    In depth review!
    I finished the cardigan a week ago and I am so in love with it. Thank you for the simple tutorial!
    For anyone thinking about starting this project:
    I'd say the cardigan comes out a European size S, depending on how the material behaves maybe an M. But if you definitiely need an M or even want it to fit oversized, then maybe do the squares a bit bigger. I naturally wear an XS/S and on me it's a bit oversized, really comfy.
    Materials: I used mainly organic cotton that does not stretch or anything. Doing that, I needed double the amount of yarn that was recommended. For one color though I used a softer acrylic mix (because I needed a color unavailable as cotton) that does move around a bit and stretches. These squares came out a bit smaller, so keep in mind that assembly might be tricky if you mix up different types of yarns. It is not noticable in the final product, but the process was a little different than If I had had used cotton only.
    The cardigan is definitely beginner friendly! The only thing is, it takes time. Making 51 squares is quite a task, assembling everything also takes hours upon hours. Crocheting with a tight schedule, I finished after exactly 4 weeks. But it was quite a bit of work every single day, so if you keep it casual, you might be done in 6 to 10 weeks.
    Definitely trust the process, because without having assembled the ribbing you might find the cardigan looking a bit odd. Don't worry, it's gonna come out perfect!
    In the end I decided to make the ribbing a little bigger to even out the crop. What surprised me was how cropped the cardigan really is. I like it, but I wanted a bit more coverage around the middle so doing the seams 30 to 50% bigger helps if you run into the same "issue". Also, the arms are going to be really really long. If you want to avoid this, maybe do a few squares less on the arms or even work with one row of half squares above the ribbing.
    Over all, the cardigan is my absolute favourite piece in my closet now! It is so simple but this is what makes it pop. It was so much fun to work on it, I loved to see the mountain of squares grow every day. It kinda becomes a no brainer at one point, which I find to be very relaxing!
    Have fun!

      Hi!! Thank you soo much for the in depth review❤. I have a doubt to ask if you don't mind me asking.
      Since you said it is cropped should I add one more line of patchwork in the bottom??

    • @windkraftanlagenkonglomera6209
      @windkraftanlagenkonglomera6209 Рік тому +1

      @@Priya-hl5zy Hi:)! It depends if you go for a REAL crop. If that's your style then don't worry! But depending on your height (I am 1,62m and therefore not that tall) the squares (without ribbing) might stop a bit above your navel. If you want the cardigan to be a usual non-cropped length, an added line of squares at the bottom will do!

      So if you want to this project for a size XL still cropped what would you suggest. As I am using 8ply wool unsure on size of hook (also perfectly fine making more squares)

    • @windkraftanlagenkonglomera6209
      @windkraftanlagenkonglomera6209 9 місяців тому +1

      @@ErinDeBoni hi! To get a European XL I guess it would be enough to do the squares a third bigger than suggested in the video, maybe 20cm long? Using the hook suggested for your wool would be fine I guess! Keep in mind the increased length of the arms if you do bigger squares. You might need less fabric on the arms while having to concentrate on increasing the size of the main (middle) part. I can imagine it could also work out nicely to keep doing the original size of squares for an XL, though you might need 1-2 rows of sqares more (width AND length, main part). It might be the safer option. You can assemble as you go to monitor the size you'll get and need!

      Megan, dont know if this will help but i put a big cardboard box in the closet of my sewing room (bedroom no more) and once it is filled w yarn, i make myself refuse to even look at new patterns, mags, vids, etc until the stash goes down. Since the box contains wips as well, it forces me to finish up so i can replenish my box. I get time to save up and then spend days looking through all the new project ideas, making plans, ordering lots of yarn, and waiting for my pkgs to arrive!
      Hope this helps. Happy hooking!🤗

      @@marlz_44 I'm 19 but I'm the height of an 11-12 year old LOL! I made this cardigan and found that the sleeve being 3 squares long was a little too much for me, but also my squares stretched into 17cm so with the correct measurements they could still be okay..? 2 squares for the sleeves would fit me perfectly, but I think on my cardigan that would look super awkward because of how big it is. I used super heavy yarn, so the bunched sleeves actually droop over the cuff and look more like bell sleeves, which I don't mind too much, but it's something to consider. I'm trying to make it again with yarn that isn't so heavy, so if you reply I'll get a reminder to update you :) my cardigan ended up being over 1 kilo with the yarn I used, but with this next yarn, it shouldn't even reach 500 grams.
      I'm hoping to toss my giant cardigan into the dryer to try and shrink it a bit to solve my issue! I'll see how that works out too. Maybe if I wash it first, the stretching that happened by accident will revert and I'll have regular sized squares again as well. I'll just have to see :)

    I've done mine few days ago and I wanna share some tips for someone who would like to try it...
    1. Buy 1-2rolls of yarn first and try how many squares u can do. U can calculate how many rolls u still need so it won't left out much or not enough yarn for u. (as I can't find the same online store provided above in my country, I just bought from the other store but the weight and squares that I can do are not the same)
    2. U can use 4ply yarn so that your cardigan won't be as heavy as 5ply yarn (by measuring 15cm x 15cm yourself and not only 22 chains as the video)(yet 5ply yarn are thicker and warmer to wear)
    3. The width of the square of the sleeve can be shorter (mine sleeves are too long for me, I'd prefer maybe a 13 x 15 cm for sleeves) (I'm around 1.6m)
    4. Time arrangement is important... For me, I spent 30-45mins for one square. So, 17 squares x 3 colors x 30-45mins + sewing time + buffer time and so on(if u're going to try it please think carefully b4 starting this so that u won't give up half way)
    Hope that this comment help some of u ;)

    I just finished one!! Took me almost 3 months working very steadily at it but I love the results. One thing I found weird was that the sleeves on mine were outrageously long I had to take off more than half of the sleeve length to make it look normal and able to wear it. Other than that amazing tutorial and pattern thank you!!!

      I experienced this. The pattern in the video says the sleeves should be four long, but in her part 2 of the video it is only 3 long.
      Super annoying as I could have saved time by not crocheting 6 un-needed squares! 😅

    I made this cardigan a year ago and this tutorial was perfect and very beginner friendly :) but tbh barely wore it the sleeves were very heavy and long and got in the way. Now I've modified it by cutting out a row of squares in the sleeves and also added some buttons and it fits much better. If I did this again I'd make the sleeves shorter from the start or maybe make an additional square to lengthen the body of it instead :)

    Started following this tutorial in late May with leftover yarn from a knitting project. Spent a month and a half working on it until I finished all my yarn. I tried ordering more of the same color, but the online store I got them from was sold out in those shades. The store said it wouldn't be back in stock for a month, so in the mean time I started the process all over again with yarn of a different weight and different colors. This time I bought enough yarn to complete the project, however with medium (4) weight yarn it took about 300 grams per color for the squares.
    So far I have completed 17 squares of my first color and 12 squares of my second color. It's been 2.5 months, and I've only worked on it for about 6 hours a week every other week. This is my first crochet project, and I can't wait to see the results. Totally doable for beginners, just don't forget to buy enough yarn to finish or you might have to start over again. That being said some of my squares are a few mm too long or too short. Hopefully it all works out.
    Thank you so much for the tutorial! I love the illustration of the block layout. I found it really helpful.

    Just finished this cardigan and it was such a great tutorial super straight forward and easy to follow! I used impeccable 100% acrylic yarn and used two balls of each color for patches (127 grams per ball) and an extra ball for ribbing. This cuts it kind of close so you might want to get 3 balls but up to you. Also if you are doubting the back panel because of how big it is it’s perfect!! I’m a small person (4”11) and I don’t have a wide back but it really doesn’t appear or feel big when wearing. The only thing I would recommend doing is modifying the arms if you have shorter arms I did 2 rows as apposed to 4.

      i’d buy one of each color you want to use and use up all of that, then you can calculate how much you’ll need to complete this project. yarn is different in thickness and how much you’ll need, so relying on the gram amount won’t work for you. hope this helped!

    many girls don't understand how to sew the sleeves along with the rest of the cardigan. because the author made a mistake in the scheme, and the sleeves of her cardigan are tied in 4 squares wide, but the scheme shows that there are 3
    who has already tied sleeves 3 squares wide: tie the two upper squares together with two squares that are on the shoulders, and tie the third square halfway down, where the front and back are connected

    • @patapon828
      @patapon828 3 роки тому +1

      Just finished mine! Idk if u still need this info,, but basically:
      When you attach the sleeves to the cuff, there should be four square edges to fit on the cuff piece. Start by making small folds, sewing those onto the cuff. As you'll notice, after making those small folds, the square edge fits onto a smaller segment of the cuff. It takes a bit of trial and error, but you basically need to figure out what size folds you need to make to fit a quarter of the cuff by sewing on one square-- that way when you attach the rest of the three square edges, they'll fill up the rest of the three quarters space you have left for the cuff.
      Hopefully that helps!
