Finally ive been looking for somthing like this for a while over a year I was guessing it was this way but no one has really made a video like this that ive seen
Awesome. Would LOVE to see you guys recreate Bob’s death from the original. That scene has stuck with me since I was a kid and I’ve still never quite figured out how to impale a guy to a wall with his feet dangling off the ground and shown full body. I’d love to see that happen to Josh. … wait. I mean I’d like to see Josh play Bob in the recreation. Of that FX. Yes. That. Heh.
Great Tutorial! we had a stabbing scene in our yearly Halloween Horror Short Film as well but we used a real knife for the "safe" scenes and a cut-in-half plastic prop knife strapped to a belt under a shirt to show it once the knife is in the body. During the stabbing I just showed the faces of the actors reacting to the stab. It's a shame that we already wrapped up shooting the film back in July when this video wasn't out! Well, I'll save that awesome technique for next year!💯🔥
I am so glad you put that warning on the begining of the video for what happened at the end of this. I have called my therepist and you can expect the bill in the mail once I have my session. But other wise I looks like bloodtober is BACK BABY!!! WWWWHHHHHOOOOOOOO. Sorry I will see myself out.
You guys should make a tutorial on the Berman sisters deaths from “ FEAR STREET” they used a perfect amount of practical effects and cgi in their deaths.
Handy tip > If you do this, and have a camera that can, change the shutter speed so it's fast enough there's no motion blue, put a couple of tracking markers on the knife, track motion without needing to do much fixing and add the motion blur at the end.
They do stuff like this so often in the Special Effects industry I'm starting to think it's a meme at this point. It goes by so fast in the actual clip you don't even notice it, even when you're looking or it.
Excellent Video! Loved it. It would be so very helpful for this tutorial to be redone in Davinci Resolve for those of us that are AE wizards but have switched and are now lost in Reslove for fx. Keep up the great content.
Cool effect!! I have a question, Are you working on a short film right now? If not, will you be doing one soon? But if you are, will it be bigger than Ballistic? Tank who!
Worth to point out than when you extract the knife you switch to a different angle (slightly from behind) so you don't need any effect. You already "sold" the stabbing so no need to do it again. Which of very pragmatic.
No, Dean Cundey didn't invent the steadicam, but he was one of the earliest adopters of it. The specific version they used in Halloween - if I remember correctly - was the Panaglide
Love practical effects or a combo with digital where practical can't be achieved. Thanks I was terrified about using squibs method with that tire pump, but the syringe, fuck why didn't I think of it? Thank you! Please sometime demonstrate practical shooting effects, bullet wounds with smoke and spurting blood. Because digitally, I hate camera tracking a person to animate blood or use blood brushes and preset videos.
Hi, I had question.. my sounds designer sent me 5.1 mix file and I have to put this mix file in video timeline and export as 5.1 mix so which setting should be there required.. can you help me with this..
Wouldn't be complete without Michael singing his own theme. Great episode!
Imagine getting a refreshing drink from the fridge only to get stabbed my Michael Myers 😅 He looks like a fun colleague though.
Yannick... CATCH!!!!

This effect doesn’t even look like a visual effect. Looks so good
Bro, this feels like the golden age of film riot, this show is unironically a big part of my childood, it's time I say thank you. Nice work
Feeling the nostalgia with this one. Reminds me of the episode years ago you did with JT being shot and the blood coming out of his head.
My god I’m shocked at how good this looks I was convinced you used a retractable blade. This is insanely realistic.
Best film channel #1
The practical stuff is even more impressive than the CG. Great work!!
An effect I have wanted you guys to cover for so long, I swear. You guys are great!
First film riot episode ive watched in years, this was like the old times! Great job
Um… y’all can say this was “fake” and make a tutorial “proving” it, but I’m pretty sure that Michael actually stabbed Josh.
Would of been easier :D
Looks real to me
We talking to the ghost of Josh then?
Finally ive been looking for somthing like this for a while over a year I was guessing it was this way but no one has really made a video like this that ive seen
Love the practical effects mixed with digital effects. Great!
Great knife sfx everyone! Loved it when Michael/Justin starts humming his own theme song. Very meta. Then the dancer at the end,lol
Thumbs up just for the intro warning. I appreciate you guys taking the extra step to care about your viewers.
Love when you guys make horror or blood related videos!
Some of your best work
love this! singing his own theme song was hilarious!
This vid got me in the feels. So nostalgic for the original Halloween films
The blood adds so so much!!!!! This looks great!!! 🙌🙌
Awesome! Same way I did the effect a few years back in a Halloween fan film. Very nice

… wait. I mean I’d like to see Josh play Bob in the recreation. Of that FX. Yes. That. Heh.
Just really impale him. XD
This is very nostalgic IndyMogul… I love it
That intro was class hahaha

Bloodtober is back baby!
Awesome tutorial guys! Bloody simple and fun!! 😂💀
Great Bonus At The End!
This episode is well planned... I love it😁... The ending, Michael really enjoy killing at Halloween time😂
Nice. I'll keep this in mind for my own shorts.
Halloween is such a classic horror franchise
Good episode guys. Is it just me or is josh jacked? Hitting the gym my boy? Kidding. That dance at the end though 🤣
Hey! I just bought a Michael Myers mask earlier today for a spec shoot this month. Good timing!
Great tutorials as usual
I think my favorite part of this whole video was at 9:00 when the blade of the comped in knife is upside down lol
Yep! Haha
That John wick stab effect 2:33 really stands out
Be Kind, Rewind... Nice touch 👌👌👌
Film Riot the best
Yessiiiiiiir!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You guys should make a tutorial on the Berman sisters deaths from “ FEAR STREET” they used a perfect amount of practical effects and cgi in their deaths.
4:02 wtf u guys are different holy crap i think u 2 are the same person 🙂
Handy tip > If you do this, and have a camera that can, change the shutter speed so it's fast enough there's no motion blue, put a couple of tracking markers on the knife, track motion without needing to do much fixing and add the motion blur at the end.
Getting kidnapped and murdered seems to have rendered Josh pretty much immune to physical trauma.
I am glad I waited for the end roll.
You could have also mentioned "The Walking Dead" as an example of this effect, they use it alot.
Very true.
That beginning scene was so funny lol
the hug was the best part
Fun fact: you edited in the blade with the sharp side pointing down, however, he holds the prop with the sharp side pointing up.
They do stuff like this so often in the Special Effects industry I'm starting to think it's a meme at this point. It goes by so fast in the actual clip you don't even notice it, even when you're looking or it.
Yeah I also noticed that, great eyes bro!💯👀
Yes they did mess that up. Was there a reason as to why Michael was holding the knife sharp side up? Was it to better hide the blood tube?
I enjoyed this much more than the actual Halloween Kills movie itself. Sad but true.
Now i know how its made😊👍🏻
I was hoping y'all would take a stab at some good gore effects this Bloodtober.
Look like the fun thing, and the result is awesome, thank you for the tips
I'm overwhelmed lol
Who else is hype for the new movie
thank you so much!
Bloodtober
it would be awsome if you guys made a vfx tutorial from venom 2, like shriek's screaming effect
Tank who!
Well this helps cuz I’m shooting a Michael Myers short this month lol
Ahhhhhh, I like screaming
That definitely touched a lung.
That would be great for my action movie
Very nice.
Thank you so much sir ❤
Thank you
very excellent video
Cool great job!!!!!
Thanks - great video. Did you cut a hole in his t-shirt after the stabbing? :-)
Love it
You can make more videos like this it's good
TUTORIAL REQUEST: Could you make a video about tracking markers and how to properly place and use them on a green screen set
Does this work on for stabs on non Halloween holidays?
Worth to point out than when you extract the knife you switch to a different angle (slightly from behind) so you don't need any effect. You already "sold" the stabbing so no need to do it again. Which of very pragmatic.
Thankyou gurujii
This video is great! Thank so much for this. But what app did you use to animate all of it? Thank you!
Amazing...
So when you showed the John Wick clip, I laughed at how visually terrible it was lol. Your footage was far much better! Bravo!
Is it true that Dean Cundey invented and used the first steady cam ever in the 1978 Halloween?
No, Dean Cundey didn't invent the steadicam, but he was one of the earliest adopters of it. The specific version they used in Halloween - if I remember correctly - was the Panaglide
Next effect = freeze stone gost effect (people become grunge textured rock)
(maybe it'll require 3d Stuff)
Can you guys do a tutorial on bone-craking!! Great video!
1:09 - Halloween Kills spoiler without context
Be kind rewind, I saw that👀👀
When the camera is in motion it’s such a different and difficult edit to pull up
Ryan do you know how to let social media platforms know that the music bed is royalty free.
It bothers me so much that you guys didn't flip the knife edge the correct direction :P
Killer effect tho.
Love practical effects or a combo with digital where practical can't be achieved. Thanks
I was terrified about using squibs method with that tire pump, but the syringe, fuck why didn't I think of it? Thank you!
Please sometime demonstrate practical shooting effects, bullet wounds with smoke and spurting blood. Because digitally, I hate camera tracking a person to animate blood or use blood brushes and preset videos.
Any reason you didn't use Mocha to track the back of the hand?
just walked out of the theater. first 25 min were magical then 💩
Please please please Hulk effect 🥺
How would you edit this if you were using the footage with the prop knife
Josh has been murdered so many times by so many things over the years that at this point he doesn't even care
How is Josh still alive after all the trauma he has suffered?
And flesh wounds…
He's not.... completely CG.... always has been. Ssshhhhhh!
@@casadelosperrosstudio200 Okay that explains everything.
Dee doo doo dee doo doo dee doo. 🎶🎃🔪
*gets stabbed in the heart*
"Enjoy your lunch Mike."
cool
I’m first
Yes you are
Hi, I had question.. my sounds designer sent me 5.1 mix file and I have to put this mix file in video timeline and export as 5.1 mix so which setting should be there required.. can you help me with this..
Hilarious,hugn and kissing Jason 😅😅
Fun fact: the Michael Myers mask is actually a cast of William Shatner's face. At least it came as news to me.
