A lot of people are hell bent on making sure this sim is socially unacceptable lol I’m so happy big UA-camrs are giving it a proper go and showing otherwise .
I bought my copy of AMS 2 in a brown paper bag under the counter :p
@@rjbishop6128 lolol right?
I play AMS2 in an alley behind the skip bins….
Reminds me of ppls attitude towards project cars 😅
Can confirm, I played AMS2 once and my family disowned me.
Racecraft is the LFM for AMS 2....it just needs more drivers. But yeah AMS 2 is now right up there with them all IMO. Great video Dave.
Especially VR. It's leaps above others
Despite the improvements in the physics, the online component still requires significant attention before gaining widespread acceptance. Numerous issues persist, such as sessions not progressing properly, desynchronized starts, road and weather conditions out of sync, and collision detection problems, among others. While the patch notes indicate some progress, it seems evident that a more substantial effort is required.
The current P2P system appears to be a major hurdle, and it might be necessary for the developers to consider a complete rewrite of the network interface. Relying on a new approach could prove beneficial in resolving the persistent network-related problems.
The development team spent three years refining the physics, but even now, there remains room for further improvement in this area. It is only natural to hope that addressing the network issues won't demand another three-year timeframe.
@@Vindisifythis will probally be adressed when Le Mans comes out, because of the Endurances Races
@@barracadoseuze4213 All these aspects hold equal significance in sprint races. Thus, your argument that they will address them solely based on endurance races is flawed. Moreover, it's important to note that endurance has been an integral part of the game since its initial release.
@@Vindisify I'm not saying that they will only work on multiplayer when they launch Le Mans, but that these aspects of Multiplayer should be improved by then.
Dave you could try setup some online server races. You have enough of a following to get something going. Might encourage some followers to do the same.
Agreed , I’ve now cancelled my sub to iracing
AMS2 is now becoming my main sim
Great honest review and coming from someone with a lot of real world experience, thank you! 👍🏁
p.s. Try the Chevrolet Camaro SS & let us know your thoughts, the street cars are now driveable and also the Ginetta G55 GT3 😉
The mclaren feels really good!
You are right Matt for the SS. Last tried this over year ago, wasnt usable for racing IMO (neglecting possibility it was my lack of skill). Now i can see it being used for community racing even. Ginetta I havent tried yet
Ams2 has certainly improved a lot since its release, and I'm really starting to love it. The wet weather racing too with the wet lines and such is such an experience as well after 1.5.
Yes, the wet weather lines is something I'll take a look at 😁
Just as an FYI, wet lines are still in its initial stages. It’ll gradually be worked on and the difference made stronger with an objective to have it ready for 1.6.
Basically, it’s normal if you currently notice no difference.
Also as a VR experience I can say its unbeatable and I also play AC and Iracing
My favorite Sim for me best in VR👍 to me it reacts like a real car would. For me much better then ACC. (Yep driven a Maclaren/lambo/porsche/Ferrari for real )
I've stuck with AMS2 as I'm a sucker for recreating historic races. I started a 1991 F1 season and the update dropped after I'd completed 2 races. The third race was nuts, felt like a different game for all the right reasons. Even the AI were better. Roll on Le Mans later in the year.
Been playing AMS2 on and off for almost 2 years now and the sim we have today feels like a completely different game.
It's my favorite sim atm and I can't wait for Le Mans to be released next year.
Great review Dave and I agree with your thoughts about the update. The lateral grip you get from the front/rear axles seems much more in line with vehicle weight transfer. The bounciness/slidiness is more exaggerated compared with other sims but because of that it can be easier to feel the car movements in some ways. I feel in ams2 you can really hustle cars on the limit which is great :)
I had a really good race against the AI yesterday. I don't even know if they tweaked the AI much this update but they battled really good against me. (Bathurst) There was a crash and safety car came out and I was like "wtf is going on here"😂 I did not expect that! The whole field came close to each other again and made the race even more exciting. One of the best sim racing experiences I've had in a long time!
I hadn’t heard too much about AMS2 over the years…then I saw a 2 min clip on twitter with zero commentary or anything, just raw gameplay and I decided to purchase it. Seems I purchased it at a VERY good time. 2 days in and I’m absolutely in LOVE with this game
I love AMS2, I was playing it years ago, I think I have 300hrs logged. But what I’d like to see is more brands. Honda, Ferrari, Lambo, Ford
I bought it about a year ago and it was shite to be honest..
Might give it another try. Thsnks ✌🏻🍻🏁
Its still shit to be honest.😂
Low Fuel Motosports needs to adopt AMS2 for great multiplayer.
Hi Dave. Great review. I know it's a less favored titled, but I had a blast on RaceRoom this past week - their devs are also working hard to cash in on the recent popularity of sim racing. And I have to say, ACC is in trouble if these smaller teams come up with workable multiplayer options. How do you think RaceRoom compares to AMS2?
Raceroom is superior in handling. True and proper sim. ACC feels so much better with the latest update. Its on par with Raceroom and AC. AC is still king of physics and ffb
1st rF2
2nd RRRE
3rd AC
4th AMS2
RaceRoom is a fantastic Hardcore Sim.
And Ams2 is on a very good way.
This is such a great game and the physics just gets better and better. As you said the multiplayer aspect is what is holding this back. If LFM can get involved with this then numbers will really shot up.
I heard a YT commenter (it wasn't you Dave) pretty say that if you want to sit at the "big boy" table you need to do iRacing (a sim I love and respect). Yet, isn't that a sim that benefits from practicing many hours to perfect your pedal inputs to a specific percentage (brake 80% here, 50% throttle here, like a golf shot in a video game)? I like that in AMS2 you can control the platform with your feet, and modulate your pedals "by feel" through the whole corner sequence for the best results. I couldn't tell you what percentage I'm pressing the pedals, the car tells me what to do. I have all of the titles regarded as a true sim, but AMS2 makes me feel that I have more to do with the consequences of my actions: good or bad. It's my new favorite.
You can do that in iracing as well, I think perhaps the difference intended by a comment like that is that iracing is so competitive at the top that you are going to have to be that consistent to get good results. Thats the same in any sim.
If it drives as good as it looks it must be very good Dave.
Keep up the good work.
👍
Yes I definitely got some RF2 vibes after the update. The Adrenaline pack DLC is pretty great as well, might be worth a try…
The main problem with online multiplayer right now is just a lack of player base. They have implemented a ranking system and it’s easy to create a lobby, so I think the bones are there for good online racing, there just aren’t enough people playing. Not sure how you solve that one…I like the Gran Turismo approach of funneling people into a limited number of daily/weekly races, but Raceroom did try their own version of this with official ranked servers and it hasn’t seemed to make much of a difference so who knows?
I also really enjoy how each positive impression about the update that I see makes Gamermuscle’s stupid hot take about it seem more ridiculous. 😂
Does GM not like it?
He still hates it, says it’s for low skill players who are too dumb to realize that it’s bad. Nice guy though 🙄
It's hard to take GM seriously when he blatantly doesn't care to test it in good-faith. First thing he did on his latest video about it was dive the AI in T1, slam into them, damage his front aero on ice cold tires, then complain that it felt bad.
@@bensoniusprimelet's be honest, GM hasn't got a clue about cars. He's not a car guy. He's an AC guy, anything else to him is automatically bad.
@@bensoniusprime doesn't even driven a real road car from what I've heard. Not a single point of reference. But he's a nice bloke indeed
Formula retro gen1 is my fav at the mo. H pattern, no auto clutch, damage etc on. Just awesome
Lotus 49C and 79 are also so great now and iRacing should be ashamed what they are offering.
So fun ya! I see there is a 1974 skin pack on RD to try out! ‘71 Nords is a wild ride with them!
The man who disarmed a sword wielding loony, AMS has improved a great deal with this update for sure.
Turn off TC to see the real tyre grip ramp up or down...
Exactly what you say went through my mind too.
Similar FFB as rF2, a bit slippery and oversteering, but all in all a more than very good basis.
Bought Nürburgring because of the Südschleife.
Fantastic with the old Porsche RSR!👍
Apparently they had 2 physics models overlapping each other, causing it to feel like shit.
Yep and still does feel like shit.
The stupid bouncing and bobbing around is just horrible..
ACC is WAY better.
Just drove ACC and AMS2 back to back and I gotta say AMS feels quite a lot better than ACC now, just needs a proper online system!
It looks like you also needto adjust your camera setting. Set the camera locked to the car and the floatiness is way less.
That is pretty bad idea. With locked camera it doesn't feel natural.
I'm not sure I'd have it fully locked
Very minimal movement works best imo. Enough to give the impression of bumps etc but not so much that the on screen car is all over the place and effectively lags behind the steering inputs
It drives amazing and I love it more than most other sims but iRacing still remains the king. Yesterday I had a great race and it was a packed lobby. I was running P2 and the fastest guy retired. I decided to continue leading the race even though it was a big gap and after 10 mins I realized most drivers quit the race and I was left with one other driver who was 2 laps behind.
It feels awesome and the sound and graphics make it one of the best but there is no commitment from drivers
Been playing AMS2 back and forth over some years now but AC been my main. But honestly it feels really damn good now and the AI is just really damn good. Having a blast in ams2
I had very much the same thoughts. The game never felt convincing before but now it's almost a new game to me. My main Sims are raceroom and some iracing, I can now drive AMS2 with no big changes to how I approach driving, i feel like I'm in a race car now. There's a few oddities here and there but overall this is a massive step forward.
yep, AMS2 feels better now... not as good as rF2, but it comes close... closer than iRacing, Racerroom. But multiplayer needs attention...
I wouldn't rule out something like AMS2 suddenly stream rollering iRacing. All it takes is for a few people to make the move and then it could become a torrent.
But first the online system obviously needs to be setup better and that tricke needs to actually start the move.
Another thing which could trigger it, is if someone like F1 or Indycar hired Reiza to make an official version of AMS2 specific to their series and then integrate the online system of that into AMS2, allowing AMS2 users to play against the console players.
Before the 1.5 update, I usually like just one car in the GT1 category (which is the Mercedes Benz). Now, I like them all. So, I think the 1.5 update makes it more drivable now.
"No messing about- let's just get into it."
I respect that.
Thank you. There is a lot of waffle on UA-cam 👍
I’ve just tried this property after an even newer update and I have to say I’m massively impressed. Racing the DPI I get exactly what Dave says about the feeling of weight in the cars. You can really hustle the car. Going back to iracing afterwards was a shock, having to feather the pedals and steering, cars feeling light as a feather, and don’t get me started on the visual comparisons!! If Ams2 can get the online sorted and a decent fleet contemporary cars; GTP/Hyper etc, then I feel that this could really be up there as a genuine competitor.
Would love to see more AMS2 stuff, Dave. Even if it’s just the odd AI race with some weather 😜
@Dave Cam - Interested to know if you use a custom FFB file in AMS2 or if you are using the default? The cars don't feel planted to the track and I don't feel any weight braking in corners in AMS2.
Funny you say that you never driver a real GT3 car. I Think, to make a good judgement on realism, this is important. I agree with you on this. Your fellow UA-camr James West disagrees with this and we had quite a discussion about this. With simracing things click with you or they don't and that's okay. But to make a fair comparison you need a reference or baseline if you will. Nice and honest opinion about the game I really love. Thanks.
I actually like AMS2 and always have (probably because I loved PC2) but why does it feel like there are 10x more people supporting the game in comments than there ever are in the multiplayer lobbies?
I've owned Ams2 since launch but never really clicked with it. Great fun and beautiful, I used it for not so serious racing against AI. My serious driving was always done in rF2. This update though, so much better and I get the rF2 comparison, I have quite a few hours in AC & considerably less in ACC, neither of which do I really enjoy, I find AC more satisfying to drive than ACC but I haven't driven either recently. Reiza have done a great job since launch and they had faith in their product and kept digging until they got it driving the way they knew it could. I really hope they sort out the multiplayer, I've no interest in it personally but as many of my fellow sim racers need to enjoy this as possible. Your video looks amazing Dave, it really is a gorgeous looking sim with superb weather effects, and a pretty good selection of vehicles and tracks. Thanks for posting.
they need to overhaul the multiplayer next
Yep. That's where it all turns to custard.
Can you try or forza motorsport
The mechanics get layered one at a time, and the mechanics are bite-sized and small,” Greenawalt says. “So it’s not ‘what’s your lap time?’ or even ‘did you win the whole race?’ It’s this corner. Then this corner. I’ve got a history of teaching martial arts for a couple years and, to m,e this is the natural way of learning. You learn a part, and then you add a part, and then you add a part. And if you put in the time, you end up getting very, very good. But it takes repetition.
Setting up trips for AMS2 is tricky. I ended up watching a couple of vids that helped a lot. It was stuff that you'd never be able to infer or guess. Blew my mind but now got pretty much perfect (for me!) FOV dialed in.
Great, can you suggest some? I want to Do the same, too
I think mine are good too but ya if any tips that might be new please share. Glad you got it dialed in!
ive found default is better than default+ for the ffb
I’ve stuck with default as well and dialed true drive in to where I’m very happy with the ffb. Rfk custom v70 worked well too but I didn’t feel a tremendous difference.
Discombobulated could be the word you're looking for before this update 😂
Yes 😁
And still is
You drove fast in your previous occupation, where you a traffic cop ?
No, never went the traffic route 😁
@@davecamyt oh okay so just as a police officer? I never knew you used to work in the force ☺️☺️
Response for my whole career, latterly a Sergeant 👍
@@davecamytI knew you were a brother in blue 😉
@@davecamyt Thanks for your service DC I have much respect for the boys and girls in blue
Thank You Dave ! I agree, its wonderful :)
Picked up ams2 recently and loving it need more people to jump on racecraft to populate more online racing
You need to give the Formula Junior a drive. It's 🔥🔥
What Ffb settings did you use in game (default+ etc.) and in Simucube (guessing you actual setup) ?
?
Getting closer to RF2. Except for the wet.
The user base is to big of iRacing such as their 💶💷💵 😅
AMS2 is definitely the simulation providing the best graphics and now also one of the best physics!! I'm driving in a full-motion rig and the immersive experience, especially on tracks like the Nordschleife is absolutely gorgeous! There's no other simulation that can hold a candle to it! I promise you that, you have to try guys!!!
best graphics yes..
My biggest issue with AMS2 is the lack of "Sense of Speed"
setup the FOV correctly, there's nothing wrong with the sense of speed.
I’m having lots of fun after the update. 🥳 Did enjoy it before but now… GT3s (and the rest of the roster) feel so much better, imo. Grip, weight, control… 💪 have you considered turning down the artificial shake? I usually have a better feeling for the car when it’s more locked. I’m driving all settings at zero (g forces and such) and legacy head movement enabled. Have a good week, Dave! 😊👋
I've turned it down quite a bit but I'll try what you suggested 😁
This is the way!
Nice video Dave! Do u believe AMS2 would be better called a simcade rather rather than a proper sim though ? :)
Not if they can get the online side of things sorted 👍
The way front is jumping and jittering is sooo annoying. Not sure if it's the setting (horizon lock or whatever), but just cant look at it.
You can change your settings to stop that happening.
You can totally get rid off that shaking. I also hate it.
Wish they would exploit their Vintage /Retro F1 content more, like having all tracks and cars of the 1976 (or another famous year) to recreate that season. Let ACC focus on GT3 and4
TCS at 8 with new tires and dry surface, is supposed to have absolutely no throttle oversteer. The TCS and ABS are the only things that Reiza really must address in AMS2. Not that the sim is perfect (as flawed as any other sim in the market), but this is the only thing that the simulator logics don't match with reality (and wet surfaces... that are impossible to really mimic with current hardware... so, I don't count it). Cheers!
This game has got so many really nice cars classes to drive now...yet many content creators almost always pick GT3 cars to "judge" the game and it`s improvement... I wish people would give other classes more love in this game.
You beat me with this. It is so boring to see that GT3 crap everywhere.
I am happy AMS2 gets some attention though, it is awesome sim to go for me. Variety of cars, weather... buggies are awesome, I have always wanted full fat autocross simulator.
I tried many different cars and all felt good. If I show a GT3, the maybe those that drive GT3 in other sims will take a look
I love DTM racing
@@davecamyt I understand your point, but we as community should try to promote different classes to get people out sometimes of this GT3 all the time…
Everywhere you look is GT3,GT3,GT3 aaaaall the time GT3 👀🤷🏻♂️ Like honestly isn’t there any other exciting racing classes? Why GT3 gets the crown? I don’t get it… Of course it’s not your fault in this Dave, but the narrative of GT3 continues… 🤷🏻♂️
@@JAILEDforMEMES I agree 100%. That's why you hardly see a GT3 race now on my channel. So boring
iracing ruined all racing sims for me the,
ffb is so good that every other sim is almost impossible to enjoy
Ermm…FFB is the last reason I play iRacing. AMS2, RF2, RRE, even ACC knock iRacing out of the park for FFB. I just tried the Porsche GT3 in both sims and the iRacing one feels dead by comparison. I play iRacing for the ranked multiplayer, and it has other strengths as well ( it’s AI is awesome ). But FFB? nope, not top of the list for me I’m afraid. Have you even tried this version of AMS2?
There are better sims out there with better FFB and physics than iracing
@@mikecroshaw5754 Well i forgot too mention i use irffb you should try it
@@chrisparry4461 i know. and most likely it depends more on what you are used too. And what car you drive.
I'm also agreeing with mike that the gt3 isn't great. and what i said before i really recommend too try out the program irffb.
CANT GET MY R5 MOZA WHEEL TO WORK ON IT
Thank you for this video, been waiting for your opinion on this update......... Might re-install AMS2 now LoL
ACC is the game to compare this sim.
All good stuff but I probably won't play it much anyway. I'm all about multiplayer so AMS2 never does it for me due to that.
Please help AMS2 and connect with other SIM Racer and bring more people to the multiplayer.
Great review and I have to agree with your comments regarding the feel/connection with the road. I'd have to say, its actually the single most tangible sim driving improvement that I have experienced amongst all the other sims that I drive (AC, ACC, iRacing). Its interesting how the latest update has been able to very accurately translate an understeer/oversteer into what you feel out of your direct drive wheel. The combination of the shuddering and force drop on the wheel really does feel very similar to real life understeer/oversteer and though I love iRacing, I have found myself switching over to AMS2 more often just to do some hot laps and single races just to enjoy the feel of the driving in this game.
Thanks for this post, Dave. The update has transformed AMS2 for me. It's now my goto sim as I prefer to do most of my driving offline.
Can you maybe share your settings in a seperate video for the Asetek Setup? :) Mine seems not to work on AMS2. The steering wheel is not regocnized. 🤔
Like many I wish it had some form of active multiplayer that actually meant something.
Random public lobbies where half the grid leaves is rubbish.
They can make it the best driving sim out there but the playerbase will never increase until the multiplayer side of things is drastically overhauled.
Thanks Dave for your comments it helps to get views like yours. I agree with you its simular to RF2 my races with AI has gone to a whole new level since 1.5
Every Tom, Dick, Harry and Dave or Mac if he using just the alt account these days 😂
we need more gt3 gte cars.
Great to hear a positive review on the 1.5 update! It really is such a game changing uodate. Drives as good as it looks now. Reiza have done a tremendous job.
This is now my lunch time sim. I sneak in 15-min races against a mix humans and AIs. Good times!
What’s wrong with the MP aspect of this game?
the dedicated server is not very robust and it uses peer to peer networking. Which I believe is why LFM did not adopt it. MP needs some serious work, but it's hard and difficult to sort that stuff out with a small team. I know Reiza have been looking into it for some time now and they did make some fixes in 1.5. Hope they can sort it, it is the biggest thing really holding this title back from being more mainstream and popular. that being said, the guys behind Racecraft online are doing a good job with their iRacing lite take on it, and there is online racing if you go looking. I've actually had a ton of fun on the RX stuff just in open lobbies. For the RX races it doesn't matter if it's a bit of a crash fest, it suits open lobbies. In the first race I did at Nurburgring everyone went the wrong way at the start an crashed, it as absolutely awesome.
Thank you for posting a reasonable and honest appraisal of the V1.5 updates in AMS2.
It still feels a lot more forgiving than other sims on throttle, but really AMS2 has so much going for it. Drives good, runs great, looks great, gives you all the adrenaline, conveys information well through the wheel, has tons of types of cars and lots of tracks. And it's only getting better. I really hope it'll be up there soon.
Also the only sim with a wet line now, iirc.
Wait there's no online multiplayer?
There is, but not really what we expect for a ranking system.
Great news! I tried it a year or so ago, and it just did not feel “right”. I wish LFM would take it on, could be a banger triple for sure.. Thanks for your honest review Dave 😎
With this update AMS2 is now one of my favorite racing games.
Dave, I love all of your content. I'm learning something new or just pure enjoyment. I haven't looked into AMS2 yet but now I will. Thank you for such great content.
I know most of u know, but 4 thoose who don't try Thunderflashs car mods many crazy good cars on the blog. And install them with AMS2 content manager!
Have also been thoroughly enjoying this update! Super glad to see the community come back to AMS2, Reiza has been so inspiring with how hard they've worked on all the updates! Can't wait to see what else they do
ONLY thing I hate about AMS2 is that (I think) it tries to simulate the engine vibrations through the force feedback. A car just sitting idle in the garage has my wheel flopping all over the place and I've no idea how to make it stop. Everything else since this update has been lovely. The AMG GT3 actually now feels heftier than the F1 car. Can't really get into the dirt racing though.
this happens when you Set wrong wheel degree, recalibrate it for the cars, when it does Not oscilate then it is correct
Do you feel the inside front tire lift off the track when cornering? Or the rear inside lifting?
I am planning to get Am2 or Iracing, which have better physics?
I'd say iracing for sure, although ams2 looks much better 👍
@@davecamyt thanks
Nice video Dave. I think it was Rennsport (not AMS2) that you had that complaint about the last phase of braking? Unless it was both...
Yes ams2 has always felt like that but much worse in Rennsport 👍
Until the MP can get better it’s just a hot lap seasion(s). CART cars Group C GT1 MP/4-5-6 are awesome. GT3 is 😑 GTE is much better. The rolling starts where the “game” drops you in and no wheel control for 2 seconds is just… stupid and causes carnage if a guy or two hasn’t there wheel straight. Debris left on the track on open wheelers is an immersion deflater.
Also Renalto even said they not tested MP with the select few in close proximity. Also stated their goal wasn’t to be about MP but then he back tracks in his statement (found of Twitter)
Amazing! Ive been wanting to get a racing sim that I dont need to keep a subscription for as I dont get alot of time so its just money wasted. But is the online racing popular?
Unfortunatly not, but racing against the ai is quite fun
what i love most about this game is the vast amount of cars and tracks that are enjoyable and all feel so different. The game just keeps on improving
AMS2 community race time then, yeah?
i believe 12 is off on the abs and tc
I’d hold my horses until enough people try to tweak setups and discover the possibilities to cheat like they did in rFactor2. Sadly, everything ams2 is doing right, is not enough to be up at the same level of iracing.
Don’t know why so many people think Iracing tops all the sims when it clearly doesn’t, online racing yes it’s miles ahead but physics and FFB there are better sims.
@@chrisparry4461 that’s exactly my point, even if the offline experience is better than in iracing, it doesn’t mean I can use it to replace iracing - since it will already fail at basic things like a non-abusable setup engine or a proper way to prevent cheating, or a penalty system that works, or ….
Great video Dave and thanks for all the top content
hi Dave.... why do you have the virtual steering wheel on? what is the advantage or benefit?
(sorry my english)
Just for you guys. 😁
@@davecamyt ah, ok 🙂
I refunded my AMS2 purchase, right after one of these big updates - never felt right to me. Would this be the time to try it again?
Yes
No. Only mild improvements. Though you could try it for yourself and refund again if necessary.
Yes but depends. If you enjoy gt3 stay with acc. I personaly use ams2 for retro formula races on historic tracks against the AI. But yeah it's a hugh improvement compared to release version. Unless you delete your ams2 folder in doc folder and you tweak your ffb to your liking
No, a lot of the cars are still damn awful.
It is much better. However, only you can decide if it is for you. I'm a backer of it, but out of all the SIM I have, including iRacing, AMS2 is the one that has the least amount of hours in it. But with this update, I know I'll be putting a lot of hours.
Of course, if you're an online racer, AMS2 is not there as mentioned.
I'm confused it seams like I'm missing something but iRacing has 200 ppl 24-hour peak according to steamdatabase. how is the playerbase?
because most people log into iracing direct and not on steam
😊 Normal is 10K to 8K
I remember when Android hit 5% of maket share. No way it could take iPhone down, for sure... 😊
My exact feelings as well👍
Was fun racing you this morning :D
My first time at that track. I really enjoyed it 😁
