Living with Coeliac Disease
Переглядів 1118 місяців тому
Coeliac Disease affects 1 in 100 people in the UK. May is Coeliac Awareness month so I thought it was a good time to re-share my story. This is a video I made during 2020 with BBC Sesh. This year will be 12 years for me knowing I am a Coeliac. When I was 14 I was loosing weight fast and weighing under 6 stone at my worst point. I was constantly cold and I had no energy. Myself and people around...

60's Swansea with Paulette Pelosi
Переглядів 1,2 тис.Рік тому
Hello and welcome back to my channel! In this video I interview Paulette Pelosi, a Welsh Italian who lived at Dillwyn Cafe on Dillwyn street Swansea during the 60's and has plenty to share about Swansea City's past. I asked her about her Italian heritage and what 60's Swansea used to be like. For me, these stories are so important to record so we can share memories and experiences forever. I'll...

Hello and welcome back to my channel! In my latest video I ask the ultimate gluten free question… 'What is the nicest Gluten Free bread?' My brother Sam and I try four different gluten free loaves and discuss which one is our favourite. I also talk about the best ways to save money on gluten free bread as it’s not the cheapest! As a Coeliac myself I think it's important to share my experiences ...

What is the nicest Gluten Free Lager?
this is brilliant to watch! I was diagnosed with coeliac disease in May 2024, I am also type 1 diabetic and they go hand in hand together, but must have had all the coeliac symptoms for over a year without realising like really low iron levels, exhausted etc (I was also loving losing weight without trying!). I was never a big bread eater anyway, but I like the Genius and Promise (but the brown version of Promise). I agree it’s better to butter 🧈 if it’s toasted! It’s nice being able to eat a sandwich 🥪 again without feeling bloated and sick. I thought it was normal to feel unwell after bread or pasta 🍝 etc… it was the gluten that was issue! xxx
Promise is best. Plus Promise do a huge range. White, Brown, Multigrain & Quinoa / Chia. Also Promise is cruelty free bread, where they don't use egg. Egg? Yes egg is produced by throwing little yellow male chicks into large blenders alive on their first day of birth as waste products in hatcheries.
Great video review lads! I recently had been sick all the time after eating certain foods it had been going on for a year, bloating, pains in the stomach the works and feeling awful! Stopped eaten gluten products and hay "Presto" no more side affets, but was looking for this kind of video and honest review from decent people so very much!
Hi Spencer, thank you for your kind comment! It’s never easy when you find out you’re better on a gluten free diet, I’m glad this video has helped you, always got ideas for new Gluten Free content so watch this space! Thank you again, Greg :)
@@gregballantine No problem Greg, it was my pleasure in responce to gaining new knowlege from both you and your channel to being able to live a normal life the differences are night and day!
good job nice video
Thank you for you kind comment :)
james come india good vlogs for you''''''' you know me
Jack Evans from Morriston used this service to travel to High Street. He worked in a Joinery works on the riverside oppostite the old R&SB station.
There was also High Street via Llandore Low Level to Morriston > Up the bank to the Swansea Avoiding Line, Cwrt Sart, Briton Ferry. The Diesel Parcels unit to Cardiff used to run via this route
Thank you for your comment Roland, amazing to hear about all the routes that once existed, Best wishes, Greg
Ay one time Swansea had 6 termini. East Dock Vale of Neath. Riverside Rhondda and Swansea Bay. St Thomas Midland Railway. Victoria London and North Wester. Rutland Street Mumbles Railway and High Street GWR,
Thank you for your comment Roland :)
Hi Greg love your videos you deserve more subs keep up the good work and keep uploading videos
Hi Nigel, thank you for your kind comment and for watching my videos! I’m always planning new content so keep an eye out :)
Thanks to you Paulette, and thanks to you greg. Born and bred in the Swansea area, and passionate about my city as every Jack should be. Change for the better will only begin in the hearts and soul of it's community, it's not up to Swansea city Council. Many thanks to all the Italians who blessed us with their presence. Still to this day, i frequent the Italian cafe's of Swansea city centre 😊
Thank you for your kind comment! Swansea is full of passion and talented people, I believe the future is bright, long live the Italian cafes and ice cream parlours :) Greg
@@gregballantine well said ❤
Conductors would supply tickets to the queue at Rutland Street and sometimes 4 collecting fares on the train. Sid was a regular conductor on 76 & 78 Busses. On Saturdays and Bank holidays he would be doing overtime on the Mumbles RAILWAY.
The South Wales Transport Company also 'cooked the books'.
If it was running Today it would have millions of travellers PA. THEY ARE NOT TRAMS. All the drivers were members of the National Union of Railwaymen. Wh9th all the perks that that brings. Concessionary fares to travel of the UK Network.
Forte's ice cream doesn't taste the same as it did in the 70s and 80s!
Love the gower, 80s it use to be so lively
I live in California, but am from Pwll, on the other side of the estuary. The video is so hiraethus.
Hi Philip, thank you for your kind comment, I really appreciate it, diolch yn fawr iawn
Great to see more Gower history, we may have to explore that area next time we visit.
Thank you Andy! I would definitely recommend next time you’re down :)
Outstandingly brilliant as usual
Thank you Peter! Always very grateful.
Thanks Greg, really enjoy these local history videos as a local lad myself. Really well presented too. Keep up the excellent work.
Thank you Tony, I really appreciate it. Comments like yours really motivates me, thank you!
great little clip. well done
Beautiful!
took it to school every day
Great little video, Paulette Pelosi is wholly correct when she mentions looking up at the top floors of the buildings around the city to discover their history.
Thank you Andy for your comment, I couldn’t agree more! You can learn so much when you look up to the top floors, thank you for watching
How can I get visa
Well done gents a lovely well presented video of our beloved Swansea Jack. Forever in our hearts.
Thank you for your kind comment Alan!
Love it 😍😍 place looks amazing!!
Beautiful! 🤩
Can I ask please. At some point you had malabsorption . How long did your villi come back to life? I just found out that I am coelic and I am losing weight. Thank you.
Hello and thank you for your comment. For me personally, once I cut Gluten out of my diet it was quite rapid how quickly everything got better. It was almost instant. It may vary between people but for me it was a very quick recovery! Hope this helps :)
@@gregballantine Thank you. I am still struggling with diarrhea and anemia though I have up gluten. Is very frustrating since I started having insomnia anxiety and depression due to Celiac. Very frustrating. Can I also ask. How do you manage to drink gluten removed beer without any problems. I tried it as well and had diarrhea for two days. Thank you very much.
I totally relate to your experience. 😢
Do you do lime and lager with your gluten free lager beers?
Hello and thank you for your comment, I tend not to but I’m sure some people do :)
Hi Greg. I've just subscribed to your channel. I am impressed with your presentation skills on this video, and on other videos that you have hosted. I am actually old enough to recall the grand old days when Fortes was still located in the Dunns. My parents use to take my brother and I there as a special treat back in the 1960s. We actually know each other as my son is called Greg and my family and I are regular customers at Fortes so we have spoken several times in the past. Great video my friend!
Hi David. Thank you for your kind comment! :) and thank you for subscribing, it’s great to connect! Of course I remember you and your family at Forte’s! So much history around the business and I loved working there. Hope you’ve been keeping well and say hi to Greg! Speak soon and best wishes, Greg

As a Swansea native I feel Jack’s story has been retold here very engagingly, he truly was a special dog.
Thank you Jake for your comment. He was a true ledge and a very special dog.
Fantastic piece of art
😮
Where do you find the old photographs is there a website?
Hi Oli, thank you for your comment - The photographs were for Lucia, the owner of Forte’s.
I think this is what is happening to me, my family around is on a good weight, except me, I have been struggling for 1.5 years, I cannot get weight, I'm stuck on 58kg, my height is 1.75. I have like allergic on my skin, My abs hurts a bit during the dawn, I'm a bit irritable, I drink water with sodium, potasium, magnesium, I do sunbathing, I walk. I tried to sleep early, but is not helping me. At this point I guess I have Coeliac Disease? I remember years later I was good on my weight, but suddenly I cannot get to my proper weight which is 68-69 kg. Also I'm having hard time to focus, to learn, and Struggled to talk. Plus a lot of ADHD. Do you think I can get a blood test and find out if have Coeliac? or Celiac? Sorry for my poor grammar
Hello and thank you for your comment. I’m sorry to hear about your symptoms, there is no harm at all in getting a blood test for Coeliac Disease, if it comes out positive a lot of your questions will be answered. Just make sure if you do have a blood test you have eaten some gluten leading up to the test, otherwise you could get a false result. I hope you solve your symptoms soon and wishing you all the best, Greg
thanks. amazing editing~ have a good day-
Thank you, you too!
Looks awesome! Ill have to try this one! Im new to gluten free and trying to get my head around it! 100% agree with the toasting gluten free bread on your other video! 😃👍
Thank you for your comment! It’s never easy at the beginning but soon you learn the best ways around being gluten free! Toasting is a massive tip 😃
He really just said "you should travel to Copenhagen cause from Copenhagen you can travel to Sweden" 😂

Beutiful
When I visited Malmö I was not old enough to legally buy any alcohol stronger than 3.5% so I got the train over to Copenhagen and bought something stronger. Absolutely worth the visit.
I’m sold, is it 10s only season out there?
I remember it and rode on it but I was very young so when it was scrapped it didn't really affect me but as an adult I wish it had been saved
Brings back memories for me being born in Swansea in1953 a very enjoyable interview Swansea was really busy in the sixties and a great music scene thank you
Thank you for your comment, I’m glad you enjoyed the interview :) Greg
I was born 1942 .very evocative I am a semi retired pianist
Remember Dillwyn and Union cafes
I remember it well. It was a key part of the Black Pill - Mumbles adventure for us children.
Greg, you have been through a struggle. I hope you are well now. Did you know there is a connection between gluten and dairy? And also eggs do not improve our body as they are food for viruses that infect us. Also other grains have gliadin, a different type of gluten. I always feel better when off all grains, and also off dairy and eggs. Wishing you improved health.
Thank you for your comment, I didn’t know of a connection, I must admit living on a gluten free diet I feel you’re more likely to want dairy to make up for the lack of Gluten. It’s never easy working out what to eat when having coeliac disease, it’s great to hear your comments and other suggestions, thank you again :) Greg
Swansea is dead
What we call Living and Dieing are part of the same process, not separate events. So long as there are people, human beings in the Swansea area, life will continue. There is no such thing as death, if it were, you yourself wouldn't even exist. Chin up mucka mush
