  • Haha late one Saturday Night Joker James and I were drinking ALOT of the ol' moonshine and decided to have a little late night jam. Then this song was suggested called 'Poor Ned' by Redgum so we had a listen and drunkenly smashed it out haha more in the vein of John Schumann & Hugh McDonald's Live version. Great song, I'd never heard it till that night! I hope you all enjoy this banger and you got a smile!
The concept of Songs and Smiles all began as a simple premise 2015 when founder Mitch Jnr wanted to make some people who were feeling a little down smile. He has always had a passion for entertaining and loves to be silly, so, he thought he would try harness that randomness, have some fun and bring some grins to the world via an internet campaign... So on that whim Songs and Smiles was born to bring smiles on a daily basis and make a little bit of difference in the world.
The purpose of Songs and Smiles is to give it a more natural feel, unscripted and down to earth. It is mostly off the cuff and made for entertainment purposes to bring smiles from hits, nostalgia and good ol' fashioned positivity.
So please get involved, share the video and give someone a smile. Be a part of it as we grow over the year and put the FUN in Fundraising. Join us now! We need people like you to become Smile Saviours and help us reach more and more people every single day. #NedKelly #PoorNed #Redgum #CoverSong #Acoustic

Ned Kelly is only a legend in the minds of people who have been conned into believing the fiction, myths and lies written by pro Kelly authors.
In 1880 the entire population of NE Victoria and the Riverina in NSW were more than pleased his thieving, murdering, criminal actions were brought to an end in Glenrowan.

Redgum did a very good job of presenting that song, BUT, they took the word of Ian Jones, who was a mad Kelly fan, who fed them with a load of fictitious rot. The words written do not in any way reflect what actually happened. It is pleasing to see that other bands are now writing songs that DO tell the truth about this vicious thug, who wreaked havoc throughout NE Victoria and the Riverina District of NSW.

Would love to read more about that. Cheers for the heads up :) The lyrics for this were written by Trevor Lucas and performed by his band Fotheringay. The original was called 'The Ballad Of Ned Kelly' which is why I called this video that :) The original is alot slower and solemn

@@SongsandSmiles That's true. Redgum accepted the fiction that Ian Jones promoted in his book. Many professional historians are scathing of the rubbish he promoted.
Here is a very telling editorial written in 1878, just after the police murders at Stringybark Creek.
Please go to the place that describes two eyes a nose and a mouth, and look for Ned Kelly False Icon. Read the first item. It displays in very clear terms what the people in NE Victoria really thought of the criminal elements, including Ned Kelly.
Now you could write a great song that reflects the truth and not the fiction presented by Redgum. Please do it.
