When Dave got on the cover of Time Magazine, he went to Duke Ellington's house crying saying "Duke it should have been you". This is the greatness of Dave Brubeck.
Super passionate about his craft and gives the best advice anyone could ever give....listen....just listen to what people are saying, to what the music is saying. I'm starting to really like Dave Brubeck....a lot!
An informed ¨Show Master¨ and a very concentrated talk between 2 men would love to see this nowadays. This interview gave me so much to learn about. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I wish the silly interviewer didn't interrupt Dave so much in the middle of his anecdotes! He seems more concerned in chiming in with his opinions than letting the guest finish what he's saying. Mr Brubeck is such a down to earth gentleman for being a Jazz giant, they don't make them like that anymore.
I just watched an interview with Paul Desmond, and the interviewer did the same thing.. I think they get momentarily wowed by their guest and they want to show what they know about the subject-- It is so annoying though.
Ego, the "I, Me, Mine" of George Harrison's song is what kills a lot of what could have been a centering time, like centering your tone on a woodwind instrument... or, listening to the other musicians in the band, instead of boy, I'm going to wow this audience.... I can speak thusly as I've played Jazz for 50+ years, have been guilty of many ego evenings...as I got older, I finally could step outside and look at myself. A lot of things changed after that....

Thank you for sharing this! I wish there were more jazz musicians interviews on Day at Night program.
...vissuta cosi, una vita meravigliosa, per loro che suonavano e per chi gli ha ascoltati e potrà riascoltarli
RIP Dave Brubeck.
Really enjoyed that interview
