    Cale / Grünkohl is a very seasonal product. Traditionally it should only be harvested after the first ground frost.
    That's probably the reason why you never saw it before in German supermarkets, at least not in the fresh produce section.
    In the north of Germany Grünkohl mit Mettenden is a very traditional late fall, early winter meal. Very hearty, very satisfying, but only for those who like meat.

    That was a nice farm and a wonderful market, it's obvious that it's popular to go there. Things like that are really important for the environment helpful for the locals and the diversity of products.
    Definitely something that people should do with their kid's for education.

    You managed to put me in a right Christmas mood! 🌟Despite putting up a few lights and buying some treats as gifts I’ve not been feeling it yet.
    Gertrudenhof is one of the bigger farm shops here, they can vary a lot in size, time and effort they manage to put into them. Some farms don’t seem to sell directly at all, some sell potatoes and apples etc. on an honour based system, some have vending machines, some have a small sales room/yard/farm café and then there are those big ones like Gertrudenhof. I’m not sure whether it’s a blessing or curse that I mostly pass them when I’m on my road bike these days. When I had only my regular bike I’d often end up loading several kgs of produce in my panier bag halfway on my cycling tour and tug that extra weight along. 😂

      I’m happy I could spread some Christmas cheer. Yeah, this farm was well kept and had lots to offer. We really enjoyed our time there. I could imagine the challenge of lugging your shopping home on a bike 😅. This is our first farm so it will be nice to see what others are like. We just went by the pictures on google. I’d like to check out Gertrudenhof. Thanks for watching 😊😊😊

      @@elyce_patricia Gertrudenhof was the one you went to, I think Clarenhof in Frechen and Krewelshof in Lohmar other side of the river are similar in size. I only rode past them though without checking them out. I occasionally shop at another one in Hürth that is closest to me ‘Hofladen Lackstetter’, that’s a smaller one though. Not all farm shops are worth a trip on their own, but nice to stop by if you’re passing them anyway.

    • @V100-e5q

      The rule with the Parkscheibe is that you indicate the next half hour on it. So arriving at 12:40 means you put it on 13:00. Which can give you from 30 minutes to 59 minutes parking time. These are official road signs based on the honor system. So the shape and color is defined by law. I have a plastic one which can also be used as an icescraper.
      They are enforced mainly at downtown areas. There "meter maids" look for violations and also for people coming to their car an advancing the Parkscheibe without moving the car away to another spot. There have been people indicted who used an self-advancing Parkscheibe. They were taken to court and such devices are illegal.
      Also some supermarkets require their use. But at private locations these are not really enforced. As long as the parking lot is not crowded the owners can't see a need.

    • @sandrogattorno4962
      @sandrogattorno4962 3 роки тому

      @@V100-e5q Of corse, if the Parkimeter go ahed himself must be illegal. More, I think who use deserve a fine much Higher than just who park whitout a disk cause is like a scum. But instead if you just need a little more time, then just comin back Dont seem to me a big deal, but ok, if you want you can pretend you go away and the you park again :)

    • @V100-e5q
      @V100-e5q 3 роки тому

      @@sandrogattorno4962 If you are allowed to park for a certain time that's it. No extension. The "Parkscheibe" (It is the proper German name for it) is there to document it. To make it really legal you have to move the car out of the parking space and come again. Which does not really help with the original purpose: to have enough room for all customers. The idea is to make more people able to park, do their business and leave again if you really leave your space and try again as everybody else has to. Most of the time not really an issue at large parking lots. So overstaying is not really an issue. There it is an issue to avoid long-term parking by people who live close by. But at downtown areas parking space is very limited so they enforce obience. Just like overstaying at parking meters.

    I think I am about to burst your happy bubble a little bit here. Not to annoy you, just to make you aware that a lot of the stuff you see here is not grown locally or even in Germany, and it is not "organic".But maybe you already knew.
    Some of things are either not in season, or do not even grow in Germany (avocado!).
    I even see the "San Lucar" brand on the grapes, which is what you get in the supermarket. On the black tags you can actually see where the produce is coming from. D stands for Germany. I saw "I" for Italy, and I think I saw Poland, if I am not mistaken. Some were too quick to see it, but you are hopefully aware that all the stuff is a) not from one local farm, b) not all from Germany. and c) not organic - unless it specifically says so. I would suspect that a lot of it came from the Großmarkt (wholesale market, which is also where supermarkets shop).
    The produce that is in season in Germany though should be quite good, even if it is not organic. I am a bit hesitant to believe that all the eggs are free range, but they either have a stamp that tells you more about their origin, or it should say on the carton or on a sale-sign at the shelf. If you are interested in the origin of eggs, milk, meat etc, there are websites that explain the labeling system in Germany. Just ask your viewers, I am sure someone can point you in the direction. I don't want to spill the comment with a lot of links. The two below should suffice for the moment.
    Just a note, that this is not typical for a "Hofladen" or "Bauernhof", this is very commercialized with all kinds of things. Which doesn't mean it is bad, but I just want to make you aware of the fact that this is not typical and not what you should expect from a normal "Hofladen" or "Bauernhof". The selection will be a lot smaller.
    You can read more here: www.kitchenstories.com/en/stories/how-to-eat-seasonally-all-year-round and
    on this one at the end of the post you have a nice seasonal calendar, so you can see what is actually in season, that will make it easier to pick and choose when you go back.
