I'm a double bass player and I wanted to evaluate the EBS compared to the Acoustic Box. For me, even if it's still not fully satisfactory, the EBS comes out on top in this test for double bassists. Thanks again for your work (Francis from France)
Oui le EBS est un excellent préampli. Seulement, je trouve que le placement des connections, LED, potentiomètres, interrupteurs n'est pas très logique. Je vais peut être faire une video sur ce produit.
Interesting video! I never thought, that the results are so very different. I like it crystal clear, sharp and transparent. #3 is my double bass favorite.
Thank you! #3 for double bass, really? That was the passive PPC DI box and I had to turn up the gain, because a passive DI is actually not suitable for piezo. But rules can be broken! (But did you listen through headphones or a good sound system?)
2 and 6 were my favorites for DB and Jazz. The Precicion did sound quite well with most of the boxes. I was impressed how good the HiZ from the interface sounded. Very usable.
I'm amazed at how great the 77 Jazz bass sounds through all DI inputs. The G&L also sounded consistent. For Double bass my favorite is the EBS followed closely by 4. I also liked 5 & 6. I use the Fishman Platinum Pro DI and I love it. It's solid, has a turner with mute, compressor and the EQ is very useful. Just a shame the boost switch is noisy. Great video and love the channel.
Thank you! Yes this bass (77 Jazz) has some magic, mojo or however you want to call it 😃. I never tried the Fishman Platinum, I will try to borrow one.
# 2 for the Double Bass For the elctric basses it depends a bit on the genre you play, I think. They all sound somehow usable, but # 5 Monkey Banana seems to me to work for the J & P on a good average. But yes, sound is a matter of taste. ;-) Nice test, thx!
Hi Hervé, great video as always!! I am impressed that most of your DIs could handle the piezo signal. My expectation was, that only one or two would sound good. My votes : Upright : #2 and also #4 Jazzbass: #6 G%L : #4 and also #8 . #7 sounds strange, like there is some preamp involved that adds some dirt to the signal. But not a "good" dirt, if you know what I mean ;-) Best, Frowin
Wow, yes the thing with the G&L and the IMG DI also occurred to me, I am impressed that you also found out so quickly! I don't know where it came from or if there was an "error" somewhere. Thanks for your feedback!
@@herve_jeanne your welcome :-) As a tip for your second video with some boutique DI's, I can recommend the WR Gnome tube DI. It's coloring the sound very much, but it does it very very good. For a passiv electric bass that's my favorite.
Thank you, I will keep it in mind. Which other ones would be interesting? Avalon DI, Noble, maybe the Grace Design Felix, any other ideas? Is the WR from a manufacturer from Luxembourg, or is that another device (I am not talking about Basswitch, there was a tube device from Luxembourg, I forgot the name...).
@@stringmatrix Hi Hervé , yes WR is the manufacturer from Luxembourg. You could also choose these DI's: Telefunken TDP1, Rupert Neve Design, Sonic Farm 2D14 MkII, Radial PZ DI (for upright bass) and an Universal Audio 710d. Best, Frowin
please help me, which one of these DI best for my digital amp modeler with EMG (active pickups)? which uncolored my tone and have crystal clear sound delivered. Regards!🙏

@@stringmatrix Listened through cheesy MacBook. Will listen again later via studio speakers.

en effet j 'aimerai bien un comparatif entre l'EBS et le Felix préamp par ex :) super vidéo comme d'hab bravo pour ton travail
Ok bonne idée !! Merci !
I liked 6, 5, 8, 2 in that order the best.
Thanks for the testing, my vote are, Upright 2, Jazz 2 or 6, precision 1 or 6. Only listened through once for a instinctive response though
Thank you!

For upright 2, 4 and 8 were all pretty darn good
Nr 6. I actually own one like that. Version 2. These are still available. As far as I know.

To be honest, I found the difference so subtle that I would say you can take any DI box of the established brands.
Palmer, PPC and IMG Stageline on the upright are not usable, all others are ok with UA-cam-compression-sound for live.
For double bass , 2,4,5,6,8
Same for me on double bass.
