You don't need to undo the hinges on the glove compartment or remove the door from the frame at all. Just open it and undo the 3 screws along the top and the one on each side behind the straps. Then the whole glove compartment slides out rearwards, compartment door and frame all in one piece!
Thanks! I preemptively bought the resistor before booking the car for a service, the mechanic did it 👍
In NZ we drive on the left, right-hand drive! Not under the glove compartment but on the driver's side! 😬🤣 Poor mechanic! I didn't click when I watched your video and told him where I thought it was. All good and fixed though.
Removing the heating duct would have been useful. No idea why you wouldn't think that significant. It's an important part of the job. Try doing the job with it in place and you'll see what I mean. Removing the motor from the flap module too.
just did this (worked excellent) thanks for the video! note: you don't have to take off the rod. just push it away and works fine (i had troubles removing it so... ;) )
Very important!!! for e46 UK you find it under the steering wheel.
Will it be the same on a bmw 316 ti compact drive side thanks
thanks nathan you were right again. blower motor would not shut off the FSR was the problem.Your biggest fan Troy las vegas.
Great video much appreciated however.....I'm 6'4" with a 54 inch chest and this was a pain. It had been done in the past because there was only 1 screw holding it in. I recommend ya'll get a 9-12 yr old to help, they'll fit better.
Just did mine thanks to your video !!! Mahalo brother!
Fyi, the air duct is tricky. You must push it up and pull out. And also the servo motor rod is tough to pull apart, I was afraid I was going to bust the plastic bits. Also I didnt conpletely remove the glove box. This is not an easy job. Nathan I think you had a dwarf doing your dirty work! Lots of editing lol
Hey Dude totally appreciate the video, got this done my self very informative, thanks a bunch big up
2004 e60 is a diffrent configuration can't get from side. must get from middle. behind radio. big job.
This was one of my very first diy's on my e46 and it went incredibly smooth and was super easy thanks to your video!! Thank you SO much!!! ❤️
I think you need to show how to remove the air duct because that is the most difficult part of the job which you must I think take particular attention
Hey Nathan! I have am having the same issue on my 2001 e39 530i. I bought a new FSU and replaced it. It fixed the problem temporarily. Sometimes it will work for a few minutes. Other times it will work for a whole day. All my fuses appear to be good. I can figure out why the blower motor and CCU functional properly before failing.
I'll look into that....
No, not easy! But thanks good job demonstrating it.
it's suppose to be a 40amp fuse
It's not difficult to do, maybe uncomfortable position to work. If you replace it for a cheap ebay one, prepare yourself to replace it again soon. Buy a Hella or Valeo (original is Valeo)
I would be delighted if you can show how to remove
Is there a way to test the relay if you don't have a spare one? thanks and sorry if this was already asked.
Did you figure out a way to test the relay ? I’m dealing with the same problem
Thanks for making the video, but how do you know if it's the resistor (final stage unit is another word for resistor) or the capacitor? In my case (1997 328i) the blower motor no longer works, was working but had to keep it on at least on the lowest setting because if you turned it off it may not come on again. People with the capacitor issue usually had problems reading the climate control module. I guess I'll check the fuse first (pretty sure it's not) and then I'll change out to resistor since it's a lot easier to replace then to take the control module out to replace the capacitor which requires soldering out the old one out and the new one back in.
Hi Nathan long time fan Chuck. I have a 2001 e46 325i with no heat when its below 40 deg F. above that 50deg and above heat works fine. thermostat was changed, control was changed, and system and core flushed. but like I said 40deg and below no heat plenty of fan just no heat. I think its the heater core sensor behind the radio/hvac controls. your opinion is greatly appreciated. Its Oct, and getting colder. Please reply asap. Thank you. Chuck
Charlie Horse hello it is more Than likely the heater valve on the driver side strut tower
My problem is a little different: I put the heat on, and it blows cold air, as in refrigerated (I cant tell now its too cold). Even with the 3 dots on red. I changed tstat, wp, and flushed the radiator and bled the system. Same thing. My next culprits are the blower motor or the water valve. Whats the best way to diagnose? I dont have a donor car for testing, so I must buy the right parts. Any advice is appreciated.
Ace Corabao did you ever figure out it?
How do u get the duct work out the way
Exactly! Must have just fallen out by itself. I hate it when they skip steps!
Will this part cause the entire unit to go out? No lights and unresponsive buttons? Fuses look good.
Did u solve this problem because my e53 ac control unit not working and the bloow moter is on even when ignition off
Great video i did some research and went to AutoZone and they told me same thing but ive seen videos other they take blower moter out so im going to take resister out and put new one in thanks.
Hey Nathan, how do you get the duct removed from in front of the resistor? Great video but stuck here.
Just out of curiosity, did you ever figure out how to remove the duct?
Rebekah Taylor pull it out
Ingolfur Valur like just pull it out? no screws or hitches. if I straight pull out the duct nothing will break?
Rebekah Taylor no idea i just pulled it out with anger 15 minutes ago
Rebekah Taylor and i didnt break anything
I put in the replacement resistor and the air blew out once and then not again. Any idea what this may be?
Any ideas why is my e46 takes to long to blown hot air and sometimes is hot only when car is speeding and no when is sitting at a light?
Low coolant.
So where is the module for the powerfold mirrors hiding please.
Is the procedure and resistor position the same in a 2001 Z3 3.0i? My fan suddenly quit and now only works on the highest speed.
thanks for the video
What kinda of fuse is t and where is it located?
Hey Nathan, love the videos man. Quick question. Do you have any thorough write ups on DSP amps? I have a 01 740il and my DSP amp is dea. I am caught in between buying a used ebay one or replacing it with an after market one. However every right up I see, seems to be incomplete or not indepth enough. Any advice/help? Thanks
+Dj Cam i had sold the couple that i had here, they bring around $75 on ebay, i dont know if they are fixable or not, also thanks for watching the videos.
I have a 2001 330i. Will the resistor be in the same spot, or another place depending on the year?
Yes it is
Will this eventually prevent the car from starting?
How do I stop my blower from staying on 24/7 until I get it fixed cause it's draining my battery
The relay
Yes i have the same problem
@Guy So Iccy same here
