If Azul can get a Jason K vs Tord money match spanning all/multiple Worlds formats to answer the question, who is the truly greatest, with a big sponsor filled money payout, I think it might be amazing! Borderline Red vs Gold on top of the Mt. Silver like match.
Marbles is a big hit in our house too, Chip! Gotta use that membership to get entry to other spots too. Take the Amtrak to Greensboro and hit up the GBoro Childrens museum too!
I’m not sure if this point has been brought up about coaching, but sure accomplishments matter to an extent. However, what I would care about more is the accomplishments of their students. If I’m looking at a coach with multiple top 8s themselves but only 5 of their students have made top 16 at a regional. Then you have a coach with no top 8s but 20 students with top 16s then I think I’d go with the 2nd coach. Of course there’s other factors such as amount of students coached but I think this needs to be talked about more in this discussion.
Agreed. I follow other competitive scenes and many top placing players are not good at coaching or explaining the game. Even with commentary some mid level players are just able to communicate than some higher level players. I think naturally the top placing players that also have great coaching skills will be at the top of the coaching ranks. Coaching skills are a skill set of their own
Literally nobody is expecting to be maxed out after one coaching session. The issue is some people wanting to charge a premium price for a coaching without having the credentials to give someone the confidence they'll receive a worthwhile ROI
Isn’t that a supply / demand issue, which is what Azul was talking about when he said “market correction”. Why are YOU (not you specifically), paying a premium for a coach that has no credential? Is it just a situation of a lack of research on the front side, and deflection on the back?
That doesn't mean we don't call them out on them having no credentials. If they charge & make public comments about them, they aare subject to criticism.
The issue with coaching, I think, boils down to having to pay someone for a service. It takes one person to have a bad experience, which will give them a bad image on coaching. I think people are getting burnt by people that don’t have actual credentials or can teach/coach. Azul is correct that the market will eventually correct itself, but good coaches will lose a lot of potential customers/students by waiting for the market to correct itself off the bad coaches. Chip made the best point that you might be the best at the game, but if you don’t know how to teach you can’t. Anyone can sign up to be a coach and the only credential you need to coach is somewhat high placements. There doesn’t seem to be a proper review system for coaches or prerequisite to be a coach as well like actual teachers need. Also didn’t expect to hear a Drew Gooden shoutout haha
Actually the Palkia build is quite old...my group tested it for LAIC but we decided not playing it cuz it was just trash in our testings, but JP players have been playing it for a long time
I don't think your logic is all that consistent. In real life we do hold those standards for professionals. Would you hire a fat fitness coach? I wouldn't. If his methods & advises are so good, why is he fat? Learning math from your elementary teacher is kinda an apples to oranges comparison as you don't actively hire her & you sure as hell don't pay her directly. State/School assigns her based on her credentials, to teach at that level. Which is the comparable part. If you are a beginner level pokemon tcg coach, you sure say so in your description and charge accordingly, but they don't inform. That's where the backlash is coming from. And lastly, is theoretically possible that a fat fitness coach has great fitness advise, but come on, is incredibly unlikely. Thet part i do agree tho, is that market should/will eliminate the subpar coaches from the market.
The best teachers/coaches aren't always the best in their field. I agree it's so weird people look at credentials of the wins of the people. If anything it just changes the rate someone maybe charges?
They do have accomplishments as coaches tho. People that got the heat from that discussion don't have that either. And lastly, pretty much all sports coaches in Europe performed at the level they want to coach. Is very, very rare to see a second division player coaching a first division team. Those teams only hire ex pro players. There are some cases Like Alex Ferguson & Mourinho that were incredible coaches with a subpar player career, but they were still first division players (aka pro) and tehn got creds as coaches as they built their brand. Most successful soccer coaches were elite players like Guardiola, Zidane, Anccelloti, etc.
Larry Bird, Reggie Miller and Michael Jordan were TERRIBLE coaches. However, guys like Coach K, John Wooden, and Phil Jackson were incredible coaches but weren’t the best players ever. It’s a wild thought to say that great coaching can’t come from those who aren’t the greatest players. Only in Pokémon is that mindset happening. Imagine if the New England Patriots didn’t hire Bill Belichick originally just because he “wasn’t a great player” lol.
That is an american thing. I could give you the same exact opposite example on soccer. That it can happen, doesn't mean it is common. Pretty much every elite soccer coach was pro at some point and most were elite players. Coaches like Zidane & Guardiola have a super easy time landinh top jobs and managing players as everyone (team, aficionados & directives) believe in their credentials. How likely is that a fat fitness coach has incredibly good fitness advise? If his advise is so good, why isn't he fit? Credentials prove credibility. There is no other measurement in pokemon TCG. The correct KPI would be how many regionales your coached guys have won while you were coaching them
Yeah but the difference is coaches in sports lack the physical talent to actually perform what they preach. In pokemon, the coaches can ACTUALLY perform and are able to practice what they preach. There is literally no other factors such as physical limitations etc.
I like the show but from what I've heard over the years azuls seem to decide the conclusion you want to come to then figure out a way to argue that. I would say every coaching argument you used except if they have the money who cares could be used against it. Just seems very gatekeeper like to say everyone that agrees with me are the only ones allowed to have an opinion. If people want to complain about someone charging 40 an hour and knowing very little about the game who cares
Chip and Azul need guess that flavour text coaching
Celio's Network was called by multiple.people
Hahahahahaha
Was thinking trapinch this week
@@JamFlexx yeah that was my first guess as well, almost thought it was gen 8 mon because of the correlation to sanaconda
so true

Azul is pushing Moon/Hands pretty hard to shift the meta... Azul is playing Klawf/Electrode at Charlotte confirmed.
Woah! Best thing about an episode being late is how quick the next one comes around lets gooooo :)
the sandaconda threw me off lol didn’t except it to be on a durant card since they are different gens
One-on-one training is a premium service and the cost should reflect that. Let the market decide.
I relearned what mandables are today hahaha had to edit that I misspelled it lol
Marbles is a big hit in our house too, Chip! Gotta use that membership to get entry to other spots too. Take the Amtrak to Greensboro and hit up the GBoro Childrens museum too!
Azul definitely thinking about pinsir on flavor text lol
I instantly thought of the correct flavor text pokemon, but was thrown off by Sandaconda.

How much volume do you think it takes for a player winning challenges and topping cups to start making big finishes at regionals?
So sad I am snowed in for the Charlotte regionals :'( good luck to those who can make the trip!!!

Same as the other comment, supply and demand. Anyone can charge as much as the market will bare.
That doesn't mean we don't call them out on them having no credentials.

This is the same place where no vendors brought sleeves. Here's to hope it's better.

As soon as I heard that flavor text I shouted out: ANTS TROUBLED. If you know you know.
A 1 hour film session with Brady doesn’t mean you come out of it knowing Xs and Os like he does
Getting an hour worth of someone's time to teach you something when he is below average like Celio, isn't a good use of money tho.
Another fantastic podcast episode, gentlemen!
I immediately thought of Durant.
If TM:Devo gets popular, does it make sense to change from PidZard to BibZard with TM:Evo??
Azul def thinking pinsir
I really hope they give us better table space than last charlotte regional. We had to overlap playmats and my cards fell off the table once
I think the tables are property of the convention center (except the stream match tables, which are owned by Pokémon.).
Azul absolutely thought for a second Lebron died in a helicopter accident. I seent it.
I am not finding new channel. With new video announced. Is it on UA-cam?

That flavor text should have been so easy
I can't believe you said Wolfey is the biggest name in VGC and compared him to Tord when Ray Rizzo is the three time world champ :O
Because the parallel to Ray Rizzo in TCG is Jason K, the only 3 time world champ in TCG
But I need to get better at the game now! 19:15

Ayyy Yoo favorite podcast on this dope Wednesday morning.Hope to see chip at charlotte and i know our boi Azul GG will be there
I comment because Chip told me to
Can you imagine expecting to be as good as michael jordan after playing basketball with him for 1 hour... 😆
Can you imagine wanting to get coached by people that has results and is better than you at something?
