Great job! Its like a new baby being born. It is new life, a new being with its own personality and it must grow and learn. And must crawl before it walks. So therefore you must teach it. And tke care of and love it. Which im sure you do very much. After all its part of you. So congratulations on the birth of your new baby. Im sure it will have a very long and fulfilling life!!
@tonydewey3023 Thanks Tony, full disclosure I did not build this one but am building a 5 inch Manor, similar size wise and that's taken 3 years so far. Also must have spent 30+hours on this easily since purchase just sorting things out, they are resource sponges but very worthwhile ones I think!
What an absolute beauty. everything in life needs a tweak. You will get it right.. Even the great Fred had a port problem which with a few burs it was fixed. People like to say they know best. In the end it’s al fixable and so well done…
@MrAsBBB Thanks Mr A! In fact that is what I did do, sounds much more even now. Have been working on some improvements on her so need to get a video up again soon.
Well it looks splendid. I'm sure you will quickly get the fettling done. You should be really proud of your great skill in building it. Thanks for sharing this moment.
@NOELTM Thank you, I did get it sorted in the end, have been making more progress since but need to get a video sorted. It's a great hobby to be involved with.
I remember my 7.25 in 14xx class tank sounded exactly the same as your when first run valve timing and tight bearings in the rods but after much running things did get better
That's partly what has happened with this one, it's had pistons, valves and liners all made in cast iron and was not the previous owners "go to" loco so had not run a great deal.. see her running around the track etc in my other videos for the changes
@jwatson9732 Thanks for the comment, I have some footage of her running uploaded if you want to see. Hopefully get her out again soon as I have been busy sorting some issues out.
I bet the people who thumb this down are the "experts" who claim to know everything about operating a steam loco, but have never actually done so in any capacity. Lovely engine there pal
Thanks Joel, you do get a fair amount of that sort of thing in this and most hobbies as I'm sure you already know. I just like being a part of the hobby and make my own mind up about people and their level of "knowledge". Just keep learning and improving is the key.
No not much, it was more to do with the die blocks clearances combined with the fact the loco probably had not run for sometime. I do now have rolling roads for all the driving wheels just so they are all supported, see the other videos for the runs post rework.
@haroldpearson6025 No, this is my first steam test after purchasing her, she had steamed and ran at the previous owners club just not very well, as can be seen from this test. Also only some of the lining and painting had been done here, it still needs the cab side number on even now.
@@5Inchgaugelivesteam Thanks for clarifying that. I have built 7 locos from 3.5 to 7.25 gauges. I test everything as I go along. I have a small gas fired vertical boiler for testing boiler fittings and injectors, it really pays off👍
@haroldpearson6025 An asset for sure, I had seen the 9F running before I bought it so was happy with what I was getting and have done alot of rework to her since already. The Manor and other locos I'm building will get tested as I hit those milestones before completion.
That is awesome, but I have no idea where you got men’s small enough to shovel coal into that thing and drive it tell the Stewart I would like a cappuccino.
Bonjour Gary, très belle locomotive. Toutefois, je trouve que le mouvement des roues motrices n'est pas très fluide. Est-ce dû à un problème de calibration du tiroir de distribution ?
Hi Alexandre, well picked up, essentially the loco had an issue with the steam valves, this has been corrected and sound better in my other video. Thanks for commenting
Hello, it turned out is was not pumping correctly, put a walk around video up after some repair work. The loco should have two lubricators but will need a strip down to fit. It's OK for now if you keep an eye on it!
Thanks, I didn't know there was such a thing as a rolling road (rolling track) for a steam locomotive. Is it an off the shelf part or did you devise it yourself?
They are common accessories for those of us who run little steam locos. I have two - one set for each 16mm gauge of 32 and 45mm for my little steamers. Electric locos also run, with suitable power input.
Yes mine got better when run in but I didn’t have piston valves but the square siding type which run in better than piston valves I have a GWR king in 7.25 gauge with piston valves it leak like a anything hope it get better when run in my mate that built engines over night told me to put metal polish in with the oil on a new engine not sure about that
@@steamon2 I remembered today that heritage steam do sell a lapping paste for that job, comes in fine and medium and safe to use while the steam engine is running
It does seem a Lot stiff. Something is not right. Best would be to ask someone at a Model Engineering Club. Espescially the Older Gentleman. They Know Best ❤
What an incredible pice of engineering. Thanks for the post! 👍🏻🍻😎

Simply, a wonderful masterpiece.
Man, you made me grin from ear to ear like I am 8 years old again, thank you :)

Nice. Can't wait to see how it runs once you've worked the bugs out of it.

lovely piece of work.
Thank you! Cheers!
That stage seems a long way away for my Brit 😳 but good to see it running 😀
@julias-shed Maybe but your getting closer every week, it will get there!
Wow what a masterpiece.
Gorgeous 👌
Beautiful loco mate. 👍
@paulsotheron710 Thanks Paul, will get some more videos of her when I can, think I might do a workshop walk around too at dome stage

Absolutely superb
Valve timing is out and probably the porting as well.
All checked OK, it was the die blocks and a bit of adjustment to the valves has got it alot closer.
Brilliant 👍
outstanding!!!!!
would the unsupported driving wheels not be adding to the load by having more friction due to the difference in height to the supported wheels?
No not much, it was more to do with the die blocks clearances combined with the fact the loco probably had not run for sometime. I do now have rolling roads for all the driving wheels just so they are all supported, see the other videos for the runs post rework.
I known a chap who has the same kit. Been working on it for years now.
They take alot of work to get right as do all such projects, but it's very satisfying as you build and improve them.
Did you realy only have your first steam test after final painting and lining?
@haroldpearson6025 No, this is my first steam test after purchasing her, she had steamed and ran at the previous owners club just not very well, as can be seen from this test. Also only some of the lining and painting had been done here, it still needs the cab side number on even now.

What kit number is your 9F? Mine is 030
@@Stoomraider I am not sure yet still to try and figure that out! I think it's an early one
Did you run the loco on compressed air first?
@user-re3pi1fp5o Yes I did, should out that up too

It's an old trick BUT it's cleaning it out after that's the bugger.
King is a massive loco BTW,

Amazing!
Err somethings well out there
Die blocks needed replacing and some valve re setting, alot better in the later runs
Something not quite right by the sound of that .
Have a good look you will find it
