I love this story. The thing that stands out to me the most though is this theme of faith and how the resolution ties into that. In the end, it not a belief in a God or the Devil or anything like that that saves the day. It's the Doctor's faith in Rose. Even if he knows logically that she couldn't survive, he knows exactly what choice she would want him to make. And I love that. People have always been so obsessed with the fact that the Doctor never explicitly said, "I love you," but it was all right on display in this episode. Him essentially saying, "I refuse to accept the idea that Rose is a victim and choose to believe in her, so eff you, Satan," is the most romantic thing I've ever heard. It's just a shame she wasn't around to hear that.
Although it is a very triumphant end to a magnificent story, there was something quite sorrowful about it for me - you can tell it was there last scene, but I think it adds to their ending moment.
The fact that the soundtrack under this scene is the same as the beach scene when the Doctor fades saying; "Rose Tyler...". This is both heartbreaking but also heartwarming in a way.

The Cloister Bell could be when a weakned Beast/Sutekh entered the TARDIS and began "seducing" it growing in power all this time, with the Doctor not noticing as he didn't even bother noticing the Cloister Bell as he was so blinded by the beeps indicating safety.
He only had time to move the TARDIS to Ida's location and pick her up. There wasn't enough time to then go to where the Ood were, pick them up and get away again before the planet fell into the black hole. Some people might say that he could have gone back in time a few minutes after picking up Ida to create enough time to get the Ood too but I suspect there would have been problems due to the effects of the black hole and ths fact that there would be two identical TARDIS's and two of the same incarnation of the Doctor on the planet at the same time.
@@ivaneames4354 They've stated in an earlier doctor who episode that once the Tardis lands, the doctor becomes part of current events in is either unable to go to a different timeline or is strictly against it because of the Timelord's rules of time. It's basically the writer's get out of jail free card when it comes to fans asking them why the doctor doesn't just constantly go back in time and undo every episode and save everyone.
Fun fact: this episode was the last in production of Season 2 so this was initially the last scene that Billie Piper shot as Rose Tyler before Season 4.
It hurts so much to see what they turned this show into nowadays. I cant tell you how much I used to love it when these two were the main characters and had good writing.

Absolutely! Piper and Tennant were tremendous as the Doctor and his companion! Easily my favourite pairing alongside Capaldi and Coleman.
My favourite too, I hope David and Billie will reunite on Doctor Who one day.

Also, in 'The Impossible Planet' the Doctor says that even time cannot escape a black hole, giving the Doctor only the chance to rescue Ida.
