I'm really just loving your channel and videos as they are a reassurance as well as a mirror to many of my own improvised decisions to venture into the many casmz and endless rabbit holes I've found myself venturing into ever since my first artistic adventure involving natural stone. While lapidary is not the field I'd been delving into, it was a stones throw away from the many projects I was and would continue working on for the past several years. I have and still collect, cut, and even catch myself sanding/polishing hundreds of rocks I find interesting or curiously unfamiliar. So often it is just to get even more familiar with materials and learn directly about the different myriad of minerals and raw stone combinations that initially had me so hooked on them as a medium. Your practices and "primitive" approach is all too familiar and clearly the effectiveness has not (in my eyes) been severely compromised. I remain experimental and self learning in most of my stone working, and what I've seen from you and this great rookie rockhounding titled channel is by far the best and most comfortable source of knowledge that I have come to find hands down. Going to keep coming back for all the terrific content and enjoyable work that you've done here! Thanks again 🙏
My goodness thank you so very very much for your genuinely kind words my friend. I think one of the things I’ve loved most and will continue to value about the UA-cam experience so far, is being seen. Not just watched but it’s more like from comments like this, that I can tell someone has actually seen why I love doing what I love, but it’s the greatest praise because it’s from someone who knows the joy of being themselves in doing what they love. Sounds whimsical and gushy but from one creative brained person to another, thank you for seeing “me” 😊 God I hope that didn’t sound as conceded as I feel like it may have 😬🤦♂️😂 I think I meant it just feels good to freely be me and have others appreciate me being me haha
Jesse! I have polished rocks just like you for a number of years now. I must tell you that I have never used the word "breathtaking" to describe a rock .......until today. Your final polish rock was indeed BREATHTAKING. Congrats on having such a beauty.
I love Aussies and the make-do attitude! Two different, cheaper ways to polish rocks than dedicated machines to do it. Well done! And the rocks are beautiful ... magnificent!
Finally I know how I'll set up an area for polishing rocks with my angle grinder! Thank you for the demonstration with Pauly's system. You both got great results with it!
I'm glad you did a collaboration with Paulie, awesome and some great tips too. Before we had a flat lap we used the angle grinder as well. Really like the supports Paulie created really fun and cool rocks too!
Jesse! All of these are stunning! My gosh! I remember gasping right along with you when you found that rock with the jelly carnelian in it. Such a stunner. Pauly's "everything rock" was just that. And your friend's little palm stone was adorable too! Just in awe of the beauties you find and the care with which you treat them. Until next time! ❤❤
It’s great to see that I can polish petrified wood! I literally have been wondering this all week! I have looked and looked and everything that I find is saying different things! Thank you so much!!
I love how creative Pauly is with the angle grinder set up! It goes to show that you do not need to spend copious amounts of money to get started with lapidary. You can tell from the fabulous polish that it does the job and does it VERY well. Good job guys!
Oh man Kyle “Mild” Kyle, dude he’s been telling me to try this for ages and legit, all it comes down to is being creative with what he’s got. That’s not to say we both wouldn’t LOVE to have some wheels to work on. But one day dude, one day… 🤪 Thanks for poppin by brother! Hope all is well in your neck of the woods dude! 🤘
I think you have the best finds and I love the passion you have for each find. It blows my mind how different rocks are over that way compared to where I live here in Michigan. Thanks for sharing again!
Thanks CMC, yeah we are super spoilt out here, but if you haven’t, check out @michigan rocks, he’s over there and finds some beauties. The man is a legend!!!
Hey Jessie! Saw this video where Pauly is teaching you how to do rock face polishing via his method. And using those D-pads also. Wow! I'm impressed what a person can do when they set their mind to it! It's rustic, inexpensive, it's cool, it's resourceful! And in today's world, anything that will keep a mate, or a Sheila from draining the retirement fund is in my book, is a clear WINNER! I'll have to remember this technique if I ever get the time to Pretend To Be Retired! Slab-on!

I checked it!😃 Sent you one back... I am so stoked I can't even express what I'm feeling! Thank you Pauly! I will be looking out for it and will let you know right away when it gets here. So so so much love to you bro! Big smiles on my face. 😊💖
Absolutely stunning peices ,I'm from Scotland ,so don't just trip over rocks like that, usually just half bricks and stuff ,fantastic work aswell, thankyou.
Before I ever found this page I did the same thing with those polishing pads that go on hand sanders - I love turquoise and turquoise is very sensitive to heat and working without water can burn and damage the turquoise - I learned this the hard way 😅😅😅
I purchased a used one as the piece is a bit pricey, but the machine ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxG6fbm3cHBd7CNTjk5D-dwYe9c9tCB9ZN has surpassed my expectations. We sand small parts by hand often, sized around 1"x1/2," and specifically look for a piece that's designed to be vertical. The motor has plenty of torque and great speed settings. The only inconvenience I had is that the disk measures 5" where we trim 6" stick-and-sand disks down easily by mounting it then cutting with a box cutter.
I use a vise and put the grinder in like a flat lap but I've been holding the grinder and rock in my hands, I'm going to try out the ways in this video too. Great video ❤
Just loving Pauly’s ingenuity on another way to polish the beauties that you all collect and enjoy so much, Jesse. They turned out to be so lovely. Nice specimens mates! 👏👏👏🥰👏👏👏
I’m glad I watched this video…or watched it enough to get the basic concept. I had the idea to use a power tool but I wasn’t quite sure how to carry out my plan. Thanks for the great ideas guys!
Really great. Gets you in, doesn't it? I used to be in a lap club in Melbourne, then l went to NMIT and got my Diploma and my Advanced Diploma. Qualified now as a jeweller. Love precious stones too.
I'm vlogger and GEM Hunter also Sir I like your video more lesson to learn about processing gemstone ❤❤❤as New lapidary artist Philippines I like this channel ❤❤
That flow banded jasper that pauly found looks so much like the picture jasper here in oregon! I didnt even know there was anything remotely close in resemblance to picture jasper found anywhere else! so cool. Your thunderegg turned out top shelf, Im sure it looks even better in person. 3 years was worth the wait!
just goes to show you dont need all these expensive tools to make a rock look beautiful. If your on a budget, you get creative and you make it work just as well :)
These are stunning! I’m studying the fossils of crinoids (sea lilies), which it appears that I have everywhere in my area. I think the time period I’m looking at is Middle Devonian- around 383-393 million years ago. It looks to me like you might have a lot of crinoids in your area as well! Definitely nature’s art! ❤
Oh you’d love watching a friend of mines channel, his names @Theo Kellison and he’s just opened my eyes up to fossils after years of picking up pretty rocks! I can’t believe how many fossils I’ve probably walked over in my time and I can’t help but look at the ground differently now 😅
The way you described being a little person standing inside the rock. Your imagination was seeking Heaven. The Bible describes it as being made up of many layers of different precious stone.... go look ❤️🕊 Gates of pearl, streets of gold and read about the walls etc. Great video 🥰 Loved Pauly’s idea 👍🏻
Gday from Germany. Thanks for your practical vid. I like your useful ideas and practical approaches. Was looking for rock polishing with wet angle grinder. Thats when i came across your video Ive recently been rock hunting in east Germany for amethyst, agate, carneol etc and found shitloads (250kgs) of interesting rocks. They're mostly glazed/crusted with iron oxide etc so im using oxalic acid and base to remove quite successfully. This gives a clearer pic of how they look inside and u get a better understanding of the overall complexion. I bought a Vevor wet angle grinder costs a third of Makita; yet have to find out how long it lasts I find yr method practical for large to medium sizes. Smaller ones I'll do on a simple steel axle with some grinding wheels on it. Like a budget Cab King for under 300€. To fix small stones i prefer dopsticks i make from nails, screws, metal rods etc. To fix the rocks securely i use the gd ole superglue. Once u done u lay it a short while in acetone to soften the glue. I build my first opal cutting/polishing machine after i prospected in lighting Ridge in the late 80s. Never attempted any big bastard-rocks 🤪 but since i now found 10-20kgs Amethyst/calcedon rocks i have to approach on a much larger scale. Same as you, i dont see any reason, why i should spend heaps of cash on expensive brand gear when i can build it myself for a fraction of it. A great option to source cheap second hand machines n gear is via ebay classifieds here in Germany. Already found a solid 3 phase stonesaw table with a strong motor powering a moveable 60cm blade. Cost me 80€ (without blade) Cheers, Rob
Love the spirit, work with what you got is what I do best. Love Pauly's setup. I'll have to check out his channel to see his side of your guys adventures. These rocks turned out gorgeous, great work guys! Sausage looks good too!
Hiya Jessie, awesome awesome job on the stones and on the video, and nice job Pauly 👍, you both have beautiful stones. I hope you and Pauly have a rad blessed day mate. Cya! 😺🐟out!
Thannnnnkkkkk youuuuuuu Catfishh!!!! I’ve been terrible at getting back to people on here of late but just wanted to say thank you for all your support my friend! Thank you 😁
I have been so happy to find your video. These methods are so clever and gives those of us the ability to polish our rock's without buying expensive lapidary equipment! Thanks guy's you rock! Lol
Hi Jess, a couple o& nice pieces that you and Paul have polished up nicely. I do remember you and Benny cutting those rocks and thinking at the time that the saw could leave some score marks in them though in the end they worked out really nicely. Keep Safe & Keep Rockin
G’day mate!!!! Oh man, no you’re absolutely right, they were some super deep grooves 😖🤦♂️ I wouldn’t recommend it haha! But thanks mate. Hope you’re keeping well and have a rad week ahead brother. Was talking to Pauly about you today! 😁
They turned out awesome! Thanks for showing me some options on how to polish my stones! I have the sanding pads, wife bought for me, but I haven't been able to do anything yet but hopefully I can in a few weeks! Thanks for sharing!
This my fine friend is one of those things looking at his ingenuity, you go wwwhhaattt! Why didn't I think of it! 🤯 Beautiful pieces bud! I will be pinching this set up😊 thank Pauley for sharing, even if he doesn't know. Great video!!
Dude those are freaking awesome!😱 the druzy on the back of that agate is just waaaay too cool! Talk about an amazing display specimen😁 my gosh that big thunderegg though! Man that thing has a little bit of everything! What an interesting setup too! Man im gonna have to look into that🤣 awesome video as always my friend!😁
Thank you theo mate, yeah these are pretty rad for bigger stones. Not gonna give a polish like a flat lap or lap machine but it’s goes alright 🤪 Cheers brother!!!!!!!
Thank you! This was awesome! Love the set ups. Thank you Pauly. Would really like to see you go back and do more! Your Carnelian stone is breathtaking 🤩 I end up with divots from the pads when using those to polish. Any advice how to avoid that issue? Thanks for the 🎥 Stay Crystal 💫
Thanks for this video, I'm disabled & need a hobby so I've thrown myself into learning as much as possible about all the rocks I've collected over the yrs + the new ones I'm finding on our new property. Wasn't long before I wanted to start cutting & polishing them.... until I saw the prices for the used lapidary equipment!!😟 Been thinking about how I could use a handheld sander to polish (this video helps a lot) now I just have to figure out the saw situation (saw some tile saws that are not too expensive but not sure they'll work for larger rocks). Any tips by anyone would be greatly appreciated (btw I'm a short female so giant sized items prob ain't gonna work for me lol). Thanks again for this video!🤩
Hi five mates!🤚 Love the setup... Love the lesson... Love the rocks... And love you guys. This was just fantastic! GREAT shine✨ I have to say... It was so cool to see the recap of the big epic concrete saw with you and Benny... I remember that so well! Haha Good times! And I remember you finding that piece two years ago... Omg it's been that long😋 but dang dude... Worth the wait... So Bea-u-ti-ful! That's a top shelf piece right there. Cheers to a job well done!
Oh yeah Mar! You would have seen each of those times as they happened. OG from the beginning 😉 It was just so pretty inside. I need to do the other side too but we ran out of time that day. It was so much fun polishing with a mate. DMing you ASAP! Promise!
@@Rookie_Rockounding 😃💓 I checked it... Omg I'm doing a happy dance right now💃 I cannot wait! Thanks bro! I'm out to buy some depends just in case I 💩 myself hahaha... Just kidding😅

I love the wood clamp/jig method, will have to try that, thanks for sharing! Diesel is such a handsome, happy boy!
Oh man, Pauly has inspired me to pull my finger out and make a jig here at home. And dude, how genuinely happy is Diesel!? Such a good helper hound!
I just bought a double barre tumbler. I’m already addicted to the sound of my stones tumbling.
Watching this again in preparation for my first polishing with the grinder
Ohhhhh! Awesome! Wishing you the finest of polishes Julie 😊✨

Thank you my friend! We have some beauties out here hey, hope you’re keeping well Green As!

My husband and I just discovered your channel and LOVE how you cut and polish! I would love to send you some Arkansas stones to see what you would do with them. We were both born and raised within a reasonable driving distance to the only public access diamond mine (Murfreesboro, AR) in the US and have been multiple times. A lot of schools take kids there on field trips yearly. We now live in an area of the state that is not far from a great geod / crystal site where you can go and find really awsome treasures. I love that big thunder egg. Seems like it was worth the wait. You got a great polish on it.
Oh man I’m so sorry I missed this Rob! Yeah that one is one of my favourites. Just so pretty 😊
Don’t know how I missed this video! Glad it showed up in my feed! Beautiful rocks!

The barrel grinding enclosure is awesome!
I've found out some of my finfernail tool can polish small rocks well. My square nail buffer gives tumbled rock a nice quick glossy finish
Absolutely stunning peices ,I'm from Scotland ,so don't just trip over rocks like that, usually just half bricks and stuff ,fantastic work aswell, thankyou.

I have been so happy to find your video. These methods are so clever and gives those of us the ability to polish our rock's without buying expensive lapidary equipment! Thanks guy's you rock! Lol
Thanks AWESOME! Gods art work....Thanks Paulie
Oh man, no you’re absolutely right, they were some super deep grooves 😖🤦♂️
I wouldn’t recommend it haha!

Wow thats so amazing waiting so long and how beautiful it comes out. Awesome
Thanks Vivid23 D. 😁
GREAT shine✨
I have to say...
OG from the beginning 😉
It was just so pretty inside. I need to do the other side too but we ran out of time that day. It was so much fun polishing with a mate. DMing you ASAP! Promise!
Ohhh also Pauly said to check your email, possibly junk email, he has something for you!
