The most incredible part about the whole thing is that Monica and Ross get along so well. Usually, when parents make such big differences between their children, the kids tend to hate each other as adults.
Jack and Judy messed them up in different ways.
For Monica her constant needing to please people and wanting things to be perfect stems from her just wanting to be noticed and loved by her parents.
For Ross I think him constantly being spoilt by his parents meant this he is emotionally immature, hence why his job and divorces happen (among other things). Despite Monica being the younger sibling she often takes care of Ross because she is use to taking care and Ross is used to being cared for.
TL:DR - they both have shared issues aba
Monica wasn't that stupid
Ross sticks up for her with them
My grandpa was the unfavorite, but he and my uncle got along great (ironically PawPaw is much more like Ross than Monica). PawPaw is very easy going and made other friends easy, so I am sure that helped. I think part of it was my uncle and many of their friends were troublemakers, so PawPaw always looked like an angel compared to them.
Maybe living apart from their parents brought them closer. And Ross also sticks up for Monica in front of them.
Why did her parents thought that she won't get married? She was gorgeous, successful, polite, kind and so fun. Judy was always very rude to Monica, but here her Father also did a horrible thing.
They were always terrible to her.
Because the writers wanted them so.
@@buca9696 People don't understand that. 🤣🤣🤣

@@buca9696 wow genius.
Monica’s parents were just awful to her. If they no longer wanted to pay for her wedding that’s their prerogative but they shouldn’t have waited until she got engaged to tell her.
Let's not forget that they paid for Ross' wedding twice.
They should have just given her the money. Not spent it on whatever.

It's only a TV show. Settle down dude it's not real
Hey 👋, non-Westerner here. To clarify, the bride's parents are supposed to pay for their daughter's wedding? What's the groom and his family's role?
This is rough, especially knowing that they paid for TWO of Ross' weddings.
Update: I forgot that he was married to Carol, whose family likely paid for the first wedding. Still unfair that they paid for Ross' but couldn't pay for their own daughters.
That’s something I never really thought of wow, makes it all worse
Normally the father has to pay for the wedding of his daughter, so...because Ross is not female, the father(s) of his bride(s) payed for the weddings...
They are suckers for Ross.
@@unkommentiertesgameplay They paid for half of Emily and Ross's wedding
Idk, most likely Carol’s parents paid
Their parents, especially their mom, was AWFUL to Monica. All her little snide comments about the way she looked or how she was gonna be alone forever and the constant comparisons to Ross. I’m so annoyed that Monica never got a true apology before the show ended or some sort of closing to their story.
Only from her dad a little bit by giving her his car
Her mom prob didnt even support that discistion and sides with Ross getting it
Makes for great TV, but they’d be horrible in real life. I always liked the episodes they were in.

@@joseeduardotschen9186 an apology from her awful mother like I said… just because she got kids of her own doesn’t mean she should forgive her mother for sucking at raising kids

I will never get tired of saying this but Ross always end up in the most awkward situations .he is just effortlessly funny🤣👍
It was karma for pretending he was the massager just so he could massage the woman bare skin but it wasn't her who was getting the massage it was her father and Ross deserved it.

Ross has always been his parents’ favourite, and so was Rachel. Monica and Chandler went through tons of traumatic hardships since childhood, hence why their relationship works so well and Ross and Rachel’s a complete mess
Their relationship had rough spots as well. Monica acted like a control freak and treated chandler like her son instead of husband at times.
@Gray Mid IKR,

So a show shouldn't have well written characters just because it's a sitcom? You must love Big Bang Theory.
@Gray Mid and why do we consume media? To feel stuff we wouldn't otherwise, to empathize with others, to think about situations that might happen to others.
This "it's just a sitcom" is such bs
@@itachistan437 there's no perfect relationship, but if you compare the two (Rosschel and Mondler) Mondler is healthier, because they give and take. Monica may be a control freak, but whenever Chandler burst out and explain himself, if he has a point, Monica knows when to pull down her pride and comfort her husband. Rachel couldn't even take responsibility with her faults.
Monica is really kind to still respect her parents. Not just this wedding fund, they had been rude to her every time they were around. If they can't love their child why did they choose to have one?

I guarantee you that when they were discussing if they should pay for Ross’ second wedding, Judy ended it with, “Well it’s not like he has a sibling.”
I’m not even joking. Rachel literally said that Judy saw her as the daughter she never had.
Or the one with the memorial service when Ross faked his death and he was talking to her on the phone. She said if he died they would be childless. Ross responded with "mom, if I died you wouldn't have been left childless", to which he had to remind her about Monica 😂😂😂
Elliott Gould saying, “Good luck, Chandler” makes me laugh out loud every time. He and Christina Pickles were genius as the Gellers.
Finally a comment by an adult . Tired of seeing all these kids commenting about how awful monicas parents were . Its a show for gods sake.
Holy sh*t. How did it take me this long to connect the fact that Monica's dad is also the guy from Ocean's 11!?
Jack and Judy was just absolutely and positivity horrible parents towards Monica. 😭😟🥺😡Monica is a beautiful, intelligent, and independent woman that deserves recognition and credibility. Any mother and father would be proud to have Monica for a daughter. 😍😎💯👍
Come on. It’s a tv show lady.
Grow up the girl is over 30, she can pay for her own wedding.
Yes. No wonder Monica always complained how unfair their parents treat them. Like she's the one being left out in literally everything.
Parents should not be like this. When it comes to marriage, parents should fund the ceremony. It is the same thing with any culture. In Asia, parents are the ones who would fund the ceremony. Coz it's the celebration of getting new family member.
Parents should not be/are not responsible for YOUR wedding. If they want to pay then they can, otherwise, it's not their liability/Responsibility, You are 30, pay for it, or get a cheap court marriage
@@Snowaxe3D nope. Parents should pay. Just pay according their capabilities. In Malaysia, it's like that. For catering, parents spend the money, but for other things like wedding dress or gift money to the bride, it's on the groom
"Good luck Chandler" 😂😂😂
For people said that at least her dad gave her the porsche, she got it because her childhood stuff were used as a barier for Ross's stuff from flood. Jack felt sorry because Monica thought that they love Ross more than her (which is true). And Judy kept telling Jack to get rid of the porsche anyway so...
It wasn't used as a barrier for Ross's stuff, it was used as a barrier for the porsche. I doubt Jack had any idea what was in the boxes. Now, Judy would have made sure they were Monica's before using them.
Let me get this straight, they paid for Ross's wedding twice, second was an expensive one but used up all of Monica's wedding fund.

Did Ross get abandoned in a public toilet wearing nothing but panties?
Jack and Judy are amazing. Great actors on the show!
Their parents got engaged because jack got judy pregnant. But they call Ross a miracle as they thought judy couldn't have kids for years.
You have heard of miscarriage, right?
that's probably why she got pregnant
I think she must have miscarried, possibly several times. The first time she miss carried must have been way after they got married.
I'm right with you Chandler...I would be drinking too.☠😂🤣😅
Yes, it's a tv show. But the characters were emotionally abusive. Also, the anger I'm seeing in the comments is that her parents promised they'd pay for at least part of it and then never told her they changed their minds until it was too late. It's not saying they are obligated to pay but they reneged on their promise and were never honest with her about it. They didn't even bring it up until Monica did.
monicas parents always treated her like shit
Her parents were so awful to her but she still named her son after his dad what an ideal daughter she was
Her dad was more ignorant, he at least took further steps, such as seeing how she was after she broke up with Richard or when he gave her his porche.
Her mother is a bitch.
Matthew Perry was and is a very funny actor.
Always felt bad for Monica
I really got satisfied when Monica get the Porsche because her parents were just awful to her 😌
Monica has a wonderful heart, a beautiful girl like her deserves great parents. I'm feeling double standard here... her parents would never do the same thing to Ross.
Everyone "deserves" great parents, no matter what we look like. Most people actually do not get great parents. But yes, Monica is a beautiful girl, nonetheless.
Everybody deserves a good parent
"Good luck Chandler"!!........ 😆😆😆
Monica and Ross' parents were raised on the show for fun, but not to set an example for how to treat their children.
Sadly thousands if not tens of thousands actually do that lol
Very true.. They are caricatures of the ultimate "bad parents"..I am an Indian.....so the way the parents show preferential treatment to the son is nothing new to me..this behaviour is considered normal in India.
@@mathangeevijayraghavan202 I don't think it's this bad here Monica is treated like trash but in India the wedding is celebrated with grandeur for the daughters too
@@hsd287 true that they may be giving daughters less value but since the day daughter is born all they plan even before education is her wedding they save up from their childhood so they can celebrate her wedding grandly and give perfect farewell.
the fact that they were fine planning on paying for the wedding between their youngest child and their friend who's basically their age but it never even crossed their mind that Chandler might propose is honestly so weird
i always imagined that Jack and Judy payed lip service to baby Erica and Jack, because they were adopted, and didn't treat them that great. saying things like "My daughter adopted the babies, she can't have any of her own" like it was a bad thing, or they were lesser babies, and when Monica and Chandler fell naturally, and it can happen and the couple were overjoyed because now they were having a third. Jack and Judy did the full on "baby shower, gender reveal, and bragging about their real grandbaby" and after that, Monica and Chandler cut them both off. and jack geller bing. who was about six decided to go by his middle name Daniel. because grandpa didn't love him
the geller bing family of eventually five, won't allow toxic people in their lives.
Yeah, but by the series finale I don't think Chandler would have let Judy or Jack say anything nasty to Monica or the kids. He would draw a line saying "Those are my family you're talking about ". And probably cut ties with them in later years
Friends is the only show in history that exposed that parents could be really awful to their children and we learn to tolerate them with a smile.
I am glad Monica had Chandler. My parents are not very differeny from Monica's. My mom is worse infact. I pray one day I will find my Chandler Bing.
2:46 good luck Chandler 😂
You know I never noticed the first time around so much, but watching the reruns I now realise just how predatory Ross was, posing as a masseuse to trick a woman into getting undressed in his apartment and the way he calls for Rachel just cos he sees her naked in her apartment, it’s grotesque behaviour and Joey with Janine is almost watchable, too. When he takes the shower curtain down and puts the heat up in his apartment to encourage Janine to walk around in her underwear, it’s awful behaviour.
Schwimmer has excellent physical comedy lol
2:46 - lol, i love how her father is telling chandler good luck, clearly implying like mother like daughter , poor chandler is in for some tough times : )
Jack such a wonderful actor and great comedic timing. 2:45 Good Luck Chandler lol
Their parents really show no respect to Monica when they said 'we thought you would pay after 30' and it was very clear that they didn't love her when they had double standard for ross
Monica: "My parents spent the money for our wedding".
Phoebe: "My God, what did you order?"
I just hate everything The Gellers did to Mon
Judy is always very rude to Her... They spent the wedding fund... Never appreciated on her successes... Destroyed her childhood memories... Always favoured Ross and admitted openly about him being their favourite... I mean... What kind of parents are those...!!!
Don't forget remodeling her old beroom for their own use but left Ross's room they way it was.
That’s why Monica made the worst anniversary toast ever!

Okay this doesn't add up, in this episode Jack is saying he got Judy pregnant while they were engaged but somewhere in season 7 he also mentions that he and Judy had trouble conceiving and Ross was a medical marvel.
It might. They didn't say that child was Ross. She could have miscarried and that caused complications and then they thought she wouldn't be able to have children. Copied theory!
Monica’s parents were down right mean to her always!!! 😮
I never would expect the parents to pay
Even I agree with your viewpoint but if my parents paid for my brother's wedding and then refused me for mine then I would certainly know who they value more.
I don’t think that’s the point of this video.
They should coz it's their precious daughter who is having a wedding it's a happy occasion for them
In our places.. parents put their money too for marriage..bcoz they never see children as outsider or burden
And Jack was actually surprised to hear that Monica « thought » that they liked Ross more than her 😓
I don't get it. They spent Monica's wedding fund to buy a beach house when she was only 23 and they kept on taunting her about her marriage. What if she decided to get married at age 24 when she didn't have that much of a career? How the hell did they expect her to afford it? So it's a good thing that she married late (when she turned 30) because they expected her to pay for her own wedding so I don't think she deserved any of those pressure and taunts about marriage.
It would be more than fair to give the beach house to Monica!
Why? Let her buy her own damned beach house, and pay for her own ninny-shit wedding.
Surely a beach house would cost waaaaay more than what a sane person would be prepared to pay for a wedding?
It was probably a large down payment
I remember someone did an estimation on the rent for Monica’s apartment in central New York. Was something like $4k per month and chandlers was $3k per month. In short they both would have needed 3X that in salary as a general rule which mean Monica needed to earn about $150k per year. So it’s just Hollywood being unrealistic. This episode was infuriating. Chandler was 100% Correct, spending tens of thousands of dollars is just ridiculous and stupid. And this kind of stuff sets a standard in people's heads that is just self destructive.
Right? I've probably seen every episode ten times, and I don't even remember Monica's wedding. Been to one wedding and you've been to them all. Chandler should have said "Oh HELL no! I'm out. Not that I agree its a good idea to spend much money for a wedding. I think it's stupid that people in this country spend the price for a townhouse for their wedding.
But Monika was treated so unfairly by her parents, she would've deserved them doing something radical to make up for that money, especially since she counted on this fund since her childhood!
Monica's parents are the ones we read about on reddit From aita forum.. in real life she would have gone no contact with them. That's one of the biggest problems I've had with Friends, even before the widescreen versions. They would take reaction shots a half to full second later than it happened in real time.
