How To Build Sawhorses Japanese Inspired Woodworking
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 вер 2019
- I got tired of those flimsy plastic sawhorses bouncing around when trying to work on them and no really good way to clamp anything down to them. So I built this pair of Sawhorses. The joinery and overall style was inspired by a lot of Japanese woodworking and architecture.

Lol, "round tenons are just dumb." Perfect for a t-shirt or sticker!
Wow lots of machinery !!!!😋😋😋
Very nice workmanship, thanks
Really nice work!
Amazing.....
..... that you still have all your fingers!
great video thanks for sharing
i like that this can use a holdfast
and i love this design...it could be a coffee table...or and end table...or a desk...sides of a shelf...just a matter of changing a few measurments
pretty cool there Mr. B.
Excellent job!!! Agreed squared tenons look better 👍😁
Love them awsomme job😎
Very nice brian! And I totally agree... square tenons look way better than round tenons!!100%.;)
Beautiful! 🔥🔥🔥💪💪💪🖖
I can't believe you're going to be taking those out to job sites, they're to beutiful!!!!! Nicest saw horses I've ever seen! 🙂👍👍👍👍👍
@@Benham_Design but, doesn't she realise how beutiful they are? She has valid bragging rights to say she has some fine art/joinery in her house......... with propper square tenon's!!!
@@Benham_Design you could put some wood across the top as a cunning disguise.......... 🤔😆
@@Benham_Design lol
Too good for a workshop / site Brian, I'd be frightened about damaging them :) Mine are 2 X 4s Screwed together. But they would hold up the Sydney harbour bridge
If you use a 1/2" diameter bit, you just use a 1/4" round over bit on the tenon, and then just use the chisel to round up the bits next to the shoulder. The day i started doing that my life changed. You may not like it but the fit is truly perfect. No more bruised, imperfect corners
really well done. Clear and deliberate instructions. BTW, clean up your shop dude. Great job. George Nakashima book was a nice touch.
Thank you for an excellent instructional carpentry video, that is easy to learn from.
Awesome! I totally agree about Square tenons if they are through tenons. Question: Why did you have to make the bottom feet through mortises If they wouldn't be seen? Couldn't you have just stopped when your bit bottomed out, and pegged the tenons?
Hard Maple! Whoo-Boy, that's some expensive saw horses
Weirdly enough, in my area hard maple is not too badly priced, but if I were to build it again, I'd use cherry. They are stupid heavy and are just too hard.
@@Benham_Design That's pretty sweet. You must live up north. Down here in Tennessee that would be a $200 sawhorse (that's Woodcraft's prices). Pine is pretty much my go-to.
Excelente!👍, gracias a tu video inspirado
I have to agree, square rather than round :^)
Speed dating: "do you like square or round tenons?" .... NEXTTTTT
Beautiful saw horses. There’s definitely a t-shirt idea in there
“ I like my tenons to be square just sayin “ Lmao Take Care
Is that Kings Lignum Vitae thors hammer?
‘Heigth’ is not a word
Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Note to self, don't invite this dude to party, as the more beer the more abstract other language gets
👍💡
Parabéns (congratulations). Brasil.
I agree square tenons look better
“Wedges with round edges” lol
Great video! I bought your plans but I think at least one of the measurements in the cut list are wrong and contradicted by the schematics. For example the base cut is listed as 1 1/2" thick, but the drawing clearly shows it's 3" - maybe need to double check the others as well?
I mean like…. Surely you figured it out in the past year but in the video he clearly shows himself laminating two pieces together for the base
@14:40 your bandsaw fence is having a seizure lol
Haha Round tenons are dumb. I'm happy someone said it! They scream production made and don't look good at all.
If you cut off a foot, you can elevate your legs until the paramedics arrive.
Reading upside down?
@@Benham_Design I live in Australia. Everything is upside down here.
I have a pair of those shoes. They’re my secret to staying single.
Sorry you don't get laid😔
@@Benham_Design nice sawhorses btw!
Y not just round the tenons?
Just messing with you
What is this "Heith" you speak of?
"Looks good for a square tenon." Too friggin' funny. Just when you think there cannot possibly be something left to say, or a comment to be made...
@@Benham_Design I definitely should not. For the preservation of the remaining faith I have in humanity I should never see that. You are a better man than me. Nice work, pal.
I too think round tenons are dumb. Not as dumb as wasting a bunch of time building a jig to cut 4 mortises when u could've hand cut them with a pig sticker and paring chisel in half that time. That and adding an "h" to the end of the word "heighT" with a "T" not "th" good for you not good for me
Not truly Japanese inspired - you used artificial glue! Akamatsu. Hinoki. None of these include bottled adhesive! Fail!
Why are Americans so scared of hand tools?
Brian Benham 95% of your video is tablesaw router and bandsaw. It’s more woodwork machinist than hand joinery.
Brian Benham just saying it how I see it. Don’t be so tetchy. Check out Paul Sellers if you want some tips on real woodworking rather than machining. There's an e in jerk btw.
