The spacecraft from 'The Body Stealers', is the Dalek saucer from the Amicus (as AARU) movie 'Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 AD'. There is, in one of the large format books about horror movies that I own, a still showing the catastrophic 'feedback' of the ending of the experiment in 'The Sorcerers' - that freaked me out for ages, when I saw it, as a kid.
'The Sorcerers' rings a bell - I might have seen it late night back in the day. Boris Karloff looks very much the distinguished older gentleman here. Great choices Terry. Have a nice weekend.
I remember this on TV billed as Thin Air. I'm an American who will always appreciate Maurice Evans as Dr. Zaius in the first Planet of the Apes movies and Rosemary's doomed friend Edward Hutchins in Rosemary's Baby. As for The Sorcerers, I am surely intrigued by a movie Karloff made just before Targets. (The plot reminds me a little of movies ranging from Brainstorm to Strange Days.) Thanks, Ter.
Hiya Terry ! Watched The Sorcerers on U tube on your recommendation. Not too many ads. It was friggin brilliant! Although Estelle turned out to be a weird one. Loved the car chase at the end. Good old fashioned English film making !
I love The Sourcerers. And while I know that the original subtext was probably the elderly generation in the sixties envying the apparent freedoms of the young at that time, I can't help but find a modern subtext: I know of people who are, in real life, sweet, gentle, law-abiding people, but when they play Grand Theft Auto they find a whole different side to themselves. Stealing cars and murdering prostitutes etc. Things they wouldn't dream of doing in real life. In a sense this is what happened to the Montserrats. Living their lives vicariously through an avatar, that wall of restraint is stripped away and they end up doing the sorts of things they wouldn't dream of doing normally. Estelle doesn't just get power, she loses self control. That's basically my interpretation of The Sourcerers: Boris Karloff and Catherine Lacey play Grand Theft Auto...
I have very good memories of _The Sorcerers._ (Old memories, though; I'll have to rewatch it.) A thoughtful, intelligent "psychological thriller" type movie that went places I wasn't expecting.
Another great post Terry. I agree with you on the cover artwork and I find myself wishing they would hire THOSE people to make the films rather than the "art directors" they got. It is also true for paperback cover art which is far more interesting than the sort inside. I just ran into Body Stealers on one of my streaming services. I was surprised I had never seen it before as it seemed like the typical "Rainy Saturday Afternoon" movie local stations used to show. I am glad I saw it at least once and agree with your review. I have never heard of The Sorcerers but will try and find it now. Thank you as always for expanding my boundaries.
I'd been thinking of collecting the Tigon horrors, after I was finished with Hammer and Amicus, but I don't want to miss out on these 88 releases. They look fantastic! Thanks for covering them! Going to the 88 Films website, now. 🙂
Hi Terry, I have picked up all the Tigon titles so far, I think 88 Films are doing an excellent job with this range, (Sean Longmore is the cover artist) there’s another Tigon film film due out on the 20th Jan called The Haunted House Of Horror. I’ve seen The Sorcerer but have yet to watch The Body Stealers. Nice one Terry, take care mate👍😃👍
You too,, Alan. Love your stuff. The 88 Films releases are great. Tempted by The Haunted House of Horror once I pay off the Black Friday sales haulage.
Good video I remember these too watching late on tv. I have get The Body Stealers, I got The Sorcerers, yeah interview was really interesting, it seems some of later Karloff works are coming out which is great, the film still works. I do have Doomwatch too, I had video copy of that with dumb cover of a skull and somewhat looking like Richard 'O Brien dark figure of Hamlet. Few interesting items that 88 films have released, need get Shout at the Devil.
I saw The Sorcerers. Good stuff. Also seen other Tigon films such as Witchfinder General, The Blood on Satan's Claws and Doomwatch (from the TV series). That Anglo horror cycle certainly is quite huge going beyond Hammer and even Amicus. Will look out for the other one.
I first saw The Sorcerors way back when I was about 12 or 13. Weaned on the lurid blood-laden output of Hammer Studios, I was pretty disappointed with The Sorcerors. That said, I rewatched it about a year ago and nowadays - with a more mature eye and with a lasting affection for both Boris Karloff and director Michael Reeves - I find it much more satisfying. I was pleasantly surprised when I last saw it. The Body Stealers I have not seen, which I'm ashamed about because I'm a fan of Rod Taylor and the movie itself is often seen doing the rounds on British television. The next time it airs I'm watching it.
I don't think I have heard of the Body Stealers before. After hearing about the plot, it sounds like yet another reason why there have been so many people who say they were abducted by aliens for ... harvesting of reproductive materials. Sad story about George Sanders. I remember him from his earlier movies from his earlier movies from the 1930s and 40s. It can be sad to see older actors working on some movies that don't seem seem very good or are stuck doing genre movies because Hollywood (and others) think they are washed up. Not because they are B movies or SF or horror, its just those may not be good or the roles are bad.
Want to see The Body Stealers now to hear Neil Connery's real voice. I love OK Connery but it was shot without sound and when time to do ADR he was in the hospital with appendix surgery. Tony Tenser gave us The Projected Man.
Connery's voice sounds like a softer version of Sean's. Tony Tenser's movies are wild. If you check his filmography, it's a banger of B grade amusing tat.
Tigon distributed a lot of rubbish but occasionally hit the target. "The Creeping Flesh" is one example. I've wanted to see "The Sorcerers" for quite some time. Michael Reeves was a real talent who died too young.
The Body stealers has (at least on paer ) a great cast, but never really rises above its b-movie credentials, once the initial mystery opening moves to the main plot. One thing of note was the use of the Dalek spaceship from the film version of the Invasion of Earth story. One the other hand the Sorcerors is a weird but very enjoyable bit of late 60's sci fi hokum, elevated by the presence of that true great, Boris Karloff. I think the difference between the two , is that in the Body Stealers the cast are dialling in their performances, whereas in the Sorcerors there appears to be a lot more committment to play it straight and get the best of what at heart is a mediocre story
I know Indicator/ Powerhouse put out some great releases. www.powerhousefilms.co.uk/collections/mexico?srsltid=AfmBOop0rQvWch11zHHkdzKJll0pe9BWn-kTZW1NPRPNBVt14WRevVOU

I can see how that scene could mess a kid around.
OMG, you're right. I thought it looked familiar.
I remember seeing that still in Famous Monsters around the time that the movie came out. Gruesome!at
'The Sorcerers' rings a bell - I might have seen it late night back in the day. Boris Karloff looks very much the distinguished older gentleman here. Great choices Terry. Have a nice weekend.
You too, Peter. The Sorcerers is well worth finding.

The Sorcerers is definitely worth checking out.
I remember seeing The Sorcerers when I was in my mid-teens. Never seen it since, but I remember really enjoying it. Great idea.
Give it another go! You'll enjoy it.
I remember that Tigon also released a film based from the old BBC Sci-Fi series called Doomwatch and it starred Ian Bannen.
I covered it on a previous video, 88 Films released it on blu-ray.

Yep. Dodgy old sedans. 🙂

It stands up well in the modern era.

Always happy to steer people to the good stuff. 😀

The Tigon Collection there is really interesting.
I saw The Body Stealers the first time late night on TV in the early 70's. Then about a year later I saw it as a B picture at a drive in theatre.
That's how it goes. There are multiple versions, some with the nudity cut out but the blu-ray release isn't censored.

Any movie with Lee Marvin in it is worth having.

88 Films have them and the prices are fairly good right now.
The Sorcerers sounds vaguely familiar. I may have seen it at a drive-in back in the late 1960s.
It would've really landed well in a drive-in . I'm glad 88 Films have released a good version of it, too.
Those movies give me Doctor Who (1963) vibes.
The space ship in The Body Stealers is from the Hammer Dr Who movies.
@terrytalksmovies How interesting.

Rod Taylor isn't in The Body Stealers. Patrick Allen is. 😀 Nonetheless, it's still worth tracking down.
Well, I'm stumped! I don't think I've seen either of these movies....
Time to get off your arse and watch them, Tim. 😉😀

Alien abductions are caused by one thing... mental illness.
I'm going to have to check out that Karloff movie
Enjoy!

@@terrytalksmovies Just ordered it! Thank goodness for region free players!

Karloff and Catherine Lacey really sell The Sorcerers.
It is a shame about Michael Reeves. His films were excellent and he had so many more in him
Very true.
Love The Sorcerers
It works on that low budget. Great stuff.
The Body Stealers, Devil Girl From Mars, Mars Needs Women... not a fertile lot on the red planet according to SF B movies.
They're not Martians. The aren't locals.
Terry, do you know of any of these small cinema companies that are specializing in some of the old Mexican flicks?
I know Indicator/ Powerhouse put out some great releases. www.powerhousefilms.co.uk/collections/mexico?srsltid=AfmBOop0rQvWch11zHHkdzKJll0pe9BWn-kTZW1NPRPNBVt14WRevVOU
nice!...the saint!
One of them.
