  • #hipcamp #full-time rv #Recently, I tried hip new camping platform HIPCAMP. As a full-timer, I need an arsenal of camping options. Sure, I boondock, go to campgrounds and love my Harvest Hosts but I can always use another good resource. So I tried Hipcamp. Today, I'll tell you how the platform works and what I really think of it!

I appreciate your no nonsense approach to vlogging. Nothing worse than clicking on a video titled, 6 things you need to RV and have the first 15 mins full of intros, artsy b rolls and opinions before they ever get to the 6 things. Thank you for the quality of your content.

I have been a HipCamp host for about 18 months now. (Previously with Boondockers Welcome). I can tell you that being a HipCamp host has been a great experience and I like the platform because they handle the money side. With Boondockers I had to collect the fee (this was pre affiliation with Harvest Host) and it was sometimes awkward and there were people who stayed said they'd pay in the morning and then left without paying. Also, I REALLY like the insurance policy. I am in the high desert mountains of NM and offer only one site so campers have lots of privacy. An interesting demographic thing I've noticed is the vast majority of my guests are single women. There are also couples. I've had only 3 single male campers. I charge $20 a night and have water and 15 amp electric at the site.

I envision creating a village built around a hemp farm (for use in making hempcrete blocks for building zero carbon homes) and having a hip camp on the side where folks can come stay, learn about hemp farming, eat garden veggies, and enjoy the community. Maybe I'll call it The Hip Hemp Camp!

Love this - thx for posting. People who don't want to pay anything to camp overnight have to settle for "you may not get the knock" kind of arrangement, which is stressful and also reflects badly on the nomadic lifestyle. Wide open space like hipcamp or similar is some of the best kind of RVing.

@@MsQ275 No, I was talking generally about RV camping in wide open space. When I f/t RVd I was lucky to find a lot of open space boondocking just being in the right place at the right time. When I go back to full-timing I'm prob going to be more planning ahead abt it, tho - jst lessons learned - so making a note of these types of arrangements.

We are not boondocker but we LOVE,LOVE, LOVE camping at hipcamp sites. We pay a bit more because our style requires electric and water. What we enjoy is gorgeous locations with no other campers in close proximity. We had gorgeous mountain views at a Phoenix organic farm with a serene green grass event space on our doorstep. We have reservations at the lone campsite on a small vineyard with 360 degree views of California wine country.

I was a host for Boondockers welcome, until I got tired of "guests" abusing me. Some would arrive in a $200,000 Class A, plug into my 50 amp electrical outlet, make my meter spin then drive off with a thanks a lot pal. Others had excuse after excuse why they could not leave. Offer something for free and see how many moochers show up.
Hipcamp seems like a better deal. The guest gets something of value and the host gets something of value. Those wanting something for nothing can go elsewhere.

I joined HipCamp as a host last year, battled with my town to allow me to offer camping...I was granted 1 camper spot and 3 tent spots on my 10 acres of farmland surrounded by streams, hills, fields and trees. Deer and other wildlife, close to sap house, and pretty quiet except for nature's sounds...I didn't get any campers, and haven't renewed the permit with the town this year, I'm about 3 miles off the beaten path...but safe and quiet. Anyway, I think it is a good program. Blessings!

I’m wondering why you’d even mention it to the town? Isn’t it just quiet enough just to have somebody stay over on your property without getting the town involved? Maybe your property is conspicuous… i’m just wondering how you knew to bring it up to the town hall… I would have never thought of that

We have used hip camp a bit along with Boondockers Welcome. We love it and we are also full time. Good experience down in Big Bend NP in Texas. Remember not all land you can buy and have campers stay on it. I own land in NM and also AZ out in the middle of no where but you still can't allow people to camp on it according to the county. Be careful what you buy when you buy land.

After reviewing listings in areas through which I have recently traveled, I find the vast majority to be outrageously overpriced for primitive camping with no amenities. I’m full time and while I will keep this option in my toolbox, if I’m going to consider paying $40 a night to park my van, it will at a location where some services are included.

It was just a quiet place to park. State parks go for $45 a night in that area. I’m still on the fence about this service.

Boondockers and Harvest host are exclusive to self contained RVs, no vans, cars or tents, even car top. We are working up to an RV some day but don’t want to wait to camp across the country. Does this community allow car/tent campers? We are quiet and we can accommodate the potty thing with port-a johns or a pop up. We just need some expectance 🤞🏻

Wonderful spot with everything u could think of with a flea market, farmers market & the old city spots along highway A1A. I’ve been car camping at HipCamps for about 4 years now. Love it. It’s the first thing I look at when planning my route. My daughter and I did a roadtrip from East to West coast, Hipcamping most of the way. Wonderful hosts. Only once did I get to a camp and decide to leave. Super sketchy, host was not there to meet and texted they were fishing and would be back soon. 20 minutes later, with two Pitt bulls circling my car and no sign of the hosts, I decided to leave. Should have looked at reviews before I booked. I always check carefully now.

I have an issue with Hipcamp property owners. The western US is very fire prone as everyone knows. Hipcamp landowners allow campfires all the time on their property even during high wind events and even when the forest service has banned them in their campgrounds. So I wonder what the liability insurance provided by Hipcamp covers. Will it cover the property loss neighbors experience due to an errant campfire? This is a BIG CONCERN in the area where I live and the local community banned together to get the Hipcamp shutdown. Home insurance is difficult to get for people in the western US and so when your house burns down, well, you're done.

The reply that is using Robin's picture and starts with "Telegram..." is a scammer! Report them by clicking the three dots all the way to the right of that comment and then click Report. @@jennymiller2460 I don't think so. I don't think she'd have put that comment under every single viewer comment. I think she'd have said something in the video, provided a pinned link. I emailed her telling her about it, worried for her reputation and for any viewers who might click on it and give their personal information. Robin is an awesome person, very smart. I hope you watch her past videos. She does great research and shares her findings in her videos. Lots of RV and camping topics.

@@kathykeene2092 Hey Kathy. Robin replied to my email. Said scammer is gone now - although they tend to return with another name. Did you get my last message about checking your credit? Hoping the scammer doesn't do anything with your info. I know the messages looked real and had her picture. I'm sure you're not the only one who replied to it. If you ever get another weird message like that, take a look at replies to other commenters - one way to identify a scam is that nearly every commenter gets the same "reply" trying to get you to click a link, text them, or call them. Any time a YTer really wants you to contact them, or if there is a contest, they will say so in their video. Best of luck

    Good information.
I also see they have a program where if you own land you can signup with them and
    get paid to host camping.
This may be something I look at possibly doing in the next few years as I have a farm close
to a tourist area for nature stuff and could probably do this if it is worth the money.

I am renting a room in Idaho, that I found on Craig's List. But the owner is a hip camp host.
We were talking about Harvest Host vs Hipcamp. Hip camp seemed like a better deal, because I have undeveloped land in Washington.
My landlord' s campers, barter labor for some of the nightly rent.
