- Blackstone Griddle Wind Guards DIY
We take a trip to Dollar Tree and find what we need to help with wind guards for our 36 inch ProSeries Blackstone griddle. We spend a total of $7 in this haul and it was well worth it!

Great idea! Griddle Up 🤙
Pretty simple....maybe not the most visually appealing look....but works pretty good!
Thank you so much for this idea! Just came back from Dollar Tree and bought 3 of these for my 28 inch grill. I only need 2 really but am going to give one away, Again thanks.
That's pretty awesome, I had no idea they had those at the dollar tree. I'm not coordinated enough to use two spatulas but a spatula and chopper works great for me.
Innovative! Nice!
And its a whole lot cheaper than what they actually sell for wind guards!
Thank you SO SO much!! I wasn't really believing you that is really could work, but YES!!!I have a smaller Blackstone 18" and it works like none other!! THANK YOU!! They slip together so you don't have to cut it down. Just push it into the other one. Couldn't be easier!
This is awesome to hear! I checked my local dollar tree and they still have these for sale. My wife likes to use them when baking cookies as well 😉😂
What an excellent idea!
Thank you! 😊
I got them a while ago and they work great.
Great tip brother
Looks like a great idea, off to the dollar tree thank you. Got you on my main list
Awesome! Thank you! Check out our "Carolina Blue Smoke BBQ and Outdoor Cooking". I just did an updated video on these wind guards.
Thanks! You just saved me $35!
I have them on mine too.....LOVE them!!
Great advice! This is definitely worth the investment. It will probably help my other pilots light quicker since the gas won't escape as easily.
Thank you!
Brilliant
Not going to lie, I'm a dollar tree addict & I was searching for some dollar store diy (decor) I thought your title said wind chimes diy lol. I'm just glad there are some guy McGyvers out there who like to hack dollar tree products as much as I do! Great idea!

Brilliant! Just looked some wind guards up on Amazon $40
Awesome
Thanks for this video.
Need to do another with an update. Thank you for watching.
I was looking at the Blackstone wind guards, but no way I'm paying $49. Watched a few other videos about making them, then came across this brilliant idea. Went to my local dollar tree and picked up six. They must be aware of this great hack since they had a ton of these in stock! Thanks for the tip.
Glad this helped out! Much cheaper and gets the job done. Thank you for watching!
So smart
Got me some already. Thanks
Great!
Great Hack! Just an FYI, I have a Char Griller Flat Iron and 3 for each side fit perfect. Thank you.
Great tip!
I tired this and it works great. I was impressed by how much heat protection it offered the shelves as well. I can keep cheese on them without it melting in 5 minutes.
Awesome! Pretty cheap and works! Love it! Thanks for watching!
my griddle is completely open on the bottom. that's where a majority of my wind interference comes in. any suggestions for sealin off the bottom?
Thanks Mike I will have to stop at our dollar tree!
Richard Yutz gave me the tip and I researched........great cheap idea.
Based on your video, I bought a bunch of those
. I found that the gap at the roll was too small to clip onto the grill. I took a chisel and ran it down the gap to slightly widen the opening and make for a better fit.
Great idea. I just bent it slightly using the edge of the griddle. Glad it worked for you and thank you for sharing your ideas.
Great haul! I'm still up in the air on one of them. I was wondering if it a pain to clean🤣.
I was just telling my wife how EASY they are to clean. I’ve had rice and cheese stick ......take the scraper and just slide it over into the trash compartment. Very easy! Key is seasoning well and keeping the griddle slick with oil. It should be like cooking on glass.
@@luvysfatlife that's good! Maybe I'll pick one up the next time they are on sale.
Thanks for the heads up, a question, does keeping the heat in cook the food faster or is cooler for you when you are cooking?
This will keep the griddle hotter....wasting less gas. This also helps deflect the heat from escaping the sides....which protects things you have on your side shelf. You'd be amazed how hot it can get on the sides. I noticed after several cooks if anything was too close on the side shelfs they would get so hot they would start melting....butter or plastic items.

My experience was that these solid pieces destroy the igniter. The oem guards have ventilation cutouts that do not trap heat and these here completely melt the plastic igniter. My igniter melted and many other Blackstone users mentioned the same in different social groups. The good thing is it’s only $12-$17 for a replacement. Sure, I still use these scrapers to block wind when necessary, just not near the igniter at bottom left.
hi there. Do you think if I just omitted the front left dollar tree scraper (used 5 instead of 6) on a 36” 4 burner griddle this would not be an issue? Thanks!
@@GreyGooserr Hi, I would allow the heat to escape where the igniter is. I removed the lowest left scraper after replacing the melted igniter. However, shortly after that, I went ahead and spent $22 on a wind blocker that allows heat to escape. In reality really, when you put anything that blocks the wind, the griddle will get much much hotter than normal. That's all good, just pay attention to the parts that can get damaged. Folks will advise you that you cook on medium or low, instead of high with any kind of wind blockers installed.
@@quangtran111 thanks so much for your help! I think I’ll play it safe and get some vented wind guards as well
@@GreyGooserr The replacment ignitor was only $9 on Amazon, so it wasn't bad. I do think the vented guards will look nicer anyway.
Going to Dollar tree hope they have some or I will make mine out of a cookie sheet 😂 Update well I went to the Dollar tree they only had 4 so I bought them will put them on the griddle tomorrow if we don't get rain ☔ my griddle is a 22 inch
Awesome. It’s worked well for us!
Does it cut down the heat radiating to the shelf as well? I am finding I can’t really use the shelves because they get so hot.
It does cut it down. That was the main reason I purchased these. It does NOT stop it all together, but does cut down. You are right, if something is too close to the sides it will melt or become really hot.
Super easy tip! For 1" over length I'd just leave it stick out.
The way this sits, you cannot leave it sticking out due to the bottom would not fit.....unless you opened wider and allowed it to overlap the other guard. Someone suggested that, but I haven't tried it yet. Thank you for watching! I will try the other to see if it works. This was pretty darn cheap. Love the griddle! Griddle On Brother!
My 28 inch griddle is natural gas. It has a hood and it has two trees on the side so if I put anything on the side they get too hot I can’t pick anything up. I ordered the wind guards but they’re too wide from top to bottom, they hit the tray? Any suggestions?
It has TRAYS on the side
Could you use aluminum foil to fine tune?
You may be able to…..but this works pretty darn well. I don’t think you have to cut the cutters for the non pro series either. Thank you for watching.
Hi, I was just wondering if this setup caused issues with your igniter. The reason I ask is because I can see that your griddle already has vent holes on the sides and on the back, as mine does. I guess some came with these vent holes but I have seen others that didn't, in which case I can see lack of airflow being a potential problem. Thanks!
Also, I noticed that on the guards you can purchase, they go on the sides and also on the back.
@@azliz4186 no issues fir me so far. There is air flow in from and back. My main reason fir them was to reduce heat from the sides. Never had an issue with igniter or the burners blowing out. Good catch.
Can’t find them at Dollar tree I think you got them all lol
Really. Here in NC they always have them. You may be able to order.
It also looks like it covered up that sharp inside edge that was in your setup vlog for this
Hello, you are exactly right....it did cove that sharp point up. It may not be the best "visual" looking wind guard, but for $6 total and ability to take off or even use as a scraper or chopper instantly I think they will work fine. Thank you for checking out.
@@luvysfatlife Nothing wrong with saving money when we can because it's more money we can put on a cruise or land trip
Totally agree!
fkkn genius.
Put them along the back as well
Need to try that one!
Hope you don't have a burner gas leak , or a burner does not light.
There is still air flow front and back. Only cutting off the sides.
Checked my local dollar tree and found none of these items - checked online and found I can only buy in bulk - very discouraging
I purchased mine this past summer. They had a ton of them. Sorry to hear that. I’m wondering if they are more of a seasonal item at dollar tree?
Not likely food grade stuff people.
These are for the sides……what do you mean food grade? Not cooking with them.
