  • This video is where I go through 3d printing Warhammer 40k wargaming terrain that was originally designed for FDM printers. ‪@saucermen_studios‬ was kind enough to send out a few of their designs for me to show off in this video.
    Throughout the video, I talk about how I got around some printing fails of my own doing and triumphs as well.

    I printed a bunch of terrain from corvus recently that's meant to be support free for fdm printers. After messing around and supporting a couple of building myself and having warping issues I decided to try the fuck it method and just print them flat on the build plate like intended for fdm and they turned out a treat. Except a few little areas above doorways and windows that needed a bit of a clean up.
    Edit: as for iso not sure where you're located but if you're in Sydney try Sydney solvents (or they might deliver outside of Sydney)
    I paid $24 + 10 delivery for 5 liters of 100% isopropyl.

      Thanks for commenting @zero-production-value , I have seen others put it flat on the build plate and do well. For me the settings I use from a friend to print minis faster makes the first few layers stick really well so I was worried about it welding to the build plate lol. I am in S.A so I usually head over to Bunnings but their ISO is around $25+ per liter compared to $20 for 4 liters of Methylated spirits.
      I will try and look around some more because ISO is really good for other things apart from resin printing, such as cleaning screens while methylated spirits will tend to make things a little cloudy. But $24 for 5 liters of iso is a really damn good price, will have to see if they deliver interstate.

    This turned out really nicely. I have and aging FDM printer. Would love to see my terrain in a modern FDM or Resin like that. Thank you for making this video.

    Awesome - I have a Saturn 3 ultra on the way, and was planning on printing some of these exact Saucermen sets. You've just saved me a failed print because I would have 100% have tried to do this the way you did in your first attempt, thanks!

    Is there a way to limiting the lines? There were some really big thick gaps and lines here and there... I want to get into 3D printing but that drives me nuts and the 3D printed things I have bought required a ton of sanding to the point details get eaten...

    • @NatesMiniatures
      @NatesMiniatures  9 місяців тому +2

      For this print I had a very quick profile usually meant for miniatures. So it had some lines, but if it was not a time restraint I would just up the quality but that also ups the print time from say 4 hours to 9 hours or longer.
      Most companies print terrain with fdm printers that can leave a lot of heavy layer lines.
      So I would say a big resin printer at the highest quality layer height is what you are looking for. Resin is not as strong as fdm prints though so a bit of a trade off.

      @@NatesMiniatures Nifty! That and the ventilation of VOCs have been my main hang ups so far, I know how to build a heat exchange ventilation unit so I can fix that issue pertty easy and get the rest of the way with some PPE!

    • @NatesMiniatures
      @NatesMiniatures  9 місяців тому +2

      @@ErgonomicChair I will always advocate for all the PPE!. venting the VOC's can be as simple as a door open or window with the fan circulating the air out of the room. Obviously being able to have a vent with suction is great ^_^. I am wanting to also buy myself a air purifier just as an extra bit of safety.
