My Dad, when the bridge was first built (1926), was the first eejit to climb up onto the centre arch and dive into the river Dee - he was only about 10 or 11 year old!!! Fearless bugger....
Nice Video, My family traces it roots back to Kickcudbright, My mothers maiden name is McLellan and we have some good books describing their settling in the US back in the early 1700's
My mother's maiden name is McLellan too. It was always a badge of honour to be named Archbald, William or Thomas in their ancestry...and for good reason. Our roots can be traced back to Kirkcudbright but this branch of our family later settled in Canada.
Me too! GG Grandmothers birthplace. “Gibson”. Fun to see video of the town where my ancestors might have walked around. Thanks for sharing. It would be neat to visit one day. My Scottish relatives went to the Southern US in late 1800’s
My great great grandfather Thomas Meredith came from there, in the late 1800's he and his brother (Albert Meredith) tried to sail around the world. They ended up shipwrecked off the coast of American Samoa, long story short, they married there and raised families.
My third great grandfather was the first vet surgeon to set up business here. He was also a town councillor. Around 1867. Mr Thomas Campbell opened the first Galloway Vets.
Used to stop on the way home for the ferry and stayed at the old Commercial Hotel when I went on bike trips, never pass the turn off going either way, it's just a nice wee spot!
