Yes, it's a tv show. But the characters were emotionally abusive. Also, the anger I'm seeing in the comments is that her parents promised they'd pay for at least part of it and then never told her they changed their minds until it was too late. You know I never noticed the first time around so much, but watching the reruns I now realise just how predatory Ross was, posing as a masseuse to trick a woman into getting undressed in his apartment and the way he calls for Rachel just cos he sees her naked in her apartment, it’s grotesque behaviour and Joey with Janine is almost watchable, too. When he takes the shower curtain down and puts the heat up in his apartment to encourage Janine to walk around in her underwear, it’s awful behaviour.
Her dad was more ignorant, he at least took further steps, such as seeing how she was after she broke up with Richard or when he gave her his porche. Her mother is a bitch.
the fact that they were fine planning on paying for the wedding between their youngest child and their friend who's basically their age but it never even crossed their mind that Chandler might propose is honestly so weird

i always imagined that Jack and Judy payed lip service to baby Erica and Jack, because they were adopted, and didn't treat them that great. saying things like "My daughter adopted the babies, she can't have any of her own" like it was a bad thing, or they were lesser babies, and when Monica and Chandler fell naturally, and it can happen and the couple were overjoyed because now they were having a third. Jack and Judy did the full on "baby shower, gender reveal, and bragging about their real grandbaby" and after that, Monica and Chandler cut them both off. and jack geller bing. who was about six decided to go by his middle name Daniel. because grandpa didn't love him the geller bing family of eventually five, won't allow toxic people in their lives.
Yeah, but by the series finale I don't think Chandler would have let Judy or Jack say anything nasty to Monica or the kids. He would draw a line saying "Those are my family you're talking about ". And probably cut ties with them in later years
I think Jack would be great to his grand babies (although he would definitely still say stupid stuff about them being adopted). But he and Monica made peace. She named her son Jack. She did not name her daughter Judy. 😂

Their parents really show no respect to Monica when they said 'we thought you would pay after 30' and it was very clear that they didn't love her when they had double standard for ross
I remember someone did an estimation on the rent for Monica’s apartment in central New York. Was something like $4k per month and chandlers was $3k per month. In short they both would have needed 3X that in salary as a general rule which mean Monica needed to earn about $150k per year. So it’s just Hollywood being unrealistic. I mean we watch films about alien superhero’s based on Norse legends these days so best to have a bit of artistic flexibility. This point was was too long and over explained. @@wallygropius4451 nice attention to detail also. Just realised that chandlers salary would be hard to determine since he is a “transponster” so he could well be earning over 140k per annum

Even I agree with your viewpoint but if my parents paid for my brother's wedding and then refused me for mine then I would certainly know who they value more.
You can see the use of their multi camera setup at 2:18 when it's focused on Chandler and Monica's mouth is moving and then it pans to Monica and you can see the slight head turn chandler just did from a different angle.
That's why monica and chandler deserves each other. They fill each other's void that their respective parents created.. They both have issues about their parents that only they can understand about each other..
I don't get it. They spent Monica's wedding fund to buy a beach house when she was only 23 and they kept on taunting her about her marriage. What if she decided to get married at age 24 when she didn't have that much of a career? How the hell did they expect her to afford it? So it's a good thing that she married late (when she turned 30) because they expected her to pay for her own wedding so I don't think she deserved any of those pressure and taunts about marriage.
Never understood why her parents mean bad to her. But atleast her father gifted her thd Porsche. That's the least he did for her after eating up her wedding fund and ruining all her childhood memories but still better than her mom.
This episode was infuriating. Chandler was 100% Correct, spending tens of thousands of dollars is just ridiculous and stupid. It makes me angry how entitled the women in that episode were, that they just demanded him to pay for the wedding with all of his savings. Infuriating! And this kind of stuff sets a standard in people's heads that is just self destructive.
Right? I've probably seen every episode ten times, and I don't even remember Monica's wedding. Been to one wedding and you've been to them all. Chandler should have said "Oh HELL no! I'm out. Get the NEXT guy to pay for your Barbie doll wedding." Ever notice how much happier he was in the first couple seasons?
Monica talking but no sound at 2:19 then we get the same scene right after but this time the camera focuses on her :p... A lot of TV Series butchered their HD versions :D !
That's one of the biggest problems I've had with Friends, even before the widescreen versions. They would take reaction shots a half to full second later than it happened in real time. Depending on the angle, you could see the actor having the same reaction twice. It's always off putting when I see it.
@@OneLoveRSR I know… and I agree but it’s also a reality for many other TV Series from the late 90s / early 2000s ! I think Judy manipulated Jack into buying the house, she didn't want her owm daughter to be marry and to be happy: There is an episode when Judy tells Monica that her own mother was awful to her; she almost confessed that that's the reason he treated Monica so poorly: because Judy wants Monica to suffer like she did. I know this is supposed to be funny but it is very interesting to talk about.
I love "Friends" it's very funny and always makes me laugh, but with this episode I've always wandered, what was Ross's intention with the woman and the massage? I mean, was he going to try to make a move on her while she was half naked in his house?
They could have used her wedding fund to support her while doing a chef's apprentice program or put the money into her catering. I know it was supposed to be funny but re-watching this makes my blood boil. The after thirty comment was simply stupid because wasn't Ross 30 when he married the English woman? They paid for that
Monica's parents are the ones we read about on reddit From aita forum.. in real life she would have gone no contact with them. They always treated her badly and after promising her that there would be a wedding fund she can use one day they spent it without telling her. And her mom was a special kind of sh*t woman, always giving Ross preference and treating him like gift from God.
Wait what? In one episode we found out that Gellers thought that they can't have children. That is why Ross was a miracle! This story doesn't fit with the fact that Judy got pregnant accidentally

Did Ross get abandoned in a public toilet wearing nothing but panties?
2:46 good luck Chandler 😂
Yes, it's a tv show. But the characters were emotionally abusive. Also, the anger I'm seeing in the comments is that her parents promised they'd pay for at least part of it and then never told her they changed their minds until it was too late. It's not saying they are obligated to pay but they reneged on their promise and were never honest with her about it. They didn't even bring it up until Monica did.
Jack and Judy are amazing. Great actors on the show!
Their parents got engaged because jack got judy pregnant. But they call Ross a miracle as they thought judy couldn't have kids for years.
You have heard of miscarriage, right?
that's probably why she got pregnant
I think she must have miscarried, possibly several times. The first time she miss carried must have been way after they got married.
Matthew Perry was and is a very funny actor.
Monica has a wonderful heart, a beautiful girl like her deserves great parents. I'm feeling double standard here... her parents would never do the same thing to Ross.
Everyone "deserves" great parents, no matter what we look like. Most people actually do not get great parents. But yes, Monica is a beautiful girl, nonetheless.
Everybody deserves a good parent
Monica and Ross' parents were raised on the show for fun, but not to set an example for how to treat their children.
Sadly thousands if not tens of thousands actually do that lol
Very true.. They are caricatures of the ultimate "bad parents"..I am an Indian.....so the way the parents show preferential treatment to the son is nothing new to me..this behaviour is considered normal in India.
@@mathangeevijayraghavan202 I don't think it's this bad here Monica is treated like trash but in India the wedding is celebrated with grandeur for the daughters too
@@hsd287 true that they may be giving daughters less value but since the day daughter is born all they plan even before education is her wedding they save up from their childhood so they can celebrate her wedding grandly and give perfect farewell.
Jack such a wonderful actor and great comedic timing. 2:45 Good Luck Chandler lol
I'm right with you Chandler...I would be drinking too.☠😂🤣😅
Friends is the only show in history that exposed that parents could be really awful to their children and we learn to tolerate them with a smile.
I am glad Monica had Chandler. My parents are not very differeny from Monica's. My mom is worse infact. I pray one day I will find my Chandler Bing.
I really got satisfied when Monica get the Porsche because her parents were just awful to her 😌
2:46 - lol, i love how her father is telling chandler good luck, clearly implying like mother like daughter , poor chandler is in for some tough times : )
Always felt bad for Monica
Her parents were so awful to her but she still named her son after his dad what an ideal daughter she was
Her dad was more ignorant, he at least took further steps, such as seeing how she was after she broke up with Richard or when he gave her his porche.
Her mother is a bitch.
the fact that they were fine planning on paying for the wedding between their youngest child and their friend who's basically their age but it never even crossed their mind that Chandler might propose is honestly so weird
"Good luck Chandler"!!........ 😆😆😆
Chandler is one of my favorites characters he is one of the most eminent actors in the friend sitcom I think it's beyond a shadow of a doubt that Chandler is not going to give up he is a go-getter person
i always imagined that Jack and Judy payed lip service to baby Erica and Jack, because they were adopted, and didn't treat them that great. saying things like "My daughter adopted the babies, she can't have any of her own" like it was a bad thing, or they were lesser babies, and when Monica and Chandler fell naturally, and it can happen and the couple were overjoyed because now they were having a third. Jack and Judy did the full on "baby shower, gender reveal, and bragging about their real grandbaby" and after that, Monica and Chandler cut them both off. and jack geller bing. who was about six decided to go by his middle name Daniel. because grandpa didn't love him
the geller bing family of eventually five, won't allow toxic people in their lives.
And Jack was actually surprised to hear that Monica « thought » that they liked Ross more than her 😓
I don’t even know why Monica, still bothers with her parents. Obviously they prefer Ross, more. I would just continue my life without them.
They could always sell the beach house and get a good amount for it. They did owe her big time
Second mortgage on the beach house or on their regular house even.
You know this is a comedy show and not a real situation so no there no need for whinning
Parents should not be/are not responsible for YOUR wedding. If they want to pay then they can, otherwise, it's not their liability/Responsibility, You are 30, pay for it, or get a cheap court marriage
@@Snowaxe3D Well, it's still awful that they chose now to tell her!
@@srsgas1 as anyone says, The show never said that they paid for Both of Ross's weddings, they paid only once that too half,
Next, Monica also didn't tell them about her relationship with Chandler, they could have saved money if she had told them earlier,
Didn't they say they saved it again for Richard? So they could have done it again for Chandler.
Lastly, they still got married and Monica refused to use Chandler's savings so the question is where did the wedding money come from?
It's safe to assume, Everyone, chipped in a bit including her parents. I am including her parents because it's still a Sitcom and the sitcom has a happy ending.
Their parents really show no respect to Monica when they said 'we thought you would pay after 30' and it was very clear that they didn't love her when they had double standard for ross
Schwimmer has excellent physical comedy lol
David schiwimmer’s acting is gold 😂😂
Surely a beach house would cost waaaaay more than what a sane person would be prepared to pay for a wedding?
It was probably a large down payment
I remember someone did an estimation on the rent for Monica’s apartment in central New York. Was something like $4k per month and chandlers was $3k per month. In short they both would have needed 3X that in salary as a general rule which mean Monica needed to earn about $150k per year. So it’s just Hollywood being unrealistic. I mean we watch films about alien superhero’s based on Norse legends these days so best to have a bit of artistic flexibility. This point was was too long and over explained. I need to get a girlfriend.
@@George-zx5dk Monica was illegally living under her grandma's name, who had rent control and the rent was $200 per month.
@@wallygropius4451 ah okay that makes a lot more sense. Very generous of the grandmother. She could have made a lot more money :)
@@wallygropius4451 nice attention to detail also. Just realised that chandlers salary would be hard to determine since he is a “transponster” so he could well be earning over 140k per annum
Monica: "My parents spent the money for our wedding".
Phoebe: "My God, what did you order?"
this was incredibly sad to watch but the selling ice over the internet thing gets me every time
Okay this doesn't add up, in this episode Jack is saying he got Judy pregnant while they were engaged but somewhere in season 7 he also mentions that he and Judy had trouble conceiving and Ross was a medical marvel.
It might. They didn't say that child was Ross. She could have miscarried and that caused complications and then they thought she wouldn't be able to have children. Copied theory!
monicas parents always treated her like shit
It would be more than fair to give the beach house to Monica!
Why? Let her buy her own damned beach house, and pay for her own ninny-shit wedding.
I just hate everything The Gellers did to Mon
Judy is always very rude to Her... They spent the wedding fund... Never appreciated on her successes... Destroyed her childhood memories... Always favoured Ross and admitted openly about him being their favourite... I mean... What kind of parents are those...!!!
Don't forget remodeling her old beroom for their own use but left Ross's room they way it was.
That’s why Monica made the worst anniversary toast ever!
Ross turned out to be quite innovative when he got stuck with the old gentleman. The massage technique involving wooden spoons could take off lol
I never would expect the parents to pay
Even I agree with your viewpoint but if my parents paid for my brother's wedding and then refused me for mine then I would certainly know who they value more.
I don’t think that’s the point of this video.
They should coz it's their precious daughter who is having a wedding it's a happy occasion for them
In our places.. parents put their money too for marriage..bcoz they never see children as outsider or burden
I'd much rather have a beach house to inherit than a wedding fund lol. They definitely should've told her sooner though
Good luck Chandler 😆
You can see the use of their multi camera setup at 2:18 when it's focused on Chandler and Monica's mouth is moving and then it pans to Monica and you can see the slight head turn chandler just did from a different angle.
Chandler is a real
man didn't back off
0:18 hello 🤣🤣🤣
That's why monica and chandler deserves each other. They fill each other's void that their respective parents created.. They both have issues about their parents that only they can understand about each other..
I don't get it. They spent Monica's wedding fund to buy a beach house when she was only 23 and they kept on taunting her about her marriage. What if she decided to get married at age 24 when she didn't have that much of a career? How the hell did they expect her to afford it? So it's a good thing that she married late (when she turned 30) because they expected her to pay for her own wedding so I don't think she deserved any of those pressure and taunts about marriage.
Monica’s parents were down right mean to her always!!! 😮
Never understood why her parents mean bad to her. But atleast her father gifted her thd Porsche. That's the least he did for her after eating up her wedding fund and ruining all her childhood memories but still better than her mom.
Because Ross is their favorite son.
Relax, not all women choose to even have a wedding.
@@lookaroundyou8108not all women? Only not those who become liberal to hate normal things too... maximum does do wedding..even little
Of course, the table is drinking wine and Chandler is drinking a piña colada
Seeing as they spent Monica's wedding fund on the beach house, they could have sold the beach house to raise the money. Or given the house to Monica.
We have it .. only now we call it the beach house ... kills me everytime lmaoo
This is the best "men will be men" moment
That pink fruity drink that Chandler had looked good.
This is my favorite scene of all time it’s so funny and very entertaining
I REALLY WANTED HER TO NOT INVITE THEM TO HER OWN WEDDING ..IDC IF IT'S HER PARENTS . I wouldn't have
Monica talking but no sound at 2:19 then we get the same scene right after but this time the camera focuses on her :p...
I’m a huge Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan and the HD version is so bad that some night-time scenes look like it’s during the day or we can even see the staff during a few fight scenes and even see boom mics hanging at the top of the screen…
I don’t know much about filming and what can be fixed in that matter but I guess no one is willing to put a dime into doing it… I guess it costs too much… Maybe it’ll be done in a decade or two when the technology allows it without extra costs.
This is why I think Jack and Erica see Nora and Charles more
2000s, doesn‘t seem that long ago…
Until you peek into a Friends episode
I love "Friends" it's very funny and always makes me laugh, but with this episode I've always wandered, what was Ross's intention with the woman and the massage? I mean, was he going to try to make a move on her while she was half naked in his house?
It's just for comedy, perhaps he was hoping to give her a good massage so that she stays in touch and he can have her number.. who knows
Monica's parents are so cruel, they paid for 2 of Ross's weddings!!!! But left Monica without nothing.
Respect that everyone in the comments also thinks that her parents are awful
Chandler end up saving their wedding by having a ton of money saved up for 6 yrs, but then monica wanted to waste it all on her dream wedding
But she didnt spend it all
But she didn't waste it wanted to but didn't. She didn't use the money after Chandler told her about how he envisioned their life to be
@@serixirose7575 she didn’t use all of it, maybe just part of his savings
She didn't she agreed to have simple wedding
Love u matthew ❤❤❤❤
They could have used her wedding fund to support her while doing a chef's apprentice program or put the money into her catering. I know it was supposed to be funny but re-watching this makes my blood boil. The after thirty comment was simply stupid because wasn't Ross 30 when he married the English woman? They paid for that
Technically 29
Ross is a true friend
They can sell the beach house..😅
People taking a sitcom and analysing it like a game of thrones 😁
Both are fiction. And Friends is way more relatable. Only pompous morons take GoT seriously.
Ross is the best 😂
Monica's parents are the ones we read about on reddit From aita forum.. in real life she would have gone no contact with them. They always treated her badly and after promising her that there would be a wedding fund she can use one day they spent it without telling her. And her mom was a special kind of sh*t woman, always giving Ross preference and treating him like gift from God.
i feel bad that monicas mom and dad didnt have the money for her wedding
Because they spent it 😂😂😂
If I were Monica , I would Slowly And Lowkey Disown those parents
Ross' dad will forever be the 1 arm man to me.
Yo, Jack is right about the 7 years of beach house memories.
What makes it even more annoying is that they barely apologized (and they were never confronted for their terrible behavior)
Wait what?
In one episode we found out that Gellers thought that they can't have children. That is why Ross was a miracle!
This story doesn't fit with the fact that Judy got pregnant accidentally
It might. They didn't say that child was Ross. She could have miscarried and that caused complications and then they thought she wouldn't be able to have children.
@@katymvt wow, this is the coolest answer! thank you!
Parents should not be/are not responsible for YOUR wedding. If they want to pay then they can, otherwise, it's not their liability/Responsibility, You are 30, pay for it, or get a cheap court marriage
Good for Monica's parents, Let her pay for her own wedding.
They paid for Ross' wedding with Emily, but Monica has to pay for herself??
The hypocrisy. They paid TWICE for the Ross wedding. So, this was the right thing, huh.... And F. Monica, according these awful parents.
2:19 - awkward editing - you can see Monica talking but there is no sound of her speaking : )
That happens when using the original clips that were edited for 4:3 aspect ratio (thus hiding all of this stuff), and then forget to check them when re editing for 16:9 lol.
In other shots you can also notice when there is a stand in for some of them, when in the original aired episode, they were "out of frame"
All the comments are so serious. It’s a sitcom and hilarious the way the way her parents treat her lol
2:45
Judy's necklace (here) and Rachel's necklace from the episode with Brad Pitt looks similar/same
Jack and Judy were great as comedic characters; horrible as human beings and parents
2:20 did u notice ? lips moving with no sound
Ross was supposed to be a medical marvel and Judy was thought to be barren. Is this a rare inconsistency that Jack and Judy got married because she got pregnant?
