please stop comparing oasis and blur. they have nothing in common since two and a half decade. there are 3 or 4 good songs of oasis, but they never made an album as great as 13, the modern life is rubbish or even this one.
I can't remember the last time a song gave me goosebumps. I can't believe just how incredibly beautiful the chorus is, that contrast between an upbeat, uplifting melody and the crushingly sad lyrics. This is a masterpiece.
especially for non native speakers, also I loved the visualizer. They dont need a sofisticated video their music is enough and lyrics help us to sing out loud ;)
My instant favourite. It’s brilliantly beautiful, uplifting melodic pop, although with very good, poignant lyrics. And the end of the song, when it all lifts and goes up a key (time stamp 3:34) is actually some of the the best Blur… ever, for a long time, whichever.
My love for blur started in 1990 seeing them at Sheffield octagon and 4 more times over the year's..this is a stunning album..iam 52 and still a fan..Good work gents I Salute 🫡 you
I'm currently living this song. Twenty years and now no home, no wife, no dog. In an apartment alone with boxes and not even a bowl or cup to piss in. It wasn't incidental... which is why we both are still close. Rather, it was incremental and it signified how we both have changed and grown emotionally yet also, so sadly, apart. There is nowhere to go and no one to blame and the most important thing I can do is to continue to be a kind and loving man. Even though it all hurts so goddamn bad. It is truly barbaric. So phucking barbaric.
I'll bow to you guys. Had to listen to it a couple more times after the first... My mind, took me to The Smiths, Joy Division, The Cure, Crowded House, Bowie and a bit of Duran Duran. It's great when a song, in this god forsaken moment, takes you through these great musical memories. Thank you all.
Fabulous song on a first class written album. Waited too long for the Blur boys to make this comeback and boy, they have not disappointed. Damon Albarn is a genius and a credit to the music industry and the whole group is a brotherhood
Barbaric Lyrics [Verse 1] Who blinks first? You're gonna win The fallen doves of lovers' vows In the world all around us And I'd like, if you've got the time To talk to you about what this breakup has done to me [Chorus] I have lost the feeling that I thought I'd never lose Now where am I going? At what cost, the feeling that I thought I'd never lose It is barbaric [Verse 2] Now you can't play to every taste The powder keg of common cause All of us carry trauma And in owe of an explanation I will pour oil from the cup on the pyre of abdication [Chorus] You have lost The feeling that you thought you'd never lose Now wherе are you going, darling? At what cost, the feeling that you thought you'd nevеr lose And it is barbaric [Verse 3] Empty grove, winter darkness We're taking down the scaffolds very soon Grow dappled, the lonely baubles on the plane tree The can of soup and heating up to ten Which leads me to the part Where we agreed on different dreams [Chorus] That we had lost the feeling that we thought we'd never lose Now where are we going? At what cost, the feeling that we thought we'd never lose It is barbaric We have lost the feeling that we thought we'd never lose Now where are we going? We have lost, the feeling that we thought we'd never lose It is barbaric, darling We have lost the feeling that we thought we'd never lose Now where are we going? We have lost, the feeling that we thought we'd never lose It is barbaric
I know this 2023 is still goin' on, but I've already my song of the year.. No contest. Barbaric makes me feel better, makes me feel happy despite the lyrics. We haven't lost that feeling, though. Thank you Blur
Almost reluctant to make that statement, but this might be Blur's best album. Thirty two years in, that's saying something, isn't it? It's saying something.
Blur's ninth studio album, "The Ballad of Darren," has finally arrived, marking a triumphant return for one of the most influential and critically acclaimed bands of the last 30 years. Produced by James Ford and recorded at Studio 13 in London and Devon, the album represents a departure from the band's previous work, which often featured a playful and ironic tone. "The Ballad of Darren" is a more mature and introspective offering, delving into themes of loss, regret, and the relentless passage of time. The album kicks off with its titular track, a poignant and soulful ballad that grapples with the profound impact of a father's passing. It serves as a moving tribute to a dearly departed loved one. Following this is "The Sound of the World Falling Apart," a more upbeat composition that tackles the challenges of modern life. It serves as a reminder that even amid chaos, there remains beauty to be discovered. Throughout the album, a series of songs explore a wide range of emotions, including love, loss, regret, and hope. Each composition is meticulously crafted and skillfully performed, showcasing the band's continued musical growth. The album concludes with "The Ballad of Damon," a reflective piece that contemplates the band's own career. It serves as a poignant reminder of Blur's enduring impact on British music and provides a fitting close to a powerful album. "The Ballad of Darren" stands as a well-crafted and thought-provoking album from one of the foremost bands in contemporary music. It is an essential listen for Blur enthusiasts and anyone who appreciates skillfully composed and intellectually engaging pop music. Mate, for every 1 decent blur song, oasis have at least 20 decent songs, u obvs weren't around in the 90s, 2 quality bands btw but don't be daft to ever think blur were ever on the level of oasis, only a fucking total fool would come out with that pish, also I do love this particular blur song but took them about 20 years to release this while oasis have broken up and Liam and noel, by just doing their solo stuff after oasis prob have a better back catalogue than blur, I've seen oasis many times and blur zero times, says it all yet have bought a few blur albums only to be disappointed as have about 2 or 3 good songs on them yet every oasis single has 3 good songs never mind their albums with a lot more, stupid comment mate imo but each to their own I suppose 👍
That's why I am checking Blur out again due to the Oasis getting back together. Blur were always better, there is something different with Blur, some of their tracks are insanely good, like the universal, just crazy
From now on for the rest of the summer and the beginning autumn its getting really loud 'n noisy in the car, as i'll be singing horribly and loud along with Damon and the guys to "barbaric" and the other brilliant songs from "...darren" .... Enjoy life ´´n go for it, thats why these guys are constantly creative ... just to enlighten our lives a bit in these confusing times
Hey do you mind me asking, how did Blur get so big in Mexico? I've noticed a lot of comments from Latinos on several videos and I'm genuinely curious how a little British rock band got so big in a country that speaks a different language. Love from the UK!
@@Dmitrikrotchlikmyov That's a good question that I would also be very interested in. And that's also the case in Asia and Sweden. Blur are huge there
@@sylkewatter1170 maybe it's just like a Rammstein thing where people appreciate the music without having to understand the lyrics. Gotta be a reason it's so big in certain countries though 🤔
@@Dmitrikrotchlikmyov funny enough, I also like Rammstein. Recently travelled from Mexico to see them in their European tour, Is amazing to see them live here and even though we don't know or understand their lyrics you can hear everyone in their concerts singing out loud.
Remembering VERY VERY MUCH "THE CHRISTIANS"! Was astonished to hearing at the end of this song that it's Blur. Remembers so much the wonderful sound of The Christians in the 80s/90s.
"This song should have been the first single of the album, the lyrics fully embrace the loss of mutual love, a beautiful explanation of what happens to us without being able to understand it."
Can’t BELIEVE I’m hearing new BLUR songs in 2023!!!! Massive longevity. Legends. Many more years of epic tunes to us all. Love to Damian and the band. 🤘🏼✨🙌🏻 #blurforever
I’d say this is the most catchiest song on the album and my original favourite (find it similar to my fav blur song coffee and tv).. after many listens of the album I feel like every song is as great or at least close to..
Please don't ever leave us Blur. What an album, what a band.
Blur are in another planet then Oasis
please stop comparing oasis and blur.
they have nothing in common since two and a half decade. there are 3 or 4 good songs of oasis, but they never made an album as great as 13, the modern life is rubbish or even this one.
Not too shabby Mano
yikes! 🤣
agreed
"Now you can't play to every taste" Damon is so honest, so raw and such a creative mastermind genius.

Songs give me goosebumps all the time, guess i'm a slut, but i'm obsessed with this one and this whole album.
The vocal production and performance are achingly beautiful and impressive technically. My current favorite song in the world
Thanks Blur for putting the lyrics to the songs. Makes the experience to listen to it more rich.
especially for non native speakers, also I loved the visualizer. They dont need a sofisticated video their music is enough and lyrics help us to sing out loud ;)
Damon has broken up with his long term partnership at Xmas....
Confused on the lyric, plane tree, I thought would have been plain tree. What is a plane tree? A tree of planes?
My instant favourite. It’s brilliantly beautiful, uplifting melodic pop, although with very good, poignant lyrics.
And the end of the song, when it all lifts and goes up a key (time stamp 3:34) is actually some of the the best Blur… ever, for a long time, whichever.
Yep best Blur song in a long time, one of their best.
Couldn’t agree more, absolutely fantastic!!
It's majestic
I usually hate when songs do that but this is awesome...
Damon is a master of contrasting hopeless lyrics with upbeat melodies
"The falling doves of lovers' vows" is perfect
You ain’t wrong Damon is an absolute genius!
Couldn't have put it better myself! Brilliant.
I'd say a modern songwriter who does that well is Matty Healy. Looking For Somebody To Love, Its not living, Ugh, very well done.
It sucks because hopeless Lyrics are cringe, the instrumentals are great and hopefull. Like stop being so sad moron, write inspiring stuff
He hasn't lost any of his voice! Amazing
But have lost the feeling that he thought he'd never lose
*It is barbaric.*
the progression change on 3:35.... unnghhh. so good.
Simultaneously makes me happy and cry every time, no matter where I am. Masterpiece.
The Narcissist and this are the best songs on this album in my opinion but its great we get to enjoy REAL music in this day and age 🎶✌️
That blur drops a new album means everything to me
Genius from start to finish, so much sunny space in the music, so much resignation & sadness in the words.
This is one of the best Blur Songs of all time. instant Classic for me

Awesome memories! I am 40. Saw Blur in 1997 in Denver at the Ogden Theater. Tiny venue. Great show!! Opened with Beetlebum.
The most beautiful song in whole album! Thank you.
That song is a timeless masterpiece at least in my opinion.
Another fantastic track on a brilliant Album! Lovely to have Blur back. Thank You!

I was reminded of 'Uncertain Smile' and 'This Is the Day', both by The The.
I got more Joy Division/Cure vibes, the chorus on the bass does it for me.

You're gonna win
The fallen doves of lovers' vows

The powder keg of common cause
All of us carry trauma
And in owe of an explanation
I will pour oil from the cup on the pyre of abdication
[Chorus]
You have lost
The feeling that you thought you'd never lose
Now wherе are you going, darling?
At what cost, the feeling that you thought you'd nevеr lose
And it is barbaric
[Verse 3]
Empty grove, winter darkness
We're taking down the scaffolds very soon
Grow dappled, the lonely baubles on the plane tree
The can of soup and heating up to ten
Which leads me to the part
Where we agreed on different dreams
[Chorus]
That we had lost the feeling that we thought we'd never lose
Now where are we going?

Highlight of the album & 100% resonate with the lyrics right now!

Words really cant do justice to just how beautiful this song is.
Superb Thanks !!!!!!!

After learning hes just split from his 25 year relationship this song hurts so bad
It is not the 25 years. I lost the feeling that I thought I'd never lose in just 1 year... It is just the feeling...
You go deep in such a playful way: beautiful contrast 🫶
And when the strings kick in at the outro ... dats whare the drama heart explodes .. 3:35
Exactly this with the strings.
And the song on repeat and crying until the pain is forgotten...
Maybe their best album ever.
Remember when people were discussing who was better oasis or blur. I feel sad for the people who thought wrongly oasis were better.
Blur couldn't top Morning Glory, that's why Oasis won. Only facts.
