I have a granddaughter named Ava. Just turned 18. It pains me greatly to hear about your loss. I can only imagine the pain you feel. If it helps at all, today's young women are different from especially their grandmothers, and are the leading edge of a movement your daughter was a part of; the ushering in of the Age of Eve.

My brother had this record. I always wanted to hear “cat”. Years later, He bought a tape cassette for our road trip on the east coast, solidifying that Cat Stevens was our music. He died 11 years ago today at the young age of 53. I realized 1/2 way through the day that he was 11 years older than me. I am the same age he was when he died so young. Thank you Cat for the music. ❤
My awesome 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Ashley, introduced me to Cat Stevens. She would always play music while we worked, and Cat Stevens was on frequently. I loved all of my elementary teachers: I have special memories of each of them.

Its a reminder of the bigger picture. Everyone has a lifetime and maybe multiples to wake up to their spiritual self. We all have the opportunity to "carry the words of love." The eternal self is who you really are, and the lifetimes are dreams of a separated self that you think you are. Every lifetime has impact large or small upon the course of humanity. We are all the very young ones. When you wake up, you realize that you are that eternal self and so is everyone else. You naturally change your mind and carry those words of love, and want that better world for everyone. You realize that love can change it all.

My amazing son lost his battle with depression in January, not sure if I will ever stop hurting, but this song gives me hope that he is at peace in heaven, he was a loving and caring young man who could have changed the world. I think he was too good for this world and I am sure your brother was also. God bless.

The great Cat Stevens, how many beautiful songs, great messages in the lyrics, his unique voice made him one of the great of all times. Sad we'd him away for many years but his religious conviction made him even more admirable. Great to have him back.

Self explanatory, but beautiful to remember, me, at 14, wondering what life would be like in 5, 10, 50 years down the road. I think what I found so surprising is how much for granted I took my mother. She drove me insane, for no other reason than she existed. When I realized that her time was short, just a couple of years later, I was petrified. What is it with teen girls? As the last 48 years have flown by, I've only missed her more. One of our daughters asked me, not too long ago, if I was afraid of death. She is an RN with hospice in our area. I said, "no!", that I looked forward to it, because I miss my mother. She has no way of understanding, till I'm gone, and even then, not really. How to explain to someone, missing something they've always had? Her children are almost all grown, while I lost mine 13 days after turning 20, 5 years before she was born. It's like trying to explain the pain of a hand, when the arm is gone.

Cat Stevens was always trying to find meaning and purpose in life. On “Oh Very Young” (1974), he imparts sensible wisdom : “You’re only dancin’ on this earth for a short while.”
Stevens was only 25 years old when the song was released, but he had been in the public eye since he was 18, when he started putting out music.
Running a mere 2:36, “Oh Very Young” was the only hit from his eighth album “Buddha and The Chocolate Box” (1974). By this time, he was well established in America and issuing a new LP every year. Stevens was one of the few British singer-songwriters who never joined a band.
It has been implied that this composition contained a veiled reference to the passing of Buddy Holly : “Denim blue, faded up to the sky.” But did Buddy Holly ever wear denim while performing❔ Quite disputable❕💚🎼💙

I always heard one line from this song differently, and incorrectly. My version of that line: "will you carry the words, 'I. Will. Love.' will you?" I suppose my mind translated the words into that version of the lyric, because holding fast the resolution to continue to love in the face of loss and pain is difficult, demanding and brave. But I love this song, because it's both a life lesson and a sweet memory of my teen years.
IMO this song is talking about mortality and the fact people old and young don't want to die, but it happens anyway to everyone. And only some people go to heaven. The patches on the faded jeans are symbolic of trying to live or stay healthy through illness and keep living. And when someone dies after struggling to stay alive, it makes their death harder.
His spirit is here talking to him - but it won't be here forever - he can feel parts leaving - the earthly existence /experiences are fading it away - will love survive?
I don't read death in this song. I see it as a welcome from a father to his newborn stating that life is brief but they both have the chance to make a better world, he by staying around (patching his blue jeans to make them longer lasting) and the child by living up to the ideal (the great white bird).

Before she heads out back to her regular life, she packs some of his jeans as a memento ... We were visited 15 years ago by a real white dove, used that picture for the great white bird lyric ... and faded to white
