i think japan tried to do the wacky edit human face to tell the player "Why are you doing this, but this is kinda funny"
but then actually gave the players the "Do it again and i will be your sleep paralysis demon"
I actually bought that, and I actully hated the kid, so I tried to escape him as a joke, and got this.
I was too old to be scared by the creepy faces LOL. I just thought they were goofy. That's because I was an adult when the GB camera was released. I still had a gameboy from my teen years so I decided to buy a GB camera and mess around with the features. I am fascinated by all things camera related.
That thumbnail was pure trauma for me as a kid
I think, This was the humor of Japanese kids in 90s (same logic why the infamous Sonic CD's "Infinite Fun" easter egg was considered as a joke)
eh the thing is for sonic cd's easter egg the music was a lot more upbeat and cheerful for eu/jp releases of it, while the us was so much more scarier. if u search up "sonic cd easter egg japan" then you'll see how much less scary it is

The Japanese music for that was much different and upbeat
Majin was just the dev's nickname
And to finish this off. They just thought it looked humorous to them(Usually. Some Japanese kids still found it creepy)
@@the_moon_gazer Yeah, the only reason it was scary for us US players was because an entirely different soundtrack was composed for the game. And since the easter egg used Eggman's boss theme, and in Sonic CD's US Release Eggman's theme was quite siniater, it led to the infamous reputation it has today.

I used an emulator called mGBA: it's actually for the Game Boy Advance, but it allowed me to actually get the Game Boy Camera running (other emulators don't know what to do with the camera part of it).

What's also weird is that if you use the GB Advance link cable with a printer and this camera, these faces pop up when you try to print something. The cable is missing some pads compared to the GB link cable and it doesn't fit in the printer (only when you clip off the plastic notch)

i was freaked out the frst time i saw some faces, thought it was like some analog horror shit lol.
Maybe I‘m weird but…. I didn’t really considered them as weird when I was a kid. It was just goofy and funny to look at. But nowadays I don’t really get why they implemented something like that. Kinda disturbing tbh

I forgot about this until I was cleaning out some stuff and plugged it in. The dancing Mario gave me an eerie feeling. And I couldn’t figure out why I felt so much dread. Became suspicious of the camera even.

Hi Aaron! I’m looking into who the people in the photos are? Would you be able to help with this? It’s my personal goal at the minute, so it’d mean the world to me. :)
Hey Lynsey! Hopefully I can help some with the information I gathered when making this video: from the research I had done, I didn't come across any sources that gave more information on specifically who the people in the photos were. It appears that they were probably Nintendo employees, either from Nintendo of Japan or America or both. I did try a face detector on the photos just to see if I could discover anything new, but it didn't create any new leads. I think this would be an interesting thing to dig a bit deeper into, perhaps someone could find a photo of the employees at the time and see if anyone looks similar, or an obscure interview from someone on the team about it. That would be awesome to discover and fully solve the mystery.
Thank you so much for responding! I’m currently attempting to dig up some info on the WayBack Machine, since Nintendo’s website has existed since ‘96, two years before the camera. I’ll respond when I can, if I do find anything. :)
@@AaronCShow I found a quote on Reddit saying ‘Although they're commonly now thought to be just a weird form of creator cameos (at the very least, the Kiss-looking one seems to have a very similar facial structure to Hirokazu Tanaka)’. This could be a good lead.
