- Опубліковано 29 сер 2009
- Watch a brief video showing some rare German made NOS 12AU7/ECC82 tubes. This features the super-rare Siemens silver plate 12AU7, said to sound as good as the legendary Telefunken ECC802S. At audiotubes.com we currently have a good stock of these rare silver beauties at a price lower than any Telefunken tubes! Check out the Telefunken smoothplate and ribbed plate 12AU7 tubes as well. We also have these fine tubes in stock.
Hi, I mentioned your evaluations to the Tube Collector Association. Here is the most comprehensive answer in the least number of words:
"Didn't you read Vacuum Tube Valley magazine? For ten years, we performed
tests comparing NOS tubes to current production, and had no trouble
proving, again and again, that NOS audio tubes tended to have lower signal
distortion and better construction quality than the audio types
currently being
manufactured. With few exceptions."
I have been a EE for over 35 years 40-50 year old valves CAN work just fine, but the risk of mechanical damage due to age is significant. However, today's QA/QC is much worse. This is why companies like TAD and RUBY are in business. I cannot tell the difference between ribbed plate or flate plate Telefunkens on ANY test gear. Paying more than $30 for ANY 12AX7 is INSANE. But it's your money -have fun.
12AX7 tests: Sovtek LPS, Ei's & Tung-sols, they all were good -even Ruby Chinese 12AX7s. Blindfolded, I could tell no difference. Gear used: McIntosh C20 preamp, EL34 amp, EF86's drivers & 12AU7 phase-spliter. B&W speakers (bi-amped) Thorens TD124/SME and CD sources. Rebuild your gear with modern parts. Do not use silly bee's wax or snake oil caps. Sprague caps are fine. 1% film resistors, Use new electroytics, etc. Do this & you'll never worry about tubes again.
Awesome! These are rare tubes and are worth keeping!!
Yes, and those that cannot hear the difference keep TAD and RUBY in business. But I have been selling NOS tubes since 1996 and time and again people tell me the huge difference they hear when they replace a new tube with NOS, and both test the same on their tester. Everyone hears differently but I have never had a customer tell me they prefer a new tube over the old vintage tubes. We have a money back guarantee that says our NOS tubes will sound better than any other tube.
Hi, they should be in stock. Check out our complete stock list at our homepage noted in the video!
Hang on to them, they keep getting more valuable. These really shine in phono and mic preamps. The Telefunken smoothplates sound nearly as good at a lower cost, however.
Telefunken tubes rock! But give these silver beauties a try too. They are currently less expensive and sound like the Teles!
It is very easy to hear the difference between tubes in fender amps. The 12au7 in phase inverter spot changes tone and feel of the amp. Get a looper play a long phrase and record the loop. Switch a tube play and record again. Very easy to hear difference between Rca black plate, Rca grey plate. cleartop ect. Im glad people cant hear a difference that's why nos still exist.
So, all the tubes with that kind of silver ribbed plate, no matter if Siemens, Siemens Halske, Telefunken, Sonotone or also No-branded ones, are all the same type of rare tube?
I just got 9 of the Telefunken ripped plate and smooth plates out of ampeg rocorder, it was used very little, how much are they worth , Im keeping some I put them in my jcm800 and it's way more articulating compared to the JJ 's I had in there. I'm keeping all the 12ax7 but some where 12au7 I'm going to trade them at a guitar swap meet
I tested many 12AX7s & 5AR4s rectifiers. W/ rectifiers, the higher voltage and current ability wins. The Chinese won over Sovtek. The Chinese (QA'd by Ruby) handled about 45 more forward DCV and 7-10 MA before blowing the cathode insulation. The chinese cage design seemd suited for this extra abiltry. Fact, USA mains in 1960 were officially 110VAC, but 1963 they were 117 VAC. To day they are 120+VAC. I30VAC is not uncommon & blows tubes. Your treaured C22 was built for 117VAC NOT 125 VAC!
I have 6 Telefunken Diamond Bottom ECC803s!
just wonder if these are worth something these days?
They sure sound good in my old Marshall!
hi, ive made ecc82 preamp and im using it with lm3886 but i have a problem. the imput capacitor for the ecc82 is 470nf and the output is 1micro farad..the imput for the lm3886 is 2.2micro farad. The bass is to low, the mid and treble are just right...what to change to improve the sound ?
I can tell from 5 min of testing you can hear and feel the difference.
i have a nos 12au7a that has a black plate and a diamond/square shaped getter. i believe it to be a rca. are these valuable?
What you think you are hearing in old Telefunckens is likely because the years of cage-rattling has reduced performance. They have less mu resulting in PERCEIVED reduced hum & noise. Microphonics are also less because of less SIGNAL. I.e, if the circuit were repaired w/ fresh components, you would quickly prefer a Sovtek 12AX7LPS or a Ruby-Chinese 12AX7. Ei flat plates, ARE Telefunkens -same tooling ,etc. Buy what's cheap and makes sure your circuit is sound. Save your money.
Tube 12au7 itt what tubeis it
Tubes are not the big difference you think. The German's had a large industry making tubes for RCA, GE, Telefuncken, Sylvania, -most licensed from the US or England. After WWII, the Russians & Yugos took this tooling & technology back to their countries. Both countrys were slow to switch to siolid state so the factories were still in operation when the USA tube revival hit. Aside from some early QA-QC probs, we are now getting the exact same and better tubes as we got 60 years ago.
@lidesnowi about $600.00 each. lucky
ha he said seamen
I am a SCIENTIST -not a sooth sayer. -Sorry man.
Focus man! It looks very bad.
The way you keep making that wet, smacking sound makes me want to throw up.
