Prepping my kitchen cabinets now and Sherwin Williams is recommending Extreme Bond Primer and for paint Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel!
I hope they are shooting me straight

That’s not the worst combo as long as there aren’t any tannins present in the wood your painting. If there is, the primer will get yellow “bleeders” into the prime coat. You will need extreme block, pro block oil or some other oil primer. If your spraying I would recommend Gallery Series over Emerald however if your brushing and rolling Emerald will be best for you

      Well dangit
I already got everything from Sherwin Williams
I took all doors and drawers all the way down to bare wood.
I was gonna re stain but wife decided they should be painted
These cabinets are 30 years or older
I will lightly sand the rest of the cabinets
      Using Gracco airless 360
I guess just hope for the best
Thanks for the video and reply

For red oak I do scrape coat aquacoat then apply of Kem Aqua Primer Surfacer E64w520. Kem Aqua blocks tannins well.
The Gen II is my overall favorite primer where tannin blocking isnt needed.

Aqua coat works very well at grain fill👌🏻 that sounds like an A+ system to me

Does the Evo primer can be applied to already stained finish cabinets or will it bleed through

It depends what kind of wood it is. If it’s cleaned properly, lightly sanded and you apply 2 coats of primer and wait 24 hrs before topcoat it then you will have the best chance of not getting any bleeding. Some woods like western red oak Evo will not stop the bleeding as it’s loaded with tannick acid

Have you used the sw extreme bond primer? Which one would you use on newer smooth cabinets that doesn’t need tanning blocking or high build. Trying to avoid the bridging on floating panels. Can you one company primer and different top coat? Thanks.

Extreme bond is a good option as it works best in ultra thin coats. Or I think you would like the Gemini Evo primer and topcoat it’s a super fast drying thin coating

You can always use a different primer brand than topcoat in most cases however if you use a Sherwin primer and a Sherwin topcoat and you have something weird happen your rep is more apt to warranty the system. I’ve use all of these primers with various topcoat’s with great success
