    The skew is strong with this one ;).
    It's always a pleasure to see how a master makes it look so easy.

    Wow! I am in awe! I just posted a video to my channel about how I turn a honey dipper in under five minutes. You just did it all with a skew! True skill takes many years or decades of work. You have it!

    Thanks so much for another great video. I already tried to use a skew only, and it was a fail. You make it look so easy. Great Job.

    It is so nice to see someone who knows what he is doing. I am sick of watching "woodturners" mauling wood with gouges and scrapers.

    The skew, unlike the roughing gouge seems to just work naturally for me. I can see that the roughing and bowl gouges are beefer, but they just don't seem to like to cut for me.

    That's impressive! Both how much wood you're able to take off at once, and how you didn't even have to stop the lathe and saw off the ends! :) I'm assuming you sanded the ends after removing it, but still, it wouldn't have been much! :)

    • @woodturner21

    hey ive been watching a lot of your skew videos. Wondering how high above the centers you're putting your tool rest? its hard to grasp from the videos but it looks like you're taking cuts from almost on top instead of close to center? im young and kind of new to turning, and this interests me. thanks

    • @woodturner21
      @woodturner21  6 років тому

      The rest is slightly above centre and I cut towards the top of the wood. This enables you to rub the bevel easily.

    I can not make cuts like that. The amount of wood you are taking off in a pass and peeling cuts forget it.

    What are the angles with which your skew chisel sharpens?

    • @woodturner21
      @woodturner21  7 років тому

      I don't measure them I just grind freehand, but the included bevel is around 30 degrees. and the skew approx. 75 degrees

    Is that a Lacer or Batty skew? Stunning!

    • @woodturner21
      @woodturner21  7 років тому

      No It's an Ashley Iles standard skew with my grind.

    • @jnicholasp
      @jnicholasp 7 років тому

      I'm a turning noob, and your skill with the skew is beautiful to watch. Can you talk about the grind you use on your chisel, and what the advantages of it are? Looks like an oval blade with a nearly straight across grind (so not really a heavy 'skew') - what bevel angle do you prefer?
      Thanks in advance, and thanks for putting these videos out, they're enlightening.

    • @woodturner21
      @woodturner21  7 років тому

      No It's an Ashley Iles standard flat skew with a slightly less than normal angle and a longer bevel. I don't know the angles I have never measured them and always grind freehand to what looks right. Sorry I can't help more. Advantages are cuts cleaner and can be more aggressive and more versatile.
