Is the illumination on Aurora is as bright as Nova? I like the chevron on Aurora but saw some UA-cam video where the illumination on Aurora seems not bright enough on daylight. Is there a video comparing these 2 reticles' illumination?
I think a lot of people overlook the inherent flaws of battery life, I hunt a lot and love MRAD scopes for distance but at 1x if your battery is dead for a plethora of reasons the NOVA would be hard to pick up being a traditional reticle. For 3 gun and other competitions it would be better then the Aurora but for real world/redundant/repeatable the Aurora is the way to go as a thicker and faster chevron on 1x is the way to go. Great video and products!
Can you do an LED acog with your mil reticle? That would be amazing. At that point I’d buy all your high end stuff. I’d like to keep all my stuff the same
I would go with neither as perhaps PA can address some of the short comings presented by C_Does on his review of the SLx 1-6x24 Nova. Perhaps a GLx version could get us better glass. While you are at it, I would like to see windage dots on the Nova version. Willing to pay more to get better glass, but not at the PLx prices.
@codyscorner4337 I have been saving up to get the Trijicon Credo HX 1-6x24 after I saw a review of it on UA-cam by C_Does. Most recently I saw that Arken released a new LPVO, the EP8 1-8x28 with the KL Box reticle. Lots of people hate the reticle (without trying it), but it makes sense to me. Arken claims it will come with Japanese glass, which sounds very promising. I may wait for a review or at the 25% discount they are offering now I may take the plunge.
You need to keep in mind that C-Does was comparing the PA Nova to the Vortex Viper PST Gen. 2 which is about $250 more expensive than the Nova putting it in the next higher class of LPVO's and the PST is at the top of that higher class!
I went with Nova because it’s going on a 16” barrel LR308 and I want the brightest reticle at 1x for primary use and the Nova is so bright it can hurt your eyes lol. This rifle isn’t going to see much use beyond 300 yards. If I need to go beyond that, my 24” 6mm ARC is up to the challenge with better ballistics and an Apollo reticle.
Nova. A 1-6 power LPVO is the "mathematically perfect" power range for a variable power scope that goes down to 1x. And with the max power being 6x, you really don't have enough magnification for positive target identification at extended ranges, so there is little point in having a reticle with BDC & wind holds for 600 700 / 800 yards & beyond. Having a "red dot bright" dot on a LPVO with near-perfect 1x allows for it to be used just like a red dot, with the luxury of being able to dial up the power for longer distances. A 1-6 power LPVO is perfect for 0-400 yards, which also happens to be the distances that the Nova is also perfect for. The added capabilities of the Aurora are best exploited on a scope with higher magnification capabilities. The PA ACSS Nova 1-6 is the ultimate budget LPVO, and is the scope that I dream someday of putting on a 16" Ruger SFAR that I would name "Thumper". You just need to lighten up the friction of the magnification ring so that a pipe wrench isn't required to quickly / easily change the magnification. (Hopefully a ScopeSwich will make changes to magnification easier.)
