Interesting vid, there was a decent amount I agreed with, main part I'm not a fan of it u talking about how to "get the same feel" with higher deadzones as you're effectively adding trading input delay for more consistent square flips - that's given that u don't use any third party software to counter the inner deadzone issues with an anti-deadzone. I like the third party compromises tho, only thing I wish we could tell is how much input delay those software's give. Another thing I wish u covered is how Aerial sens effected base air roll ramp up times - so having 10 sense would lessen the benefits of base air roll over directional as u can temper your air roll speeds using your thumbstick (no need for a trigger). But I guess it veers off from the initial aim of the vid
🙌 ye its definetly not entirely "the same feel" its just to counter the input delay I guess. But wdym by ramp up times with free airroll btw? Like, how fast it is to get the full outer input on the stick?
As someone who doesn’t want to go the full freestyle route but instead wants to go for clips in competitive, I’ve noticed that high deadzones are a bit difficult for me to play with in GC1-GC2. Does anyone have any recommendations for “comp-clipping” settings that will still allow a decent bit of movement, but the ability to perform stalls, maktuf’s, etc. with enough practice? Amazing guide by the way, very detailed and well organized!
Honestly what I've been doing as a C3-GC1 (take with a grain of salt because I'm very preliminary with freestyle practice) is playing at my normal settings in comp (0.07 deadzone and unchanged sens like 1.6 I think) and then if I want to practice freestyle mechanics in freeplay or training packs then I raise my deadzone to 0.20 and keep my sens still at 1.6. It seems to help a lot with being more precise with my flip cancels. As for stalls, I have it bound to 1 button through a trick that allows me to perform it 100% of the time with 0.07 deadzone, but I can't consistently stall normally unless I raise my deadzone to 0.3 so the trick helps a lot with that. I practice both methods just incase the 1 button trick ever gets patched. I think ideally getting used to moving your deadzone up and down a lot and becoming consistent throughout spectrums will only help us to become better players.
@@TheBobFishi thought the opposite, if you change your deadzone too much you have no muscle memory and you never get consistent. i’ve been changing it a lot recently and i’m going through a phase where i’m playing terribly
The thing is wit h controller I cant consistently stall unlike people on keyboard and mouse and thats because at certain angles I accidentally side flip, I found increasing the deadzone to .80 helps a bit but I still do this.
idk if it’s just me but xbox controller seems to be more consistent at lower deadzones. Dual sense had me needing a higher sens if i wanted to freestyle. I’m able to stall pretty easy on 0.05 deadzone on xbox controller.

hey mag great video, i'm used to freestyle with the slower car, i play with ds4 and i changed everything exactly as you said, do you have any tips on what i can do? Or should I try to get used to it again?
As long as you can flip consistently and move with no over shoot or u dershooting of the car. You are good to go to start learning with those settings. If u feel a little too slow just increase ur aerial sens or decrease ur deadzone enough
Great video man, I am learning from you a lot. I really want to be good at this game and I really want to be a freestyle and your videos are helping me, thanks for share. If you have a video explaining layouts keybinds for freestyle I will love to watch it, please share the link. **One thing I want to add is, for those who are using ds4 to have square dz, the dz settings from ds4 will interfere with dz settings in RL, you guys may need to increase your dz settings in RL or increase dz settings on ds4, otherwise your stick will start drifting losing control of car. I hope this help.
You know you topic, no question. To me it feels normal to call the cross deadzone a deadzone, because it's where your stick is considered dead. But technically I don't feel there's such a thing as square deadzone, as it shows the shape of the input zone. I'd call it something else, a square input zone, or square zone idk. I'm sorry for the bother if I this comment has been made many times.
@@manuelpellizzari8540 I see what you mean. Its actually just called a deadzone shape according to all the input configurators. So I just call it like so. Otherwise ye, what you say makes more sense.
I don’t know if someone asked this jet but my question is if you would recommend square deadzone for more consistent flicking and for someone who is gc player and wants to go on grind in 1s and go for ssl?

Great tutorial, I switched to square deadzone and tweaked some sensitivity settings and my double resets and double reset mustys etc got a lot more consistent and I hit 95/100 stalls instead of missing 95/100 XD

It’s not just the stick input, it’s all button presses. You would think it would be a popular comment😅
Not really U just gotta learn how to balance it out like I said with good sens. But its not super noticeable I think its mostly placebo because the feeling changes a lot
@@Maktuf I’m a firm believer that you can get used to anything when it comes to these kind of settings just like you can get used to playing on a lower refresh rate monitor or lower FPS hardware.. but your actions are still going to be delayed… When I first played rocket league in 2020, I noticed the steam mapping causing an input delay. Maktuf i Need help pls When I put the Square deadzone it doesn't work (I do it from steam). I installed with bakkesmod a thing that shows you the deadzone which is the one you use in the video and when I try I get the standard deadzone
I'm confused because I'm only looking into custom deadzones now and i wanted to copy some settings of yours to try it out in good conditions, but the thing is i learnt to play high mechanics with round deadzone and custom response curve of 284, instinctively I found it to be more effective but i've been stuck lately not being consistent on high level mechanics, im also transitioning to new camera settings but you say to go as high as possible until you reach linear? Isn't linear just the default? I understand the logic of wanting to make it slower at the center and faster to the sides, but with the opposite you can move a lot faster I find, however I really struggle with lining up shots precisely. i've been using too much tornado flying for my own good lol. But wha do you think of above linear curve? Sure it makes higher sense harder to control but it makes ~5 sens super responsive and still accurate somewhat? I just need to get more accurate though I think the controls are hindering from my peak.
Id rather not mess with customs curves that way. With an agressive curve you get faster but really its much better if you do that exact thing with aerial sens ingame, making the sensitivity around the center faster. You will find urself with a lot of placebo issues if u, one day want to switch, or if one day u cant use that setting
Maybe if i could get square deadzone i would do it but my steam doesnt even give me the chanse to select square deadzone i want to switch but it wont work
Yes of course if you want to do the things I do in competitive. Otherwise you can go with lower deadzones There are no downsides other than relying a bit more on timing instead of small adjustments
Maktuf, if I have a controller that is calibrated in steam settings, what does increasing or decreasing the controller dead zone in game do to calibration settings? I’m experiencing heavy car it seems and I can’t figure out what to do please sir
Probably the lower the better Although I also recommend a little bit of a higher deadzone just because not everyone can buy 3 controllers a month once there is a little stick drift
@@Maktuf thanks for the answer, well I use a Dual sense edge controller can change sticks for 20€ if needed, personally I use 0.07 Deadzone ds4windows 0.90 maxzone 0.18 antideadzone, its normally not Bad quite good but I feel like I cant do some freestyle stuff due to its stiff feeling or sonetimes to fast no control I tried Linear and enhanced presicion with enhanced p. I'm on xbox and really close to hitting heli stalls and multiple flip resets. I feel like if I had a pc and square deadzone I'd be able to hit them so much easier. How much are console players limited in their ability to perform sick freestyles consistently?? Please answer.
Check it out in the square deadzone video There I explain quickly how to cancel with cross deadzone It could be ur sens or even ur controller. Ull maybe wanna consider using 10 sens
I have a crappy pc but it's good enough to run RL lol. I made the switch to square deadzone and didn't take long to get used to it. The thumbstick sensitivities to a loooooong time to figure out. I like stalling consistently but can't play competitively with a big deadzone. My strength is ground ball control, but freestyling is so much fun. I'm getting good at doing 360 maktufs finally. Thanks for all your videos. @@Maktuf
@@Maktuf i understand i was about half way through and commented this right as you went through it but i still wanted to say something about it😁 my apologies
you can watch my square deadzone tutorial I recommend adding Epic as a non steam game, launching Epic through steam and using steam square deadzone. But ds4 is also really good Ill upload tomorrow or saturday a cancels tutorial
Im pretty sure its not Circle is the same as cross. Circle just doesnt reach the sides as much as cross does. You cannot do cancels to the sides on circle deadzone
@@Maktuf Nahh if you have a brand new account its circle, you can even test it if you want. You also said circle is the same as cross and then you said you cant flip cancel as well... which makes it different.
@@Maktuf When using circle it feels like you have input lag on the ground while the air feels so much better than aerialing with cross. Try bounce dribbling with cross its a diff game.
so i see this and i am unsure of what i should do for my deadzones and stuff because i already play RL with steering and ariel sensitivity at max or 10 and for me lowering those values actually effects me negatively so i am kind of unsure of where to go for the deadzone any ideas?
if I use the dead zone cross what maximum output can I set in the steam settings because the higher it is the more it is a circle deadzone, but too low it becomes a square deadzone
I dont think thats how it works with maximum output That setting only changes how far u need to go with the stick to reach maximum output, but it does not change the deadzone shape. Meaning, if you go lower u will reach the max output faster than if you go higher. But in that case you loose sensitivity if you go low and u loose consistency if you go high. I would rather change the ingame RL aerial and ground sensitivities, and if you do change to square, change to square and leave everything else on steam default.
How do u even make those small touches with squared? bc with cross its super ez to make small and controlled touches that u can follow up. With square i always hit every touch super hard and its super hard to follow up. But your touches look like cross touches, why? i just tried something. Normally i use a ps3 controller (natural square) when i wanna use square. And when i wanna use cross i use the thrustmaster. I just switched the thrustmaster to square, and it feels like its easier to do soft touches.
I Know I wasn't crazy when I felt the joysticks very fast and hard to control the movement of my car at change to the square dead zone, its a matter of getting use to though. The question here is how long this will takes if i don't have the time to play enough for it :'( This information is gold, thanks Maktuf!
It took me about 3 months of playing 3 hrs a day to master it For airdribbles specifically because they require more diagonal inputs, everything else was pretty much instant
Decrease it as much as possible. But it all depends on how consistent u can get at doing flip cancels. If you arent even sure what a cancel is or how to use them, then go as low as u can. If you do want to cancel, watch my square deadzone tutorial and then get a deadzone that matches ur ability to cancel consistently
I have a wierd Problem Maktuf , when i do flip cancels, often afther the cancel the car flips back out of nowhere , dont know if its my controller (bought 1 year ago) or if its just the deadzone interfering with something on steam and ingame , even tho i dont have steam controller overlay on.. pls help :>
@@Maktuf yh but then how do u do jakzes and maktufs, cuz I cant afford a square deadzone controller so ima have to rely on high aerial sense only. And ofc I don't rlly want it to be too high

cross is the default haha
All controllers have cross like deadzones
I still can’t stall 😭
Pls help me stall
When I changed it now it’s saying I’m on Xbox when I’m on ps5
Maybe if i could get square deadzone i would do it but my steam doesnt even give me the chanse to select square deadzone i want to switch but it wont work
Is it fine to use ur settings for comp
Yes of course if you want to do the things I do in competitive. Otherwise you can go with lower deadzones
There are no downsides other than relying a bit more on timing instead of small adjustments
Do they work for Nintendo switch?
Does DS4Windows work for xbox controller?
I play on epic games.
Porfa maktuf haz algún tutorial de lengua hispanohablante
Maktuf, if I have a controller that is calibrated in steam settings, what does increasing or decreasing the controller dead zone in game do to calibration settings? I’m experiencing heavy car it seems and I can’t figure out what to do please sir
what output curve do you recommend for competitive cross deadzone players if its costume, would share the the code pls
Probably the lower the better
Although I also recommend a little bit of a higher deadzone just because not everyone can buy 3 controllers a month once there is a little stick drift
Between 0.15 and 0.20 is pretty good
@@Maktuf thanks for the answer, well I use a Dual sense edge controller can change sticks for 20€ if needed, personally I use 0.07 Deadzone ds4windows 0.90 maxzone 0.18 antideadzone, its normally not Bad quite good but I feel like I cant do some freestyle stuff due to its stiff feeling or sonetimes to fast no control I tried Linear and enhanced presicion with enhanced p. I could do easy resets but the shadow side is when I turn my car for rotations etc and the end i slow down a lot Turning lika turtle or speedflips messed up a lot, I watched some high ranked players and can deffo tell they are not using linear curve couldnt Figure out... with the 0.15-0.20 you mean the deadzone or anti deadzone?
I'm on xbox and really close to hitting heli stalls and multiple flip resets. I feel like if I had a pc and square deadzone I'd be able to hit them so much easier. How much are console players limited in their ability to perform sick freestyles consistently?? Please answer.
Check it out in the square deadzone video
There I explain quickly how to cancel with cross deadzone
It could be ur sens or even ur controller.
@@Maktuf
everyone in here please understand that these settings are for freestyling, not competitive settings. there’s a reason pros have lower dead zones.
That is why I explained in the video why pro players use low sensitivities
There's no wrong or right 😄 just different skill ceilings
@@Maktuf i understand i was about half way through and commented this right as you went through it but i still wanted to say something about it😁 my apologies
To make these clean flips (which look like stall), can I only configure ds4? Because I don't have steam rl, would it work the same way?
you can watch my square deadzone tutorial
I recommend adding Epic as a non steam game, launching Epic through steam and using steam square deadzone.
But ds4 is also really good
Ill upload tomorrow or saturday a cancels tutorial
CIRCLE is the default deadzone shape not cross btww
Im pretty sure its not
Circle is the same as cross.
Try bounce dribbling with cross its a diff game.
so i see this and i am unsure of what i should do for my deadzones and stuff because i already play RL with steering and ariel sensitivity at max or 10 and for me lowering those values actually effects me negatively so i am kind of unsure of where to go for the deadzone any ideas?
edit i watched a bit further and seen the table
hey how can i fix input lag on ds4 windows? I use bluetooth and get 3-5 ms
if I use the dead zone cross what maximum output can I set in the steam settings because the higher it is the more it is a circle deadzone, but too low it becomes a square deadzone
I dont think thats how it works with maximum output
That setting only changes how far u need to go with the stick to reach maximum output, but it does not change the deadzone shape. Meaning, if you go lower u will reach the max output faster than if you go higher. But in that case you loose sensitivity if you go low and u loose consistency if you go high. I would rather change the ingame RL aerial and ground sensitivities, and if you do change to square, change to square and leave everything else on steam default.
Thx
How do u even make those small touches with squared? bc with cross its super ez to make small and controlled touches that u can follow up. With square i always hit every touch super hard and its super hard to follow up. But your touches look like cross touches, why?
i just tried something. Normally i use a ps3 controller (natural square) when i wanna use square. And when i wanna use cross i use the thrustmaster. I just switched the thrustmaster to square, and it feels like its easier to do soft touches.
can you show your bindings
What is better between axial and radial stick ?
Well first things first, do you know the difference between the two?
I Know I wasn't crazy when I felt the joysticks very fast and hard to control the movement of my car at change to the square dead zone, its a matter of getting use to though.
The question here is how long this will takes if i don't have the time to play enough for it :'(
This information is gold, thanks Maktuf!
It took me about 3 months of playing 3 hrs a day to master it
For airdribbles specifically because they require more diagonal inputs, everything else was pretty much instant
makfuf luv you no homo
Its 2024, who cares
If i want my flips to feel fast and smooth do i decrease controller deadzone or increase?
Decrease it as much as possible. But it all depends on how consistent u can get at doing flip cancels. If you arent even sure what a cancel is or how to use them, then go as low as u can. If you do want to cancel, watch my square deadzone tutorial and then get a deadzone that matches ur ability to cancel consistently
Camera setting
whats ur camera in this video?

Hey can u go square deadzone on console??
Check out my square deadzone tutorial 😊
bro you serious i got now 100 procent stalls wtf thx
I have a wierd Problem Maktuf , when i do flip cancels, often afther the cancel the car flips back out of nowhere , dont know if its my controller (bought 1 year ago) or if its just the deadzone interfering with something on steam and ingame , even tho i dont have steam controller overlay on.. pls help :>
You are probably unconsciously moving your sitck away from the full opposite input (too far to the sides probably)
Watch my flip cancels tutorial
@@Maktuf yh but then how do u do jakzes and maktufs, cuz I cant afford a square deadzone controller so ima have to rely on high aerial sense only. And ofc I don't rlly want it to be too high
What the discord link

Hahah I should put it in the description now that u say that
You can look it up on Spotify

@@Maktuf what an incredible title haha awesome! thank you so much for your time and response! I appreciate it
Going live today?
maybe Im not sure, gotta do some homework haha
@@Maktuf alright
POV: you're a console player, so square doesn't exist 😂
Ye like i am 😅
lol
No worries tho
You can still get a similar feel. I explain it in the square deadzone tutorial
And the process for choosing sens is the same :D
@Pulse Maktuf I mean I must be getting somewhere, my friends say I'm insane for a console freestyler :)
