    Enjoyed the video Gary. Having some 'bling' like the tender and those cylinders must be an incentive to keep going. Agree with your comments on making mistakes/making things better. A lot of my milling was done on lathe vertical slide and now have a mill I thing I could remake to a better standard in some cases. Looking forward to the next video, no rush though as it's cold out there! 🥶🤣🤣

      @andyrodgers914 I'm glad you enjoyed it, as I did except when I did a couple of good takes with my new mic turned off! 🤣
      I also did the same on the vertical slide and got some ok results, but it's alot more difficult I found to get the setup right on the lathe and see what's going on, the mill is much better. The loco did come with alot of parts but will get to that another time. It really is cold in there at night despite having the house boiler in there but I will commit for our hobby!

    I am building locomotives and have a box of parts that have been remade many times this is just life I spent a lot of time just making parts from plans then change my mind how they were designed but I am getting there

    • @5Inchgaugelivesteam

      Hi Robert, I think alot of designs allow for that sort of improvisation, other designs actively require it! I do enjoy the figuring out process which is handy in this hobby! Thanks for commenting 🙂

      I have also found this on one of my other locos under build, in this case improvements had been made to the original design and so extra drawings are available. At least in that case there were more drawings provided as in many cases no further updates are added!

    Hiya Gary, I’m not a Britannia enthusiast but seem to have two! 🤣 I think a big part of model engineering is learning to recover from mistakes. Look forward to seeing how you progress. 😀

      @julias-shed How do we get in to these situations! Clearly we just like shiney things too much. It's been a good project so far but am looking forward to it becoming more loco like soon!

      @ sorry Gary pressed the wrong button no he was not Martin evans son he used to rely a lot on a genius by the name of Derrick Goodall whom could make a standard mamod go like a race car unbelievable the experiments he used to do ,Neville used to mention him in the script now and again in the model engineer mag he designed a sight glass that didn’t use gland nuts only o rings worth a look suppose you could put dummy gland nuts on very reliable they were

    Looking to following the progress on the build
    I Am currently slowly building a 5" Britannia and learning all the time.

    • @5Inchgaugelivesteam
      @5Inchgaugelivesteam  22 години тому

      Hi Richard, is your Britannia one of the kits or a scratch build? Hopefully you know of Julia's channel on her Britannia build? My 9F has a number of shared components to the Winson Britannia. Hope you enjoy the channel as it grows

    • @richardbarnes7427
      @richardbarnes7427 21 годину тому +1

      @@5Inchgaugelivesteam Yes mine is one of the Winsson kits. It was purchased by a gentleman as a retirement project in 2000 but apart from connecting the horns to the frames did not complete any further works.It has lived in his garage still in its unopened boxes until he came to Evergreens Miniature Railway Club Lincolnshire earlier this year and offered it to the club.
      So it is now in my hands to construct and will take up club duties once finished.I am watching Julias channel as she is just ahead of me on the build.
      I am always looking for input on the project and known problems / solutions. I would love to get a full set of plans if anyone knows a source.

      @richardbarnes7427 maybe Julia can support with the drawings? I am after some for the 9F too but not getting very far with that. Well keep up the good work, are you aware of the online information for the Britannia build? I used some of that info on my 9F as the cylinders are the same for both locos?

    Hi Gary nice to see lots of good progress. I’m very keen to see a bit more with the cylinders as I’m starting a manor from scratch and was wondering about using the cylinders from the grange. Harry

    • @5Inchgaugelivesteam
      @5Inchgaugelivesteam  5 днів тому

      Hi Harry! Thought I recognised you from the photo! They are a great model the Manors and not many issues from the drawings, one of club members has one and it's a great loco. Mine has these Grange cylinders and currently it should all go together, the overall width position is different between the design drawings hence the backing plates. Will make sure I get you a good update!
