    I have been a fan of Lenovo ever since I was shown the light of the ThinkPad.
    Every coder and engineer and prosumer knows the ThinkPad lineup is the best for durability and stability in any laptop out there.
    Now the brand Lenovo is kicking it up full speed with their yoga class for screen quality which I think is the most important part of any laptop! Thanks Lenovo for seeing the screen as being the key against Apple in laptop differentiating. This core ultra 9 185H even though it’s first generation it’s exciting to see it unveiled in one of the highest end consumer laptops. Thank you for covering it.

    • @RazielMessiah
      @RazielMessiah 2 місяці тому

      @@byczong Went for the MiniLed 165Hz matte screen w/o touch.
      Overall it's a solid laptop for my needs, I can do dev work and some gaming without problems.
      The most battery time I've got was close to 6 hours by reducing brightness to 50%, refresh rate to 60Hz and disabling the CPUs turbo boost, otherwise you'd be lucky to squeeze 3h out without any adjustments and doing basic work like surfing the web/watching aome yt videos here and there...
      There's also quite a few thing I hate about it, nr.1 would be the fact that the bios is locked with intel's Plundervolt measure and you can't use tools like ThrottleStop to decrease the CPU voltage, it's a shame, the unit could definitelly work faster, cooler and more silent with an undervolt. I used some thermal adhesive paste and stuck some copper pads on the heatsink, this dropped the temps by 3-5"C but it's still not where I'd like it to be.
      Idle temps while doing basic tasks is 35-42"C, moderate tasks get you at 60-70"C and gaming can even spike some of your Pcores to 105"C (tjunction is set to 110"C so it's more or less "safe")
      The screen colors and brightness is alot better than anything you'll see on YT reviews, it's just gorgeous.
      Would I recommend it? Probably. If undervolting was also and option I'd be perfectly happy.

    The Mini LED display quality is just insane. Although I have games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Microsoft Flight Simulator in my Steam library, I barely play them. However, if I purchase the Yoga 9i, I might play games occasionally just to feast my eyes. I briefly used the 2023 Yoga model, and I must say, its display quality was much more impressive than even Samsung's best OLED.😊
    Your decision to capture the Mini LED in a video directly with a camera seems very good. What brightness level did you set before shooting the video? Also, I'm curious about what brightness level you usually set for tasks like document work.

    • @TechGuyBeau
      @TechGuyBeau  6 місяців тому +1

      My camera freaks out filming OLEDs and mini LEDS. I have to constantly adjust. The absolute blacks in contrast to the coloured portions confuse the camera.
      If you set the laptop to max brightness is a dim room it will sear your eyes lol. So usually 60%. 100% is best for extremely bright rooms.
      The screen on this laptop is, without a doubt, the nicest laptop screen I have ever used in my life.

I myself have had a few different legion laptops and the thinner models tends to have a horrendous high pitch fan noise. Maybe cause the high is oscillating in such a thin chassis, that it makes a whistling sound. Felt like a dog whistle for humans - maddening. Great video!
    You've reviewed both the Yoga Pro 9i and the Legion 7i. Have you noticed any benefits at all using the Lenovo Legion 7i over the Yoga? It seems the two laptops perform similarly in gaming benchmarks despite the difference in cpu performance. However, the yoga comes in a nicer chasis, have better speakers, screen, build quality, etc.

    • @TechGuyBeau
      @TechGuyBeau  4 місяці тому +2

      the Legion offers slightly better cooling and better performance profiles (legions normally have superb performance tuning). but otherwise they are pretty close. If the prices are similar get the Yoga for sure. but if its way more expensive the legion is pretty compelling. (also the legion 7i with the 3.2k screen is better tan the 1600p).

      @@TechGuyBeau That was a quick reply! Much appreciated.
      Actually, I bought the Lenovo Legion 7 as a desktop replacement, but I was considering returning it and replacing it with the Yoga for the aforementioned reasons.
      JustJosh also mentioned the Yoga feels cooler to the touch and have less fan noise.
      But I’m concerned if the Yoga can output stable performance for CPU intensive workloads for long durations and if the fans are more audible overall, because the intel ultra CPU would max out at lower levels of performance than the 14900hx

      @@allworksnewIf you need to game while on the go you should consider getting a steam deck or Nintendo switch or Rog Ally or something like that. Windows laptops do not perform well with gaming when unplugged. MacBooks do well on battery, but they can’t run most games.
      In any case, if you are talking about this particular laptop, I can answer because I have it. It taps into the battery even when plugged into power. The 170 W charger is not sufficient at all. So without the charger, it performs even worse. I would not recommend this for gaming or even creative tasks that involve the dGPU. Lenovo has cheated us owners of this Yoga laptop.
      I got it because they advertised international warranty. But when I raised this battery drain issue with them, they said they would not honour the warranty because I bought it from another country. They are cheats of the highest order. I made a huge mistake. I should have stuck to the Dell XPS. Dell charges more, but they are very honest about doing right by the customer no matter what country they are in. When I had a small display issue with my XPS, they gladly replaced the entire 4K display for free without fuss when there was barely a week left for the warranty to run out. Lesson learned. I will never buy a Lenovo again. I have advised my IT department today of this deceptive practice by Lenovo and they have removed Lenovo from consideration for their upcoming batch order for our company.

    balanced mode is fine, does not generate that much heat and even perforsm well on battery which is amazing for a windows laptop. I have been testing it for the last several days. I still get over 70 frames a minute on a little less than native resolution on most games. I can put it on my lap just spread your legs a little to allow for air ciirculation and it does not get burning hot or never hot on the palm rest or keyboard. It is just that the battery dranins fast when playing games on battery unlike my Macbook pro M1, but other than alonger better life and slightly better thermals. It is competing surprisingly well with My macbook M1. When doing normall tasks like watching videos, surfing the web, playing music, it does not even get warm over a long period to time. I am really impressed. oh by the way I only have the IPS and 4050. got it at best buy for an amazing discount. and it is quite adequate and the IPS sreen while not as good as mini led is beautiful. • @TechGuyBeau
      @TechGuyBeau  6 місяців тому +2

      I didn’t review the g16, however I did make a video complaining about Canadian pricing. Mainly on the g14 but I did state that the g16 was also somewhat too expensive.
      My takes on the g16 Vs yoga:
      The yoga 9i can be had for quite a bit cheaper, I paid approximately $2300 after tax, whereas the g16 is $2600 before tax at Best Buy. Lenovo routinely holds great sales so you will be able to get her yoga for even cheaper, plus Lenovo rewards cash, etc. asus doesn’t discount products until sometimes 1-2 years later.
      OLED technology risks burn in, MiniLED does not.
      Otherwise they are somewhat comparable. I have heard horror stories (and experienced some issues myself) with asus warranty in Canada as well. This may not be the case for everyone.
      In the end the g16, assuming you buy in at 32gb, appears to be a good laptop. The price is VERY high, and will not see respectable price cuts in all reality for at least 6 months, if not a year (maybe BF?). The yoga will see considerable price drops.
      I don’t routinely recommend anyone pay MSRP for a laptop, which would immediately stand in favour of Lenovo here as they will routinely be selling this for quite a bit below what asus will (consider that I paid less on the day the laptop launched even, which is a horrible time to buy a laptop).
      If you really do want a 16” laptop, they are both likely to be quite good. My primary beef is with the price of the g14, which is frankly insane, and the lack of sales on asus products in general.
      I hope that helps? In summary, if you aren’t worried about OLED burn in, or warranty, just grab whichever of the two you can get cheaper. I’d recommend waiting in sales as always.

      It's probably around or under 40 db, which is quiet. The fans are still spinning and don't overpower the sound. That's the setting I play on my gaming laptop but with my laptop balanced mode is around 50 db and high performance is 55+ DB. I have a MSI Ge75 17" RTX 2060 gaming laptop. The Yoga 9i Pro is significantly cheaper than the MSI GE78HX laptop I want. It goes for $2,700 for RTX 4070 with sales tax. You may want to:
      - debloat your Windows
      - set your brightness to a reasonable amount when on battery
      - set your screen's refresh rate to dynamic (or set it manually using Fn+R)
      - set your Vantage's power profile to "Battery Saving" (Fn+Q)
      - this is quite inconvinient, but you can set your power to "Best power efficiency" every tine you unplug
