Great tutorial! I've held so much back on painting figures with much skin, but seeing you go through the face, step by step, and NOT speeding up the footage so we actually get to follow your process I already feel more confident in my abilities, can't wait to try out your method! Thanks a lot!! :)
I was jusy about to ask how to do this without an airbrush. Nice! Thanks for the videos! A trick I learned was to use a makeup wedge instead of a brush on bigger figures in order to minimize brush strokes.
Up until I watched your video I was scared to paint faces. You have givin me confidence as well as explained how to thin the paint with the wet pallet. I have a few 1/16 figures to paint and this afternoon is the perfect time to start on them
I was resigning myself to buying an airbrush and spending more money to make my custom, I'm glad I found this complete tutorial. Thank you so much for sharing it.
I can’t thank you enough for this video, it helped me finally paint flesh tones successfully today after a long line of failed examples and just base reluctance to attempt again. Thank you so, so much!
Amazing job. For a long time i was thinking i would forcefully need an airbursh to get a good skin painting. I think ill save the money and buy more different skin tone paints.
I have been sculpting and painting figures for the past 2 years which has caused a lot of floaters in my eye ...do you also get floaters doing detailed work?..what kind of environment should I have to do these kind of detailed sculptures?
Very helpful. I use different materials. I noticed you did not spray with Mr.Super Clear first. I will skip that stage because Mr.SC is so expensive. I also found it helpful that you used a different sealer. I use artist and craft acrylics and have had great results. Never even considered an airbrush! But you are right; the layers can be too thick and cakey if you are not careful. Thin layers get results.
I used your red wash technique on my huge 3d printed Kevin McCallister and he looks awesome. Thanks for this video! I’m wondering if I could use clear nail polish on his eyes for a glossy look. I don’t know if I can justify buying a whole bottle of gloss varnish for two eyes. 😹 I will probably just test it on another print to make sure it doesn’t mess it up. I’m so nervous to seal him. 😭
Very nice tutorial. I'm curious, do you paint the skin tone all one color and the hair one color? For example, to make it more dramatic, do you ever paint flesh tones darker under the cheek bones, eye brows or any place where shadows would be just to enhance the 3D effect kinda like you would do on a 2D flat painting?
🔥🔥🔥🔥 I customize 1/10 and 1/12 and can’t ever get my paint right for the eyes. It’s either too thin and runs or too thick and globs. I like to see you do 1/10 or 1/12 head.
I haven't tried painting eyes yet, I'm just terrified. I make 1/12 & 1/18 customs mostly. This video was really clear and easy to understand. You took the time to explain what you were doing and why, which I found really helpful!
Excellent work brother! Thank you I recently got a 6K Anycubic photon( res) so I’m new to this type of painting. I ordered a semi low end air brush & have a vast acrylic palate. Do you hybridize tools if both brushes and spray are available?
Have you worked with super high detail already made eyes? It’s look is ridiculous. I do 1:1/UV cast and carved resin art and my banded octopus turned out almost scary 😊. These have a cornea and striated irises with different size/shaped pupils and from about 2 mm across to probably about 10-20mm. Any brushes or products you’d recommend? Do touch have an air b? What kinds are good?
Thank you so much!!!!!! 100% you helped me with my figures now and in the future. Your the best bro, greatly appreciated!!!!🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼
Great video and straight to the point of things,oh can you say how you paint fur to look like fur as i am painting a warrior with her head-dress on that has fur on it please
Thank you! And painting fur is a matter of wet blending and dry brushing. I like to use the airbrush on fur because it makes it seem more natural. Check out my Kojiro Panther video. I paint feathers on there and fur is pretty close to that method.
I feel like I want to get spray can of flesh tone to accomplish smooth look. I painted 1/12 heads before and hate the look of paint streaks on the surface of the face and I did apply 4 thin layers. I used acrylic paint from Walmart. Would Citadel be better for flat, smoother look?
Anybody got any tips on teeth color? It gets a little tricky when painting gremlin and monster figures it can turn out too white or too dark or a butter popcorn color. I got it before with a gray and white and a gold yellow color but man it can be tricky!
So when the tips of my thin brushes begin to warp and curve, you just cut them down? Trying to paint super fine detail makes me super nervous. I had a Spiderman vs Goblin model and was debating for days on whether I was going to attempt the lines- I decided to pass on it as the figures on the model are already pretty small. I didn't want to take the chance of making it muddy, but it's still bothering me that I didn't go for it.
Usually when the tips gets curvy and warp, it means your brush has had it. It could be that you're loading too much paint at the base of the brush and it dries or sometimes it just happens. I still use those brushes though! Sometimes you can use some brush soap and help straighten them out if you dry them inverted. Tamiya makes some great detail brushes as well. Check out the Amazon links in the description of one of my newer videos.
It's almost the same process. You just have to build up more layers with the pink or red in your skin tones. You can also use a glaze over the darker tone. It might make it easier to see at first.
@@TheCreativeCollector thanks :D Any tips to paint the area between the hair and skin, usually the brush come in contact with the skin area and the black paint ruins everything lol…
@@TheCreativeCollector I bought the same glasses you have to help. But still have trouble: I just ordered that fine brush you have tonight and the paint sets
Thanks sir, you didn't create a head sculpt of anime character sir? I think If you create a head sculpt of Itachi from naruto and looks realistic. There will be an exploding of likes of that video. Well just saying.
Thanks so much! This hobby is so much more accessible to me now that I don’t have to shell out for an airbrush.

Just water

ngl, a smooth airbrushed base layer is game changing
So can I do this on the whole model without airbrush?
Yep. I've done several like this.
This was very informationally impressive, thank you.

Both! It depends on what the situation calls for.

So I'm trying to paint a more pale skintone for battinson, how do you make the skintone more pale? Is it just more white?
Yes but also add a little beige color with it. Might even some rose color but just a tad.
Just a question , so you didn’t use any primer for the base ?
I do believe I added a light coat. I don't use to much primer on the headsculpts because it takes away some of the details if coated too much.
Hey CC, what clear coat did you use for the eyes and the lips here?
I used a Vallejo gloss.

Basic flesh from Vallejo

Any paint would work fine as long as you thin it out good. Paint in layers with thin paint and you should eliminate streaks.
Anybody got any tips on teeth color? It gets a little tricky when painting gremlin and monster figures it can turn out too white or too dark or a butter popcorn color. I got it before with a gray and white and a gold yellow color but man it can be tricky!
well that looked simple enough, thanks for sharing
For plastic do
You have to primer first before painting with acrylic or no ?
I would. That way paint will stick better on the model
what about using pastel dust? do you think it would work for shading?
Yes! I've used it before
@@TheCreativeCollector Thank you so much! Does it cause problems when applying a finish, or are the dust particles too small to scuff it?

Mid size sla printers like Anycubic Photon mono X and Linant Base
what is the game color version of citadel Kislev flesh?
Not totally sure about that one. Maybe just their flat flesh. I usually mix up my own skin tones.
Hello nice video… I have a question can i combined tamiya paints xf-15 and xf-64 for color skin for the head of boba fett ( the mandalorian) ? Thanks
Yes you can! I combine Tamiya colors all the time.

Hi can I ask do you print the figures and busts you paint or do you buy them. I can never seem to find any that are reasonable priced cheers
I print and paint everything myself.
Muchas gracias por tu información es genial tu trabajo.
Hello what brand are the paint used in this video, also where could I get it looks awesome!
I use Vallejo paints. You can find them online, at a hobby shop, or on Amazon.
do you use matte finish paints for skin?
I use a flat finish. Matte tends to have a slight sheen to it.
Thank you very much
Another great tutorial! Any tips for darker skin, like Wesley Snipes? I have a Blade model to paint but I'm not sure how to get a realistic skin tone.
It's almost the same process. You just have to build up more layers with the pink or red in your skin tones. You can also use a glaze over the darker tone. It might make it easier to see at first.
What were you lightening the red with to get the pink. I didnt see any white ? Nice
I basically mixed it into a dark pinkish red and then thinned it down...way down and applied several coats in a glaze.
@@TheCreativeCollector what are you mixing it with?
@@bgrant1512 I'm mixing it with water. You can use thinner but water tends to work better for super thin paints.

I use a gator clip

how do i avoid having brush strokes showing up
Thin your paint a little more. Use thinner rather than water.
Do you print all of your own figures on a 3D printer?
Yes
Do you wait it to dry between each layer of paint?
Yes! Otherwise you'll get streaks in your paint
