise. With inflation being as high as it is I felt it was a slap in the face. The raise is not performance based and they couldn’t tell me why I didn’t get it. So I was done. I’m not working hard anymore. I’m currently learning a new skill so I hope I can leave my job soon.
No joke this is so relatable. I was given a 2% raise as well. I always give it 110% at work and babysit the slack of other departments. I stress over tasks that are not my problem but will eventually affect my department. Thank you for this video! I'll start with not worrying about other departments and just focus on mine. I've done the same type of quitting at my last job as well😂 I never came back. I even got a call a month later and was told if I'm coming in today. That's how unvalued I was..they didn't even realize after a month.
OMG - I did the quiet quitting at my previous job. I felt so overworked and undervalued and just like you I had that very low increase... I did it until I took a lower-paying job that gave me a better work-life balance and they are very appreciative of the work I do.

I've had the disappointment of working hard and contributing good ideas that were used, but never rewarded with a raise, a promotion, or sometimes, even a "Thank you". Brian going so far as to say how and how not to leave your job, including expectations and immediate planning, is a very generous thing for him to do. All of his videos on finances are important. But this one, on our jobs, OUR LIVES, is THE most important one of all. Thank you.

I'm old school and will be at work till the job is done. I go above and beyond the job of duty and recently I just got let go. The workers saw how i changed the work floor. They were shocked but my manager wasn't. I was usually there for 10-13hrs a day and then I have a 2 hour commute. But he never noticed my work.

Outside of work, I watch over my parents who are retired, with my mom having Parkinson's and my oldest brother who is diabetic and 95% blind because of glaucoma. My life is simple. Family first , then work.
So basically i had been put on a performance review because of my attendance. He rarely came to the lab and communication was always behind a screen. I worked swing shift and there were only two of us. Work always got done before the morning shift plus more. I got along with everyone there which made it feel it was more personal then just business between my ex-boss and I.
He also never replied back after writing to him on my last day stating sorry things didn't work out.
All I can do now is push forward, take what I learned and use it towards my advantage.
I guess they found the sucker. Now, you realize the company doesn't care about you.

Take all of that action and put it into “your own space” if possible.
I am also an extremely hard worker. The company will always tell you that you're trash to keep your self-esteem low, so that you won't have the confidence to look elsewhere. I lost my job with COVID, re-created myself and started my own business. The first year was tough, but now things are going well. I could not be happier.

Doing the bare minimum in the corporate world is the best path because the company will take full advantage of you if you don't. Instead of rewarding you for your hard work, they will raise the bar and expect that type of performance as your standard. Then when you pull back and work the amount that the company deserves, they will feel you are under achieving even though you are working the right amount they are paying you for.
Excellent video Brian! As a person who can't hold a job because I stand up to my employers, I approve this message! I've been diagnosed with autism, so when I work my hyperfocus kicks in and I literally have the productivity of at least three other coworkers. This makes me prone to be taken advantage of. My last employer was housekeeping at a Federal hospital. I was doing the workload of three people for about six months straight, practically cleaning the entire hospital myself when my supervisor moved a waiting room couch after I had cleaned and seen one single gum wrapper. She took pictures of it with her phone, told me I had to do BETTER and told me she was sending the pictures to my main supervisor. Naturally, I tucked my tail and said okay and when she had finally left, I wondered why I was doing this to myself. I walked to my car, cried and thought it over one more time before I drove myself home. I had received a call two days later wondering why I wasn't there. I was gone for two days until they even noticed.

I quiet quit my job of 16 years last week. At lunch, I cleaned out my locker and left after the new manager handed me my 3.5% annual raise. I already planned to quit as I have been building my own business on the side but I left a month early as I didnt want to waste another moment dealing with jackass management who know nothing about business and people.
I used to be a pharmacy tech at a very large chain. I was told by my old pharmacy manager (after he had quit) that when he did our performance reviews he had to submit them to the district manager before he did our one on ones to go over them. He said he originally gave me a much higher performance review but the district manager made him go back and lower all of my scores.(and everyone else on the team, not just me) Each category was on a 1-5 scale. He was only allowed to give us a maximum of 3 on every category and at max one 4 and that 5 was basically impossible. So it was all 3's and one 4 if you were a good employee on the annual reviews.. I never cared about the reviews after he told me that. There was no incentive to go above and beyond if you can't even be acknowledged for it and get a larger raise. (even with the tiny .25 cent raises)

I worked for a large property management company that decided to require all property managers must have real estate licenses - without the real estate pay. So I thought, if I have to go to that trouble and expense, I'm going to actually work as Realator and make double the pay. I quit and passed my real estate tests but ended up investing. I make much more than working for someone else. My poor sister is getting so squeezed and stressed right now by a situation she is being treated like a slave.

I had a job that sold HVAC supplies. I scheduled a vacation and rented a house on the water because my family loves the ocean. I was then told by the company that I couldn’t take time off in the summer because that’s when we are the busiest. I told my manager my kids don’t like to swin in the water in Maine in the winter…They let me take it off and they never saw me again.
it’s hard for the older generation to understand because they didn’t have cell phones or e-mail. Which makes it hard to disengage from work. They leave you messages and harass employees about work, they treat them like salary employees but pay them hourly. Now when you do more and go above and beyond for a pizza party, you actually don’t give them a reason to hire more employees, they just take in profits. The more you do now the more you screw your self. They are making huge profits at our expense. Also try asking anyone older or close to retirement to stay late or work a weekend they lose their mind.
P.S I am a millennial I work like a dog, I always have but I work in healthcare and they DONT want to hire, so imagine people that you depend on to save your life and your love ones is getting burnt out/hurt or quiet quitting while the healthcare companies are making Billions. It’s cheaper for them to pay for the death of your mom than it it’s to hire and keep staff. Let that sink in.

I have quiet quit on my job two years ago, and still received a raise, the raise was so small, I maintained my quiet quitting mentality, but it's so subtle, nobody even notices.
This is what im going through, mostly burntout and finally took pto to reconnect with my family :) im not working more than 8 hours a day anymore, the stress is not worth it! I rather take a lower paying job to take care of my mental health.

I worked 15 years for an organization of which the last 5 were pure hell. I made a plan to get out and it took a really long time but one day I decided to quit on X date and took a leap of faith. Honestly in my entire work history doing that never crossed my mind. I don't know if I could have done that because I understood that no matter how hard I worked or how much I benefited my employers, I knew I was totally replaceable at any time. The pandemic changed alot of things because it went from at times fighting to find steady work, which is an employer's market to an employee's market because now there are a lot of vacant jobs out there. The age discrimination that was a wall before got knocked down alot. I know it's illegal to discriminate based on age or sex, but it was ever present before the pandemic, now not as much.
I think now people are thinking more about their life and mental health than before.
This ALL happened to me at Sephora during the pandemic. Lots of ppl left and Sephora really wanted to make that money back in blood, once outside opened back up. I was getting more freelance clients while management was trying to “leverage” my expertise. “Of course, every time I asked about what that means for compensation, no one had an answer for me….so it began.

Worked my ass off for 4 years, tried so hard to get raises, got promoted 3 times, and finally come year end and I got a 43 cent raise I quietly quit while looking for another job. Now I work full time in a local cpa firm where at least I’m learning a whole lot more and hopefully I can have better options for income. I quiet quit my previous micromanaging job until I found a better job that pays way better, with better benefits, and much more freedom. One thing you should know though, management will notice. By then, I was already mentally gone. I did my job accordingly, but I didn’t jump through hoops. Best decision ever!
I was brainwashed to think that it was always a must to give 2 weeks notice before quitting. I was taught that just quitting before giving 2 weeks notice was just unprofessional. I used to judge a former co-worker who quit with one week notice instead of two weeks notice. I thought she was inconsiderate by not allowing the employer adequate notice to find a replacement. Plus the employer was one of the nicest man to his employees. Now I guess it depends upon the situation.

I’ve felt the burnout for years. Employers not treating employees right, underpaying for the work done, pushing employees to do more when they are no longer physically able to to being overworked if I all had to literally “quit” my job because my health was declining rapidly. Work to live not live to work. The quality of life is drastically changed when people are physically and emotionally overworked.
Working to live is the most draining. Living to work sounds fun .
It has never been in my nature to hold back on my performance. I've always seemed to weigh my pros and cons and resulted with the fact that overall, I'm happier when I do this, because it is more of who I am, its best for all involved, and my integrity, pride, and self esteem are well represented. But.... time after time, job after job, it is constantly apparent that it is never ever worth it.
Only recently have I stopped and considered stepping back, and it was life changing! My homelife, my stress level, and my soul are all thanking this adjustment.
I do still believe that any product produced out of integrity is a far better one. But I don't think I can ever go back to the way I was. We are heading for a sad outcome at this rate. God have mercy on us all. 💕
Good for you. And I relate completely- it's in some people's nature to be hard workers. But sometimes you need to step back, especially to avoid health and family problems. You can't go 100% every single day. That's why God said we have to rest at least ONE day.
Wow! You described it perfectly! This is exactly how I feel. I'm very torn at the moment. I'm still young and people say my only focus should be my career but I love spending quality time with my family. My parents and my sister and I are best friends. We don't always get to stay this way you know.
