    Great tip with the ears at 8:10. I have seen a couple of your videos now. I like the small descriptions of what you do. And you are so sweet to the dogs - and calm :)

    This was such a great tutorial! I know this video is pretty old but maybe you’re still around to answer my question or point me to a video that answers it. I’m an at home groomer just doing my dog so sorry if this is common knowledge. When you’re setting the length and shape for the sides of the head and muzzle, do you cut it with the hair laying down or sticking out? If you cut it while it’s laying down like normal, you end up with longer layers at the top of the head and getting shorter as you go down. And if you cut it while it’s all sticking out, you’d end up with the hair being the same-ish length for the most part all over. I hope I was able to explain it in a way that it makes sense.
    P.S. This is for a doodle with somewhere between a wavy and curly coat.

    Hi, I groomed Bichon Frise’s for about 30 years, show and pet, also taught people to groom. You have a good basic knowledge of the breed’s head, but I have a couple of tips if you are interested.
    1) the feathering you must do with thinning shears would not be necessary if you didn’t bounce your scissor hand up and down as you cut. Keep a sliding motion instead of coming and going at the coat with the scissors in the cutting hand.
    2) the pet owner may prefer the look you give him but a bichon’s ears should actually be part of the head and should be trimmed as part of the circle. Not as you have there - poodle ears on a bichon head.
    Balance is achieved by having the top of the head the same length as the beard, then go around making the circle and including the ears.
    I hope I have not offended you and have explained myself in terms you understand. It is so much easier to show someone than it is to write the description. Cheers.

    • @LoveofGrooming
      @LoveofGrooming  6 років тому +1

      Oh, I know, lol, this is not a Bichon. Its a Poodle cross maltese. Most pet Bichon owners want long ears so I can't do the proper head on them. Its not my dog so I do what they want. I wish I had Bichons that wanted a proper head. I am comfortable with the holding my shears like this and do use as you mentioned and have different techniques, thanks. No offence taken.

    My dog consistently pokes her tongue out when I'm doing around her mouth. I put my finger in front of her nose and hold her mouth shut but she can somehow still get the tip out. Do you have any suggestions?

    • @LoveofGrooming
      @LoveofGrooming  5 років тому

      It can be challenging when they keep sticking out their tongue. Keep holding her mouth shut when doing her face. You should be able to feel when she will stick her tongue out while holding her nose. Give praise when she does not stick her tongue out. Make sure you are relaxed and have no distractions but sometimes unfortunately they may always stick out their tongue.

    I do like your videos very much thank you for them. If I can make a suggestion when clipping a light dog it may be best to put a dark background so the view is can see better and even as you're cutting you would be able to judge better. I trim my toy poodle who is black and white and I have to put a background behind area that I'm cutting as in putting a light background where his black top knot is and so on. Again thank you for your videos.

    If that's a Bichon, the ears must be part of the round head. No Poodle hanging ears. That should be a Class 5 felony, and give you a term of imprisonment of not less than one year and a fine of $2,500.

    • @LoveofGrooming
      @LoveofGrooming  4 роки тому

      Hope your joking. It is a bichon and it's a pet and they can have any style that they want unless they are showing the dog but I can tell you don't know that and you must be fined $5,000
