Both. Scanner is my diagnostic derectional tool. Automotive scope is my pinpoint digital tool.

I think a scope is a most in diagnosing a vehicle properly plus you need a scan tool that can read all the modules on the car. Now adays you can get a nice scanner and scope for under 2k easily maybe even under a 1k
