    when editing audio, especially for videos or studio work it's important to use flat frequency and closed-back headphones. this allows you to hear your audio in its rawest form. While noise cancelling, beat amplifying and noise isolating headphones may sound intriguing, they're really only catered for a quality listening experience when watching movies, listening to music or podcast like Teppo mentions. Otherwise, when used for editing video/studio audio you think it sounds good through the headphones, because of all these "sound qualities" and then you hear it out loud through speakers and the "beats" you thought sounded crisp and amplified were actually not amplified enough. This is why you may hear something completely different compared to when you are editing.

      I've been trying to look into headphones for editing use, and while I've seen many other people say flat frequency headphones are good, I usually see people recommending open-back headphones for more natural sound. Out of curiosity, what makes you say closed-back headphones are better? If I had to guess, it'd be for sound isolation so other people don't have to hear you edit, or it was just a typo lol, but if it's something else I'd like to know.

    To answer , Why do the headphones sound different when plugged in from when in Bluetooth? It has to do with the DAC(digital to analogue converter), The Sound settings/EQ on the app is saved and applied to the internal DAC. When you plug them in to a computer, they do not use the internal DAC, but the DAC on your computer. Which can by itself have a different sound. And is why the Headphones can sound different. Only free solution I know is to apply the same setting changes/EQ done to the app to your computer. This however will affect anything you plug into your computer and can potentially be complicated. alternative solution is to turn your wired earphones(eg. NTH-100), into wireless headphones. You can do this by getting a Bluetooth adapter like the "FIIO BTR5". You can also use it as an external DAC connected to your computer. Allowing you to have the same DAC wired or wireless. There are other factors to the sound you're getting. But having a single DAC can give you the same sound in general. The size of the BTR5 is about equal to the pointer and middle finger taped together, if travel size is an issue. Long answer but hope that helps.

    Points:
    1. You need to fit the rubber plug in (it is in the ziploc bag along with the colourful clips, jam it in the unplugged side) or it will create channel imbalance and reduced bass. Cable can be inserted to either cups.
    2. They are not too good for travelling due to them being unable to fold up. Even the short 1.2m cable have to be purchased separately as option.
    AKG K371 is another $150 studio headphones that can fold up but their build quality is not on par with Rode.

    The cabeled Sony MDR-headphones for pro audio/studio work gives flat sounding accurate audio.
    Having a dedicated headset for editing is really a major plus, and like so many others have said, bluetooth is a NO-NO - i’ve used the sony xm4 lately, on bluetooth for general editing/cutting, and then just jack’em in with the audio cable for detailed work, with some adjustments to the equalizer they are good enough

    The bad audio of the Bose headphones when wired, have you tried turning the headphones on after jacking them into the computer? The built in amplifiers in the headphones probably won’t be doing their job if you just attach the audio cable but don’t turn on the headphones

  • @theoblivious2
    @theoblivious2 2 роки тому +2

    It's strange. I know there is typically a delay when editing using headphones that are connected via Bluetooth, but I too use the Bose 700s often and I do not have this delay when editing in Premiere Pro. It had also not sounded much different when connected via AUX for me, and seemed relatively sound accurate when listening to my MacBook Pro speakers and Barefoot Sound 01 monitors.
    Or maybe I'm a fool, who knows? 😆

    Yeah, I've been dealing with a similar issue with my Sony WH1000xm4's. They are amazing sounding, but connected via bluetooth you can't edit to music beats because of the lag time. They do sound fairly decent plugged in though. However, I need to get a longer cord like you mentioned so I can have more freedom to move my head and body around. haha! Great video once again.

    I have about 5 pairs of "cheaper" over the ear headphones lying around at the house and I hate all of them.. • @gigihanmandarin
      @gigihanmandarin 2 роки тому +1

      These Rodes are one of the most comfortable headphones in ANY price range. They are built like a tank too. While they are brilliant in monitoring voices (rich, natural mids), the problem is, they are not as good in music listening and ambience sound monitoring (rolled off treble). They are also not very good to travel with due to non-folding design.
      At around the same $150 price range, your other options are AKG K371 (tuned to Harman target curve, can flip into smaller size), Shure 840A (better bass and treble than Rode yet still neutral, loose headband), or Audio Technica M50X (V shaped, old design, skip).

    • @jaredcollins-photo

      @@gigihanmandarin that’s very very helpful! I definitely would want to get something that travels well, but mostly I need to make sure that the cups cover the whole ear and not lay on the ear to maximize comfort and also create a good space for sound.

    • @gigihanmandarin
      @gigihanmandarin 2 роки тому

      You cannot edit with wireless headphones due to latency. An editor should get a pair of (wired) studio monitoring headphones to ensure the videos sound correct. Consumer headphones are coloured.

    • @mahditakach3284
      @mahditakach3284 2 роки тому

      @@gigihanmandarin yeah true they have some latency due to bluetooth conx but a lot are using them as an all in one replacement. while you also have to pay 30 usd to get the cable, the AirPods max use the battery even when plugged in using the external cable unlike the other pairs that could be powered from the device itself. So that might be the reason he got different profiles jumping from iPhone to macbook. Another thing because he mainly use apple eco system, this might be another well integrated pair of headphones into the system. All in all, that could b true or false the analysis i made.
