Ive been on private Servers like 15 years ago. Problem with this is. after a while you loose all your Progress, something happens, the guy shut down his Server, or a corrupted File, i had it all. and its far from fun to loose like 2 times about 2000 hours of Gameplay. that made me stop play private.
Been playing bothPlay both Turtle wow and Project Assention for the last 18 months and cannot praise them both enough for the work each developer has put in. Just try them even if it's just on a whim. Closely looking at Duskhaven too until the server issues died down..another exciting new project.
I tried leveling on Ascension, and it felt very similar to retail in that you could AoE down tons of mobs easily and they didn't feel dangerous. Is it like this at higher levels also, so that their HC challenge is very easy?
Ascension was a lot of fun but I think I fell out of love with it, used to PvP a whole lot (check my video for reference) but those sorts of days are over.
Leveling on Turtle is much quicker than in original Vanilla though: *Warmode increases all XP gains by 30 % *Tents maxes out your rested XP very quickly, doubling the XP you get from mobs (these tents are almost always up in Goldshire and Crossroads) *Early level mounts increases your movement speed by half of your level (you can buy them from the store, or do a quest at level 20 for a free turtle mount). So at level 20 you will have 10 % increased movement speed if you're on a mount *Tons of new quests translates to much quicker XP gains
you say dedicate to leveling, like that's something you dont wanna do nah man, leveling IS the game, and you play that as little or as lot as you want to. if you dont enjoy leveling or turtle's new leveling content, don't roll vanilla.
I'm a Turtle WoW fan for quite a while, but it also scares me how popular it is getting, not from a success or player standpoint, but from attracting Blizzard's attention too much and decides to hit it with a cease and desist. I could be totally wrong about what TW has in the way of protecting itself, but damn, I'd hate to see it get shut down after too much exposure that Bliz cannot ignore. Then we'd maybe get a mediocre version from them behind the paywall. No thanks. Like i said, IDK the reality of this, but it seems a lot like waving a red cape in front of the bull and then getting shocked when it charges at you. Double edged sword. Makes me nervous. TW had something like a peak 4K players on the other day from what I heard.
I guess all we can do is hope for the best and no one sells out or anything like that. I feel the passion of the devs on this way more than I have from Bliz in years.
I just want a fresh unchanged vanilla server like a fresh classic vanilla era every two years that is two years long. Me, as well as thousands will always play it.
To be honest, i never had such a good WoW experience as i had with official Classic, Season of Mastery, TBC and WOTLK - and the hardcore challenge lately. Good servers, good ping, many players and alot of fun! After years with shady and unsafe private server projects, pay2win elements and the constant fear of losing all my progress when the project gets shutdown - either by blizzard, team disputs or whatever - i value the the official classic. And i really hope they will expand on something like Classic+, a new Season of Mastery and other Classic-Expansions. May take some time, but its the same with every private server project that gets announced to eventually get released years later. The Cheater/bot-situation isnt really that much better on the private servers from my own experience. People just bot for themselves instead of selling to customers.
I get the appeal of private servers but I agree with you. Many private servers end up sketchy and I have had good experiences with the official Classic. Sure, WoTLK has bugs but otherwise it's been fun.
Turtlewow servers have been live for 5 years. you will lose your classic character to new expansions every 1,5 years untill it reaches cata where it will be shut down. Botting is 1000% times worse on retail classic there has never been a signle bot banned. on turtle wow they dont get past the starter zone before getting banned
I highly disagree with your last point. I've played warmane before and they are constantly banning bots. Why? Because they only lose from having bots in their game. Meanwhile, Blizzard profits from the subs that bots buy, so they keep them and ignore the "idiots" that will eat up anything with the Blizzard sticker, and the game just keeps getting worse and worse. It just shows an immense lack of respect for their fans, it's actually disgusting to me.
@@diogo4800 Everyone that has bought World of Warcraft Vanilla a second time in order to play it is an idiot that will eat up anything they're told to. Blizzard is the symptom, the scab. The consuming worm people are the problem, and should be the target of your disgust. Nothing can survive these people, as we've seen every franchise in gaming(and movies, and comics, and everything else) cynically, callously torched to the ground with total abandon as more and more product-starved human resource is corralled onto the internet to consume on an industrial scale over the past decade and a half. Gatekeep everything.
What about the vanilla plus server? I have gotten to 60 and played quite a bit on turtle or others mentioned, and it's quite nice to see new content although at the end of the day it's more or less still vanilla, although maybe a bit more casual/easier because you have more gear options. So as someone who cleared vanilla before it's not as entertaining as it could be, but v+ is like the only server i know which fully revamped talents and made the content hard (so it's not like the kinda ofdeal like primal wow where you get wotlk talents that makes the content trivial). And that alone makes me appreciate it more than just vanilla but new content.
Ascension is the best thing that could have ever happened to WoW, been playing on it for years, it's come a long way from the original idea of a survival sandbox WoW server to being a paradise for theorycrafting, rogue-like, sandbox RPG and PoE fans alike
Winter time, my thoughts. Usually play MMO in the winter these days although I really shouldn't be playing at all right now a little under the weather sounds like a nice vacation from my constant effort.
Project ascension is the best custom made server imo. They are constantly adding new stuff aka random enchants which completly overhaul the playstyle and open up so many ways to create your own build. For example you can combine arcane mage with balance druid spells and talents, or go ham with dual 2h weapon with windfury! Its awesome! Definetly worth checking out!
Turtle WoW is over 4k almost constantly now, which is great for finding groups, but it's causing some major lag. We're going to need a queue really soon.
Many private servers are much better quality than Blizzard's servers. Hell, I'm certain half of classic "population" are bots. I don't understand how people can play game like that. I've been on TWoW for months now, and the thing that kept me away from starting even earlier was shitty client. The worst thing when starting here is the fact that you have to get used to not having flashy addons like Weakauras, Details etc., For people that have monitors with higher Hz, they won't be able to fully use it, because client can't push it that far. Hell, in BWL i have roughly 30 FPS, on Vael fight i have like 5.... From time to time there are random game crashes aswell... But they did roughly good job with adding new stuff for certain classes, new zones, new quests etc. Theres a really nice increase in population recently and people are giving it a go. Everyone should give it a go, its free, may seem clunky and scuffed at the beginning but it's worth it. And for people that are thinking " I may lose my character overnight if this server shuts down " server is not going anywhere. And even if it does, how is it different from blizzards new expansions, you basicly lose your character, because it's not the same. Different playstyle, your gear that you "worked hard for" is not relevant anymore. It's basicly fresh start everytime new expansion comes. Just give private servers a go, you are not losing money by doing it ^^
the longevity of these servers makes me sad :( unfortunately as they continue to grow and gain traction blizzard's sauron lawyers will poof them away. so something like classic+ is inevitable
It's absolutely tragic what happened to Everlook. It was a 'for the players, by the players' type of server. But died because they failed to protect it via region locking. It's not an English server anymore, making it completely unusable.
I dont think that Twow is gonna have as hard as a falling off as everlook did. The difference I see is that I'm seeing NEW PLAYERS. I'm talking people who have never touched private servers, or even people who are new to WOW. A lot of people shit on the moderation being really strict, but imo it helps keep newer players. Twow just feels like a non-toxic experience for the most part, and the guild everyone joins immediatley is a great idea so people can ask for advice about both server specific stuff and WoW in general.
I never played vanilla back in its hay day as I started playing in wod prepatch so this is like a simulation of that experience for me right now playing on turtle. I just can't stand the vanilla client and the lack of qol changes that wrath brought with it. Fishing is kind of a pain where you can't just fish anywhere to level up the skill. And there's no modern resolution support. So you're limited to 720p stretched mode. I also hate having to type in my password everytime. Tauri fixed this a few years back and I wish other servers would as well. The lack of questie also hurts but we've got pfquest which is very similar. They need to shorten mob spawn timers. They've just done this for quest npcs though so I'm happy. The population is poppin and healthy. We saw 4k nerds on a few days ago.
The whole ideas of classic + is fundamentally flawed. Blizz trying to fix vanilla is how retail ended up how it did. Maybe people didn't really want vanilla they just liked the idea of it.
Just started on duskhaven 2 days ago now I usually play dwarf so I know Coldridge valley eyes closed lol and to see new little buildings or passageways to behind the mountains there just buzzed me out ended up exploring starter zone 1st 2hrs lol
What do you do on a classic server? Just roll alts endlessly? Do they wipe so you start all over every few months? I’m genuinely curious because it seems like it would get boring.
Best thing with private servers. They are free to play and always international which is huge. Sucks to not be able to play with friends from US without paying double subs.
Great video and I agree completely. I said as much on Nixxiom's video about what Blizzard should do with regards to Classic+ stuff - we really do not need them. We already have everything he listed that he would like to see. There's nothing added with the Blizzard oversight, so there's no need for it. Passionate pserver devs will do a better job curating a smaller community than Blizzard will when it comes to curatings a game played by millions of people.
Great video, but why not mention Vanilla+ server as well? It's a great v+ server, but population is kinda low now so it would be great to get some new players
Duskhaven with a peak of 700 ppl today! join guys it rly is great! pop is rising day by day! TurtleWoW is great i played there for 2 years nothing but love for the team! but the changes are noting compared to Duskhaven it takes vanilla+ to the next lvl
As someone that loves cata, sadly Whitemane is a joke of a server. If they'd done it well it could have been so good. But it's sadly one of the cashgrabs he was talking about :(
I know I've said it before, but Vanilla Plus is such a great private server. It gives the adventure of classic, with a whole new talent system. Like, I leveled an assassination rogue to lvl 40 something and the unfair advantage talent is such a cool concept 30% reduced stats on enemies and 30% additional agility to you. That's crazy fun to use and I'd love to have some world pvp, but the server only ever has like 20 people online. Turtle WoW dipped into talent changes, but no where near as far as Vanilla Plus did.
This is one of my main complaints so far about Turtle WoW, I really wish they made more drastic changes regarding the talents. I checked the hunter talents with a standard 1.12 talent calculator and I see 0 differences, so I have nothing new in regards to talents to look forward to. Turtle WoW content with Vanilla+ talents would be awesome
Love ur work dude ! I really do hope that Turtle fix some issues that’s been around since 2018 rather than adding more store options. AV and the custom battleground have been broken forever which makes pvp and a large portion of content dead. I really do wanna dust off my Pre raid bis High elf warrior again
I think the rise will continue and not slow down because we are in classic wrath atm, and there are only 2 patches left and then its over, NO ONE is hyped for classic cata so i think alot of people will join private servers after wotlk is over or already are because they now classic wotlk is almost over
People dont realize that tencent owns majority of every single major gaming studio in the world. And that's fairly recent. But based in China and starting to force cash grab games there's the success was wild..and so they bought majority of stakes in Western companies and forced them to do cash grab versions of their games and here we are... The games are earning more and losing players because it's not about paying a monthly fee and having a great time. It's about paying a monthly fee then being tricked into paying another 20-200 dollars a month depending on how addicted to spending money you are. (With 60% less players that's still record profits)
Server location. Most private servers are hosted in countries with less strict copyright laws and jurisdictions that will pretty much ignore cease & desist letters. There are areas in Europe and Asia that are pretty much safe havens for private servers. Seeing how many private servers there are for various games nowadays I wouldn't worry about the threat of them being shut down out of nowhere.
The main issue with private servers is that they're all overseas. So I get a minimum of 170 latency. If I could get a normal (60 or lower) latency, they would actually be good.
if your living in Armerica or Canada and it says above 100 Ping then your not really lagging unless it is visable on your screen otherwise your connection is good and its just showing the ping being 100 when really you might be getting 60 or 50 ping and this is probably towards the server side
Anything that Acti Blizz touches from this point on when it comes to classic is always going to be a watered down version of what it used to be, And on top of that the metality of people being heavly influenced by meta gaming which more and more private servers communities seemingly are leaning into as well lately. Now there's nothing wrong with enjoying the game in this matter in general for sure, But I think that it's pretty much a given at this point that it does create a more toxic enviroment just in general and not only for those that are new to WoW but veterans as well that just cba to "adapt". At this point I do think that not only new content added to the game but a more sandbox endgame progression would be something that would benefit the private server scene.
Sadly once everyone got to 60 on Duskhaven they left because all the raids had been made ''custom'' meaning they were a butcherd mess. The dungeon + content was fun tho.
Anything that Activision/Blizzard releases will never reach it's full potential, and Activision/Blizzard will only care about you as a gamer, in so only as much as how much money they can make from you, that's because when Blizz originally merged with Activation back during the end stages of BC, Blizzard as a company went from a company being ran by gamers, to a company that's been ran by accountants that were brought on board for the last 10+ years this is why the original co-founder of Blizzard Mike Morhaime decided to leave his own company and start a whole new one.
Blizzard is so rigid and afraid to try new stuff that they're killing themselves. They thought SoM was different, but it was basically the exact same shit lmao. They need to try some different things like seasonal servers or vanilla+ with conceptual content.
They're far too big and their ideas too decentralized to ever have novel concepts or any semblance of passion. Their run by shareholders who look at popular gaming features and that's what's implemented. End of story.
i feel north America doesn't want to play P servers because the ping is too damn high. that is my personal reason. on top of the fact that a server can just shut down at any time.
Really, what I've been doing lately feels like I did 30 years ago. Going from MUD to MUD checking them out. Once certain MUD platforms became public (DIKUmud, etc) -- lots of people were making their own. You had so much variety -- and someone were better than others. On Blizzard's part -- at this point, they should leave private servers alone. Most of these Pservers have better control over their platforms, and are better positioned to respond to bots/exploits/etc. Blizzard has proven time and time again that they rarely act on bad actors. Could Blizzard have a classic+ server/content? Yes, they could find stories within the grand narrative...but they'll still have the same lack of GM/admin support.
I loved playing on Light's Hope, but Everlook has really soured my taste for private servers. The server is made up almost entirely of chinese bots, and the mods are working with them to sell gold on the server. Also had a druid, tele on me and death touch me over and over after I killed some alliance. Pretty sure this was also a mod.
there was a reason we kept shouting at people to not go to everlook, we knew it was gonna be a shit awful server. seriously turtle is nothing like that man, the chineese cant use turtle's modded enUS 1.12 client so they dont exist at all here, its fantastic

7:03 wat was wrong with Everlook? I thought it was blizzlike vanilla server 🤔
Retail is for the new generation of players, for the older generation it's not our home anymore.
Ascension was a lot of fun but I think I fell out of love with it, used to PvP a whole lot (check my video for reference) but those sorts of days are over.
project ascension is very unbalanced and meta-centered, not to mention it's shady asf, the devs are very unprofessional. srsly dont play it
@@BenDover-gc4xs the warlord xecc videos about acension, although old, have left me unable to trust the people behind ascension.
@@BenDover-gc4xs Is it P2W too? If so, how?
Have you tried Conquest of Azeroth by Ascension HW?
Been a fan of Ascension since season3 - awesome idea and execution.
Have to checkout Duskhaven and Turtle.
By all means do it! :)
Main reason i would like offical classic+ servers, is that I'm sick of playing with 350 ping from Australia
im really itching for some classic wow again. Might try giving turtle wow another shot
wasn't turtlewow part of the Shenna stuff?
i really love the idea of classic+ pservers but sadly i don't have the time to dedicate to levelling let alone to playing as much as i'd like to
Leveling on Turtle is much quicker than in original Vanilla though:
*Warmode increases all XP gains by 30 %
*Tents maxes out your rested XP very quickly, doubling the XP you get from mobs (these tents are almost always up in Goldshire and Crossroads)
*Early level mounts increases your movement speed by half of your level (you can buy them from the store, or do a quest at level 20 for a free turtle mount). So at level 20 you will have 10 % increased movement speed if you're on a mount
*Tons of new quests translates to much quicker XP gains
Vanillas and especially turtle is about the journey. No rush enjoy azeroth
you say dedicate to leveling, like that's something you dont wanna do
nah man, leveling IS the game, and you play that as little or as lot as you want to.
if you dont enjoy leveling or turtle's new leveling content, don't roll vanilla.
I guarantee you they have already received multiple C&Ds
@@casko9626 I give turtle wow a couple of months from now, its been getting alot of traction lately, blizz wil shit it down 10000%
@@diogo4800 Everyone that has bought World of Warcraft Vanilla a second time in order to play it is an idiot that will eat up anything they're told to.
I'd love to try Turtle wow but it wont let me log in. Ive tried resetting my password and everything. It doesnt work.
Dude, I had no idea what you were talking about at the start of the video. That guild chat was amazing 😆
Where is the server located?
What server are you playing on in the video?
Ascension is the best thing that could have ever happened to WoW, been playing on it for years, it's come a long way from the original idea of a survival sandbox WoW server to being a paradise for theorycrafting, rogue-like, sandbox RPG and PoE fans alike
They should make classic wow open source and let people mod it, that would be crazy
Your minimap being unsorted infers that you're an absolute maniac.
can anyone recommend a wotlk custom private server? I loved playing in Northrend
Pretty sure I had a Thunderfury on Duskhaven, might log back in next week.
Winter time, my thoughts. Usually play MMO in the winter these days although I really shouldn't be playing at all right now a little under the weather sounds like a nice vacation from my constant effort.
Turtle WoW Gang🪳🐢
Project ascension is the best custom made server imo.
They are constantly adding new stuff aka random enchants which completly overhaul the playstyle and open up so many ways to create your own build. For example you can combine arcane mage with balance druid spells and talents, or go ham with dual 2h weapon with windfury! Its awesome!
Definetly worth checking out!
Turtle WoW is over 4k almost constantly now, which is great for finding groups, but it's causing some major lag. We're going to need a queue really soon.
Solo craft is fun if anyone’s been on that one
Im currently playing ascension and i like the fast pace. twow seems nice but i just dont have the time to play on classic rates
Just give private servers a go, you are not losing money by doing it ^^
Just use an updated client for a big graphics/model boost, and the LAA program for fixing wow critical errors.
Not sure why you think Everlook fell off, it still gets 7k+ peaks on weekends.
the longevity of these servers makes me sad :( unfortunately as they continue to grow and gain traction blizzard's sauron lawyers will poof them away. so something like classic+ is inevitable
It's absolutely tragic what happened to Everlook. It was a 'for the players, by the players' type of server. But died because they failed to protect it via region locking. It's not an English server anymore, making it completely unusable.
What's a good server for expansions past vanilla through to wotlk at this point?
Oceanic War server
is world pvp enabled?
I dont think that Twow is gonna have as hard as a falling off as everlook did. The difference I see is that I'm seeing NEW PLAYERS. I'm talking people who have never touched private servers, or even people who are new to WOW. A lot of people shit on the moderation being really strict, but imo it helps keep newer players. Twow just feels like a non-toxic experience for the most part, and the guild everyone joins immediatley is a great idea so people can ask for advice about both server specific stuff and WoW in general.
Twow always had a healthy leveling pop even though its phase 6, cant really think of any other server like that imo.
Everlook did not even fall off. I have no idea where that line of reasoning came from. It still gets 7k peaks on weekends.
@@Kreegz 9k, yeah its laggy, but I hope they fix it....
Epoch is looking way better than Turtle or Duskhaven, seems silly not to link to it as it has a proven track record with the first beta
It's just that full release is way off
@@Jp808 fair enough, but the second beta is pretty soon
I've been playing a mists of pandaria private server and enjoying it a hell of a lot more than their cakewalk version of wotlk
The whole ideas of classic + is fundamentally flawed.
Blizz trying to fix vanilla is how retail ended up how it did.
Maybe people didn't really want vanilla they just liked the idea of it.
Would love to play turtle wow but heared pvp there is unalive :(. thats complete dealbreaker for me.
The population had risen dramatically, I guess it'll be fine. You can always level with warmode on, that sure will draw some attention to pvp.
Dont worry, lvl 60 rogues will kill you in most zones if you turn WM on.
People are busy grey-killing all day long, that's why :D
Every pvp encounter i've had is a lvl 60 oneshotting me, but im 19 and soon to encounter other players of my level.
Join us in activating Warmode and keep the world pvp alive!
They don't wipe, they just keep adding changes.

Best thing with private servers. They are free to play and always international which is huge.
Sucks to not be able to play with friends from US without paying double subs.
my problem with these servers is the ping. living in australia, best case is like 150ms.. its not fun to play on that much ms.
Hey mate, join Oceanic War server
Great video.
Preach!
700? Thats awesome!
funny seeing ret pallys can get Duel Wield i love it
If there was a real vanilla 2.0 it would be Cata. I've been playing on Whitemane and loving it.
As someone that loves cata, sadly Whitemane is a joke of a server. If they'd done it well it could have been so good. But it's sadly one of the cashgrabs he was talking about :(
Nahhh
Are you kidding me. in cata they removed all of the good things from the old wow. you may as well just play retail at that point.
turtles are awesome :)
This evening was insane we had an 800 Player peak :>>>>
Love ur work dude ! I really do hope that Turtle fix some issues that’s been around since 2018 rather than adding more store options. AV and the custom battleground have been broken forever which makes pvp and a large portion of content dead.
I really do wanna dust off my Pre raid bis High elf warrior again
Tw is amazing as long you don't play pvp I hope they fix the pvp
Private servers will always lack a following because they don't allow bots. People don't have time to grind to levels and gold.
vanilla plus in my heart
I think the rise will continue and not slow down because we are in classic wrath atm, and there are only 2 patches left and then its over, NO ONE is hyped for classic cata so i think alot of people will join private servers after wotlk is over or already are because they now classic wotlk is almost over
No, they do not wanna play with 60%bot pop and report abuse
i'm hella excited for classic cata 😊😊
Why?
People dont realize that tencent owns majority of every single major gaming studio in the world. And that's fairly recent. But based in China and starting to force cash grab games there's the success was wild..and so they bought majority of stakes in Western companies and forced them to do cash grab versions of their games and here we are... The games are earning more and losing players because it's not about paying a monthly fee and having a great time. It's about paying a monthly fee then being tricked into paying another 20-200 dollars a month depending on how addicted to spending money you are. (With 60% less players that's still record profits)
Serious question. What's stopping blizzard from shutting down these private servers?
most ran by russians. Blizzard have no legal attacks they can use. Nost was US/France based and was vulnerable, same with gummy's attempt.
Quality guild chat.
i tried downloading duskhaven 4 times and it always fails at like 90% and fuck thats anoying
Dwarf shammy on duskhaven
Duskhaven just had over 1000 players
It's funny you mention it because I just finally hit 60 about half an hour ago and I'm looking forward to the Endgame content if I have time to see it
We need a populated Vanilla+ Server. Sucks no one liked it "cuz it wasn't netA"
Turtle wow is over 4000 and Duskhaven is getting close to 1000, we're getting there :)
is Turtle Wow for free?
Anything that Activision/Blizzard releases will never reach it's full potential, and Activision/Blizzard will only care about you as a gamer, in so only as much as how much money they can make from you, that's because when Blizz originally merged with Activation back during the end stages of BC, Blizzard as a company went from a company being ran by gamers, to a company that's been ran by accountants that were brought on board for the last 10+ years this is why the original co-founder of Blizzard Mike Morhaime decided to leave his own company and start a whole new one.
If you need an OCE home, Oceanic War is good
Blizzard is so rigid and afraid to try new stuff that they're killing themselves.

Yea it feels like the company is on auto pilot.
i feel north America doesn't want to play P servers because the ping is too damn high. that is my personal reason. on top of the fact that a server can just shut down at any time.
I just miss kronos and outland. Such good servers
I play both but prefer Dusk. Just not a fan of 1.12
43 people on DH when I downloaded it and 19 when I logged off. 3 horde when there were 43 so...if you want bgs run horde if the pop climbs. A group was trying to run Sm but had no one that level. Turtle had over 4k the past few days but the majority of the newcomers it feels like are tweens on chat. Haven't had chat on for the last 3 days.
DH does seem like a more mature pop.
