Don’t forget to run Ethernet or a fiber line to the garage for internet when you run electrical from your house. Run it in conduit so that if you ever need to run anything else you can pull it through.
Yeah run a CAT and Fibre or make sure u get atleast half an inch seperate pipe. If you dont want to run a fibre.
A directional PoE access point will work very well too plus no cables
@@optionstrader9637 yes it would except for the constant high winds and rain. He has to trench for power anyways so why not run hardwired anyway?
House wifi with a repeater/extender in the barn will work fine. The place I bought I could just barely get signal inside my metal sided pole barn and it would come and go. Added an extender inside the barn direct in line with where the wireless router sits inside the house and it works perfectly and only cost me $35.
@@FastSS02 why do you guys keep giving him unstable situations and slower situations when the biggest issues he has is rain, hail, very high winds. And using a repeater gives him slower internet and unstable internet due to all the people around him using up all the wifi channels because with an extender you can’t use the DPS channels so he will have constant issues and disconnections. If you’re going to do something do it right not half ass.
Few tips being an electrician. Always do more lights than expected. They can be shut off or dimmed with switched. Soffit on the outside put a plug on each side for Xmas lights. Also run cat5 cable to every corner for cameras. put a plug or more on each side outside to prevent having to use extension cords. Another key thing. Have a 50a plug for a welder or a few of them off the same breaker cause you’ll never use more than one welder at a time. Just makes it moveable, and a 30a compressor. If you have a designated pressure washer area put a plug there. Retractable extension cords are great mounted higher than regular plugs. Don’t forget a plug for the door opener. I’m sure there’s more just remember all your designated things lights, tool boxes…
Sounds like you've done this before 😆... (screen-shotting your comment and saving this) Thank you!
@@LonestarHawaiian just a few to many times. If you’ve got any questions or ideas feel free to reach out. Honestly to save a little money Home Depot prices on plugs switches, boxes may be cheaper than any wholesalers. To bring costs down for your electrician you could drill holes for wires to go through, mount boxes where you need them. 2gang boxes I’d mount over work benches for extra plugs.
Exactly, this should be the default on modern structures.
A Hawaiian who started a UA-cam channel, who likes working on cars, who moved to Texas, who decided to build his dream shop himself. Then said UA-camr had to UA-cam how to construct the shop that makes UA-cam videos in a new shop for truck/car mods! lol. Man I love your channel and if I could come out to Texas to help I would! Keep chasing your dreams and what makes you and your family happy!,
We use out-swing doors in Florida.
This isnt Florida
@@lance_WatchThis1 They work anywhere. I installed one in Michigan.
Risinger knows what he's doing
I’d go the 32” on the both man doors, they are cheaper and no need to have the bigger man doors, if you have something to bring in you have the big door to use.
going with a 48" man door on mine was the best thing I ever did. Having to open up the big overhead doors every time is a hasel.
The weather needs to be the main sponsor for your videos ,always makes an appearance!
Epic videos dude 😊
Work smarter! Not harder! Love the use of the truck in your video!!❤😂
Before I saw all the comments about an out swing door, I was thinking you didn't have to tear apart the old opening. You could have just added 2x4s on the insides of door opening to make it narrower. Either way, great shop!
That was my exact thinking
Seems like a commen theme 😅 ... only question I couldn't' find an answer to was my bottom plate. If I added 2x4s to double up the jacks... do I just cut a small 4" piece of treated lumber and screw it in for my bottom plate?
I use to frame custom homes years ago. When clients would change thier minds on door and window sizes( which never happens😂). If it was a smaller opening, we would just add to the framing. Would simply use construction adhesive to help hold the small add on sillplate piece with a couple tapcons( this was in the early 90's before the use of the giant concrete lags being used for connectors to concrete). Would glue it in place, tapcon it down, and then fill in as needed. Making an opening larger was complete disassembly but usually wasn't a major headache unless the wall sheathing was already in place( would stand walls with no sheathing, plumb them, brace them, and then sheath). Your way of fixing the making the door opening smaller was the right way( instead of a 4 inch piece added), and since it's your shop and you would look at it every time you go out the door, you made the right call for your sanity in the long run.
@@LonestarHawaiian That's what I would have done.
Why wouldn’t you just put in the size door you framed for? I’ve never heard anyone say they wish an exterior door was smaller.
Huge accomplishment. Love the thinking outside the box. That shop will still be standing 75 years from now.
You know, when I first came across your videos I did not give them any attention. After watching your progress to the point you are at now I have say that you are the man!!! Your dedication, your fortitude, your perseverance on this garage is just flat out impressive, incredible and just completely off the charts. For one man to accomplish what you have to this point is just so …. Wow I’m at a loss for words. You dad should be proud. He taught you well and give yourself a pat on the back. Well deserved!!!!
Keep up the great work! In my time, I've built my own storage sheds, a garage, 3 decks, and a basement renovation. Nothing on the level that you have undertaken. Your attitude is great, your attention to detail is constant, and if you could bottle your energy and sell it, you'd be a multi-millionaire! 🙂(Love the truck stuff too!)
One man (with some help at times), and an "i can" attitude. Look at the results! This has already been an epic series! Can not wait to see what you do with the inside!
All that work and you could just had the door swing out
No, more room infront of building without swinging door
@@lance_WatchThis1 what? It's the SIDE door he replaced with a smaller one.
That’s like the best ad I’ve ever seen on a UA-cam vid lmao.
I have a much smaller 26x28 shop due to lot/zoning constraints. My 36" man door is on the side. I too was concerned about it swinging in so i just had it swing out, not unlike they have to do in most commercial buildings.
It swings out on commercial buildings because of fire code. The doors always swing out so piles of people can’t get trapped inside in the smoke of a fire. Also, police and firefighters can access the hinge pins and open the doors within seconds to make entry.
Ever since you graded the yard, I’ve been hooked on this series
Thank you for watching!
me too
A little NHL in the background and a build update in the foreground. Awesome!
i love watching all of your videos man! They make my day so much better to start off eating breakfast and watching this channel. I am stuck on how do you only have 189K followers your content is amazing. Love all the DIY videos!

The editing is 🔥🔥🔥
Rent a trencher for running the conduit from the house to the garage. Much easier than hand digging! I'd put a panel with extra circuits in the garage. Youl always want more outlets or circuits at some point. To the electrician who commented and you were going to screenshot for future reference, I totally agree! Dont forget AC circuits since you're in Tejas!
Dude, you come up with the most unique ideas! Very impressed!
I'm coming to you when we have to build the next Ark!!! Awesome, brother. Love the channel.
Looks great! Impressed that you're doing most of it yourself!
Chad, you did a great with prepping for your ginormous garage door!
I cannot wait to see the new garage door and most importantly to see you install it!
Well done, Chad!
As a garage door guy I can't wait either. I'm hoping he's just going with a roll up door not a sectional. Much easier for a diy guy. And it will save space
I'm wondering with the space and swing concerns, you didn't use swing out doors and with the wild weather, did you consider impact rated doors and windows?
Yeah, I thought the same thing…I’d go Florida hurricane code on those.
I was thinking the same thing since he said most of the storms come from that side anyways, an out swing would be better for wind force against it when closed.
Good work. When you run your conduit to the garage, run a few extras, I ran 4 used 2. Last year, fiber optic came available in my neighborhood. I have underground utilities that come from the rear of the property. I ran the fiber to garage, then to the house, I used one of the spares. I still have one spare. I would also run a few 3/4" potable water irrigation water lines in the same hole *just incase" you want water to the garage someday. This I did not due, and regret it every day. The cost is in the labor to dig the trench. Spare conduits and irrigation lines aren't to costly.
Chad! Lights are going to be your friend in the shop. Above you and on the side. I’m sure you thought of a lot of stuff from the comments and likely stuff you haven’t. Needless to say you got this. Just make sure you have lots of room to expand your box as you expand. Chances of you running everything running at once but you will need dedicated circuits for things like ventilation/fans, a lift, compressor, chargers, lights, cameras, heat, and etc. Try to keep you lights as LED so that you don’t have to change them out as the heat in Texas(as you know) is extreme and the cold both deteriorate gas bulbs. Good linkable lights would save you a lot of wiring. This is definitely the time to mark, plan, draw out, all your needs to line out your main box to leave room for expansion. Also I’d cover your bottom and top of panel with something you can remove easily for those additions.
Been awesome watching the journey to Texas and where the story has brought us to. Can't wait to see more.
Dont forget external lights. All around your shop. If possible on a 3 way switch where you can turn them on from inside your house also
After having run into so many door jambs trying to move stuff in or out, I'd have stuck with the 36" door. Having that extra width just makes the difference to me. In fact, I'm in the design phase right now of adding an RV garage/workshop to my house and I've asked the architect to put french doors on the side facing the patio. They will open out so no worries about the swing interfering with floorspace.
Очень круто получается👍👍👍👍👍👍 Смотрю все серии и жду новые! Привет из России🖐🖐
Bro your editing is 🔥 love it.
This is awesome! I am a carpentry freshman at Norwich Tech in CT and the process of you building this is really cool
Been great watching you working on your dream garage. I know what you mean by over building a structure. I am currently building a simple backyard chicken coop, well it started out being simple, now it's taken on a mind of its own. 4x4 support posting holding up 2x8 horizontal plates. I do believe it is sturdier than my house. Keep up the good work.
It’s awesome to see your lady helping you at the store.. my lady just makes unrealistic requests from Instagram 😂
That's how they build the pyramids! Nice work!
I like the bed inset to use during supply transport... good idea.
Man you have done an Outstanding Job on this shop and we LOVE watching you work. The Truck Pulley trick was epic.
Probably too late, but re your comment about narrower doors to take up less interior space, I put externally opening doors on my shop extension last year. They of course don't take up any interior space, they are harder for someone to ram/kick in, and far more wind resistant. I'm South of Houston, hurricane windstorm protection is key. External opening doors are now code in many places in Florida. I was initially concerned about security, but they come with tamper proof hinges, little tabs that prevent removing the door even if someone were able to remove the pins. If it's not too late, might want to check 'em out. Using them let me put a 6' wide french door on the back of my shop, right next to my workbench, I love the light and airflow it provides.
Pulling the wire for a garage this size will take the most time. So if you can run the all of the wire inside (and outside) then have the electrician connect up all of the plugs, switchs and breakers that should save you a ton of money on the electrician.
Great looking building. I would like to make a suggestion. Since you are going to have electric installed, I would also have plumbing run as well. You will want to have water down the road for sinks etc. Just a thought.
I have been watching since you started and I am very impressed by your can do attitude and the job you're doing is great! I started by watching the updates to your trucks and now I am hooked seeing how this garage is going to turn out. Great job so far!
So glad to see work being done. With all of the weather havoc in Texas I was afraid your family would be camped out on your staging with 2’ of water in your garage. So glad you are safe.
I am impressed with your work ethic and your ability to build your own garage and it’s been very interesting watching you build your new workshop! With all this experience now, have you thought about opening a business of building garages? Find a team of Hawaiians that have your same work ethic and start your company there in Texas!
All Commercial shop doors open out. Not IN. For obvious Fire SAFETY Reasons. If the roof or wall falls in front of that door and it opens in and that's your only way out guess what you're screwed.
Looking really good brother! I sure know what you mean by going to either Lowes or Home Depot about every other day for something! I'm in the process of installing my interior tin this week and will have the floor epoxied next week. Boy, I'm really looking forward to the completion of my dream shop!! Good luck and don't work too hard bud!
Love the channel. Great work getting the header in place - my favorite part of this video. Redoing things to fix mistakes is ALWAYS the way to go. You'll always know a mistake is there and wish you had taken the time to fix it.
Consider a Quigley van? Talk to offroaders about thier sprinter experience(s). If you want 4x4 get a Quigley or similar.
crazy idea. put in out swing doors with security hinges
Out swing doors?
Killin it brotha! All on your own! 🤙🤙🤙🤙
Heck yeah it looks awesome
Pro tip from not a pro lol when you were hanging the sheathing above the garahe door opening, in situations like that screw some scrap blocks to the bottom of the header to create a shelf for the sheathing to rest on while you screw it in. That way you aren't having to hold it while getting clamos in place and so on and it'll line up flush with the edge of the framing.
Hawaiian barn raising right there! Cheeeeheeee
As a fellow Texan ,I feel your weather pains.
Love the vids man keep it up!
May want to ask around regarding the electrical. In our area, the homeowner can run all the branch circuits as long at the certified electrician installs the breaker box and signs off on it.
You are doing it!! Great job
Looking good can’t wait to watch the next video. I’m moving to Texas soon and I want to do this to my back yard as well so I’m learning a lot from you and I love that you are doing it the right way the first time. 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
That's an epic shop, hopefully one day I can do something like that. Thanks for all the documentation, knowledge and entertainment!
You're killing it dude! Looking good!
Nice choice for the background music. The shops coming right along!
That Header installation was clever and executed very well. You've got a huge pair of potatoes in those pants.😂
Well done man, so awesome
If you are going to clad this in Brick, consider putting Indiana Limestone or some Texas stone around the Openings, at least the Headers and Sills..it will give the place more Soul than a quick Wham-Bam Thank you Maam Brick Job..lol..The Frugal, even use stone Pavers cut in two to use in lieu of stone..if you have an L to hold the Brick above the door, you could use more than one Big Piece of Stone as Lintal..Some, here in Quebec Shou Sugi Ban Japanese Burnt Hemlock or Cedar and maybe put that as a Facade Exposed Header.
The beam... was awesome!!
I'm really enjoying your videos ! Can't wait for the next one...
Was waiting for a new video! Thanks
Not sure about TX, but in every state I've ever lived in you can pull your own permit and do any mechanical (HVAC, Elec, Plumb) you want IF it's your own property. Might want to check into that. If you can do the work yourself, then you sub out the parts you don't want to do yourself. But pulling wire is easy, outlets are easy, breaker panels are easy. Running a main line from house to shop....not so much.
You are doing such an amazing job!
You have most likely already thought about this, but why not have the door open outward? My back door opens out so that we didn't lose any space that would have been taken up. Plus, it isn't any harder to do as you can either buy the frame or cut it yourself. You could even put a door spring on so it closes by itself.
Looking good dude
Looks awesome dude 🤙🤙
You are worth the watch !
Such a badass clean lift👍
Nice work 👍👍👍
That prerunner flexing on that LvL header
Great work keep it up
Sweet 🎉
My dad always said don't be afraid to jump into a project because you don't know what you are doing and if you are second guessing your self error on the side of caution and over build it...
Nice shot! Almost…. Keep it up, cheering for you in Dallas!
great video my friend, keep up the content loving this build. One thing unless I missed something, you didn’t insulate inside that beam for the garage door
Chad, it’s looking great! I’m jealous of your build. As a fellow DFW’er, I feel your pain on the weather, but it’s got to give you a well deserved break.
Also, I’d suggest running conduit from your house to the shop to set up a WAP (wireless access point). That conduit can run in the same trench as electrical.
Kia Ora bro, awesome mahi your doing 🤙🏽
Man your life is exhausting. Keep it up that’s a shop and diy to boot 👊🤌🤘🏼 and one of these 🤟🏻
Yea this East Texas weather has been messing up my recording schedule. Well my work schedule that ends up messing up recording schedules.
Truely a nice job. Ingenuity on using the truck to lift the beam!
@LonestarHawaiian I believe I live on the other side of DFW from you so we deal with the same storms… I found your channel and binged on your shop build… mine is the same size & I’ve tried doing a lot of the work myself but not to your extent… anyway, the last storms forced us to replace one of our shop doors. We have 2-14’ doors. We have the insulated garage doors and I will say they stood up better than the chain-roll up doors. So we used Master Doors here in Weatherford and paid $5,725 this past aug/sept ‘23.
We did all our own electrical and I agree with the gentleman above on the plugs, lights, etc. As far as the internet… please run a line out there so you can have a dedicated extension in the shop. I have sketchy internet connection when I close my doors.
Oh! Have you decided on a/c? We put in two mini-splits and they keep her cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter…
C
Great looking, BIG garage! With big glass in the windows and doors, how do you plan to address any security ingress concerns? Grills over glass to deter entry/theft/damage? You are going to have slot of cool stuff in there, that you are making public on your channel. Best wishes and thanks for sharing!
Great video shop looking almost complete electric going to be a great video
My wife always asks me why I don't pay someone or at least get someone to help me. Because I'm cheap and it goes against my nature. Go bro!
Damn bro! That's an accomplishment! You have to be so stoked for this to be done and sick of spending so much time at the blue and orange stores!
The build is impressive, just curious how the neighbors are liking it. Even though you had it approved through the HOA, there has got to be some Kevin and Karen’s running around hahaha. You have done an awesome job mostly by yourself.
Looking good now 😊👍🇬🇧
Tinted glass door would be cool....? If there is weather proof glass? Like a fire station.....
Having Fun now!
You Texans are sure getting pummeled by the weather. The nice warm Gulf water is doing a tune on you. No way would I reframe the door for four inches.Just do not open it all the way when going in and out.Your truck lumber rack is pretty clever. Looking good.
If you install doors what opens to the inside, if somebody wanna break in they can bust in the door. But if it opens to the outside they need to destroy the door to get in.
Awesome job.
You should be proud of this build.
And Milwaukee tools should sponsor you!
