How did you all like the Episode 1 reaction?🖤At the end of the video I explain why I have been gone for a bit on this channel but I am BACK and ready to react to all of Wednesday and soon The Last of Us. 😍 Let me know if you have any questions and thank you for sticking around. 👇
I think I’m not the only one who has grown wary of remakes and revivals, so Wednesday definitely exceeded my expectations! I’m so glad you’re talking about Wednesday’s psychology!! Please do the whole season!! I’d love to hear more about if Wednesday exhibits more of a sociopathic a psychopathic profile. I think most would argue she exhibits more psychopathic traits, but I would VERY MUCH enjoy hearing your professional, nuanced perspective 💜
I binged it in two days, I immediately thought Wednesday is an interesting case study of social interactions, even tho her actions are extreme and sometimes dark, I found myself relating to her a lot, also Jenna Ortega really does the character justice
I sat down to watch it with my family not expecting to like it other than the fact that i like the Addams family, and i liked the first episode so much that while they all went to bed after the first episode ended, i stayed up all night just binging the entire show.
As a someone who was bullyed, I really enjoyed scene with pool, this is how you have to solve the problem, nothing else works, but yes, they will send you to terapists because it's obviously everything your fault, not fault of people who bully you. 😀 People who bully other kids are actually weak cowards, just hit him into face and problem solved, his friends won't help him becuase he is not cool anymore when you hited him. There is no other way how to solve that, believe me. I was at least lucky that I always had some friend who was big and who guarded me, but when he was not in school in that day, that was problem.
12:30: Wednesday's actor's display of anxiety, insecurity, vulnerability and disappointment, is just so spot on. She blinks, for the first time in the series, and her mouth opens slightly. As if the therapist told her she read her diary and wants to talk about it.
The reason why Wednesday actually sits with her therapist so long is because up until she brings up her novel, the Therapist was engaging with her in a somewhat challenging way. Wednesday isn't one to show she feels uncomfortable, especially not in front of what she considers an opponent. This opponent had insight into her head thanks to her novels however, so retreating became more important then necessarily saving face through direct confrontation.
I like to think it's also because Wednesday had an escape plan and it had a schedule that needed to be followed. She had to wait a bit so the headmistress wasn't paying attention to the front of the building.
@@ericwilliams2546 make no mistake, she walked into that therapy session like it was going to be a battle. Escape was always the priority because of what she needed to do, but if she could have intimidated her therapist into backing off, and then leaving? She would have preferred it. Her slinking out like that likely counts as only a partial victory, or perhaps just a delayed battle. Wednesday is kinda terrified of being accurately perceived by other people, and that Therapist was coming in hard.
My take was that she doesn't just leave because it would be a direct violation of a court order, and when she breaks the rules - she wants to have a head start.
Wednesday's reaction to authority figures is 'you think you are smarter than me? That is not working.'. Unfortunately both my parents had Phd's from Berkley, so that did not work as well for me.
What I love about her is her character growth, while still remaining true to herself. Unlike a lot of the other female leads in shows like this, where they start off as one way and then completely and totally change by the end.
Yes! She's growing but she doesn't even acknowledge the growth, and still somehow files it away in her "transactional" mental cabinet. The showrunners have to walk a fine line here... If they hurry up her transition, it will get sappy and unbelievable. Tyrion, in game of thrones, is a good example of a character who changed but managed to hold on to his core, which made him great to watch.
tbh I don't see any need for growth. There's always this tendency to think that characters who "don't fit in" or are too weird must develop/grow and at least reach a compromise between their true personality and what others expect of them, what others find acceptable. Take Christina Ricci's Wednesday for example. In "Addam's Family Values" she didn't "grow" even after spending all that time in the summer camp, we just get to see her in her rawest personality but in a completely different and contrasting context, and that is definitely more interesting than just seeing a character "grow" into whatever society thinks they should be.
Headcanon: Thing is actually very (physically) sensitive to vibrations and physical touch. That's why he can communicate with people without being able to hear. Over the years, he's been able to adapt to the vibrations of talking, emotions, and to be wary of his surroundings.
I watched another therapist do a deep dive into that first therapy scene and talk about all the do's and don't and why it would be hard for Wednesday to trust this therapist. It was really interesting to hear why this woman's approach would make connecting with her harder. Obviously Wednesday doesn't want to be there, but is court ordered to attend. Making those connections with someone that is there against their will is really hard.
As someone who was exactly like Wednesday as a teenager, this is very interesting to watch. I've learned more from this than the many different therapists and psychiatrists I've gone through. Good video
My therapist was more interested in her feminist agenda and my use of the pronoun "she" instead of the title "mom" ignoring my molestation and abuse. My mother used to force me to take before and after pictures of dying family members as "a soulless bastard" to criticize the mortician's ability to dress the body and as a momento mori. Thanks to her delusional paranoia, I used to sleep with a sharpened battle axe under my pillow and a loaded crossbow above my headboard. She didn't trust my brother and I to have keys to our house so she had us wait in our wolf's kennel until she got home from work then immediately proceeded to boarded us inside of the house (5 2x4s in brackets across the front door). We were forced to do mundane tasks until 3 am on a school day like clean the floors with a toothbrush then beat us for brushing clockwise instead of counterclockwise. To this day, I "hide?" behind a shield of emotional detachment and indifference to socal norms. When people say Wednesday Addams is an extreme, that level of sociopathic behavior is far more common than they realize especially in males in which emotion is a demasculinization in the first place.
The fact that the therapist is analysing an acted character portrayed by an actress who might have a different aura and makes it look like she's actually the Wednesday shows how Jenna just slayed the role.
Loved this show! It was definitely weirdly cheap in some production qualities. Like I THINK the monster CGI is supposed to be purposefully bad to be campy... but it's REALLY bad even for Netflix camp standards. And yeah the fight scene... ludicrous lol. The show is 100% at its best when it's focusing on the relationships between characters. I love how Wednesday interacts with everyone and the world around her. I love her family and especially Morticia. Those family moments are the most interesting. I also think that FINALLY, for ONCE, a show depicts high school students as actually YOUNG looking and not actors who look to be in the mid 20s playing high school students. It feels like an actual high school (minus the classes). It's not overly focusing on sex or drugs or being rebellious by being sexy, as that's generally the only way girls are allowed to rebel -- by pleasing other boys and men. Wednesday is a breath of fresh air and, unlike Twilight, manages to achieve the believability of a new girl getting a lot of attention from two particularly different boys. A good love triangle! Amazing. One of the better "modernized" series to come out.
Ok, yes. Thank you! the CGI was just... bad. It looked like Gollum but way worse haha. You're so right about this show depicting "actual" high school. Euphoria, for example, was much more what my own high school experience was like so I vibe with it. And, THIS show was refreshing! It makes me happy to see just a happy, high schooler who enjoys life and is primarily innocent (Enid). The love triangle is sweet and I'm liking it too. I'm excited to see how Wednesday and her mom's relationship grows. It seems like it's going to be sweet. Thanks for commenting :)
@@Luvrenebebe Enid and Wednesday actresses are both in their early twenties as well. I think Young Royals on Netflix is a better example of teens actually playing teens as a lot of the cast are relatively young. Edvin being 17 when filming season 1. Which was just a year older than Willhelm is in the show.
You literally said "Purposefully bad", The fight scenes are actually pretty accurate. The whole show just like the movies and the comics is a satire that's why the monster cgi is campy because in most YA fantasy shows the monsters looks "cute" and so on.
I’m Schizoid and heavily resonate with Wednesday. The detachment, emotional bluntness, lack of facial expressions, even her sexuality as a lot of schizoids are asexual/demisexual. She’s extremely intelligent and obsessed with introspection playing it out in her writing. She is more social then most but Schizoid personality disorder is on a spectrum.
Wait… Schizoid personality disorder?? I have not heard of that before. I have always thought something is from with me as I am very different from anyone I ever see. I am detached from everyone, I have emotional bluntness, I have no facial expressions (I am ALWAYS deadpan) and sexuality - I am not sure as I have never been attracted to anyone before (I literally have not seen anyone as attractive- and I have no interest in “Love”). Do you think I may have this personality disorder?? How do I find out?? I always thought I am Autistic, a psychopath, or just broken. All seem plausible (maybe even some overlap). I have never gone to get checked out before though… as you know… the detachment from people and society. I want to, but I can’t.
@@Adam-yu5zj in my opinion, skip the therapist and psychiatrist first, find a psychologist. For years I got therapy and I got nowhere but with my psychologist, I finally got my diagnosis and the help I needed.
@@Adam-yu5zj Schizoid is a Cluster A (odd/eccentric) personality disorder. Most ppl have either not heard of it or connect it to schizophrenia which is not the case. It’s not well known because most people that do have it don’t actually seek help for it. The ones that do go to a therapist and tend to get misdiagnosed as a lot of medical professionals aren’t well versed with Schizoid. Yaakov is correct in that statement absolutely. I’d suggest even doing your own research first to make sure it’s a good fit before you let them know your concerns. Wiki, forums, the DSM for the traits, etc. Make sure they are well seasoned in their field. It’s very possible you may have it, it’s more common in males then females. Ppl with this diagnosis also are unheard of because they’re not social creature’s. You’ll never find them on social platforms making videos for the general public, they are huge shut ins/hermits and rarely have more then 2 close “friends” I put friends in quotes because a lot of schizoids mask so their friends don’t typically see them for who they are. Think of it like this; Enid is the mask while Wednesday is the disorder.
@@BloodBunnie I do that to the people I know! I would say I have 0 friends as I don’t do anything with them (activities - never have ever. Also when I was a kid I never even had a birthday party as I didn’t want to be with anyone). I avoid social interactions at all cost. Last year I even went to the effort of telling my mother that the laundry facilities at university were broken for the entire year, so they would come up and see me, take and wash my clothes and bring them up next week as I did t want to have social interactions at the laundry facilities. Also, my flat (group of 8 people who share kitchen facilities) I have been with them for half a year now and I met them the first day, after that I avoid them. I can’t even remember their names. They knock on my door regularly which I always ignore, I always listen through the walls to see if anyone is in the kitchen as I will only go when it is empty to avoid conversation. The only time when I interact with people is when I gain benefit from it, such as for study and I want the answer to some questions. I haven’t even attended lectures for 1 and a half years (they release recordings of them online) so I don’t interact with others. I went online and did some research and well the first thing I searched was how common was it, and it said 3-5%!!! In the US (I’m UK though, but that’s irrelevant). Now I know you said like you don’t see them as they distance themselves, but like I have not seen a single person in my life who is like me. I am so different from every person I have ever met. Now I don’t “mask” my difference (whatever it is), but surely those that do wouldn’t fit in that well and be unrecognisable. I will do some more digging and after see what I can do, but recently I have started to lose my mind, as i am perplexed as to why I am so different. Thank you two for the guidance. Also, I am a bit skeptic as to be diagnosed with something as I don’t know if in the future applying to my job that I wouldn’t be considered because of it (or a problem - whether that be autism, schizoid or whatever it is).
16:45 The music is based on the Rolling Stone's "Paint It Black". Nice arrangement, rich and orchestrated. Says a lot about Wednesday's outlook on life, and hints there is much more to Wednesday than she shows.
I don't know if you noticed the choice of music that Wednesday played on her cello. It was a classical music version of the Rolling Stone's "Paint it Black". I found it so interesting because it's about a person wanting to turn everything that is colorful in life and paint it black. "I see a red door And I want it painted black No colors anymore I want them to turn black I see the girls walk by Dressed in their summer clothes I have to turn my head Until my darkness goes..." "...I wanna see it painted Painted black Black as night Black as coal I wanna see the sun Blotted out from the sky I wanna see it painted, painted, painted Painted black, yeah" 🖤🖤🎶🎨🖌👩🎨🎻🎶🖤🖤
She also played the opening to the Elgar cello sonata... One of the pieces Jacqueline duPre was known for playing, before she got MS and could play cello anymore.
The fact that Wednesday rejects social norms, even in groups supposed for outcasts, is why I relate to her so much. I feel the same way about today's goth subculture as she does about Nevermore academy.
Yes I agree. Personally, I have also always ignored or wanted to ignore social norms. I never liked people., always avoided social situations. Also, people call me emo/gothic, so you would think I would feel more comfortable in the goth subculture, but I don't. I'm just as uncomfortable around other "emos/goths" as I am around other people.
I don’t think there’s a reason why Wednesday is dark. That’s just a her family dynamic. They always praise her bad behavior. Her mom was even happy at the thought of her husband being a murderer one episode 😂
I totally relate to the part where you talked about the moment in childhood where people experience something that eventually leads them to shut their emotions off to the point where they’re unable to experience these emotions anymore and relate to the experiences of others. I was the same I used to be so empathic and loving and kind but i wasn’t exactly treated that way back. Now I struggle so bad caring for other people, especially others I don’t know. It’s like you pretend not to care for so long that It isn’t pretending anymore. Then it’s too late once you realise. It honestly gives me anxiety because I’m torn between being liked and people seeing me as a good person and not caring what people think.
This is me. I experienced severe trauma and abuse (sadistic abuse before age 4 (burned on a stove; zipped up in a duvet and thrown in locked closests/ restraining order against my father and removal from the home; unstable mother; severe emotional abuse; depression (untreated); autism was diagnosed but not addressed (never informed until I was an adult); loss of a twin sister due to complications to my sister's own history with depression due to the same forms of abuse...) I essentially have issues feeling and processing both negative and positive emotions now. If anything is too stressful I numb out almost automatically. I rarely feel lonely/ sad but I do feel sort of empty and sometimes anxious but it's more free floating. I also know how to disconnect from anxiety and zone out so I often numb. Your words resonate with me because I often feel very "in my head" but was also criticized a lot for being too aloof/ seemingly disinterested in others and reprimanded for being that way. (I suspect some of that is just misunderstanding how an autistic child would have behaved and asserting that I did not care or was cold when I was just...shutdown and overloaded.)
This was incredibly interesting to watch. Thank you so much for your analysis and insight. I will be definitely following along and very much looking forward to your TLOU analysis as well. I binged the whole show very fast, so it is so interesting to go back to it through reaction videos, see other people's perspectives, and catch some new things myself that I didn't the first time around. It was very intriguing that she decided to try and help Rowan. We saw earlier that she had the vision of that farmer getting killed in the car accident and decided not to help. Which could mostly be that he was rude to her and a human manifestation of how society sees her and the other outcasts in general. Now, she didn't have much of a connection with Rowan either at this point. Besides him being an outcast as well, and seeing him get bullied by other outcasts during the fencing scene. Her decision to help could very well come from a "protecting the weaker" place, much like she used to do with her brother. But I think that something else that might have factored in that decision could have been her conversation with Enid, her roommate, out in the balcony. Not only did Wednesday let her guard down ever so slightly, by sharing that story of her pet getting killed (by bullies non the less), but she also saw, through Enid, that being a pariah for whatever reason (Enid not able to wolf out and Rowan telling Wednesday that he is an outcast among outcasts) can be really hurtful to people, even though it is something she herself enjoys. So, I am wondering whether her decision to follow Rowan had to do with seeing him upset, even more than it had to do with seeing him getting killed in the vision. Because we had already seen her not doing anything to prevent another death earlier in the episode. Just my thought process. Sorry for the long comment!!
The incident with the old man dying in the automobile accident may be the reason Wednesday went after Rowan. I believe that when she had the vision with the old man dying, she probably did not know what to do, since it appeared to be the first time she had a vision about something like that. When she saw that the vision came true and then had the vision about Rowan, she felt that she had to do something to stop the vision from coming true again. Wednesday may be sadistic when it comes to exacting her revenge, but I don't think she is capable of actually killing someone unless it is in self defense or defense of others.
I’ve seen a lot of people headcannoning Wednesday as autistic. Curious what you might think about that. I really liked the show and I love that you’re watching it now ❤!
I am autistic and I immediately identified with Wednesday. I would also like to know what the therapist thinks. In my experience most therapists are not very up to date on autism and tend to ignore the signs especially in so called "high functioning" autistic persons.
I'm not a therapist or specialist, but doesn't an autistic person have a problem looking people in the eye? And Wednesday can do that without feeling uncomfortable. So, in my opinion, I don't the is an autistic person.
@@tathianamartins2107 Autistic people can make eye contact, they might not make/avoid eye contact or might have intense eye contact or might force eye contact.
I have Autism, and can relate to Wednesday on many levels in that regard. The lack of boundaries with what we think and say, the near antisocial behaviour, the lack of understanding other people’s emotions and such. It would be really interesting if she somehow was on the Spectrum, but I doubt anyone would want to do that to a mainstream character without pushback. I really liked your video! Gonna keep watching and subscribe! Thank you for the awesome content!!
Loved listening to your take on this! I’m a psych student in school currently and just watching made me so excited because, yes she shows dramatic extremes, is the spinning image of neurodivergence and how to navigate the world with it. The more you watch into the series you can even psychoanalysis the rest of the characters and ugh I love it!! Plus knowing how the Addams family has been around since the 40’s (I could be wrong), the way they act is so true to their established character even when acted out by different people in different “Addams Universe”. Ahhh love this show!!!
Omg. I just saw your channel for the 1st time. This Wednesday review was awesome. Please review all the episodes. It’s fascinating to see a therapist point of view.
I'm glad you're doing this series! Wednesday is super fun as a character, Enid also has some really interesting stuff in some later episodes about conformity I'm curious to hear your thoughts on when that comes up! Good luck with all your treatment
I need the full analysis of her character, NOW!!! This video was amazing at pointing out why Wednesday acts the way she is. And as intriguing as Wednesday's character is, I can't help but feel she's also raised in such unnatural (normal in her eyes) environtment to the point it altered all of her perceptions and values, going as far as questioning the genuine love her family has for her...
Thanks so much for this, doc, i have 2 episodes to go on WEDNESDAY and I'm loving it so far. Your breakdown does a lot to explain the character, super useful. I won't say any more about the show, except that it's lots of fun. I hope you enjoy, and will definitely follow your reactions.
I'm very very thankful for your commentary. I always learn so much when i listen to you. Take care of yourself Dr. and all the best in the stuff going on in your life🙏🏿🙌🏿
It blew my mind how you could predict important parts of the plot just by analyzing her. Now I want to see the series again taking into account aspects of Wednesday that I had never noticed. This was amazing, you're incredible ♡
Dr Courtney, you’re awesome! As an intelligent 29yo female with an Autistic ADHDer (AuDHD) neurology, and an INTJ 5w4 personality, inclusive of experiencing trauma in life: I can 100% relate to, pre-empt and understand Wednesday’s perspectives, communication style, relationship dynamics, empathy style/dynamic, etc. I could go on, but my point is: to consider the info provided above, regarding the atypical neurobiology of autism (incl. 2e). Another point of interest to consider: the double empathy dilemma between autie’s vs other neurodivergents and neurotypicals. Autist’s can appear similarly to psychopaths & sociopaths (and less so, narcs) at face value, until you start to deep dive and scratch beneath the surface. I suppose being calculating/strategic, focused and confident in a pursuit of a goal/interest can be off-putting and perplexing to others who don’t get it. Oh well. Also, Tim Burton ftw! What a creative aspie/autie! #MVP I look forward to you watching through to the end of the season 🎉 Nicolle :)
Ah here it is! Only a matter of time before the Autism question was thrown out there. I wanted to ask the same thing, but was a bit afraid to because I don't wish to endorse negative stereotypes. I am aspie too and Wednesday's way of dealing with people is what I would like to do, but I am too sensitive. I learned to care too much for some reason. Trust me I tried and it did not work out. I am curious to what @The Truth Doctor Show thinks about this hypothesis?
I agree. Fellow autistic, diagnosed as a child. I was much more aloof and even overtly odd as a young child but I was chastised and became warmer over time mostly to stop the criticism. Wednesday's behaviour in the show seems more like how I was when very small and Enid seems more like how I seem to be now. But so much of my current self is riddled with anxiety. I feel like almost everything I say and do is laced with huge amounts of social anxiety and a constant need to clarify because I was called "somber" and "disinterested" when little.
@@kpaxian6044 I enjoyed reading what you’ve had to say. Thanks for sharing. Yeah, there’s a part of me within that can somewhat relate to a mini Enid at times (the colourful & sincere honesty), though it perplexes me. I was late diagnosed. My autie friend said, “I think you’re definitely on the spectrum”, as I was very expressive in my written communication, then deadpan and lacking expression in-person. This was the catalyst for discovery & diagnosis. Autistic me is more obvious, compared to my adhd, probably because it’s the hardest to mask/camouflage aaaand because I’ve found that most people prefer ’upbeat’ people - ergo, overcompensating. Though, I’m unmasking/unmasked a lot more nowadays and unapologetic about it - my authentic AuDHD self is here for it! I have an ‘Enid’ in my life and I’m very fond of her! She brings something different and unique to my life. I call her my rainbow unicorn hehe. Suffice to say, the ‘Enid’ and ‘Wednesday’ dynamic/relationship/integration is definitely an invaluable treasure - with oneself and with others. A worthwhile and beautiful paradox that definitely works somehow lol
@@lesliea.6440 Thanks for taking the time to write out your thoughts and perspective. It was cool to read. I agree with you about being curious of Dr Courtney’s thoughts regarding the hypothesis. I think I’m the opposite to you, in that I can’t sustain being my sensitive self for too long, nor can I force it or act it if it’s not authentic/real. Simply put, I’m just way more ‘Wednesday-ish’. The sensitive parts of me are for me, internally, and usually sucker punch me when the sensitivity/emotion/compassion strikes within and rises up. I protect this. If I’m going to cry then I’ll do so in private. A few public meltdowns and displays of ‘messiness’ have taught me to escape when I’m able to sense the ‘rumblings’ prior to a shutdown/meltdown. I’ve gotten better over time to be able to sense the build, but I’m still quite the volcano (due to hypo-sensitive interoception & alexithymia). For me, I didn’t find Wednesday to be a negative stereotype, only because I relate, meaning that I could sense (and probably somewhat project/guess) underlying emotions that aren’t always obviously visible. So looking at it externally, I can see how the negative stereotype can be portrayed. I would suggest that it’s ‘unbalanced’. Hence, what you’ve had to say and share. I think we don’t get to see enough of Wednesday’s internal world (beyond what the show has shared). When I watched, I could relate to the parts where she didn’t have typical emotion and seemed void of it (also partly true for me). I could also relate to the parts where she would have had thoughts/emotions internally that would have been intense (I feel very intensely, internally and I don’t always know it, or when I do I can’t always identify the emotion or why or show/articulate/express it #alexithymia). For me, my emotions are all or nothing (hypersensitive and intense orrrr hyposensitive and literally deadpan nothingness). It can be a struggle to navigate but I think I go pretty alright with it nowadays haha. My younger sister would relate to you wayyyy more than I can. She’s more sensitive and aware of her feelings than I am. She can process them upfront and honestly, which is also better than I can. I admire these things about her. I admire your sensitivity. I think being able to honestly express yourself by having greater access/awareness/expression of sensitivities is something to be admired and valued. It’s something I find myself wanting to protect, for myself and for other’s, in my own ‘Wednesday-ish’ sort of way. I hope you have at least one quality person or a number of people who support and champion you, simply for who you are and how you are :)

I have BPD along with psychosis including visions and am the same personality type as her and I related so heavily to her character that people around me are starting to compare me to her lol. I feel seen for once if I’m being honest…. This show helped me work through some of my own defense mechanisms and negative behaviors. I am obsessed with this show, by Jenna portrayal and by Wednesday's character, journey and arc who gets even more and more interesting and at the same time... somehow, so relatable. She's such a strong, yet sensitive characters... So unique and so interesting! Lovve your video!
Man, I missed seeing you on my timeline. Glad to hear the break was for good things, not stuff going wrong. Love the irony of releasing this show on Wednesday! I was wondering how familiar you are with other incarnations of the Addams Family? Historically the Addams family has been very macabre but also very loving and accepting of each other. The original incarnation from the 60s had a lot to say about how a family does not have to be "normal" to be loving and cohesive. This series rubbed a lot of people the wrong way by installing a lot of family drama in the new series. The Addams were always supper supportive of each other's endeavours and quirks in the older incarnations, no matter if they understood them or not (for example Pugsley wanted to join the boy scouts in one episode, and that is not really a Addams thing). I would be super interested in your takes on the older Addams family incarnations (probably the best one would be the 1991 movie), and am looking forwards more stuff from you going forwards. Can't wait for the rest of this series!
I don't know a lot about them but I do know some of the background. I really love what they stand for. This explanation was helpful! Thanks for watching and being a part of the community here :)
This is a brilliant channel. You are amazing! Mental health awareness is so important more than ever. I love the way you break everything down. Simple, educational & Entertainment. Thank you 🙏
Head canon: Wednesday grows up to use her perceptive, sensitive and honest nature to become a Therapist. This therapist. Your dark hair and overall look is like a gorgeous, grown up, happy alternate reality Wednesday and there's something cool about watching this when you have such similar looks!
your analysis is great, it really shows how well the writers know the material. as a long time fan of all of charles addams creations, this show is a great extension of addams world.
Cool analysis! Usually I don't care for these "such and such expert reacts to..." Videos, but I took a chance on this one. Fascinating analysis of a great character.
I spent the majority of my life in what can only be considered a transactional relationship. It was an incredibly toxic relationship both ways, but it did work at the time. But nothing was ever done because we loved each other, it was done to get something in return. Since that broke down after 2 decades though, I've been trying to focus on myself and improve my outlook on things. The problem now is while I occasionally get an urge to speak to someone and seek out a new relationship, it never lasts... Then I wind up getting frustrated that I'm having to give up my time and wind up calling it off.
I loved this first season! Yes, I've binged it & it's all amazing! Jenna Ortega is a wonderful talent! Really enjoyed your analysis of Wednesday & her family. Looking forward to hearing more from you! Can't wait to see how you feel about certain things that happen, going forward, enjoy!
OMG I already love this! I knew there was more to Wednesday than meets the eye so you breaking all this down really helps and is very interesting. Keep up this amazing content❤
I love, love, LOVE this analysis! Wednesday has been one of my favourite characters since I was a kid - I always related to her because I was (well, am) an oddball myself. I love how she is portrayed in this show, she has so much depth. This was great! Also, I think if you put your hair in braids you'd really look like her too :)
Great reaction! Love the specific detailed comments. Never thought on the majority of those. But now that you mention it… About Wednesday taking an interest on helping people: as we just watched, prior to coming to Nevermore, she started writing novels about a detective girl (obviously based on her) and, besides solving a mystery (being entertained with discovering facts), I think detectives want to help people and find justice… So, at the end of this episode, when we see that smile she must find incredible exciting that apparently her novels kinda seems to become alive.
I just realised the incongruency in episode 1 where she had a vision facing Rowan in his death when it was Tyler who caught her when she bumped into him makes so much sense now! At first I questioned it but just passed it off as "maybe she touched him from the bump" but with both of them dressed how they are, it was unlikely that she made skin to skin contact with Rowan. It was a vision from touching Tyler! It was in Tyler's perspective too! Just that no one realised it at that point because she was new to her visions and your classmate dying is pretty distracting for one to notice the details like that. Hahaha I always thought that part was weird or an oversight, but I guess not :)
I never noticed that, but it makes so much sense. Do you remember how she got the vision about Eugene being in the woods? Did she also come in contact with Tyler there?
I must say I loved your analysis. It helped me understand more the character and why she is so fixed on continuing with that unhealthy behavior for people around her. She fears emotions and how they'd change her. Keep it up! Good job! New subscriber here.
I really enjoyed how you are able to pick it apart. Unfortunately for me, when I was 15, I was involved in a car accident that gave me a TBI. This has resulted in my inability to read people as well as I should. I am now following you because I find your comments to be somewhat therapeutic!
Your insight into the idea that Wednesday has her opinions about society due to seeing how society reacts to her family is so interesting. Gomez especially is so gregarious while also completely oblivious to any negative reaction to his and his families lifestyle - like it never occurs to him to judge some milquetoast family negatively and conversely he never expects to be judged in return. Wednesday loves and respects Gomez, but maybe she also thinks he is too open and giving? My word I can't wait till you get to dig into her relationship with Fester.
I have been trying to watch the show for a while and didnt want to put myself in the scenario. Thank you so much for sharing this, I learned so much from your analysis
i love ur videos so muuuuch. it's great to see someone pay attention to those details and see it from a psychological point of view🤍 so excited for this one;)
This was an incredible analysis, I found myself nodding along as you spoke my mind throughout the show. Wednesday is an incredible show, and this video was a joy to watch!
You insights and explanations really resonate with me. Having suffered emotional and physical abuse as a child I see a lot of me in Wednesday but now that im older I have managed to get in touch with my emotional "brain" Can't wait to see your reviews on more episides.
I see her protective traits as very enduring - she displays it at least 3 times during the episode, once or twice with her brother and twice with Rowan. It shows she's not as detached as she wants to pretend.
I enjoy to hear the professional opinion about this iconic character, can you analyze the last episode? It was when you see a huge growth of the character in terms of her emotions
First off, thank you for analyzing this series. While Wednesday and her character development / evolution is intriguing, I am very interested in her impact on others as she develops and they on her. Additionally, I wish you well with you endeavors as any one could create havoc on ones life but both at the same time is daunting in the extreme.
LOVE THIS! really looking forward to re watch this masterpiece with you and your theories plus scientific data/facts behind these characters and their actions.
Honestly, as someone who has loved the dark side/dark humor of The Addams Family, I've found this show one of the most intriguing and well written shows in a long time. Wednesdays character development is so good!
I didn't watch the whole series, but some situations make me think she might be what we called "victim" at school. The bullies can do whatever they want, but the moment a victim fights back in an effective way (read: in a way that the bullies don't laugh their asses off), the victim gets punished (the bullies either don't get punished or don't notice /care) I dealt with it by learning to turn invisible. (I didn't get help, as I wouldn't cooperate. I just couldn't find out on my own, how I provoked the attacks and how to stop it. In hindsight, I think it might have to do with my recent autism diagnosis)
i don't think Wednesday is transforming. Jenna said Wednesday has obsession over this mystery case that most of time she can figure out instantly. the saving people is collateral thing. this is actually similar with her novel, murder mystery novel. and when she said she killed people and feed them to her pets, it's certainly true because as you said Wednesday is honest. also Addams family is capable of killing people (in Wedding Scene in Addams Family Values).
4:52 I’m very strong w this type of empathy. So strong, in fact, that I sometimes have to pause and think “wait, is this my emotion or someone else’s?” But I’m quite weak on the previous one - I’m never entirely sure what is causing a person to feel a certain way or how I can influence their emotions. So sometimes I’ll be talking to someone and I’ll feel their annoyance, and not be sure if it’s because of something I said or because of something else
When you said Wednesday "wants to stay stable and still" - that is exactly how I feel most comfortable. I wan't everything even keel. Stable. No surprises. No stress, It's what I work for. I love it. Where we differ is Wednesday seems like she enjoys conflict, and I avoid it at all costs.
Absolutely love Wednesday ! It turned out really great. 😊 And I love the commentary you’ve given! And congratulations on all the big things coming in your life! Good luck on them all
It's actually pretty interesting, Wednesday only blinks In a few Scenes in the entire season (usually when shes caught off guard) and this is one of them. When the therapist starts taking about how she read some of Wednesday's book Wednesday's not prepared and blinks showing that she's uncomfortable and not ok with it It's very subtle but it add so much to her character
@13:14 Isn't Wednesday's therapy court ordered? As a consequence of her releasing the piranha's in the swimming pool. She can't actually leave the therapy session.
You seemed to never watched Adams Family previously. Your first comment on electro-shock theraphy was like normal person referred to it. She actively shoots a cross bow at her brother when they were younger as common good normal games in their world, and her Uncle can generate electricity in every incarnation (most common trick is the light bulb in his month lighting up.) It is the equivalent someone evaluating an individual without first understanding the cultural background they are from and live in. Evaluated an anime like character Detective Conan, in Japan alot of what the characters due might sense for the time and place of the episode. Apply an American culture lense to everything and it will not line up.
I watched all of it in one night, and I'm half way through re-watching it. I highly suggest that you react to re-watching it as its really different the 2nd time around.
21:11 I too was unsure why she would want to help, at first. Yes, she might be transforming. Or, maybe, she never was entirely insensitive, to begin with - despite her best efforts to make others think otherwise. Then, there's also the fact that she's writing a novel about a detective, so, of course, she should want to take action - not just to save someone else, but, mostly, to be where the action is. And, of course, she's trying to figure out what's the deal with her visions and, right now, she has a golden opportunity learn more, since her vision is supposed to happen right here and right now. It's the best opportunity for her. Then why didn't she help the guy with his apples ? Maybe because she couldn't exactly tail him 24/7 until he decides to look at his smartphone while driving ? Maybe because he was rude to her ?
I started with the first episode and couldn't stop...finished it straight in 5 hours or however long it takes to watch it all without breaks. So engaging and interesting is Wednesday
For all of Wednesday's dark twisted nihilistic bravado, she tends to show that she does have one big fear. And that thing she fears so much is normality. Maybe she thinks she'll lose touch with her own identity by allowing herself to feel and interact like others, thus becoming ordinary. And sure, being a staunch outcast and rebel at heart has allowed her to see things with more depth and intellect than the average person might. But as her mother mentioned, despite her brilliance she tends to get in her own way.
How did you all like the Episode 1 reaction?🖤At the end of the video I explain why I have been gone for a bit on this channel but I am BACK and ready to react to all of Wednesday and soon The Last of Us. 😍 Let me know if you have any questions and thank you for sticking around. 👇
i definitely plan to watch this show! will you continue with Fleabag?
I think I’m not the only one who has grown wary of remakes and revivals, so Wednesday definitely exceeded my expectations!
I’m so glad you’re talking about Wednesday’s psychology!!
Please do the whole season!!
I’d love to hear more about if Wednesday exhibits more of a sociopathic a psychopathic profile. I think most would argue she exhibits more psychopathic traits, but I would VERY MUCH enjoy hearing your professional, nuanced perspective 💜
I am glad to see you back and wish you luck in your endeavours.
Is it wrong if a person falls in love with their therapist?
Asking for a friend.
😍
What do u know about ADHD and heightened emotions? In this case I'm the complete opposite of Wednesday
I binged it in two days, I immediately thought Wednesday is an interesting case study of social interactions, even tho her actions are extreme and sometimes dark, I found myself relating to her a lot, also Jenna Ortega really does the character justice
Completely agree! I’m on episode 2 right now but all the sensitivities and perspectives and interactions with others are veeeery interesting! 🤩
I sat down to watch it with my family not expecting to like it other than the fact that i like the Addams family, and i liked the first episode so much that while they all went to bed after the first episode ended, i stayed up all night just binging the entire show.
@@obocah I watched the entire series twice in one day I liked it that much haha
As a someone who was bullyed, I really enjoyed scene with pool, this is how you have to solve the problem, nothing else works, but yes, they will send you to terapists because it's obviously everything your fault, not fault of people who bully you. 😀 People who bully other kids are actually weak cowards, just hit him into face and problem solved, his friends won't help him becuase he is not cool anymore when you hited him. There is no other way how to solve that, believe me. I was at least lucky that I always had some friend who was big and who guarded me, but when he was not in school in that day, that was problem.
You too?!
12:30: Wednesday's actor's display of anxiety, insecurity, vulnerability and disappointment, is just so spot on. She blinks, for the first time in the series, and her mouth opens slightly. As if the therapist told her she read her diary and wants to talk about it.
I literally missed when she blinks in that part- and I’ve watched the episode twice 💀
Oh my gosh! The one time she blinks and I missed it.
Love this AlleonArts!
The fact that this series can be take apart by therapist so professional like that, only proves how amazing this series is written and acted
Agreed! This was a great video!
What I love about her is her character growth, while still remaining true to herself. Unlike a lot of the other female leads in shows like this, where they start off as one way and then completely and totally change by the end.
Yes
She needs to maintain the same cold energy at least 90% of the time or it won't work
Yesss I think I saw that! Georgia’s analysis? It was great!! She’s great.
Such a great perspective
I knew some people like this in hs. 💗. How have you changed.
Tyler’s actor Is literally 28
And Biancas actor is 27 …..
The monster is entirely based on one of Tim Burton's drawings, so they just took it exactly as it was.
@@JacobNachman6754 thanks for the help
You’ll never find them on social platforms making videos for the general public, they are huge shut ins/hermits and rarely have more then 2 close “friends”
I put friends in quotes because a lot of schizoids mask so their friends don’t typically see them for who they are.
I love this song and definitely mentioned it in the reaction but we cut it out for time 😊
I don't know if you noticed the choice of music that Wednesday played on her cello. It was a classical music version of the Rolling Stone's "Paint it Black". I found it so interesting because it's about a person wanting to turn everything that is colorful in life and paint it black.
"I see a red door
And I want it painted black
No colors anymore
I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by
Dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head
Until my darkness goes..."
"...I wanna see it painted
Painted black
Black as night
Black as coal
I wanna see the sun
Blotted out from the sky
I wanna see it painted, painted, painted
Painted black, yeah"
🖤🖤🎶🎨🖌👩🎨🎻🎶🖤🖤
Wednesday also played Metallica and Fleetwood Mac in ep3
My favorite song when I was a kid... 🖤
She also played the opening to the Elgar cello sonata... One of the pieces Jacqueline duPre was known for playing, before she got MS and could play cello anymore.
@@LydiaFortner hey what's "MS"

The fact that Wednesday rejects social norms, even in groups supposed for outcasts, is why I relate to her so much. I feel the same way about today's goth subculture as she does about Nevermore academy.
Yes I agree. Personally, I have also always ignored or wanted to ignore social norms. I never liked people., always avoided social situations. Also, people call me emo/gothic, so you would think I would feel more comfortable in the goth subculture, but I don't. I'm just as uncomfortable around other "emos/goths" as I am around other people.
😂 yep.
I appreciate your insights. I really enjoyed this series & think Jenna really nailed it.
She's AMAZINGGG! And thank you :)
I don’t think there’s a reason why Wednesday is dark. That’s just a her family dynamic. They always praise her bad behavior. Her mom was even happy at the thought of her husband being a murderer one episode 😂
Haha this is true. I love Wednesday and her darkness. We all have darkness 😉
😂😂
This is me. I experienced severe trauma and abuse (sadistic abuse before age 4 (burned on a stove; zipped up in a duvet and thrown in locked closests/ restraining order against my father and removal from the home; unstable mother; severe emotional abuse; depression (untreated); autism was diagnosed but not addressed (never informed until I was an adult); loss of a twin sister due to complications to my sister's own history with depression due to the same forms of abuse...)
I essentially have issues feeling and processing both negative and positive emotions now.
I feel Weds enjoyment of the pariah feeling is because it empowers her.
Oh yesssss! As someone with ADHD and BPD, I saw it right away. It’s part of what I love about her actually. All of these traits.
yes Wednesday is a very autistic-coded character, Enid and Eugene also seem autistic-coded
Same here.
Except I'd also give her Sociopathy with autism.
Hi Kinsey! Congrats on being a psych student. Good luck on all your studies.
I binged it in 2 days and I’m obsessed with it!! I need season 2 immediately!!
Yeah. I don’t appreciate waiting, either! 😂
I love your program! I have used it to discuss so many aspects of Wednesday from the ethical to psychological. Thanks so much for your work.
I'm very very thankful for your commentary. I always learn so much when i listen to you. Take care of yourself Dr. and all the best in the stuff going on in your life🙏🏿🙌🏿
Thank you Darck!
Yay!!! I’m so excited for this new series
Thank you!!
#MVP
I look forward to you watching through to the end of the season 🎉
Nicolle :)
Intj's and intp's are often autistic and vice versa. Women tend to mask autism better than men do and for that reason and others to be late-diagnosed. Also, see this exchange above. Khadijah Muhammad

Oh yesssss! As someone with ADHD and BPD, I saw it right away. It’s part of what I love about her actually. All of these traits.

I have BPD along with psychosis including visions and am the same personality type as her and I related so heavily to her character that people around me are starting to compare me to her lol. I feel seen for once if I’m being honest…. This show helped me work through some of my own defense mechanisms and negative behaviors. I also have very high cognitive empathy and think in transactions so what you said helped me reflect on my own interactions and relationships. Well done.
Thank you! As someone with BPD as well, thanks for being here.
Thank you 🙏
I have been working on some aspect of the thought paths in this movie. Your angle is truly unique. Keep up the great job. 😀
Head canon: Wednesday grows up to use her perceptive, sensitive and honest nature to become a Therapist. This therapist.
Your dark hair and overall look is like a gorgeous, grown up, happy alternate reality Wednesday and there's something cool about watching this when you have such similar looks!
I love this! Thank you
your analysis is great, it really shows how well the writers know the material. as a long time fan of all of charles addams creations, this show is a great extension of addams world.
I loved your Arcane reactions and so look forward to following you with Wednesday. Thank you for sharing.
I binged the show in a day, so excited for this!!
I plan to dress like her for the finale and the LIVE 😉❤️
Omg, I'm so happy to hear about all the amazing things you're doing at the end, good luck with everything!
Yessss! Thank you. I love this perspective. I appreciate you sharing it!
I’m so happy you are doing these videos! You are all I thought about when binging this show! You both look so alike! Loved the video! ❤
Her heightened perceptivity could also be why she surrounds herself with black, keeps an equilibrium of a less stimulating color around her.
!!!! This is brilliant.
@@the.truth.doctor ❤️
Can’t wait for more! That was a great video! And great insight into the psychology of Wednesday!
As always I appreciate and really enjoy your reaction to the video series. I’ve even shared your channel with my therapist.
Thank you!
I must say I loved your analysis. It helped me understand more the character and why she is so fixed on continuing with that unhealthy behavior for people around her. She fears emotions and how they'd change her.
Keep it up! Good job!
New subscriber here.
Happy that you’re reacting to this series!
I binged on all episodes in 1 day .
I enjoyed your professional analysis. Thanks
I really enjoyed how you are able to pick it apart.
Unfortunately for me, when I was 15, I was involved in a car accident that gave me a TBI. This has resulted in my inability to read people as well as I should. I am now following you because I find your comments to be somewhat therapeutic!
I’m glad they are therapeutic for you! Happy you’re here :)
I'm so glad that I can say right here that this psychoanalyst is so right on and groovy! Where do you find such an intelligent person?
watched this, immediately subscribed! Love the knowledge shared :)
It shows she's not as detached as she wants to pretend.
and she almost always stands up for the weaker side...
I enjoy to hear the professional opinion about this iconic character, can you analyze the last episode? It was when you see a huge growth of the character in terms of her emotions
Great content! Good luck with the IVF treatment as well as all your projects! 😊
Thank you, you turned me on to this show. It is my kind of humor. I like them using Mel Renolds line from Fire fly " We all die alone." nice.
I love how Wednesday is playing paint it black on the Cello. Rather fitting song for her.
First off, thank you for analyzing this series. While Wednesday and her character development / evolution is intriguing, I am very interested in her impact on others as she develops and they on her. Additionally, I wish you well with you endeavors as any one could create havoc on ones life but both at the same time is daunting in the extreme.
Thank you so much and you’re welcome 🙏🏼
LOVE THIS! really looking forward to re watch this masterpiece with you and your theories plus scientific data/facts behind these characters and their actions.
Honestly, as someone who has loved the dark side/dark humor of The Addams Family, I've found this show one of the most intriguing and well written shows in a long time. Wednesdays character development is so good!
I'm really excited for u to make a series out of this!!!!
This therapist is awesome~~She explained Wednesday's personality so perfectly~~Loved this~~😆😆😆
I didn't watch the whole series, but some situations make me think she might be what we called "victim" at school.
The bullies can do whatever they want, but the moment a victim fights back in an effective way (read: in a way that the bullies don't laugh their asses off), the victim gets punished (the bullies either don't get punished or don't notice /care)
I dealt with it by learning to turn invisible.
I was going to say this I also heard her saying this that she was curious that's why she followed rowan
Wow. I just subscribed to your channel. I didn't watch this show but I am into psychology and I loved your reaction and thoughts.
These are awesome! If you take suggestions I would watch “The Wilds”…..tons to unpack there!
Absolutely love Wednesday ! It turned out really great. 😊
And I love the commentary you’ve given!
And congratulations on all the big things coming in your life! Good luck on them all
She never blinks.....except during her 1st therapy session.
It's actually pretty interesting, Wednesday only blinks In a few Scenes in the entire season (usually when shes caught off guard) and this is one of them. When the therapist starts taking about how she read some of Wednesday's book
Wednesday's not prepared and blinks showing that she's uncomfortable and not ok with it
It's very subtle but it add so much to her character
Fun & insightful analysis of Wednesday. i love this series.
So excited for you to react to this
This is SOOO cool, gives a whole new lense to the show. I got a lot of it but having a professionals perspective is much more interesting. Subscribed
Thank you Sith Lord!
Interesting analysis. Also thanks for pointing out a few things I missed, subscribed.
I watched all of it in one night, and I'm half way through re-watching it. I highly suggest that you react to re-watching it as its really different the 2nd time around.
The second the therapist said “we’re not done yet.” I already knew that it wasn’t going to be good therapy
Watching these one at a time so I can react is so hard!! Haha
More than 8 hours lol 😂
So, I'm just gonna say, 1. I loved the show. 2. I really like this breakdown and 3. I feel very read. Lol. 4. I'm looking forward to more.
loved the series, i am very looking forward to your covering this
I loved it, then I was into goth culture was I was younger and this is lovely. I need a season two.
This is really fun. I learned so much about different types of empathy. Thank you.
I love this!!! Just finished the Season
Love it! I wondered how an actual therapist irl would study Wednesday
