Nice find mate our
Dad had a 1970 mk 1 estate for many years
Just clean her up and use It . 👍👍🇬🇧
Thank you, very nice 😀. Thats the plan! 👍
Beautiful car. That paint is very easy to touch up. Since its single stage paint. I love the dark blue stripe. Get to town with cleaning. New tires, new brakepads new fluids... New cushions in the seats. I bet you can get new cloth for a really good deal too.
You can even fit it with a rs2000 engine. A sierra engine or something like that.
Thats the plan mate we have made a start on it but mainly just removing parts and getting welding done so far. The owner wants to keep it how he had it years ago.
@@BatysGarage These cars were allways such good looking rides. Those engines are nice. They run forever. I hope one day you will be able to buy it.
Oh the good old days of simple motoring
Much easier than todays rubbish
No laptop or degree needed 😂
Thank god 😅
simple is the way such a pleasure to work on
Will be good to see it back on the road i can remember the 1st time lol
Thank you , keep a eye on the channel where i will be uploading us getting it back on the road. Always good isnt it
And it's now worth more now then it was brand new as any thing ford sells for silly money now but that still looks good for sitting in a barn for 35 years get the bits done and get it back on the road and enjoy driving it 👍
Fords have gone crazy over the years. Hopefully we will get it done soon for him to enjoy!
you didn't see many escort Mk2 estates back in the day let alone now
thats gonna be a beauty , 2 litre it up five speed it , inject it do the brakes and springs stick in a blaw and give it some ACDC
Hopefully it comes out well. i said the same about a 2.0 but he wants to keep it as it as a through back
@@BatysGarage thats fine for me there are three types of restoration , like factory , resto mod and balls out RS the fecker , his choice 😁
@@firsteerr yes im with you on them 😉
Good find sounds really nice 👌
Thank you , keep a eye on the channel where i will be uploading us getting it back on the road
Had one of these back in 1980 T reg. Great car, loads of room, not very fast but would go all day at motorway speeds. Don’t know why Ford didn’t make a 4 door version
yes very spacious car, i dont know would of made sense too
An Old Ford will always get going!
unless it was a cold damp morning lol had alot of 70s fords
@@mrc-by4vp 🤣
Did a 5 year apprenticeship with a Ford Main Dealer 1970 to 75, worked on all the Fords and other makes of the time love all classic cars better than all the modern rubbish really enjoyed video
Did you enjoy it there, i think would of, cars where so much more simple back then. Thank you glad you enjoyed it
@@BatysGarage Yes loved every minute of it, I'm now retired but still love working on cars especially classics 60s to 90s
@@aswclassicsiow8588 very nice! The best cars where made during that time imo
I broke up one of these to make a kit car from the engine, gearbox and axle. Sacrilege now of course, but it was a 1300 blue estate just like this one !.
Its one of them back in the day there was loads about so no one thought about it like that.
I watched Taylor on the Autoalex V2 channel rescue old Allegro, and the car detailler used 'iron fallout remover' spray on the surface rust, which got rid of the brown and steaks, but maintained the patina. I'd never heard of it before, but it did a great job.
I watch them too! I also watched them do it on the allegro , I have it a try on another car and it does work well with a bit of agitation. Once I’m at that stage I will do it on the escort.
-As for the Category B outside, British weather PLUS being in coastal air!
Surprising to see a Mk2 on an X plate. V was uncommon, W very scarce indeed.
its not done to bad!
@@BatysGarage My first car was a Mk2 estate, on an 'S' plate, that too was a 1.3. It was always a bit of a shame that rust was built into the design yet the Kent engine was very durable, especially in standard tune. At the Riley rally in Coventry some years ago i saw a quite well made Riley special that had been built up from a fire damaged saloon. All the alloy parts of the Riley 9 engine had melted so the guy had re-engined it with a Kent engine and gearbox, with bespoke engine mounts. Made a decent job of it, and it must have been a bloodysight easier changing gear with one of the nicest 'boxes ever to be made.
I hope you car isn't too bad underneath.
@@thephilpott2194 Yes for sure most cars of that era didnt last long in the elements. But the engines where very made. Love the story's.
Keep watching the videos if you haven't subscribed already make sure you do as we have loads of videos coming up
Wow really nice find SUPER RARE would love to own that
Thank you
It’s a RWD Escort - of course it’ll start.
Yes old school fords never die
Great watching
Glad you like it
Remember my friends auntie having a y reg mk 2 escort estate in the 90s . It was two-tone silver , and blue . I could never understand how it was on a y reg when the mk 3 came out on the w reg .
Sounds like a good colour combo, cant beat old skoool, im not clued up with years im afraid
The MK 2 was still made until 1980, and dealers still had them for sale until they were all sold,
@@aswclassicsiow8588 good bit of information there! Thank you
The body alone makes this a RARE as "hens teeth" beasty. The Estate wasn't as popular as the 4 door sedan or the 2 door coupe in Australia at least, I don't remember seeing many of them back in the day. I owned 2 x 2 doors and 3 vans back in the 80's and early 90's, all of mine had the 1600 crossflow motor, the 2 litre donk was the dream engine in one of these, tuned up and running 2 inch exhaust you owned a potent little sleeper....best of all, the ENTIRE toolkit required to change a clutch at the side of the road was 2 screwdrivers, a 1/2 inch spanner and a few odds and sods. I know, I did at least 10 clutches in my day, got it down from an 8 hour job the first go, to 48 minutes the last time. Simple car, simple to work on. WORST FUSEBOX EVER DESIGNED, with crappy fuses to go with it, and the rust in that scuttle vent and heater box will most likely mean a new firewall or part thereof will be needed...but she looks sound apart from 34 years of detritis and neglect. A nice set of Simmons B45's with 70/30 and 80/20 offset respectively, wrapped in BFG T/A's and your good to get out and start laying down some 11's......
HOLY SHIT !!!! I'm 19 again........!!!!!
So I’m finding out that it’s a very rare car , this is also now a 1600. Got to admit you can’t beat a good old 2.0. Sounds like you had many days of fun working on these old gems. It’s not to bad but more I dig I find more that needs doing
Haha 19 again ☺️
@@BatysGarage I wish I still had my last van, it was somewhat special....I let the 1600 move to a farm in the country, and replaced it with the V6 and front to back drivetrain from an RS2600 Capri, with the aid of a Sprintex supercharger bolted to it, it was somewhat of a handful with a 3.07 final in the diff, I did get it up to 288kph at one point.....that was scary in a 1979 model van. Silly things we did as young men....good way to spend $15,000 in 1989 though....
I'm betting, being British built, it will be MOSTLY assembled with 1/2" bolts, I could pull most of mine to pieces with a 1/2 inch, 12mm and 13mm socket, two screwdrivers and a hammer.
@@bitemykrank1970 I bet that was a handful back in the day 😂 I got a cortina with a 2.8 v6 in it I think that drives loads better with the weight torque now
Great find guys, the Rwd escorts are the best, not sure if your gonna keep it as you found it mechanically personally i would of made sure the top end was lubricated befor trying to start iti know its only a xflow but even they must be getting harder to find ❤
Very cool car and different, yes keep it way it is make is safe and usable , we should have really was limited to tools etc
@BatysGarage guys their are plenty of other channels on here that can use basic tools to repair cars. Many of them give great advice I look forward to watching the videos on this escort am a new subscriber too. In hindsight wish I hadn't of broken up my share of mk1 estates keeping my 2dr saloon on the road like many mk1's they were just unloved old bangers in the 80's but I absolutely loved em still do🤩
@@marciabaldwin2506 Yes i know was bad setup from us but we was only pulling it out to clean it and see how bad it was and got a bit carried away. Thanks for the subscribe! Yea i can imagine you are gutted but like you say they just was old bangers then.
Car was gleaming after a wash nice find
Come up well with just a hose and some fairy lol
Patina??? This is Britain, Say it as it is ROT!!!
Yea keep a eye on the channel you will see it has plenty of that
It's a ford always starts even if siezed😂
🤣🤣🤣
I've only ever seen one other mk2 escort on an x plate
Must be a rare one then 👌🏻
Very rare being x reg
Yes it is
If it’s been military as he said may not be a true x reg it may have had military number and as far as I’m aware the last mk2 were on a w reg
Truck man’s correct
@@BatysGarage not true there was hand full of y regs I’m talking like maybe 200 cars
@@deanplant1500 this one is ex military was originally black why it was sprayed like this to match his mk1 estate
They gòt to rare than the mk two esorts
I would of thought so
Kent engine better than the wet belts ford engines now
100% todays engines are garbage
@@BatysGarageI agree I am a fan of classic Fords though I can't actually drive myself I remember these mark 2 Escort estates I think judging by the year I was 9 years old at the time in 1980 as a interesting story a neighbour near me where I live drives around daily in a MK2 cortina 1600 estate another classic ford to my mind 😊
@@stephenchecksfield632 Got to love a old ford, Young one then 😀. Nice mk2 dont see many about these days, i have a cortina mk5 myslef i will have to do a video of it.
It's an estate, just leave it there.
i like the estates and the vans dare to be different
She's a beauty
