Can't take what a wonderful young man he is .. if everyone was like him , this would be a perfect world, it's so incredibly heartwarming to come across ppl like this, and he helped his little sister build a Valentines day box ... and I too have a fascination for the Lizzy Borden case, never apologize for putting family first.. so appreciative you are sharing your life and adventure with us. Thank you
I’ve been obsessed with Lizzy Borden, too! I saw the box and it crossed my mind that it looked like the house, but it was just a fleeting thought and I thought I was imagining it. I was amazed when he said it was her home! And I agree that Kaleb is definitely on the side of the angels!
If your sister saw the 2013 film "Lizzie Borden took an Axe", I am the photographer behind Lizzie and Emma Borden (Christina Ricci and Clea Duvall) as they leave the Courthouse after the trial. I am a photographer with a collection and knowledge of antique cameras, so I was brought on as an "expert" and got to play the part of a Victorian photographer.
@Stephen Ernst, We have a celebrity in our midst! That's pretty darn cool on the scale of coolness. Christina Ricci has always been one of my favorite actresses, ever since she played Wednesday. And like many others, I have always been a bit fascinated with the Lizzie Borden story. Anyway, thanks for sharing your story.
Kaleb, you totally got my father in law good!! He watches you on his TV so he never sees the comments but I know he never misses an episode. Sure enough, he just texted me super surprised to hear you give him a shout out! He said "He's still in shock" and "He loved it." You seriously made his week with that one. Sometimes the little things are the biggest things. That's what you did here and that's what you're doing on this channel! Cheers my friend! Some day we'll come out and visit. --Evan
@@The2ndEmpireStrikesBack If it helps, I've not heard him genuinely in shock about something and he was definitely in shock! This is a guy who has some decent claims to fame himself funny enough. Maybe not in entertainment but he's certainly played an important part in his own way in terms of making a few cities better places.
That bed is perfect for you to do more sleepovers! The fact that it found you - at that sweet price! - makes me think Mr. Brown is pulling some strings to get you moved in sooner! It’s beautiful.
Love the bed! I had my own lucky find about 30 years ago, I live in a late Victorian house, and was lucky enough to inherit a wardrobe, dressing table and chest of drawers which were Victorian mahogany. Obviously I needed a bed to match but for years I couldn't find one then one day I was looking at a little second hand shop and it was there, the perfect bed ! I asked the price and nearly bit his hand off when he said £10.
the hall tree is stunning, I know you're hung up on the east lake but i don't think anyone ever had just one style of furnishings. As long as it looks good, doesn't clash and functions you shouldn't worry so much. Makes for more interest as well!!
I hope you end up keeping the hall tree in that spot. It looks perfect! The bed is incredible. What a great find. Looks like the bathroom is coming along nicely. It's going to be so exciting when you can finally move in:)
For a moment I thought the smaller window in the bathroom was brand new because the wood looked so bright and new. I would never imagine that it was under that ugly paint. I'm happy that despite taking so much time you managed to clean them. And the sconces for the bathroom are so lovely.
you don't need to do anything with this gem, just a French polish should do the trick. what it does is flatten out the cracks in the shellac and cleans at the same time. It will bring out the beauty of the wood. Nice find.
Beds didn't need the sizes that we use today since most people were shorter, and they tended to sleep with lots of pillows (almost sitting up). It does look great.
It was nice to see you showcasing your other talents with your Sister. My big Brother would not have been as generous with his time. 😁 Great scores on the Furniture! Those prices are amazing! I would like you to give yourself a Pat on the back for all of the Plastering you have done that turned out well. If it was easy, there would be a plethora of people still doing it. 💖
I believe the paint used for faux grain painting was done with milk paint base that soaks into the grain. Nearly impossible to remove and is always over a lower quality wood. Faux painting done well is an art and I believe should be saved or reproduced and valued for what it was. It was a part of the history of the house.
Yup, milk paint (also known as buttermilk paint) is a big pain. The original owners of my 1934 house decided it would be a great idea to paint the inside of three of the kitchen cabinets in a very dark blue buttermilk paint. Basically I have three cabinet interiors that are now permanently stained blue. The trials and tribulations of home restoration!
OMG!!! I LOVE the hall tree and bed!!!! I've always wanted a hall tree, but have no room. Unless you come across something really spectacular, I think it's great right there!!! And, that bed!!! And, the prices!!! You are living my dream!!!! Thank you both, so much, for sharing. It's the only way a lot of us will ever be able to experience this. ❤❤❤
Love the hall tree! You mentioned a pier mirror, but I usually see those in dining rooms or ballrooms (between the windows to make the room look larger). For the space, the hall tree does provide more function. Just my 2 cents. We have no coat closet anywhere near our front door, so I repurposed an Art Deco wardrobe I'd used as a second closet in our previous house. The curved top mirrors (sorry) the arch of the barrel ceiling above. Glad you decided to put both sconces above the sink in the powder room rather than one on each side. There will be ambient light in the room because of the windows. We used my grandmother's solid maple double bed when we were first married; it fit just right in the bedroom of the 1927 bungalow we rented for the first 2 years. You are making great progress, and doing it right...taking time to live. Cheers!
Hey Kaleb! Love your new bed!! The bed is Eastlake 1880s and is Burl Walnut and is American. The Hall Tree is English 1890s. It looks great in your Niche. Love your show!
@@The2ndEmpireStrikesBack That's an interesting idea. My grandparents told me they used stencils back in the day. Looking forward to seeing it! Good luck!
So sweet of you to spend time with her. So neat you will repurpose the house for her. Nine years old is a cool age and they are exploring different interests. Loved this week’s episode!
Gorgeous bed! and hall tree! I'm thinking that the "crystals" that hung off the light were technically prisms, (cut glass), a true crystal would be too heavy and labor intensive to cut all of them for decoration. Prisms were cut to refract light and throw rainbows, really pretty! Good job on the bathroom windows too!
So glad I found your channel. I'm renovating a house myself, built in 1975 so nowhere near as old or nice as your house. But I get tons of inspiration and motivation from watching what you do.
So I’ve been watching you for about a year now and I feel your pain man lol. I bought a cabin that was old Mobil army barracks that the U.S. sold back in the 50’s and was pleased on my property in the 70’s. All the floorboards were rotten and the rim joist was gone. After that was replaced and the wiring it’s starting to look like a home
Hi Caleb - you're doing great work - the bathroom looks great - don't worry about the cracked plaster - just run a skim coat over it! A suggestion - now would be the time time to put a smaller fixture box in the wall and replace the blue one - this way you never have to worry about the plaster coming off the box. The same kind of thing happened with me and I am glad that I changed it out at the initial stage. Rob
You sent me to John’s site and I am floored. You two are a certain kind of special. Dedicated, artistic, high energy kind of guys. Amazing, the amount of work you took on. Fascinating.even though you are doing different kind of redo it is amazing to watch.
The bed is antique!! I can't believe most of the chateau here did throw them in the bins! Many new owners are turning the chateaux and hotels(houses) into airbnb so the deco is more contemporary and modern yet I still prefere to sleep in ur majestic bed. 👍 happy valentine and big hug to ur little sister(I like crime stories too🤭)
Pretty Bed and Hall Tree, I think the Hall Tree looks like it was made for that spot. I've watched all your videos, you're doing an awesome job! Your little sister is very blessed to have a brother that makes time for her; you'll have these fond memories to share and look back on; family first, always!
I'm so glad you have a proper place to sleep now! The bed is very similar to mine which came with matching dressing table and marble top wash stand. If it has wooden slats under the box spring, would advise that you attach them to the frame. These shift and fall out and yes, the mattress caved in one night while I was in bed!
My Grandma, born in 1889, told me husbands and wives had their own bedroom as a form of birth control. She was serious she said however, she also told me back when married couples had twin beds the man wore his hat to bed. After getting into bed the husband would throw his hat to his wife who would either throw it back or take it back. Possibly that's a "Grandma joke." LOL.
I love the hall tree! I would keep it where it is and just make a new drawer. The shelves would be great for storing shoes, you could just lay a plastic protective sheet on each shelf to protect the wood. I love the bed! People were much smaller and slimmer back in the day, so their beds weren’t as wide as today.
Caleb, your little sister is adorable! So glad you took time to spend the day crafting with her. Those are memories she will have for a lifetime. You are a good big brother! Sorry your plaster cracked. I know that stuff is a booger to work with. Hang in there, though. As you said, every mistake is a learning process. By the time you finish your house, you will be able to teach others how to do it.
I love how you have a tradition of making boxes with your sister on Valentine's Day. I'm sure she appreciates your time as well. I like how you are furnishing your home. Nice bed and hall tree. Both are beautiful. I think the veneer on the bed might be bird's eye maple.
Kudos to you, you've done an excellent job working on your projects. Everything looks really nice. 🎩 off to you for taking out the time to make your sister a valentine box, I'm sure she appreciated it.
Kaleb, you guys got a bed! It's so exciting to see things coming along and we all can't wait until you two can officially move in. But work slow, I need a few more years of these videos!
What gorgeous furniture you have acquired for your home. When I saw the bed thumbnail, I immediately thought... Kaleb's gonna get some amazing sleep😴 now versus where he slept before. I did like the glass on the sconces & with the crystals added, they would add elegance to the sconces, the wallpaper, & the bathroom itself. Loved the awesome video as always. Have a safe & wonderful week. 👋Kim
I like the way your little sister thinks! Any time is the right time for a sepia tinted historic crime. Love seeing the progress on the house, and all your beautiful antique finds. You and Kim are making great progress, can't wait to see the finished powder room.
You are an impressive human being! To take time out of your busy says to make that box is fantastic! It looks spectacular. Love your finds! The hallway stand is wonderful, I would leave it there, great place just for umbrellas! Love the bed, love the sconces! Anxiously waiting for that bathroom to be done!
That gorgeous bed reminds me of mine. I was beyond thrilled to find it but had some work to do to get it usable. My doubled bed mattress fits fine because it rests just above the rails but the boxspring didn't so I took it apart, cut it down then put back together. Sounds easy but actually was a hell of a project. Worth it though because it really makes the bedroom and I feel like a queen every night sleeping in that thing. The craftsmen of the day took pride in their work to produce such works of art.
L love what you are doing. I wish I could do this too. The victorian time is a beautiful time in history. They made something for everything. Good luck in what you are doing
Kaleb so nice to see you spend time with your little sister. It seems she also has craft talent by the way she organised those pom-poms..Great job! The house was amazing and what a brilliant idea to turn it into a night light. Plastering is such a difficult skill but it looks like your winning for the most part..Your always so positive and definitely up for learning and a challenge.. Also that bed was an amazing find, you will now be more comfortable for your sleep overs..
'Sister' is a pea in my pod. I love anything, Lizzie Borden. I've seen a few movies on her plus the series they had out, any article I read up on her, and spirit/ghost hunting tours of the house here on UA-cam. There's something so fascinating about Lizzie. $150 for that gorgeous antique bed??? Okay, then, I need to shop where you do, it's a stunning piece, good taste. Oh and by the way, I now have my son watching your vids, started this past weekend.
Boy that is a couple wonderful decor finds...How exciting for you...Your little sister is a cutie patootie... what a good Big Brother you are... How lucky you are to have a sister that's still a youngin... Oh yes and another thing why don't you just let that beard grow all the way out... Thank you so much for sharing your adventure... Mr. Brown is so proud of you...He love's what your doing...I don't have the best of Health... But I sure do hope I get to see the finished results... GOD BLESS you and Yours...✌💖
Kaleb, you and Kim are doing such a great job with the house!!!!! Both the hall tree and full-sized bed frame is GORGEOUS!!! They are keepers!!! Too bad about the blasted plaster in the water closet (used that vernacular because it's NOT a bathroom). Keep up the GREAT work and the AWESOME enthusiasm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The mattress looked pristine, probably better condition than most hotels.😉 A good vacuum never hurt and for the truly squeamish, an upholstery/ carpet cleaner can take care of it.
So glad you took a few wacks at the Lizzie Borden house project. It looks great. Your model building skills are A1. Hope you all had a lovely Valentine’s Day together.
I can't believe how lucky you are to find a piece like that In such good condition. I just seen wall sconces just like that at an antique store here in town they had the most beautiful crystal to them.
Haha, the Lizzie Borden house of all places for a Valentine's day project is awesome. Great job Piper and to you as well Kaleb. Always giving us that good wholesome content.
As if I didn’t think you were awesome already… YOU are such a wonderful brother!! ♥️. She’s adorable and blessed to have you as her brother and friend!! 👍
Caleb, I think you’ve been waiting for the first night alone in your home for quite awhile.. You were almost like a young man sleeping outside for the first time! Your heart was so full of joy and excitement!! ♥️. The snow and videos you made were awesome! YOU deserved that time alone in your home ♥️
Caleb, I’m really sorry about the plaster - what a bummer! It may be drying faster due to low humidity during the winter - could you run a humidifier in the room while you’re working? The bed and mattress are a wonderful find!
I have replied way back when Caleb first started plastering , and having problems with it kicking too soon, was to use Cream of Tartar as a retarder. I don't think he ever investigated using it.
Impressive jobs done, Kaleb 👌🏾 Every small chore is a steady step on a big journey. Bravo, my friend 👏 Sending you supportive greetings from The Netherlands 🇳🇱
Plaster tip... It has been many years since I was on the crew that did plaster. After applying the white coat or veneer coat, we would wait a few minutes and then wet the wall and trowel it again. This wetting and troweling would happen several times. It took care of the drying cracks and made a smoother finish. Great job you are doing.

So sweet to help your sister! And a real bed! Hope the ice/sleet/snow did not slow you down.
Hall tree looks so good and appropriate in that space. Perfect scale.
The bed and the hall tree are both beautiful! I liked how your sister’s Valentine box turned out, you’re very talented, Kaleb!
Yay, sponsors!
Watching quietly from the USA 😊
Loved the Lizzie Borden box with your cute sister! Also loved the hall tree and bed. Two gorgeous pieces!
The house is looking so nice! I always look forward to your updates. Keep up the good work.
The Halltree is perfect there; the Bed is amazing... please get a new mattress 🙏❤️😃
I, too, think it's best for them to get a new mattress. Absolutely.
Uhh yea!
Oh, the mattress is fine. If he gets a rash or starts scratching during the night -- yes. Otherwise, it's fine.
Awwwww she’s gorgeous
This house project will get you to a million subscribers. I'm a new one. I cannot WAIT to see the finished project. Do not give up👍🏽
That hall tree is gorgeous
Me: drooling over a hall tree. Kaleb: it's OK for now.
You are doing a great job with your lovely home and with your little sister.
Haha, the Lizzie Borden house of all places for a Valentine's day project is awesome. Great job Piper and to you as well Kaleb. Always giving us that good wholesome content.
To me it looked like the house on the dvd "Up" with the balloons carrying it away.
I thought that was the Lizzie Bordon House. Nicely done ! You are a Good Brother. The hall Tree looks perfect in that spot.
Love the bed!..beautiful!..keep the updates coming!
Thank you Kaleb for putting both lights on the mirror wall.👍🥰 This room is going to be spectacular to behold as soon as you open the door. Love it.
I'm so proud of both of u, honestly! U know that's probably how they learned also ! Trial and tribulations!!!!!!!!!!! Enjoy both your videos
Hello Caleb.. I love your Bed! The piece in the hallway alcove looks great. It's an awesome fit. I hope you leave it there.
I'm so glad it's all coming together.. progress.. and then perfection!
Enjoy every episode. You're doing great.
I had to pause and say that I LOVE that bed frame! I've been looking for something similar on marketplace. It's lovely
Oh my goodness that is a BEAUTIFUL bed frame! I hope you do widen it to fit a modern day mattress for you and Kim! Lots of love to you both! ❤️
Aww, that was so nice..What a nice brother you are...❤❤❤
SkillShare!!!! Sponsorship!!!!
Good on you! Sisters should come before viewers. We’re all prepared to wait.
Thank you for sharing! So sweet! Happy St. Valentine's Day to both of you, Kim and Caleb, and of course your sister!
Impressive jobs done, Kaleb 👌🏾
Every small chore is a steady step on a big journey. Bravo, my friend 👏
Sending you supportive greetings from The Netherlands 🇳🇱
I would DIE for that bed!!!! OMG what a find!
You are wonderful yourself. Have a great week.
