I’m so impressed that you have a full tree with the cats. We just adopted two kittens (7 months old) and I’m pretty sure I can’t put up lights much less a full tree this year. The sweater is beautiful… can’t wait to see it finished!
It definitely takes a break-in period for sure! I just recommend putting some stuffed animal ornaments or plastic/tougher ornaments near the bottom to hold their interest. That way if they run off with it, it's not as big of a deal!
My go to bind off for ribbing has been the sewn bind off (no set up rows because that always ends up too tight for me). I've found the more stitches I have to bind off, the "shorter" length I need to complete the bind off. I always do a generous four times the circumference plus extra (6-10 inches) for weaving in, and if it's a cuff or collar, it seems to work out just about right, but for a hem, I have a really good amount left over.
I also typically do the sewn bind-off without the set-up rows, as I never felt like the extra 2 rows were worth it. Decided to try it again on the Robinia and still can't say if I prefer it!
I do Italian bind off for everything and I always cut short yarn (arm length). When I run of the yarn, I just weive in into ribbing, cut new yarn, weive in into ribbing and go on with binding off. It saves tons of time and tons of nerves 😉
I love the tree being up- I have the Christmas bug already, and I want to enjoy the festive season as long as possible 😃 I will be knitting these fun socks, too!
Love the socks and cowl. I ordered the same stitch markers last weekend and received them today. I also got an extra one that is clear bulb along with a few knitting stickers, very nice. Love the kitty antics.
Just bought the patterns and looked at the first page of the sock pattern and was imagining you lying on the floor in front of the Christmas tree and your husband taking the photo 🤭 Excited to knit these soon!
Omg!! Hi, I just found you! That colorwork cowl and socks are just the cutest thing ever!! I love it! Thinking of it for my twin’s teachers for Christmas! 🎄🥰❤️
You totally knit-fluenced me, bought the kit and pattern today for the cowl. I keep looking and not buying all week and finally caved today. Thank you for the pattern and working with Hazel Knits, I love her yarn and shop.
I understand your sweater frustrations! And something that has worked consistently for me when ripping back or doing a sewn bind off with sticky mohair or blown yarns is to throw the project in the freezer for like 30 or 40 minutes. When the fiber is cold, it doesn’t stick. I work with the chilled yarn until it warms up to room temperature and then repeat the chilling process until I’m done. Anyway thanks for sharing your beautiful makes in another great episode!
That's such a good idea! I've heard of the freezer method for calming down the fibers/closing the cuticle but didn't even think about it for this! I might do that once I get to the sleeve bind-off.
The Haunting of Hill House is amazing, as is The Haunting of Bly Manor. I did like both of those better than The Fall of the House of Usher, although that one absolutely was good too. You're right though, they're not the kind of series to do a sewn bind of during. I can only knit while watching because I usually don't have to look at my knitting (even if only because I need to try to spot all of the ghosts in THOHH). Both of them are great to re-watch too.
I love these patterns, if I make the cowl I'll just wear it in my winter (July-August) despite the Christmas theme! I can also see that motif in a throw blanket. I've noticed so many garment patterns have a sewn bind off, but I wonder if it really adds much to some of them, rather than a simple bind off in pattern, what do you think?
I love the idea of a throw blanket, that would be so cute! Maybe with a fabric backing on it to hide the floats. I will admit I love a sewn bind-off. I typically do the Italian sewn bind-off and don't do the 2 setup rows (I've never felt like that's added anything) but I do love the look of the edge. If you want something a little less fussy with a similar look, you could check out the Ruke BO! www.rukeknit.com/en/blog/ruke-cast-off
I have a cat since june this year, so it will be her first christmas, and christmas tree 🙈 what do you do to make sure they won’t break the ornaments!? Help 😅
Oh man, it is tough! We like to put the "low-hanging fruit" at the bottom of the tree to keep their attention. So we have a few stuffed animal ornaments at the bottom that they like to bat at and steal, and then we have some plastic ornaments closer to the bottom, with all of our more precious ornaments near the top. That works *most* of the time!

I love your entire discussion of the robinia sweater!
Oh thank you!!

Oh interesting! I never thought about doing it this way, but I might have to try this. That long strand is such a pain!

It's so nice to have it up, I find myself getting more cheerful every time I see it. So glad you'll be knitting these socks too!

Oh fun!! Yeah it must be a little extra gift she's adding in for the holidays.
Those Trim the tree socks are so cute and perfect for leftover!
Thank you! I totally agree, they're great stashbusters!
Just bought the pattern! It will be my next cast on ❤
Adore your podcast! Just ordered the cowl kit, I love stranded colorwork! Cannot wait!
Oh that's awesome!! I hope you love it!
I can’t wait to start the Trim the Tree socks!! I need to finish a Christmas gift first, but then it’s on!
Oh that's awesome! I'd love to see them once you're done!

Haha it was quite a funny setup to get that shot, a behind the scenes photo would've been priceless!

Hello from Washington!

My lighted Snowflake goes up in the window as soon as the porch light is turned off from Halloween.
We still have to watch Bly Manor, but I agree -- in retrospect not a show to do a sewn bind-off to! Hah lesson learned...
I love it!
I just bought the kits and the patterns in the interest of saving me time. My Christmas present to myself.
Oh that's fantastic! I'd love to see them once you finish!
I do not use Instagram so would have to email you a picture.
@@elenabeyers2088 If you have Ravelry, you could also share it on your project page (linked to the pattern)!
That would be a first. I have never shared my projects on Ravelry. I guess I should look into it….😊 I am always in a hurry to start the next project.
I’m such a nube. Is there a UA-cam video for how to do this. Lol. Yeesh…
