I think the reason they have refurbished is because of the account limits, the day ours arrived they opened up the RV service, I asked to switch to that plan but they said its impossible because the hardware is different somehow?? (I know this is not true) the only way to switch service is to return the one we received since it's still during the return period, and buy another??? if you're past the return your only option is to buy another dish,? it doesn't make sense but it is what it is! I don't know how many people return the equipment just to change plans but thats were some of the refurbished systems must come from.

Verizon pulls the same shit with a phone that you spend over $1000 on. It should be illegal to do it. Hope you get good reliability out of this one.

i wonder if thats what was wrong with ours, freaking worked 1 day, then kaput , dish doesnt stow, it doesnt connect on the app, the debug makes no real sense but shows the dish not reachable and havent really gotten any support since the first intial troubleshoot which was we damaged the cable on install with stupid proprietary cable connector, and last message we got was good luck with your repairs like wtf man i aint paying a single dime til this frigging works. i barely got it "working" by fiddling with the pin on inside of dish pole and by working i mean one end of the dish gets slight warm, not warm enough to warm a cats bum, no just warm enough to notice a different temperature on surface

Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news nobody has paid full price for the star link dish for home use. Full price is $2500, we get them at $500 it is a steep very steep discount. There are other UA-cam channels that break this down for the Starlink that it is $2500 for the dish it self. Hope this helps take the sting out of it a little bit. They now have a commercial version where you have to pay $2500 for the dish and $500 per month for service.

    • @igowhereimtowed6839
      @igowhereimtowed6839  2 роки тому

Interesting how bad news is used to achieve clicks for UA-cam channels. Per the StarLink website they are offering two platforms to choose from. The standard $499 for equipment and $99 a month for service. Premium service of $2500 for equipment and $500 a month for service. So until StarLink changes their policy you have a choice between two platforms. I hope this comes as good news for you.

Quick question... when you got your refurbished router, did you just plug it in, and it started working, or did you have to do something else? Our system started disconnecting like yours. We just got our refurbished router today, and there are no instructions... no documentation at all, just the router. Thank you for a very informative video.

@@pitabury No after a short time it failed with a different issue. Starlink support wanted to send another refurbished unit. Replied with a request for a new system. Given the fact I already had a refurbished failed. They agreed and sent me a new system.

From the Starlink app go to support, then troubleshooting, chose the issue you are having if not listed then other, description of your issue and submit they don't make it straight forward you have to work through their links

finally got my system after waiting over a year. Have also had multiple things that I am not happy with. Was aggravated right off when I got the "new version" system and had to pay more not only for the system, but also for an added ethernet "adapter". Can't hardly believe they made a router with NO Ethernet port, I mean who does that? Let alone what is claimed to be the most "tech advanced" company in the world or whatever.
Further this is not the system that I signed up for, when I signed up it was what is now called the "version 1" system that had the round dish. In that system, the router HAS an ethernet port which I need... and which any router would have.
So I had to order the "ethernet adapter" a couple weeks ago, which I am STILL waiting for them to even ship. They currently show it "should ship" sometime in may. So right now all I have is wifi.... And even when I get the adapter it will just add more wires and mess to be in the way, as it goes between the router and dish. Also just adds another thing to "go wrong" or break. Just completely unnecessary.
Also the system I received to me appeared to be a refurb unit to begin with. Like you said on yours, no I didn't see imperfections. But the way it was packed and etc made it appear that it was a returned unit.
This "version 2" also appears to be a rushed production, and not a finished system. For instance there appears to be LEDs on the front of the router as you would expect... but they are not leds, they are nothing... just empty "holes". You can't even tell when the router has power unless you pick it up and turn it upside down, then there is a tiny power light on the bottom...
Also the speeds I've gotten are FAR lower than what was claimed. The first day when I set it up, I was getting around 150mbs down and 10 upload which was decent. But after the first day I average around 50 - 60mps download, and anywhere between 3 and 8 upload. However I've seen it far lower. Response and load times in the browser is also disappointing. Its not really any better than the hotspot I was using, and I now have around $700 in this and still have to make a permanent mount.
And I've ALSO had connection problems although not as often as what you showed on your system.
I think they are just rushing this "mass production model" out there, and they are adding too many people without activating more satellites. Very Disappointed Overall.

Sorry to hear you are not happy with your system. If there is the letter R after the model number. Look at the label on the side of the box. If the R is there then you have a refurbished system. We are currently in a location with no cell service. If it was not for our StarLink system and WiFi calling. We would be without a phone for the summer. There are a lot of trees so we have obstructions. This causes a loss of signal for 2 to 18 seconds. Even with that we are glad to have our system. Thanks for watching our videos and for your comment.

@@igowhereimtowed6839 Thanks for the info on the "R" refurb designation. I just looked at the router and it show the model as UTR - 211. So I guess it should have second "R" at the end if it was refurb?
We live in rural area too, and barely have cell service from att. no other carrier reaches here. But I put in a signal booster that helps some. But using it for a primary internet, between the low signal and speeds, plus the monthly cost and data limits, is the reason why I put my deposit in for starlink. Which even though they increased the monthly price, starlink costs about $40 less than I was paying for my hotspot data. And *currently* starlink has unlimited data... now I'm wondering how long that will last.
I have my dish sitting out in a completely open clearing. It shows no obstructions in the app. I've did the "plug and unplug" reset, didn't seem to help with speeds, but did that mostly because of some connection issues. Maybe the speed will pick up at some point, we'll see. You got a new sub by the way :-) Will be watching more.

@@igowhereimtowed6839 I just re-read your post. The letter R is on the BOX not the router. I'll have to look tomorrow, stored the box in my barn in case I ever had to return it.

@@Yhrim70 Look at the label on the side of the shipping box. That's where the "R" at the end of the model number. Would be if it is a refurbished system. As for your speeds give it some time. They are still deploying satellites. With more satellites speed will become more stable. Check out the following web site starlink.sx
This will not work on a phone. You need to use a desktop or laptop. Once you zoom in on the map for your location. Box. In the upper right corner. The second icon left of the question mark. Will let you place your system on the map. This will show you the satellite you are connected to. As well as secondary satellites that your system can connect with. On the left side of the screen blow the plus and minus is the info icon. This will tell you what you are seeing on your screen. What ground station and what POP you access the internet with. Hope this helps. Again we appreciate you taking the time to watch our videos and comment.
