    You gotta rinse the rice before you do anything. The rice is packaged and shipped with a coating of starch to prevent the grains from sticking to one another while they're in transit or the store. If you cook without rinsing, you will end up with rice that has a chalky film all over it and it won't be very edible. When you rinse the rice you can very easily see all of the white starch clouding the water.

      I always rinse and soak the basmati rice, I bought Jasmin rice, and did the same thing, but when I cooked it, ugly mushy and sticky rice, I tried another way which is to rinse it without soaking it, I boiled my bouillon and drop the rice for 10 drain it and left it covered with towel for about 15mn heat off, but my rice has the same sticky ugly look,
      I will never by this kind of rice,
      any advise ?

    I never used to rinse my rice. Yesterday, I went to the grocery store and picked up my usual bag of Jasmine rice and it had about a dozen bugs and one worm that looked "maggoty".
    Needless to say, I am now a firm believer in washing rice thoroughly! We aren't cooking with the same crops our parents taught us with....

    Hi Deronda. You taught me how to cook rice 9 years ago when I found this video on UA-cam while at university.
    Totally random but I stumbled across this video again today and just had to tell you that I have been using this recipe for all these years, and also when cooking for the woman that eventually became my wife, and for our children.
    I hope you never stop making these wonderful videos. Thank you!😊.

      I'm so curious about rinsing rice! I read a forum once where the people were split on rinsing or not. Those that said, "YES! RINSE!!" were grossed out by the idea of not pre-rinsing. I never have, bc whoever taught me to make rice didn't say to! Now I feel guilty and weird for not rinsing. 😳 (And doesn't boiling it kill any germs?)

    • @emmalopez4331
      @emmalopez4331 2 роки тому +2

      @@youresoakinginit2113 sorry to reply to an old comment, but the reason you rinse rice isnt to clean it per se, its to clean off the starch. If you try rinsing it once just to see, youll notice the water is a milky white after you rinse. Its not dirty, just starchy 😊

    I had a friend who was Indian, and he made rice with lots and lots of water and boiled it up and when it was done, he squeezed the rice with his hands and squeezed out all the extra water. It tasted good to me. I had never seen anyone do that before, but it worked. I'm not sure if he squeezed out the vitamins and minerals, but it tasted nice.
