Want topwater speckled trout? Throw this lure

- In perfect conditions, any topwater lure might deliver strikes from hungry speckled trout, but certain baits shine when all the factors aren't in your favor.
Marsh Man Masson has a go-to when the stars aren't exactly aligned, and he used it to put speckled trout, redfish and even bass in the boat during his most recent trip.

Maybe Nash could have nailed down that wind forecast for you....on his chalk board weather map.
*It's great caught caught a brown trout on the first cast. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend if it was a little smaller it would be more effective for different species*
MMM do you trailer you boat every trip or store it close to where you fish ? Again great trip and learned something new !
I trailer it
@@MarshManMasson thanks. Moving down in 2020 and learning the area and considering everything.
Marsh, where can I purchase those corks?
Versamaxx.com
MMM ,how are you digging those nine optics
They're holding up well, and fit my style of fishing. I'm a fan.
Marsh Man Masson how would you rate them against costas. That’s all I use and I’m looking for something different for these south Texas sunny days
It's been a lot of years since I've owned any Costas, so I can't make a fair comparison. I've recently owned some Wiley X, and I really like those as well.
Marsh Man Masson thank you sir. Keep them awesome videos coming ✌🏽
Without giving specific spots, how about letting us know where you are fishing in these videos i.e. Delacroix, Hopedale, Lake Pontchartrain, Rigolets?
I have learned so much from this channel it's amazing! Thank you Sir! Keep up the good work!
Awesome video and great tips. My son is 11 and unless he catches on every cast he loses interest quickly. I take all the tips and help I can get 👍
As a bass fisherman that sometimes venters off to salt water try twitching straight down and walk the dog...the bass love it but speckled trout destroy a slow walk the dog method!!!
What color SheDog do you top water fish fir trout?
Hey MarshMan! How can I check those buoys in southern Louisiana like you did? Seems like it would be a great help
I'd like to know as well. Specifically for causeway, trestles, and twinspan?
I compiled them while I was at Nola: www.nola.com/outdoors/index.ssf/2013/03/buoy_reports.html
I love your videos I live not to far from you CCC
What type of knot are you using on the topwater. I’m using a non slip loop knot
An improved clinch. For me, loop knots don't make a difference in action, and they're weaker than improved clinches or palomars, so I avoid them.
Another great
Video! I had a few good topwater blow ups yesterday myself, but I didn’t stick with it for long. Same thing up here, crummy tidal movement slowed the
Bite down. Looking forward to better tides towards the end of the week.
Glad I found your videos, and you're close enough to me to really apply your color choices and tactics...thanks for the info...
I love a good fishing video and i love trout.
Todd, how important is it to use a flourocarbon leader when you are using braided line, for either topwater , corks, or jigging?
I NEVER throw braid without a leader. To me, it's essential.
Great info. Trying to understand the importance of wind direction.
Ah, I was wondering why you never mentioned wading.
Great video and love your fishing tips..
As a former Meteorology student, in defense of the forecasters - they're pretty dang accurate, from 72 hours on in. The amount of variables that go into a forecast is staggering, and they're constantly changing. Past 72 hours, and the confidence levels drop steeply, especially this time of year in our corner of the world; it's hard to time these fronts.
No doubt. I usually defend weather forecasters for those reasons. The butterfly effect, of course, is always at play.
Was wondering why I never see you wade fish out there.
Thanks for the home grown videos. i am thanking you from my crew and myself working offshore in the
Saudi oilfields. We enjoy watching each one. You make us homesick !!! Something to come home for. keep em coming!
Wow! Thanks so much for watching all the way around the world. The fish will be here waiting for you when you get home.
Todd what are your thoughts on using your troll motor as anchor as opposed to power pole or cajun anchor, especially in winding conditions,re spooking fish?you don't seem to spook the fish!
john
I use my spot-lock all the time. Does it spook a few fish? Maybe here and there, but the convenience makes it well worth it for me.
Another great video. I have been having trouble with my topwater cadence using the matrix mullet since I started using bait casters. What power and action rod do you recommend?
Since I use braid, I like a light- or medium-light-powered rod with slow to moderate action, but that's more to dampen the fish's leverage once a connection is made.
Recently heard from a friend not to use the "cooler lid" to measure your catch.
The LWFD uses a stretch tape. Seldom do you catch a loser.
I've checked the measurements on my cooler lid. Both 12 and 16 inches are accurate.
Love your videos. I am trying to find death grip jigs. Can you suggest an online source?
ghostminnows.com
How well do you like your G3 boat? I was looking at getting the exact same one but now I'm contemplating getting a xpress 20. Could you tell me your favorite thing about it and then what you least like about it? Love all your videos by the way. Always helps me get through my long 28 day hitches.
All in all, I'm very happy with the boat. It rides very well for an aluminum boat, but I know the Xpresses do as well. The negatives are minor: The steering is stiff, and the holds leak water like sieves.
@@MarshManMasson Thanks for the info that helps me a lot!
What do you mean by 5 feet of leader line but you are only fishing 3 feet of it
The Versamaxx Bolt allows leader depth to be adjusted without retying. It's a game-changer, and is the only cork I'll ever use.
You mentioned seeing them hit on top. Is that a common way to locate them?
I wouldn't say I necessarily use that as a way to locate them, but it certainly gives me confidence when I'm throwing topwaters in a particular area.
First again 🤪
Kind of off topic but have you or do you fish the Tchefuncte much for bass during fall or winter?
Not much until about February.
Thanks, it's been on my mind to go try. I think I'm going to try the Lake P shoreline tomorrow and maybe try trolling the Causeway. I haven't been hearing anyone doing anything but I want to see for myself. Thanks for posting! @@MarshManMasson

Florida 15” to 20” slot limit but you can keep one fish over 20”
What kind of boat do you have marsh man?
18' G3 Bay DLX
Headed out Thursday. Wanna go?
Subliminal "that's what she said" was great!😆😆
Do you not bleed speckled trout?
It's a mild-tasting fish, so there's no need to.
@@MarshManMasson ok ty, I've been trying to catch some and I was wondering when I do will I need to bleed them. Cool thanks man. I've learned a lot from your videos.
Whatvis that setup you are using for the Topwater
Light-powered Castaway Skeleton with a Daiwa Tatula spooled with 30-pound Vursa Braid tied to a 20-pound mono leader.
@@MarshManMasson Awesome and Thank you
Tight Lines
Hey Todd...I am having a few issues casting braid with my bait caster. Would you mind sharing the model of reel you were using in the video and its specs? Many thanks
It's a Daiwa Tatula. What baitcasters are you having trouble with?
@@MarshManMasson I am using a curado with J-braid but although I feel is is set correctly, I am getting birds; nests too often.
Should I get the 200 TWS ?
# TEST IS CRITICAL!!!
If you're having trouble with the Curado, I don't think the Tatula will work any better for you. It's all about finding that magic zone with the brakes and tension knob.
