- Dylan Hopkins and myself explore the story of Swansea Jack.
Due to William Thomas (Swansea Jack’s owner) being illiterate, there are very few official accounts. Therefore some stories may differ to what you may have heard, as most of them have been passed down generation to generation.

Absolutely outstanding - the fantastic story of Swansea Jack brought to life - well presented, scripted, shot, edited with a pleasant, appropriate well composed underscore of music - Very professional and broadcast quality.
As a Swansea native I feel Jack’s story has been retold here very engagingly, he truly was a special dog.

‘Swansea Jack’
a poem by Derek Davies.
Of all the stories I’ve been told
the one that captures me most,
Is the story of a local dog
rescuing lives there on our coast.
One loving pet
a Newfoundland dog
his coat lay shining black,
a retriever with a special name,
and that name was Swansea Jack.
That dog became a hero
helping people that were to drown,
twenty seven souls he saved
from the waters of old Swansea town.
Brave and fearless, strong and bold
this dog was one to treasure,
famous throughout our city
saving lives there at his leisure.
This story is one of local pride
those people know him best,
Champion of the city
now laid down to rest.
His stone lays near the footpath
on the seafront of our past,
this legend lives with me forever
and forever may it last.
The dog that saved so many lives
his coat lay shining black,
forever in our memories
forever Swansea Jack.
Lovely poem, thank you for sharing! :)
@@gregballantine that’s ok Greg.. Nice story read well
Amazing shot guys. Awesome job
Thank you Ashley!
There are instances of the term Swansea Jack being used before the dog. Suspected to be from Jack Tar... a sailor. But, nice presentation.
Muito triste a maldade humana de ter assasinado um cão heroi entre outros
Very sad
As an international student studying in swansea university, it’s a really beautiful tale of a legendary retriever that once lived in this very city. Feeling proud to study in Swansea🦢🌿
Thank you for your comment, you picked a good university, all the best with you studies :)
