I like how the moderator/designer can organize conversations in Discord and Slack by using channels. When I came across something, I searched the relevant channel before I asked a question to see if another tester had a similar issue and if there were any resolutions. Discord seems to have more of a learning curve than Slack but after using both as a tester, it seemed easier to generate a sense of a community on Discord than Slack. But that could also be the communication style the designer had with their testers.
Your Lyon sweater is beautiful - the color is stunning! I can't comment on Discord because I've never done a test knit but love the idea of the "community" aspect of the test knit groups. Love your boots AND the cat chaos going on! 😊
lol, I got the same Uggs from Snipes, too! I love them & have already worn them out and about and to a knit night; so fun! 🤩 I also relate so much to how hard it can be to secretly knit a gift for someone you live with. 😅
Re discussion groups, my absolute favorite is discord! I use IG and those test chats have been lovely, but I’m always looking for more knitting discords 😁
I love Discord so much and I think it builds really great communities. Plus you could have a role for each test knit and have a channel/series of channels that are exclusive to that role. That way you could have just one Discord server for all your test knits as well as some general chat areas.
Thanks so much!! Truth be told I had just worn my Trim the Tree socks and was washing them so that they'd be ready to wear again for Christmas! They were a big hit. 😊
I’ve only ever done test knits with discord channels or an IG chat. I feel like discord offers more flexibility for organizing the chat (e.g. creating a section for yarn choices, one for progress / FO photos, one for pattern feedback, one for questions/answers, etc.), but I enjoy both.
I love discord for test knits - I like having specific threads for pattern stuff, and some social channels ❤ Also your Lyon sweater looks amazing I think it will be beautiful whenever you get it done!
Also I’m obsessed with your rain boots 😍 I think I remember seeing Charlotte Stone has the same boots, they seem like a must for colour work sock designers/knitters!
Slack would be my first choice for using when test knitting with discord a second. Either of these keep the test knit seperate from other groups and do create a good community for the test knit creating a fun place to share comments and photos while keeping the information completely private.
I love my Ugg clear boots! (My downfall is that I fog them up!) I also love your patterns, style of writing them, designs, etc… I apologize for not trying to get in your secret tee. There were many things that held me back on this one; 1. I totally sucked up my Trim the Tree sock test. 2. I am so far behind on gift making I felt guilty for wanting to make myself a tee. 3. It’s CHRISTmas already? OmG, how? Anywho, I wanted to say that it had not one thing to do with me not wanting your pattern. I will be waiting on the release. I like the way you set up your other test knit groups. I also like Discord. 🤷🏼♀️ It’s all fun
No worries at all! Honestly I totally get the holiday pressure, and I absolutely do not take that personally. I hope you're having a wonderful holiday and have enough time to get those gift knits done!
I forgot to ask if you sized up for your clear boots? I bought my regular shoe size and they are a bit tight to get into. I think I need to go up to an 8. I also have a high arch which is contributing to the difficulty in getting them on.
I didn't, but it was tricky with the sizing. I typically wear a 7-7.5 so I opted for the 8. They fit ok but are a little snug, though I worry I would've been swimming in the 8s. It is a shame they don't have half sizes!
Out of curiosity Michelle, what length do you knit your sock legs to? After watching many of your episodes, I am thinking that I need to get your siroc pattern and knit a pair. I didn't like a short row heel, but maybe I should try the shadow wrap one. I found the short row heel was far too short for my feet. Things to consider.
I typically do slightly longer than ankle length, around 4-6" which I really like. The Siroc sock pattern has instructions for both the shadow wrap and afterthought heel, so you can do either one! I love the shadow wrap heel and you can definitely customize it to make it longer by adding more twin stitches!
It's definitely a different format and moves quite quickly, so I get that. I do feel like it's being used more and more so something I want to get comfortable with!
I have not test knit yet. I have never been on IG. Too much. If I ever had to be I would probably sign up just for the test then unsubscribe. I am not familiar the other platforms. I realize I am an outlier but perhaps that s helpful to you.

I totally agree. I think the ability to have different channels and the ability to search are quite valuable.
Those clear boots are adorable! Great for showing off your hard work when you are not at home to admire them!
So true! I just love them.
The color of your Lyon Sweater is so pretty those two colors together! 😍
Thanks so much! I really love the color they created.
I think Discord is awesome and much easier to have conversations than IG
That seems to be what I'm hearing. Thanks for your feedback!

Hehe thanks so much!!

SO HARD! I'm so excited to wear those boots!
Re discussion groups, my absolute favorite is discord! I use IG and those test chats have been lovely, but I’m always looking for more knitting discords 😁
I think I agree, discord seems like the way to go moving forward!

I completely agree! I'll probably move to discord after this test.
Love the pizza socks. My grandson would love them.
Thank you! They're really fun.
Love the boots! Surprised you're not wearing your Christmas socks; they are so cute & match your cowl. Merry Christmas!
Thanks so much!! Truth be told I had just worn my Trim the Tree socks and was washing them so that they'd be ready to wear again for Christmas! They were a big hit. 😊
I have read a few of Ruth Ware's books and The Woman in Cabin 10 is one her best in my opinion. Hope you have a very Merry Christmas!
Oh that one was on my list! I'll need to add that to my (ever-growing) queue.

This is what I'm most excited about, it feels less chaotic when you need something specific and don't want to scroll for hours!
Loving your cozy podcast, thank you very much and Merry Christmas 🎄
Thanks so much!! I hope you're having a wonderful holiday season. 🎄
Love all your projects!! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you!!! ❤

Thanks so much! I think I will do discord in the future for this very reason.
They're just fantastic, I have no regrets!
Yay! Love the rainboots! Thanks for the shoutout Michele!
Also, Discord is fine if more accessible to more people!
You're so welcome, your amazing reel inspired me! I might try Discord for my next test!
@ looking forward to it!
Love the gumboots!
Thanks! I'm so excited to wear them out.

@@meeshyfrazzknits just finished socks for my son… he used to be a little guy, those were some big ol socks
The pizza socks are so fun, your partner is going to love them! I prefer Discord to IG group chats, following conversations in IG is difficult for me.
I definitely think I'll be trying discord for my next test. Thanks for your feedback!!
I got some of those clear boots for the exact same reason.
They're so fun!
I'd prefer Discord or Ravelry to Instagram. I had to show my husband the pizza socks because every time I ask him to cook he wants to make pizza.
Aww haha I love that!!
Oops! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Happy holidays to you as well!!
I think discord would be great rather than instagram to be honest
Good to know - thanks!!

I would go for a non-IG/FB every time. Even if I have to figure out a new app.
I agree, it feels like the right time to move to something different.

For "None of This is True", I did have one big question at the ending...not sure if it's too much of a spoiler to put it here?
I think as long as you label it as a spoiler first then you're ok!
I dont like IG but I am on discord, just to answer your question.
Good to know! I'm still very new to discord but I can see its merits.
I’m in two groups on Discord and I seem to be alone in that I don’t like it! I think I may just have to get used to the format. Merry Christmas!
It's definitely a different format and moves quite quickly, so I get that. I do feel like it's being used more and more so something I want to get comfortable with!
I felt similarly about None Of This Is True, I found the premise very interesting and the ending left me kind of meh.
Yeah, I felt exactly the same. Hoped for a better ending after so much build up.
I have not test knit yet. I have never been on IG. Too much. If I ever had to be I would probably sign up just for the test then unsubscribe. I am not familiar the other platforms. I realize I am an outlier but perhaps that s helpful to you.
Good to know! I never require it, I just like to have it as an option for testers who want a sense of community.
I like community which is why I would be willing to sign up for the length of a test. Have a wonderful Christmas Holiday.
