I was truly amazed to discover that not only is Katrina Marzella a Salvationist, but all the soloists in the prestigious Black Dyke Brass Band are as well. This revelation fills me with awe and admiration. Having grown up in the Salvation Army and played brass instruments from the age of seven, I understand how this incredible organization fosters such remarkable talent. The Salvation Army’s music program has produced exceptional individuals who have reached the pinnacle of their field. Their commitment to mentoring and molding young musicians is genuinely inspirational, showing the profound impact they have on nurturing the next generation of artists.
Stumbling across gems like this makes putting up with all the junk on UA-cam worthwhile. It's highly unlikely I would have done an active search and found this as I had previously not heard of Ms. Marzella until the algorithm led to her duet "More Than Words" (tune by Extreme) which then led to this. Her sound is absolutely ethereal.
Absolutely amazing the sound is so beautiful and, miss you so and do hope to see and hear you soon. You are so gifted and a beautiful person. Thank you
I know that you said "almost", but I think her sound is distinctly baritone rather than euphonium. To me, it is brighter and I prefer it for this piece.
You are right. After listening to her a second time, I concede to Baritone. But, she does demonstrate tonal control, to the point that she could make the transition to Euphonium rather easily, if she were of a mind to do so.
As you say, she has enviable musicianship and, no doubt, could transfer to euphonium any time she chose. Many who are half as accomplished, would make the move, because of the soloing opportunities. That is borne out by a quick search for baritone and euphonium solos on UA-cam. In her case, I imagine she will have all of the solos she wants, and that she is happy to show what can be done on baritone. Among us lesser players, of course, it is so underrated and overlooked that it is the butt of many a joke. That certain parts are regarded like that does not show brass banding in a good light.
@@turnitback A euphonium plays to bass but a baritone is to tenor or maybe even alto but I would love to hear Katrina on a euphonium though! She seems to have the strong breathing muscles need to play through the extra three feet of tubing! a baritone is basically just a piccolo euphonium! she does have gorgeous sound and looks too!

Lovely performance. Always love her sound. (Someone might want to talk to the young cornet player behind her about neutral facial expressions while on stage.)
Pretty sure I played one of those back in the early 90s...wanted to play strings but they were like sorry ure poor we have a really ugly baritone...I got good they gave me a.good one that I competed with then unfortunately my parents put me in Christian school....had to give it all back and loose my best friend ever....my baritone

Beautiful. Nothing more to add, just beautiful.
Beautiful deep tone, vibrato, and aching last note
Absolutely beautiful - especially that last note!
Katrina demonstrates perfection in playing. She almost makes her Baritone sound like a Euphonium!

Let's not insult the baritonists, shall we? I actually like the brighter sound of the bari, but that is what I own and play.
